Would you like access to our advanced agency training for FREE? https://www.agencymastery360.com/training How are you adapting to the many changes in the industry and economy? For many agency owners this is a golden era for the business. Of course, not everyone will thrive—success depends largely on your ability to adapt. In this episode learn how our guest has mastered adaptation through several economic downturns over the years, emerging from each crisis as a more prepared and confident leader. Today, he shares the pivotal moments when his agency could have joined countless others in closing their doors, but instead discovered pathways to emerge stronger than ever. Tune in to learn how he navigated each crisis, how embracing remote work has enhanced nearly every aspect of his agency's culture and operations, and why he firmly believes that despite—or perhaps because of—today's challenges, there has never been a better time to be in the agency business. Dan Kahn is the founder of Kahn Media, an integrated marketing agency specializing in automotive and luxury brands. He shares insights into his journey in the marketing world, starting with public relations and evolving into a diverse agency model. Dan also looks back at the different ways he handles times of economic downturns in his agency, and how his leadership was shaped by these times of turmoil. Additionally, he introduces his newer venture, TRED, an outdoor recreation-focused agency emphasizing experiential marketing. In this episode, we'll discuss: 3 ways to weather economic downturns. Learning to be a better leader for a remote team. Focus on the media, not the message. Sometimes Bigger Clients Doesn't Equate to Big Success Dan grew up watching his father weather the volatile nature of business ownership and promised himself he'd never subject himself to such instability. However, his passion for automobiles guided him along a path from automotive journalism to PR work, and ultimately to founding his own agency. Hence, his entrepreneurial journey began with a strong foundation in the automotive industry, where he built a solid reputation working with notable clients like Lotus and Maserati, and handling high-profile events such as the SEMA automotive trade show. However, his ability to adapt was truly put to the test during the pandemic. When the world came to a standstill in 2020, many businesses found themselves grappling with significant revenue declines and uncertainty about the future and his agency was no exception. Dan found that while most of his corporate clients were pulling back, smaller clients like Lotus were easier to innovate with and willing to test new approaches. This is how he came up with the idea of handling car delivery services directly to journalists. With automotive press fleets locked down and journalists confined to their homes, Dan and his team were gaining lots of attention with this stunt, to the point that they achieved greater media exposure than larger competitors like Porsche. 3 Ways to Face Times of Economic Crisis 1. Grow stronger as a leader According to Dan, he was a different type of leader back when he faced his first economic downturn in 2013 and, as a result, defaulted to putting everything on his shoulders. Having experienced consistent 50% growth for several years, he felt the agency was doing well enough and he could lay back on doing new business development. Unfortunately, this decision coincided with some critical financial decisions. They had relocate to a more expensive town while taking on higher office rent and lost two big clients in one week. His world came crushing down, he burned through his savings, and it took a lot to get through that situation. With no delegation strategy in place, Dan shouldered the entire burden of recovery himself. His dreams of reducing his workload vanished as he struggled to lead the team through this crisis. While the agency eventually recovered and emerged stronger than before, the experience took a toll on his health. 2. Innovate and pivot quickly When the global shutdown of 2020 threatened Dan's agency with another economic disaster—particularly since events accounted for 30% of their revenue were canceled in rapid succession, Dan found himself in a better position to face the situation this time. He had a good leadership team, excellent client relationships and the agency was overall better prepared to figure out how to stay afloat during lockdowns. Rather than shouldering the burden individually, Dan and his leadership team collaborated closely with clients to develop innovative alternatives and pivoted quickly to create virtual experiences that maintained audience engagement despite physical restrictions. 3. Execute the highest levels of service Finally, the agency's latest critical moment happened last year, during economic shifts that hit many industries. Clients were pulling back on expenses as Dan had just launched a second agency, which requires a huge amount of capital. In part, it was the result of normal economic cycles during an election year but Dan admits it was also the result of poor planning on his part. After spending much of 2023 investing the first agency's profits into the launch of the second agency, it hit him in December that clients' annual contract renewals weren't going as smoothly as he'd hope. He started to see just how bad Q1 of 2024 could be if he didn't course correct. Once again, he relied on his team, who were tasked with continuing to execute at the highest level while he focused on business development. He also started focusing more on growing existing clients, after years with a laser focus on new business development, and invested some of his own savings into pulling the agency back up. Dan was also honest about the agency's situation with some key clients, who agreed to pay the year in full with a discount. Finally he put a heavy focus on delivering the best customer experience – aiming to become undeniable – following the teachings of Unreasonable Hospitality, by Will Guidara. The team all read the book and were instructed to apply those principles with each client. The result? Q1 was still a mess but things turned up by Q2 and by the end of the year they had record revenue and profits. Choosing Results Over Proximity Like many agencies, Dan's business runs most operations on remote, with only five to six team members coming into the office on a regular basis and some coming in once or twice a week. Although this shift does make it harder to get everyone on the same page and focused on the same target – and it does make training harder –, Dan admits it's better in almost every other aspect. Most critically, the remote structure grants access to an elite talent pool—a priority Dan values far above physical proximity. Whether team members work part-time from Alaska or elsewhere, his focus is on results rather than location. With a leadership philosophy that has changed from micromanaging to inspiring, he understands you need to trust your team to work remote. This comes after a lot of personal development work as he learned to listen more effectively and improve as a leader by taking guidance from his own team. This then led to identifying some necessary changes in the agency's culture, including replacing senior staff members who lacked leadership qualities. Now, instead of managing his team and overworking himself, he takes the time to enjoy his life. Finally, coaching and therapy have also help Dan open his eyes to the importance of diverse personality types within a leadership team. While he used to expect his team to tackle any situation exactly as he would, he now appreciates that this kind of mindset can lead to chaos in the team. Instead, varied perspectives in decision-making processes can lead to much better results. Why this is a Great Time to be an Agency Owner With traditional media on its deathbed, Dan believes this is actually the golden age for agency business, positioning communication professionals at the forefront of media evolution. He sees this as the optimal moment to launch podcasts and establish dominance in emerging media channels. Not everyone will adapt to these changes, and some agencies are struggling because of this. However, if you can adapt and make the best of this unbelievable moment in time with innovations like AI and much more freedom to be creative and innovative, you stand poised to thrive. Furthermore, nowadays people are much more willing to work with smaller agencies, relieving agency owners from the expectations of having a huge team or a fancy office. Instead, you get to focus on the ideas and building the best team possible with people from all over the world, which makes it a great time to be in this business. This week's Extra Alarm insights come to us from Division Chief Chad Crouse, who addresses the impact of AI on mental health and productivity in the fire service. He observes that fire chiefs tend to use time saved by AI to do more at work rather than focusing time saved on personal wellness. Highlighting a cultural expectation that productivity equals success, Chief Crouse calls for a shift in how we deploy technology in order to reclaim time for personal health and relationships. As we've been discussing the power and necessity of emotional intelligence, and I've posited the increasing value of it in relation to artificial intelligence, let's look at what human intelligence really is. I've never met anyone who did not want to think of themselves as intelligent. I find the label often attached to people who seem to have a wealth of knowledge they can deftly communicate. But as I discussed with artificial intelligence, if it's only defined by knowledge, then the most intelligent person is now second best to a computer. Let us look at what would equate to us being more or less intelligent. Sign up for your $1/month trial period at shopify.com/kevin Go to shipstation.com and use code KEVIN to start your free trial. Through my own evolution as a business owner in recent years and then through watching my son evolve as an athlete recently, I've had the opportunity to personally and professionally consider how our culture's obsession with performance and winning consistently creates toxic narratives that tend to diminish our inherent human value. In this episode, I do a deep dive into separating self-worth from achievement - something I have had to work really hard on as someone who likes to achieve, achieve, achieve at every turn! I have found that when we let go of our ego and lead with an intentional combination of heart and heart and a healthy dose of self-compassion, we begin to own our inherent worth rather than constantly trying to earn it, allowing us to redefine our success in more fulfilling ways that extend far beyond traditional parameters. I am hoping leaders—especially women who have been conditioned to prove their worth through constant high achievement—will find this episode liberating. This is an invitation to untie your self-worth from external validation and implement new strategies for developing a more curious, compassionate, growth-oriented mindset. As you consider how you judge yourself, how you judge others, and how you demonstrate a sense of self-worth to the world, I invite you to think about what would it be like if you disconnected your self-worth from winning, success, and high achievement at every turn. What would it be like if you knew you were innately worthy no matter how you performed? What would it be like if you could confidently walk onto the proverbial field without fear of peer judgment? And, if your life and/or work plays out on a field of constant judgment, what would it be like to find another field to play on? This episode is an opportunity to challenge the traditional leadership paradigm by suggesting that true power comes not from constant winning, but from understanding our intrinsic value, supporting collective growth, and co-creating psychologically safe environments. My hope is that you'll see yourself—and your potential—through new eyes, unshackled from the damaging belief that your value is something to be constantly proven. Everyone in life goes through trauma drama to tears in learning love lessons.
There is an on-going conversation around being a multi-sport athlete versus being singularly focused. Being the parent of a 9-year-old, I see these things becoming more and more of a discussion. Sport specific, playing one sport year round, paying thousands of dollars on private coaches or club teams and more. It's a hard lane to navigate as a parent and even harder as an athlete. This is a topic we are extremely passionate about at Y-Option. Go multi-sport or focus on football, perhaps with a private coach? Guess what — it's not either/or. It's all about finding the path that's best for you, and adjusting it along the way.One conversation in particular has always stuck with me. I was talking with George Whitfield, the first private quarterback coach in the modern social media era. He went on to appear on ESPN's College GameDay for years, and trained multiple first-round QBs.He said, “Equate the potential of a young quarterback to that of a young musician. If your child truly aspires to grow and achieve as a pianist, finding a credible piano teacher makes sense. But it must be predicated on the child's intention about getting better and growing. The same in the QB space. Your child must have the visible or vocal love for the craft of quarterback play. If not, it will feel like assigned work.”Whitfield's wisdom came back for me when I was talking to the parents of an 8-year-old. They told me that they felt their child had ‘It'. Their next step was to focus on football, hire a private coach and go all-in on this opportunity. Now, I love calls like these from parents. It's clear how much they care about their child, how much they are willing to pour into their child's dreams, and that their son may indeed have a gift. But as we spoke, it was also clear that there is no real road map for parents in similar shoes. There is no perfect answer and it's even hard to empathize unless you too have a gifted athlete as a child. As a parent, I totally get it. It's hard to see the long game for our own kids, but easier to see it for others. So, to answer the question about ‘what to do next?' — we just have to look at the facts. And here they are.In 2022, all eight starting NFL quarterbacks in the 2nd round of the playoffs played multiple sports in high school. To be exact, these multi-million dollar, face-of-the-franchise QBs played 24 sports combined. For example: Matt Stafford (football, baseball), Tom Brady (football, basketball, baseball), Josh Allen (football, basketball, baseball), Patrick Mahomes (football, basketball, baseball), Jimmy Garoppolo (football, basketball, baseball), Aaron Rodgers (football, basketball, baseball), Joe Burrow (football, basketball, track & field) and Ryan Tannehill (football, basketball, baseball, track & field). In addition, in 2015 there were 128 quarterbacks surveyed in an ESPN article, and at least 122 (95%) of them played at least two sports in high school. Nearly 70% played three or more sports. While all of these young men played Pop Warner in a different era, the results speak for themselves. The more diverse an athlete you are, the chances to be special seemingly only grow. More importantly, the more diverse an athlete you are, the less likely you are to burn out from one particular sport.Today's podcast, thanks to our founding partner in 76, is with Duce Robinson, a two-sport athlete for the USC Trojans. In my eyes, Duce is on the verge of a breakout season for the Trojans on the football field as a wide receiver and he may also have a big year in the spring on the baseball team. Regardless of his statistics, one thing remains true –playing multiple sports has only allowed Duce to be a better version of himself as an athlete, a student and a product of competitive sport. We sat down this off-season and discussed the benefits of playing multiple sports, as well as how it has impacted how he views the world. I learned a lot from this conversation, especially on how being a dual-sport athlete impacted his joy around both sports.Various studies have proven that athlete fatigue is real, and that too much specialization can lead to injuries. In 2019, the National Athletic Trainers' Association proposed that a child's age should equal the number of hours he or she should spend in sports training each week. And regarding single-sport specialization, research and evidence has proven that there is actually more room for athleticism to grow if an athlete exposes their body to different sports and different movements. In addition, athlete burnout is a growing concern. The American Academy of Pediatrics found that 70% of kids are completely done with sports by the age of 13, and a great deal of that is attributed to burnout and sport specialization. All of that is not to say that there is something wrong with hiring a personal QB coach to improve your son's mechanics, footwork and football acumen. The private QB coaching business is booming, and in every region of America there is someone who can help make your child better. Based on the research we did when writing the book 5-Star QB and talking to 50 of the best high school quarterbacks in the history of recruiting there are a few things you should evaluate:* Is this your child's dream or your dream?* Is he enthusiastic about the extra practice?* Is his arm sore? If so, stop immediately to prevent future injuries. There is no reason a 10, 12 or 15-year-old needs to throw a ball downfield 100 times per day, multiple times per week. In 2012, Tony Romo was a guest coach at the Elite 11 in Dallas and shared with the QBs that he would throw in his basement as a child due to bad weather. In the confines of his Wisconsin home, he would compete to hit certain spots on a pillow on his couch. He believed that those repetitions helped his accuracy and had minimal impact on his arm.* Is that coach recommended by others in the industry?* Is your child improving?* How many competitive teams has your kid been on?The private QB coach discussion is an ever-evolving topic, and we support the private quarterback industry. Bottom line, if you recognize that your son may have the ‘It Factor', be sure that he also has the desire to put in extra time, and that the sport still feels like a sport, instead of a job.Finding focus, and fine-tuning it, is key to success. But the truth remains — the more diverse an athlete your son is, the more diverse a competitor he will be. That will serve him well, and far beyond the field. If you need an example, look no further than today's guest on Y-Option, Duce Robinson. This episode is executive produced by Jim Thornby, edited by Blue Ox Films with cinematography from the folks at Elite 11.This podcast is a Best Coast Media production. Fabi Lara, Founder and Publisher of The Next Big Rush, joins me for a deep dive into the bullish fundamentals for the uranium market, but also how those don't necessarily have to correlate with individual uranium stock trends. We point out that even if there is a solid bull case for uranium in the medium to longer-term, which should bode well overall for the sector, that often times the uranium equities can still have a bear case running in tandem. This can be for many reasons due to company specific fundamentals, or exploration misses, jurisdictional risk, or from too much equity dilution. Fabi shares how she is positioning in different stages of uranium companies from producers and near-term producers, to developers and explorers, and some key considerations for investors to make when investing in this sector. She also points out that for some investors, that don't have the time to do the necessary due diligence, that just getting exposure to the physical metal trends or a basket of stocks through the various ETFs may be a better place to start. We do talk about a number of different uranium stocks throughout the conversation including: Cameco (TSX: CCO; NYSE: CCJ), Kazataprom, Global Atomic (TSX: GLO) (OTCQX: GLATF), Denison Mines (TSX: DML) (NYSE: DNN), enCore Energy (NASDAQ: EU) (TSX.V: EU), Energy Fuels (NYSE: UUUU) (TSX: EFR), Ur-Energy (NYSE:URG)(TSX:URE), UEC (NYSE: UEC), Atha Energy (TSX.V: SASK), Stallion Uranium (TSX-V: STUD) (OTCQB: STLNF), Skyharbour Resources (TSX.V: SYH) (OTCQX:SYHBF), Cosa Resources (TSXV: COSA) (OTCQB: COSAF), Aero Energy (TSXV: AERO) (OTC Pink: AAUGF), F3 Uranium (TSXV: FUU) (OTCQB: FUUFF) , and IsoEnergy (TSXV: ISO) (OTCQX: ISENF). New Year 2024 Report ARCHANGEL URIEL: DON'T LET THE WORLD DISTRACT YOU FROM WHY YOU CAME HERE: TO LEARN TO LOVE Interviewer: Joel D. Anastasi Channel: Phillip Elton Collins (We encourage you to listen to the entire podcast. Here are some key points.) Earth has the divine mission of mastering love. That is why we humans are all here. We are students in this “Lover-versity” called planet Earth. All planets are destined to return to the light from which they came, including Earth. That involves an ascension process of raising the frequency of the planet and those upon and within it to a higher vibration. Equate higher vibration with higher consciousness, which is a consciousness of love and oneness. Therefore, humanity's journey of ascension (higher consciousness) is a journey of discovering our oneness, our unity, that we all came from the same source, that, in fact, we are source, that we are, in fact, God experiencing itself. The path to higher consciousness is through the relationship with self, a choice humanity itself has made. So, by working on the relationship with self (learning to love, honor and value ourselves so that we may learn to love, honor and value others), that relationship is the tool to raise our vibrations through our consciousness and thus allows us to achieve a dimensional shift into a higher frequency. That is why the personal process through the concept of self is so vital and essential.* Our primary responsibility as human beings, as students of love, is to raise our vibrations through our personal process. Uriel discusses some of the factors that have contributed to the separation and conflict among humans historically and currently, including the fact that a “warring gene was mutated into you long ago by an advanced civilization.” He counsels: “If you so choose, do not get drawn into the drama taking place on your planet. Stay away from the wars and the political trauma. It does not have to be your fight. You will only get involved in it if it is part of your soul plan karma or choices you make. Those who choose revenge, hatred and separation can only hinder their ascension. There is much duality taking place now. You can choose unity. There is hatred. You can choose love and inclusion. This is your ticket upward.” Uriel offers some additional thoughts to ponder, including: Do not let the world distract you from your higher self. Does your life reflect your soul plan, your reason to be here? Do you know your soul plan? Can you take responsibility for everything in your life, since you are the creator creating it? When things appear to be falling apart, that is the way the pieces can reassemble and create a new reality. In this new year can you create the best rendition of yourself? *See Life Mastery by Joel Anastasi (Teachings of Archangel Michael channeled by Jeff Fasano) available on Amazon THE PURPOSE OF THESE PODCASTS IS TO BRING A HIGHER REALM PERSPECTIVE TO OUR LIVES, OUR NATION AND THE WORLD.

Hello Everybody! This Q+A was recorded previously - I'm sick and sounding like the cookie monster as far as acoustics go, so you're welcome basically. (adore you all thank you for your patience!!) Partial Transcript: This week, rather than doing a one set topic type episode, I thought that I would go through and answer some of the questions from previous Instagram Q and A's, versions of questions that I tend to see a lot, things like that. So let's get going. First question I have, I don't want to get bulky. I know, I know, but I'm dealing with some body image issues. How can I get stronger without putting on unwanted muscle? Okay. Let's imagine that you got your license at 16, right? And you drove for like a year and you're driving and you have your license and that's great. And all of a sudden you're accidentally a NASCAR driver. That's sort of what you're thinking is going to happen. And I know that sounds a little condescending, but please let me explain. You as a natural born woman, you're not going to bulk up.That's really unfortunately not how it works. So, or fortunately for you. So the good thing for you here is that strength is not based on muscle. It's neural. All that means is that big muscles don't Equate to being strong and small muscles don't equate to being weak. It sounds like you want to start lifting weights. It sounds like you're just afraid that you'll accidentally put on too much mass. And I don't want to invalidate that because that's valid. Like you're allowed to look however you want. So it's not wrong to say that, but Luckily strength is a neural adaptation, so it's central nervous system based and it's going to come from adaptations that happen not due to your muscle size.If you kind of want to know what I'm talking about, go look up the lightest weight classes, especially in like Chinese lifters. They start so, so young. That they kind of develop through the weightlifting system and a lot of them stay relatively light and they're really small. Like you would walk past them in a grocery store in the lightest weight classes, and you would never know that these people are some of like the strongest, most athletic people on the planet look that up and you'll kind of start to see that, yeah, these people are throwing hundreds and hundreds of pounds over their head, but they're like 120 pounds. How is that possible? And it's possible because their goal and their sort of objective within their training is not to put on muscle. It's to get as strong as possible. And those are different. So if you need a more relatable example, when I was the strongest I've been in my life, I had less muscle mass than I do right now. Now, I would say I probably squat close to 30 to 40 pounds less than I used to. And I have more muscle mass now. Then I did when I was training three or four hours a day because I was purely training for strength. That's what I was competing in. If you've seen me, I'm not exactly the Hulk now. And the biggest kicker of it all is I tried to be, I tried to get more muscular.Support the showAll Links: https://linktr.ee/hmaewalsh Product Discount + Deal ListMy Most Recommended Food Diary App (Free)Instagram: @hmaewalshMy Website: www.23hourhealth.com*All episode descriptions may include affiliate links. I've started over many times in my life, and the cool part about it all? I can keep doing it. Sometimes I've built my life on strong foundations, and sometimes I won't. Sometimes I just didn't know what I was doing. That was a truth that finally dawned on me. I didn't know what, or who I wanted to be. I didn't want to have so much control--I wanted to just be. Let the controller down, take a break... and just "breathe." There was still time to go! Time to try! Time to be--- It was time to tell a story. --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/thekandicewilliamshow/support

In today's discussion, host May Yeo Silvers takes us on a journey to challenge a prevailing misconception: the belief that sheer skill is the ultimate key to unlocking profits in our events businesses. While undeniably crucial, possessing skills in event planning, design, and decoration isn't a one-way ticket to success when you're at the helm of your events venture. May Yeo Silvers adeptly articulates how thriving in this competitive landscape demands a holistic approach – one that encompasses not only your creative prowess but also a mastery of the art of effective marketing and sales. Through insightful anecdotes and profound analysis, this episode sheds light on the experiences of highly skilled event planners and designers who found themselves grappling with a lack of profitability. The root causes? An oversight of the intricate business facet that accompanies entrepreneurship. May Yeo Silvers underscores a pivotal truth: excellence in your craft should be coupled with a strategic display of your work, proactive self-promotion, and the nurturing of a brand that resonates trust and admiration. It's when potential clients recognize and are willing to pay for your expertise that you truly stand out in the industry. This podcast episode isn't just a discourse on skills versus business acumen; it's a call to action. It challenges you to reshape your perspective and embrace the multifaceted realm of entrepreneurship. So, whether you're an established event entrepreneur or just setting out on this exhilarating path, this episode has something compelling to offer. Tune in to gain a fresh perspective, be inspired by real stories, and equip yourself with the insights needed to transform your passion for events into a thriving, profitable venture. Remember, success is best achieved together. Quotes • "The more skillful you are doesn't mean that you're going to get booked. I can tell you for a fact that I know very talented event planners, designers, and decorators, but why are they not getting booked? Because they're not opening their mouth. They're not telling people about their business." (04:26 | May Yeo Silvers) • "Being great at sales is only one part of the equation. Determining and keeping track of your numbers will help you make the best decisions for yourself and your business, as well as protect you from having to go back to a corporate job." (14:42 | May Yeo Silvers) • "Confidence in your craft comes from clients willing to pay for your services. So, instead of constantly focusing on improving your skills, shift your attention to learning how to market yourself and showcase your incredible talents." (14:42 | May Yeo Silvers) • "Let's figure out what is the existing skill that you have that people say, 'I'll pay you to do this, you should charge money for this.' Let's focus on that first, and if you get an inquiry because you are focusing your energy on how to market to the outside world that your skill set is balloon installation, for instance, 99% will hire you for that thing." The traits that define a senior engineer are not catalogued perfectly in one spot. But, nevertheless, we'll try to cover some of the most important traits and habits of a senior engineer. In this episode, we'll discuss the fact that difficulty does not equate to value, and hazard a guess as to why we can easily confuse this, especially as we begin to grow from junior to senior roles. Feel free to incorporate these into your skill matrices, reviews, or job descriptions - I'd love to hear about it if you do!
