Happy 2020! This week, I have the joy of chatting to two of my favourite social media creators in the London fashion scene who not only make me laugh my ass off, but also help me think about the deeper systemic issues going on in our industry. These two people are @skipdin and @trash4gold. @skipdin, AKA George Serventi, is an Instagram fashion critic who commentates on the industry for the likes of LOVE magazine and SHOWstudio. His profile is filled with pointed memes and hilarious captions to match. @trash4gold AKA Chekii Harling, is the founder of TRASHmag -- a publication that highlights alternatives to fast fashion and the throwaway mindset towards clothing. Similar to George, Chekii also loves a great meme -- with a sustainable fashion twist, of course. On the side, she teams up with the likes of London Fashion Week and Fashion Roundtable to create content that sparks positive change. Follow:  @trash4gold @skipdin Have show feedback? On the latest episode of Fashion Originators, I chat with Natalie Simond (founder of Amadeus Bijoux), Alice McAnulty (Lone Design Club), and Sophie Dunster (founder of Gung Ho London) in the Lone Design Club anti Black Friday pop up store. During our conversation, we explored the (rather ambiguous) question of what sustainable fashion really means, and how we can create better businesses (and be better shoppers).  Thank you so much to Lone Design Club for being an incredible venue for such an important conversation, and for bringing creators like Sophie, Nathalie, Alice and myself together. I was so humbled by my audience for their incredible questions, attention and turn out. This week, I have the joy of speaking with Shaunie Brett; a sustainable fashion business consultant and Cambridge masters student. Despite her thriving career as a stylist for the likes of LOVE magazine, Burberry, and menswear start-up Thread, Shaunie knew something wasn't right in her life. Realizing this feeling was derived from a form of clothing addiction (let's be real -- we've all been there), Shaunie decided to not buy ANY new clothes for a year, her #nonewclothes challenge being featured publicly in the Evening Standard.  Presently, Shaunie has not only gone one year without shopping, but she has also freed herself of anxiety, and transformed her fashion career into one that aligns with her new lifestyle. On the show today, Shaunie shares her advice on how you can build a fashion career that feels authentic to you, and how shopping less is actually easier than you think.  Follow Shaunie:  Instagram - @shauniemaker Website - Sussed Consulting Recommended Media:  The Book of Dust Cherry Wardrobe Crisis Podcast Also.... On the latest episode of Fashion Originators, I have the joy of interviewing Patrick McDowell, who, as aptly put by L’Officiel Magazine, is the ‘CSM graduate already dressing the stars.’ While that is very true (the likes of Rita Ora, M.I.A and Slick Woods on the cover of Elle UK serve as evidence), Patrick’s brand and vision go far beyond straight-up glamour. During his placement year at Burberry, Patrick learned that Burberry only used 30% of their sampling fabric. After writing Christopher Bailey a letter, Patrick was given off-cut fabric to use for his graduate collection. Entitled ‘Climbing Family’ the collection is a juxtaposition of hypermasculine climbingwear against his ‘Liverpool glam’ roots.  Recommended Media:  Clare Press book, podcast  Charles Jeffrey Loverboy  Patrick on BBC's Young Apprentice Patrick's graduate collection  Follow Patrick:  Instagram, website  To keep up-to-date with everything Fashion Originators: For podcast updates - www.fashionoriginators.com  For Instagram fun - www.instagram.com/fashionoriginatorspodcast For Facebook updates - www.facebook.com/fashionoriginators Thank you so much for listening!
