O właściwościach, wyzwaniach i rozwoju rynku kredytów SLL opowiada Joanna Sobótka-Klimczak, Sustainability Expert w ING Banku Śląskim. Zapraszamy!

About Today's Show Welcome to episode 8, Season 5 of #SenecaProud Podcast! Question:  What do you do with the clothes you no longer wear?  If you're like me, you try to donate them when you can, but what if they're tattered?  For me, I probably throw them into the garbage, which of course goes straight to the landfill.  Turns out, textile waste is a big problem, both globally, and in Canada as well.   Here are some statistics, courtesy of Earth.org: 92 Million Tonnes of Textiles Waste is Produced Every Year - which is the equivalent of one garbage truck full of clothes ending up in a landfill site every second. The number of times a garment is worn is now between 7 to 10 times before it is discarded. To produce 1 kg of cotton requires 20,000 litres of water, and producing a single t-shirt requires 2,700 litres of water. Clearly this is a serious problem, and our guest in today's show is not only a Seneca Professor, she is also one of Canada's formost experts on the topic, Dr. Sabine Weber.  In this show we talk about her Dumpster Study, funded by Seneca's Applied Research Fund.  And.... In this episode we also learn: How serious the problem is in Canada The opportunity for entrepreneurs to solve the supply chain challenges, so that garmets can be recycled more easily What we can do to help reduce our textile waste So much more! About our Guest, Dr. Sabine Weber Sabine Weber has been teaching at Seneca Polytechnic since 2016, in the school of fashion, where she teaches in all three fashion programs: Fashion Business & Fashion Business Management, Fashion Arts and Fashion Studies.  Prior to coming to Canada, Sabine began her career in Germany and later in Switzerland, where as a fasion buyer she oversaw a purchasing budget of over $250 million per year.  Currently, Sabine's research topics are sustainable fashion, textile waste, and social innovation. Sabine's main interest is how social innovation can help to transition the fashion industry towards sustainability. Her particular focus is textile waste and a circular fashion system. And along with her students, she completed what became known as the Dumpster Dive study, which was funded by Seneca's Applied Research Fund. We touch on that study in our conversation.  Sabine hold both a Master's Degree, and a PhD from the University of Waterloo.  This description of Sabine only scratches the surface of Sabine's accomplishments in the area of textile waste and sustainable fashion.  Suffice it to say, Sabine is one of, if not number one, expert on this topic, in Canada.  And she teaches right here at Seneca! Pretty cool.  Important Links Read more on the Dumpster Dive Studey here. To read more about the global issue of textiles, click here to visit Earth.org. She is a popular lecturer and holds courses in LEED, BREEAM, Environmental Construction and Work Environment and leads training courses at the Sweden Green Building Council (LEED and BREEAM).    Pia is a member of the Sweden Green Building Council (SGBC) and is part of the LEED committee. Environmental sustainability is often seen as just minimising the impact on a company's business model. Environmental expert Trevor Hutchings from Gemserv argues that companies need to strive to become net-positive, giving back more than they take out. Trevor is Director of Strategy and Communications at Gemserv and spent much of his early career in the UK civil service, working in a number of government departments and with the European Commission in Brussels, including positions at the Department of Energy and Climate Change where he was responsible for major programs on energy efficiency and the low carbon economy. He went on to join the World Wildlife Fund, the global conservation charity, where he was Director of Advocacy, working to improve public policy on the environment. As well as his role at Gemserv, Trevor is chair of the Green Purposes Company set up by the Government to safeguard the green mission of the UK's Green Investment Bank. He is also a Fellow at the Institute of Environmental Management and Assessment. We spoke about a topic that has been in the news lately - that of the “right of repair” of technical devices and the whole notion of sustainability. We also spoke about how companies can realistically move towards net zero, or even net positive.More on TrevorTrevor on LinkedInTrevor on TwitterGemserv websiteYour Host: Actionable Futurist® Andrew GrillFor more on Andrew - what he speaks about and recent talks, please visit ActionableFuturist.com Andrew's Social ChannelsAndrew on LinkedIn@AndrewGrill on Twitter @Andrew.Grill on InstagramKeynote speeches hereAndrew's upcoming book

Today's podcast features my conversation with Bristol bar and restaurant owner Mike Harris, The Strawberry Thief. After many years following a career as a sustainability specialist, including time with the Eden Project, he decided to go back to his hospitality roots.  In 2016 he bought The Strawberry Thief, situated on Broad street near St Nicholas market, in the centre of Bristol.    I talk to Mike about how he has applied his years of working in the business of sustainability to the Strawberry Thief, with some practical tips that will be useful for any organisation looking to meet their net zero targets.  We chat about the importance of having great staff and incentivising them to really buy into the ethos of the business. We also touch on the whole alcohol-free movement. As someone who went a whole year no beer back in 2021, I love a real ale and the alcohol free versions are fantastic.  It was humbling to chat to Mike who reflected on pursuing his dreams after his personal experience with cancer.   I hope you find this podcast as inspiring as I do.   Find out more about Mike and The Strawberry Thief: LinkedIn The Strawberry Thief websiteThe Strawberry Thief on Instagram Mentioned in the podcast:Penny Brohn Cancer Care CentreClayton Hotel Bristol St Nicholas Market  Subscribe to receive the content planning guide and template Huge thanks to podcast sponsor Noble Performs. Alex has spoken at the World Economic Forum in Davos, testified in the UK Parliament, and given the TED talk “What to Trust in a Post-Truth World” and the TEDx talk “The Social Responsibility of Business” with a combined 2.4 million views. Alex's book, “Grow the Pie: How Great Companies Deliver Both Purpose and Profit”, (see also link here:  https://mybook.to/Grow-The-Pie-pb) was featured in the Financial Times list of Business Books of the Year for 2020, and he is a co-author of “Principles of Corporate Finance” (with Brealey, Myers, and Allen) for the 14th edition to be published in April 2022. Poets and Quants named him Professor of the Year for 2021.Our conversation starts with Alex's first foray into finance, which was as a practitioner and why he saw a path of academia as enabling him to have broader reach, and ultimately create more impact.  We speak in detail about his areas of focus, and Alex is honest about the danger of academic research being cherry-picked to lend credence to different objectives. We use some relatable analogies to explain the benefits of engagement v. divestment, and explore the meaning of what "responsible business practice" really means and the trade-offs that are involved.Alex is noted for bringing the latest in cutting edge sustainability research into industry in a digestible and commercial way, and for this reason I believe he is responsible for "shrinking the gap" between theory and practice. This is a broad-reaching and stimulating discussion.Series 2 of the 2022 Fiftyfaces Podcast is brought to you with the kind support of the William Blair Active Share Podcast.

Drena holds a Bachelor of Science in Biology from South Carolina State University, which is an important Historically black university, or HBCU. Drena also holds a Masters of Environmental Management and a Master of Public Health, both from Yale University. Drena is recognized as a leader in EHS as showcased by her roles with the National Association of Environmental Managers, where she is currently on the board of directors. -- Notable Quotes and Concepts from Drena: What do you like about being in Environmental Health & Safety “Serious injuries can completely alter a person's life… being able to prevent something like that from happening…so that they can have their limbs, their mobility, and can provide for themselves and their family as well as do the things they love to do on the weekends… makes my day”  -  Regarding how Drena would like to see the EHS profession change: “There are a lot more people of color and women in the environmental health and safety profession, but they're not always represented in conferences or trade events and trade shows… I would encourage organizations – if you have up and coming talent, whether they be women, people of color, LGBTQA, etc. that instead of just always sending your most senior people to the conference, send some of your more junior people. Send some of your more diverse candidates to these conferences, to these trade shows. Because it shows representation of your organization as well as it is a way to groom and develop your talent through their exposure, the things that they learn from the conference…” -   “I am passionate about environmental justice because if you can improve the health and quality of air, quality of water in these communities, it gives more people an opportunity to go on to advanced education because they're not sick and missing school. And if they're not sick and missing school, then they have more job opportunities. It creates a stronger pipeline for the future as a whole… Environmental justice is not just limited to ‘not in my back yard.' It's what are some of those opportunities to improve the air, the water, the basic things that people need to function and live, which then opens up so many more pathways for success. ”  -   “Ask for what you what. Ask about the opportunities ”
