What actually separates a fully engaged mob from one that feels flat, quiet, or stuck? And why does that difference matter far beyond team morale? In this episode of the Mob Mentality Show, we explore how team engagement directly impacts software delivery, learning, and long-term sustainability. Drawing from real mob programming experiences—ranging from high-energy, large-group collaboration to small teams struggling with disengagement—we unpack the patterns behind why engagement rises or fades. Rather than offering a one-size-fits-all playbook, this conversation treats engagement as a systems and complexity problem. We discuss how engagement shows up differently in quiet vs. loud mobs, how personal context and learning overload can influence participation, and why disengagement is often a signal—not a character flaw. You'll hear practical ways facilitators and teams can probe, sense, and respond when engagement drops, including: - The difference between intrinsic and extrinsic motivation in mob settings - When small format changes help—and when they're only a temporary band-aid - How psychological safety affects learning, contribution, and retention - Techniques for surfacing hidden confusion without negatively calling people out - Why repeated work and lack of progress quietly drain motivation - When disengagement points to deeper systemic or environmental issues We also connect engagement to outcomes leaders care about: flow, learning speed, delivery quality, and business impact. This isn't about forcing fun or “rah-rah” energy—it's about creating conditions where people want to contribute, can contribute, and see the value of innovating together. Whether you're a developer, facilitator, tech lead, or engineering manager, this episode offers concrete signals to watch for and experiments to try—while respecting the complexity of human systems. If you've ever wondered why one mob feels alive and another feels exhausting, this conversation can help you see what's really going on beneath the surface. Here we come to the next exhortation in this unit of Romans. We are warned of the danger we all face and called to intentionally and enthusiastically engage in our life with Christ. But as we discover, this is not about digging deep within ourselves but learning to live and serve in the new way of the Spirit. The power we need to give our all in following Jesus comes from Jesus who has already given his all to make us his own.

On today's episode, we chat with Jerrad Lopes! A pastor for more than a decade before launching the Dad Tired movement, Jerrad Lopes is also a sought-after speaker at men's ministry events around the country. His books include Dad Tired and Loving It ; The Dad Tired Guide to Basic Bible Study ; Stop Behaving ; and Fully Engaged. Lopes and his wife Leila live in South Carolina with their four children. The purpose of Dad Tired is to be a reminder that I don't have to live up to the unspoken pressure to be perfect for my family and I don't have to get buried in shame when I'm not perfect,” Lopes says. “Men need to feel the grace of being able to rest in someone better, and that's Jesus. He lifts the weight off my shoulders so I can lead by being the first one to repent; to confess sin; to humbly admit when I make mistakes; and to be the first one to lead my family to our Better Hero.” My Daddy's Hero is the latest in a range of Dad Tired offerings designed to help men embrace their responsibilities as spiritual leaders. For nearly a decade, the Dad Tired movement has cultivated a unique community of men around the world united under one mission—to fall in love with Jesus and help their families do the same. dadtired.com @dad.tired christianmusicguys.com @christianmusicguys --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/christianmusicguys/message

There's one last thing that we can learn from the life of Joseph. He was a good man who was fully engaged with Jesus. A lot of guys are around during the birth, but when the religious stuff, the spiritual stuff happens, they hand off that to mom's department, but not Joseph. Joseph was quite a man, wasn't he? If you've been tracking with us these past few days, then you have some clarity as to why God tapped Joseph on the shoulder to be the earthly father of His only Son.

Meet Adair Cates Adair Cates, one of my very dear friends, is a mom of twin girls, XCHANGE facilitator, Conscious Leadership trainer, and coach passionate about doing the inner work to be our best selves. Adair has designed and facilitated thousands of one-on-one and group conversations to unlock potential, promote well-being and accelerate sustained change. Using the strengths-based XCHANGE approach, Adair has led everything from team engagement events in organizations like Microsoft and Meta (Facebook) to online TedX gatherings, multi-day women's retreats, and organization-wide Conscious Leadership development trainings. She's a master experience designer and facilitator and a certified Heartmath Resilience Trainer with 15+ years of experience in adult education, leadership development, and mindfulness. She is the author of two self-development books, Live with Intention and Fully Engaged. In this episode, I talked with Adair Cates, my dear friend, about living life on life's terms and how she has moved through and been healing her nervous system, body, and mind after experiencing incredible loss. We often discuss spiritual and energy practices that help us stay regulated, resourced, and grounded. One of the biggest learnings on both parts is slowing down. Adair reminds us that we can attract instead of hustle and that relationships are more than just getting shit done. Regulating Your Nervous System Adair sadly lost her co-parenting partner and father to her twin daughters two years ago. She dealt with a degenerative eye condition that had her stop driving and other daily activities. Learning to regulate her nervous system was crucial to handling the grief, stressor, and loss as a mom to two young girls. Adair talked about the healing effects of techniques like breathwork, meditation, kundalini yoga, and other self-care practices promoting nervous system regulation. Giving Yourself Space To Have All Your Feelings One of the gifts from so much grief and loss was learning to give herself the space to experience and have all of her feelings. This is an excellent reminder for us that rather than running away, numbing out, or trying to avoid upsetting feelings, we want to learn how to create a compassionate space to feel whatever it is your feeling. Cultivating a kind and loving space for yourself can make all the difference in your healing journey, whether you're experiencing loss, grief, or a challenge. How Curiosity Can Heal One aspect of healing that so many overlooks is the power of curiosity. I teach this in my spiritual life coaching certification, and we discussed the healing aspect of questions because questions unlock new possibilities and affirmations. An example might be to ask yourself amidst a challenging time, ‘How might this be a blessing'? By embracing a curious mindset, Adair started to change how she viewed her eye diagnosis, new life circumstances, and life changes. Sacred feminine friendships are all about authentic connections nourishing the soul and creating space for deep empathy, vulnerability, unconditional support, and love. I pray you also find sacred feminine friendships where you can grow together, share heartbreaks and celebrations, and be your most authentic self.
