Our good friend Rich Nassif is back! Rich spent 17 years as a Division I collegiate soccer coach and was around when the idea of a two-semester college soccer schedule was first floated, so he's got a front-row perspective on how we got here. The timing couldn't be better: on June 23-24, the NCAA Division I Cabinet meets to decide the fate of men's college soccer's playing schedule. The Division I Men's Soccer Oversight Committee has already adopted legislation to split the season across fall and spring semesters starting in 2027-28, but the Cabinet still has to sign off before it becomes official. If approved, teams would play up to 18 matches in a fall window (late August through the Saturday before Thanksgiving) and up to 10 more in a spring window starting mid-February, with the College Cup moving to the spring. If it's rejected, the current compressed fall-only season stays put. Rich sits down with Brooks to discuss how college coaches really feel about the two-semester schedule, and the positives and negatives it could bring to programs across the country. If you loved this episode, drop us a review and rating — it genuinely helps us grow! ⚽

What happens when a nurse-turned-speechwriter has a eureka moment in a big-box store and decides to reinvent the way America cleans? In this episode of the Balancing Act podcast, host Andy Temte talks with Monica Nassif—the founder of Mrs. Meyer's Clean Day and Caldrea—about building brands rooted in authenticity, disrupting a $30 billion market, and knowing when to let go of the business you built from nothing. Monica Nassif is a serial entrepreneur, brand builder, consultant, and author based in Minneapolis. She founded Caldrea in 2000 and Mrs. Meyer's Clean Day in 2002, scaling the brands into more than 20,000 stores nationwide before selling to SC Johnson in 2008. Her career began at Target Corporation (then Dayton Hudson) as an executive speechwriter, and she went on to found the marketing communications agency Kilter Inc. Monica has been inducted into the Minnesota Business Hall of Fame and named University of Minnesota Entrepreneur of the Year and Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year (Midwest Division). Her work has been featured in The New York Times, Fast Company, and Real Simple. She also appeared on NPR's How I Built This with Guy Raz. Her new book, I Bottled My Mother: The Mrs. Meyer's Story: Grit, Grime & Growing a Business (IdeaPress Publishing, March 2026), is her third book. Monica's rocket-booster moment came at 28—the oldest intern in Target's history—when her English advisor slid an internship application across the table and changed the trajectory of her career. That experience ignited a love for retail and consumer products that eventually led her to walk a big-box store in Atlanta, look at a pallet of garish cleaning products, and ask, “What if that was awesome?” Guest: Monica Nassif Website: monicanassif.com Book: I Bottled My Mother: The Mrs. Meyer's Story: Grit, Grime & Growing a Business (IdeaPress Publishing, March 2026) LinkedIn: linkedin.com/in/monica-nassif-686876335 Host: Andy Temte Website: andrewtemte.com Available on YouTube, Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Podbean, and all major streaming platforms.

"Different is better than better." It's the belief that drove Monica Nassif to build one of the most beloved household brands in America, and in the latest episode of the 2B Bolder podcast series, she sat down with me to share exactly how she did it. And this was a conversation I didn't want to end.Monica didn't stumble into entrepreneurship. She grew up the oldest girl in a family of nine kids, all born within 10 years, running the household when her mom needed backup, holding jobs from age 10 onward, babysitting, waitressing at a truck stop (where she lied about her age at 15!), and typing in an ER at 16. Her mom's mantra? "Learn to work with people." That stuck. What I love most about Monica's story is the boldness of her strategy. She built a beautiful, high-end cleaning brand called Caldria, and then deliberately set out to compete with herself before anyone else could. That's how Mrs. Meyer's was born, inspired by her real Midwestern mom, Thelma Meyer, the original recycler who wasted absolutely nothing. We cover so much:Why she trusted trend-spotting over focus groups How packaging and fragrance turned cleaning products into something people wanted on their countertops The two "belly flops" and the financial guardrails she used to shut one down before it became a sinkhole Building an up-tempo culture with office badminton, ornament contests, and talent showsWhy authenticity and storytelling are your biggest competitive advantages right now, especially in the age of AIAnd she's got a book coming late April, I Bottled My Mother: The Mrs. Meyer Story, Grit, Grime, and Growing a Business, part love letter to her mom, part startup manual. It's the business book that's actually funny and emotionally honest. I cannot wait to get my hands on it. I'm sure it will be a very popular business book. Her advice to her younger self? Monica Nassif didn't just build a brand—she bottled a legacy. I Bottled My Mother is the gritty, hilarious, heartfelt origin story behind Mrs. Meyer's Clean Day, the cult-favorite cleaning line inspired by Monica's real-life mom, Thelma Meyer: a whip-smart, no-nonsense Midwesterner who raised nine children with little more than elbow grease, common sense, and a garden full of vegetables.Part startup manual, part memoir, this is the candid story of how one woman turned domestic skills into corporate strategy, and a small soap company into a household name. From a chaotic Iowa childhood to a career in brand building and product development, Monica brings us inside the messy business of entrepreneurship—one that began on her kitchen floor and grew into a national retail presence with shelves in Walmart, Target, Whole Foods, and beyond. Told in short, sharp chapters with warmth and wit, this is a story about startups, motherhood, and the power of building something honest, authentic and good. For anyone who's ever asked: “How do I make my way in the world using what I already have?”—this book is your bottle of encouragement. Meet Mrs. Meyers: the 93-year-old woman who gave birth to nine children in ten years.Monica Nassif is a founder, entrepreneur, brand builder, and motivational speaker known for pioneering success in the consumer household cleaning product market through her ventures including Mrs. Meyer's Clean Day. Fearless with a can-do, hands-on approach to running a business, Nassif launched four startups. Two succeeded and two flopped. Her most successful venture, the Mrs. Meyer's Clean Day brand, completely revolutionized the $30 billion U.S. consumer market of household cleaning products. She created aromatherapeutic and earth-friendly products with a consistent fragrance and performance across all types of household cleaners—counter-top spray, dish soap, hand soap, laundry detergent and more.Nassif built two brands in this new premium category: Caldrea and Mrs. Meyer's Clean Day. She didn't just build the Mrs. Meyer's brand from scratch—Nassif bottled a legacy—her mother. The cult-like favorite cleaning line was inspired by Nassif's real-life mom, Thelma Meyer: a whip-smart, no-nonsense Midwesterner who raised nine children with little more than elbow grease, commonsense and a garden full of vegetables. Nassif believes in the power of building authentic and authoritative brands to stand the test of time. She sold her company to SC Johnson in 2008, and the Mrs. Meyer's brand continues to thrive in the marketplace. To this day, Nassif inspires entrepreneurs and founders with her success story of hard work, perseverance and marketing savvy. She launched her career with Target Corporation in marketing communications as a speechwriter, editor and publicist. She continued her career by launching a marketing communications agency in Minneapolis called Kilter Incorporated. The agency served consumer product brands and retail companies, such as Target. During that time, she honed her talent for building beloved brands.

Building Sociedades Más Justas: Youth Justice in Colombia Claire de Mézerville López and cohost IIRP Lecturer A. Miguel Tello welcome Lina Hernández Nassif to the Restorative Works! Podcast.  Lina brings a wealth of experience from her work implementing restorative justice programs, particularly with youth in Colombia. Her journey spans from coordinating conflict resolution programs in prisons to facilitating initiatives for vulnerable teenagers across diverse socio-cultural contexts. In this compelling conversation, Lina shares pivotal outcomes from her programs, emphasizing the crucial role of victims in the restorative justice process. By placing survivors at the heart of justice initiatives, Lina and her team create safe spaces where individuals can process trauma, find closure, and embark on paths to reconciliation. She highlights success stories of teenagers who, after engaging in restorative justice, have overcome adversity to pursue education, employment, and stable lives. Lina dispels myths about restorative justice, stressing its practical application beyond theory. She advocates for professionals to engage directly with communities, fostering understanding and support for youth facing complex challenges. Her insights challenge conventional punitive measures, advocating instead for collaborative efforts among institutions to maximize impact and promote societal healing. Lina has a wide range of experience implementing restorative justice processes. She coordinated programs focused on conflict resolution inside and outside prisons with adults. In recent years, her work has focused on caring for youth within the criminal responsibility system, specifically for teenagers from different socio-cultural contexts such as migrants, natives, LGBTIQ+ community, and more. In 2022, Lina had the opportunity to work for the World Food Program through the Corporation for Community Social Development in the registration of more than 60,000 Venezuelans in vulnerable conditions so they could have access to government benefits in the Antioquia territory. Recently, she has been in charge of the coordination of the judicial monetary program for drug treatment, which was developed in an agreement between the government of Antioquia and the prison fellowship of Colombia to develop restorative justice processes for teens who have committed crimes due to drug use and addiction. Tune in to learn more about Lina's work and the expansiveness of the impact restorative justice can have on youth and their communities.

Mrs. Meyer's is a hugely successful line of soaps and cleansers named for a real Mrs. Meyer: a no-nonsense Iowa homemaker who raised nine kids, including the brand's founder. When Monica Nassif started Mrs. Meyer's, she'd already launched an upscale cleaning brand, but it was too pricey for the mass market. Worried that another company might muscle into her lane, Monica decided to knock herself off: she launched Mrs. Meyer's with an elegant design and exotic fragrances– but at a price point that allowed her to target Target. Monica's mom Thelma became a beloved mascot for the brand, which–after spreading to sinks across America — was eventually acquired by S.C. Sleep is a fundamental aspect of our lives that often goes overlooked or undervalued. Many people believe that the key to a good night's sleep lies in external solutions, such as melatonin pills, sleep mattresses, or herbal supplements. However, what we fail to realize is that sleep is not a random occurrence; it is a carefully orchestrated process controlled by the laws of physics and influenced by the cues we receive from our environment.   In this episode, we had the pleasure of speaking with Roudy Nassif, a renowned Engineer, Health Entrepreneur, Light Expert, and Founder of VivaRays, where we delved deep into the fascinating world of sleep and energy, discussing practical tips and strategies that can transform your life.   Roudy's knowledge and expertise are truly remarkable. He has a unique ability to simplify complex concepts, making them accessible to everyone, even a three-year-old! We explored the impact of light on our sleep patterns, the importance of blocking artificial light at night, and how these factors can significantly improve our overall well-being.   But that's not all! We also touched on the topic of menopause and women's hormones, diving into the technical aspects while keeping it simple and relatable. If you're experiencing menopause or want to understand it better, this episode is a must-listen.   One of the highlights of our conversation was Roudy's personal journey with his mother. By introducing her to the power of blocking artificial light at night, he witnessed a profound transformation in her life. She regained her sleep, and with it, her energy, drive, and motivation. It's truly inspiring to see how a simple change can have such a profound impact.   We encourage you to tune in to this episode and discover the incredible insights Roudy has to offer. Whether you're struggling with sleep issues, seeking ways to boost your energy levels, or simply curious about optimizing your well-being, you'll find valuable takeaways in this conversation.     Key Takeaways: [00:00:22] Sleep by design. [00:06:07] Making a hard left [00:10:14] Farmers' lifestyle and health. [00:12:22] Artificial light and well-being. [00:17:09] Importance of circadian rhythm. [00:20:00] Protecting the first hour. [00:25:58] Blue light in nature. [00:27:18] Blue light and eye health. [00:34:39] Artificial light at night. [00:37:20] Boosting productivity with natural light. [00:41:34] Eliminating obstacles for optimal health. [00:43:14] Blue light blocking glasses. [00:49:01] Ethical sourcing and sustainable practices. [00:51:07] Hormones and sunlight impact. [00:55:13] Retaining blood for wisdom.     Memorable Quotes "The quality of the sleep that we get and how rested and energized we feel when we wake up the following morning is controlled by laws of physics. And the main force that control how well we sleep and how rested we feel when we wake up is the circadian force." – Roudy Nassif    "The problem is when we wake up and we blast blue light in our face from the phone or from an LED bulb, the bulb has a spike of blue light at 455 nanometers that is not balanced and proportionate with orange and red light. And this is where blue light becomes inflammatory." – Roudy Nassif   VivaRay FREE GIFT: https://vivarays.com/pages/ebook?utm_source=betty-murray&utm_campaign=menopause-mastery-podcast&utm_medium=referral   VivaRay Socials  Instagram https://www.instagram.com/electromagnetic_diet/  Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/vivarays/   Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/vivarays  LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/company/vivarays/  Youtube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCNFEr3dKS105kjstvrXmMeg     Website Living Well Dallas Betty Murray   Socials  Facebook Instagram
