Mark D Conklin has done it all - a music executive, artist manager, producer and roots music artist, he's even interviewed the likes of Ellie Goulding and DJ Khaled. So what's next? He's venturing into Gospel music, with the cinematic album The Gospel According to Mark featuring narration by Gloria Gaynor.  Which is …you guessed it, a creative retelling of the Biblical book of Mark. He chats to Jess about the incredible artists who partnered with him on this project, his journey back to faith as an adult, and why he believes Christian music needs to reflect the harder parts of the human experience. Voices In My Head (The Official Podcast of Rick Lee James)

Voices In My Head (the Rick Lee James Podcast) Episode 545: Mark D. Conklin THE GOSPEL ACCORDING TO MARK BRINGS SCRIPTURE TO LIFE WITH MUSIC'S TOP NAMES Gloria Gaynor, Rita Wilson, The Fisk Jubilee Singers, Rhonda Vincent and Ernie Haase & Signature Sound Among Star-Studded Guests   Uniting a veritable who's who of Gospel, soul and country music luminaries for a uniquely inspired collection of song and spoken word, The Gospel According to Mark is set for release May 17 from StowTown Records. Created by and featuring acclaimed singer/songwriter Mark D. Conklin, the project's 12 standout musical collaborations are interwoven with 12 Scripture vignettes voiced by iconic songstress Gloria Gaynor.    Produced by Conklin who also wrote or co-penned each musical selection and GRAMMY winner Mark Prentice, the project offers fresh perspective on the New Testament book of Mark, chronologically conveying the account of Jesus' life, death and resurrection. With Gaynor's narrations anchoring every song, The Gospel According to Mark showcases musical contributions from renowned actress and singer Rita Wilson; internationally revered collegiate ensemble The Fisk Jubilee Singers; Gospel trailblazers The Fairfield Four; the “Queen of Bluegrass” Rhonda Vincent; Southern Gospel leaders Ernie Haase & Signature Sound; GRAMMY-winning recording artist John Berry; and ‘80s country hitmaker T. Graham Brown, among many others.    “While serving as the director of the GRAMMY Museum Experience at Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey, I had the privilege of sitting down with the legendary recording artist Gloria Gaynor in 2020,” Conklin recalls. “After spending time with her album and speaking with her about her unwavering dedication to the Lord, an awakening occurred within me. It ignited a long-dormant desire to embark on my own worship project dream I had put off for years.”   “Later, as I edited the audio of my interview with Gloria for a podcast, it hit me like a bolt of lightning,” he adds. “I knew THAT voice, HER voice, was the one! To my great delight and surprise, she graciously agreed to join me on my musical journey, and I will be forever grateful.”   “I'm so honored to have been asked to narrate The Gospel According to Mark and lend my voice to such an uplifting project that Mark D. Conklin has brought to life,” Gaynor shares. “To be part of such an amazing gathering of talent to share the Good News of the Gospel of Jesus Christ is truly a blessing for me.”   The Gospel According to Mark is highlighted by lead single “The Greatest is Love,” which is now available on digital platforms. Featuring acclaimed recording artist Wendy Moten, a runner-up on NBC's “The Voice," the retro rock 'n soul track embodies the nostalgic sounds of Memphis and Muscle Shoals.   Additional album standouts include the Rita Wilson spotlight “Through the Storm”; “Oh, Lonely Day,” a stirring Good Friday anthem with vocal contributions from John Berry and Rhonda Vincent; and the soulful “Take This Cup” with The Fairfield Four, an emotive musical rendering of Jesus' struggle in the Garden of Gethsemane. Conklin has also authored an exclusive devotional companion for The Gospel According to Mark. Unpacking scripturally-rooted insight behind each of the album's 12 songs, the devotions present encouragement for daily living, reflective questions and directed prayers.   ABOUT MARK D. Vocals by: Gail NoblesSong: Hold OnSong by: The McCrary SistersToday's topic: The McCrary Sisters. Ann, Regina, Deborah, and Alfreda. Deborah was known as the low, deep voiced member of the sisters. She left us at the age of 67. The McCrary Sisters are a gospel quartet from Nashville, Tennessee, formed in 2010 by sisters Ann McCrary, Deborah McCrary, Regina McCrary, and Alfreda McCrary. They have released four studio albums and one live album: Our Journey (2010), All the Way (2013), Let's Go (2015), Live (2017) and A Very McCrary Christmas (2019).The McCrary Sisters are the daughters of a former Baptist preacher, Reverend Samuel H. "Sam" McCrary (1913-1991), who was a founding member of The Fairfield Four. The four sisters (now 3 sister) are great in harmonizing. I love the kind of gospel songs that they sing. They are old school but can be new school too. They can sing with and without music. One of the songs that I love to hear the McCrary Sisters sing is “Hold On” from their 2015 album “Let's Go”. There are a lot of other great songs on that album too. What do they have for 2022? They have a new single titled “Run On” and another single titled “Shake It Off”. To find out more about the McCrary Sisters go to McCrarysisters.com. I'm Gail Nobles, and you're listening to a show about the Gospel Greats. Music News Commentary. …

Canciones para la Historia de la Humanidad como “Blowin’ In the Wind”, “Like A Rolling Stone”, “Maggie’s Farm” o “Knockin’ On Heaven’s Door” que describen notablemente la influencia del blues y el gospel en la composición dylaniana. Episode 114: They grew up in Nashville in the home of the legendary preacher and singer Rev. Sam McCrary, a key member of the Fairfield Four and a major figure in gospel music. They've sung, together and apart, on stages and in studios around the world. And they've become beloved anchors in Music City. After some work with producer/artist Buddy Miller, they answered popular demand to form their own quartet, and after several albums through the 2010s, the McCrarys have delivered their first Christmas album. It became a leaping off point for a joyful conversation about four remarkable lives in music.

The lineage of Nashville's Fairfield Four thrives and resonates in Odessa Settles, this week's guest on The String. The daughter of singer Walter J. Settles (1928-1999), Odessa is an in-demand singer who values the full spectrum of sacred to secular music, especially the roots/Americana world where she's amassed a long resume. She's been a guest vocalist on projects by Darrell Scott, Kathy Mattea, Tim O'Brien and last year's Rifles & Rosary Beads by Mary Gauthier. She works solo and in combination with her surviving brothers (she was the only girl of eight kids growing up) in the vocal group The Settles Connection. And she's pulled all this off while maintaining an intense career as a nurse for premature babies at Vanderbilt Medical Center. Also in the hour, a visit with Trent Wagler and Jay Lapp, veterans of VA band The Steel Wheels, who've just released their seventh LP album.
