The pressure on trial lawyers, judges, plaintiffs, defendants, and court systems is only increasing. Take New Jersey as an example, where the backlog of cases nearly quadrupled in a year between February 2020 and 2021, the first year of the pandemic, according to NJ Spotlight News (NJSN). The state is also facing a historic shortage of jurists, “leading to overworked judges, huge case backlogs and nearly 7,000 defendants in jail without bail, some 500 of them for more than two years despite a law that essentially requires a trial within two years for anyone detained,” NJSN reported. One court official told the state Assembly Budget Committee about the impact the pandemic had on the court system. “Buildings were closed to most in-person trials for more than a year, although other proceedings continued virtually. The business closures and high unemployment led to a housing crisis that resulted in more than 46,000 pending cases that involve landlord-tenant issues,” NJSN reported. “But with all courts open and staff back to work in person, it is impossible to eliminate the backlog of cases with so many open judge seats.” The problem is attributed to the state Senate, where the process is mired, even though the governor is making appointments.According to the National Counsel for State Courts, backlogs at one third of U.S. courts increased by 5%.  It would have been worse had courts not held virtual hearings. Using the Court Statistic Project database, the numbers reveal in stark terms the impact the pandemic had in the year it came to America. Dispositions dropped from 43M in 2019 to 28M in 2020. Bench trials fell from 3M in 2019 to under 2M in 2020. Jury trials plummeted from 49K in 2019 to less than 19K in 2020. The Washington Post reported that the Pennsylvania Supreme Court declared a judicial emergency and extended deadlines. Virginia's Supreme Court suspended nonessential proceedings. The Iowa Supreme Court pushed back criminal trials and the Alabama's Supreme Court suspended in-person proceedings. New Jersey Supreme Court Chief Justice Stuart Rabner warned that the judicial shortage “comes with a price.” Listen to my interview with Diana C. 1. Markets are trying to start a bear market rally. Today, the major indexes are higher across the board. tech seems to be the lagged despite being positive. That is something that catches my eye right away. 2. Energy is on fire today. Oil is trading higher by 5.9% to $84.00 a barrel. Oil looks very good on the charts. In fact, today I closed out an oil call option for 34% in one trading day. Energy stocks are also surging in the session. Natural gas is under some pressure today trading lower by 5.0%, but that needed to correct from a very overbought condition.  3. Tesla (TSLA) is falling today, breaking lower by 6.3%. The company came up short for Q3 delivery estimates. 3. Precious metals are strong today. Gold is higher by 1.5%, but silver is stealing the show with a 8% gain. As you know, silver is my favorite position right now. Full disclosure:  I own SLV and SIL call options4. Bitcoin is flat, but  trading above 19K. So it lives to fight another day right now, but as I have said repeatedly it will eventually fall below 13K on the next decline.  

Bitcoin Futures (/BTC) dropped back below the $19K price level. "There was a classic case of risk-on this morning as the U.S. Dollar was slightly weaker and when it started to rally back up, it was a case of risk-off. The crypto market is tentative currently like the equity market. Bitcoin traded with the Nasdaq in the past and now it is trading with the U.S. Dollar," says Scott Bauer.

Quant crypto analyst PlanB, creator of the notorious Bitcoin stock-to-flow model (S2F) is now predicting the Bitcoin price to soar 5x-50x from it's current price reaching $100K - $1 million per coin in the next 3 years. "IMO 2024 halving will (again and in line with S2F) have a big (lagged or front-run) impact on Bitcoin. My prediction: BTC will be $100K-$1M in 2025 (yellow square), 5x-50x from current $19K next 3 yrs. This forecast is not accurate, but better roughly right than precisely wrong." Carl Quintanilla and Jim Cramer began the show with a look at the market action, with the S&P on pace for its worst first half since 1970. The anchors also broke down a slew of economic data, as core personal consumption expenditures prices, excluding food and energy, rose 4.7% from a year ago, slightly less than expected. They also drilled down on RH, the latest company to issue a warning on the consumer. Shares of that stock slid after the company lowered its outlook for the year. Also in the mix: Bitcoin dipped below $19K and is headed towards its worst month on record.
