He didn't give me a specific topic so I wanted to cover an article about two curvy thick women that weren't allowed into a nightclub because they were too damn fat. Here's what an article I've linked below has to say and I quote: "Two women are speaking out after they were denied entry to a popular Hollywood nightclub because of their body size. The two women, who are models and social media influencers, said this isn't the first time something like this has happened to them while trying to enter a bar or nightclub in LA. The women shared their story on social media and say it's resonating with women all over the country who have experienced similar discrimination. Ella Halikas says a bouncer told her and fellow “curvy” model, Alexa Jay, that they couldn't follow their friends into The Highlight Room in Hollywood. “(Alexa) asked him ‘Hey what's going on? I'm actually with that party you just let in,' and he said, ‘I know,' and looked her up and down and said, ‘Not tonight,'” Ella said. The women decided to share the incident on social media. “We're tired of playing safe. We're tired of just letting this happen and not speaking up about it,” Ella said in an Instagram post. “It was so dehumanizing,” said Alexa. “It was like we were being looked through. If you experienced any type of discrimination like this, you know exactly how horrible and disgusting it feels and we are no longer letting this fly.” The women believe this problem goes beyond one nightclub. Halikas says she has received thousands of messages from other plus-sized women sharing similar stories of being turned away from bars and nightclubs. “One of my plus-sized friends went to a club in New York City and they said, ‘Everyone else can come in,'” said Halikas. “They let in all her thin friends, got to her and said, ‘You can't get in.' She asked, ‘Why?' and he goes, ‘If you want to come in, pay $4,000.” Halikas tells me she embraces her body and she's confident, enjoying her career as a swimsuit model while walking runways and gracing the pages of Sports Illustrated magazine. Yet, that still didn't stop her from being turned away. “It felt like we were alone,” said Halikas. “It felt like we were plucked out of a crowd and I just felt like we need to share this because it's not about us not getting into the Highlight Room, we don't care. It's the bigger picture of how many girls face this every single day. It was discrimination – 100 percent.” The Tao Group, operators of The Highlight Room, responded to the incident by saying: “We are aware of Ella and Alexa's experience. The doorman on this particular evening worked for a third-party promotion company and we've removed this individual from the door effective immediately.Support this podcast at — https://redcircle.com/mgtow/donationsAdvertising Inquiries: https://redcircle.com/brandsPrivacy & Opt-Out: https://redcircle.com/privacy

Which professional soccer player shoved a $20 bill in a waitress' mouth? Which famous actress with legal troubles had a waitress pretend to be her to evade the paparazzi? Which talent manager promised a waitress a spot on Love Island in exchange for sex?As someone who's been clubbing for 13 years, I've long been fascinated with bottle waitresses. You know - those gorgeous girls in skintight dresses bringing over the magnums of champagne and sparklers. I saw their job as a tremendous position of feminine power: arm candy getting paid to party with important people in important places. I wanted to be one of them. Or…so I thought. This week's VERY JUICY anonymous waitresses worked for a super exclusive downtown New York hospitality group, Catch, the Tao Group, Soho House, Public Hotel (created by Ian Schrager of Studio 54), and a notorious high-end strip club in London. Our on-the-record contributor Allie (IG: @allie.keel) even worked some shady private parties in Malaysia when she was only 17!At their best, they hung out with prime ministers & pop stars and made $10,000 in a night. At their worst, they were forced into deeply compromising situations to get tips, got taken advantage of by their bosses, picked up used heroin needles from bathroom floors, and sang ‘Itsy Bitsy Spider' in slam poetry (!). In between, their lives, which began at 9pm and ended at 5am, lacked structure and purpose. They found it hard to establish romantic relationships. They crumbled under pressure to maintain the ‘perfect body' (even their hands). And they worried about their impending expiration dates. What would come next?Learn the dirty truth about being a bottle girl while getting an intimate and cohesive look into how the world's most exclusive nightclubs operate. In this Episode we sit down with Shawn Timmons and Tiffany Hill CEO & COO of Skywalker consulting. Tiffany a former educator and Shawn a former manager for Tao Group entertainment are now successful entrepreneurs in the financial industry. They are also hosts of a wealth podcast on Instagram known as Green Table Talk. They are also proud parents to future "Boss Baby" Aiden Skywalker Timmons. In Part 2 We discuss how they met when they were both working at Club Marquee in Las Vegas. They talk about how when they first worked together it wasn't love at first sight because Tiffany was a “go getter” and worked a certain way and it didn't fit Shawns style. But later when Tiffany showed up on her day off, dressed to the nines she made an impact on Shawn. As he puts it, he and everyone else was like “Damn!” Since Tiffany had been drinking she needed someone to help her get home. Everyone at the club, women and men were trying to take her home but since Shawn was sincere, she only said Yes to him. Since Shawn was Woking she had to wait 2 hours for him to get off. Little did Tiffany realize Shawn had a motorcycle so they decided to take Tiffany's car and go eat and sober up. They spent 7 hours together connecting and learning they had similar experiences. And Shawn realized Tiffany had beauty and brains and substance. The more time they spent together they more they realized how much in common and how they could work together and they both had that “high school crush” feeling about each other. The even crazier part is they both were ending serious relationships at the exact time they met and both living with their exes at the time even though they were not romantically involved. They talk about how they moved forward slowly and maturely. And how they gave each other space and let their relationship happen naturally. They tell stories about hanging out at the park and having jam sessions together after they realized they both are musically talented. Tiffany raves about how Talented Shawn is and how he has a whole album recorded and he's just hesitant to release it. Isaac pushed Shawn to just release his music no matter what anyone thinks. Tiffany talks about how she always knew they would be in business together. We discuss their current family business Skywalker Comsulting. This is an awesome couple! Enjoy the show! In Part 1 we talk about their upbringing. Tiffany hails from Brooklyn's Canarsie projects, as she puts it “Brooklyn girls do it best.” Shawn is originally from the Caribbean by way of St. Vincent, the Grenadines and the Virgin Islands. We talk about how Shawn grew up around the Hall Of Fame NBA player Tim Duncan who played basketball with his uncle and ate at his grandmother's restaurant. Tiffany shares a story about visiting Shawn's family in the Caribbean for the 1st time and how she struggled to understand the Caribbean accent. Shawn talks about when his family immigrated to the US, to Alaska of all places. He explains how he struggled greatly at first with culture shock, because of his thick Caribbean accent and about how it made him self conscious as a 12 year old to speak and even forced him to stop speaking for a while until he could get rid of his accent.Tiffany talks about being in the “get out of the hood project” and always getting straight A's and being an overachiever because of her mother's strict high standards. She also shares a similar culture shock experience to Shawn's, when she left the Canarsie projects to an all white boarding school. Just like Shawn it was a completely new and very different environment, where she had to learn to quickly adapt. They talk about how these similar experiences allowed then to connect on a deeper level when they met.Shawn shares more culture shock experiences when he came to the U.S. such as “the sun being broken” because it stays up 22 hours a day and seeing snow for the first time. Also he remembers how different it was for him, being from a friendly welcoming culture to coming to a place where nobody talks to people they don't know. Tiffany talks about being from New York where you don't talk to anyone you don't know and walking super fast because she was trained in New York.Tiffany shares her experience of working extremely hard in school & earning a scholarship to go to an IVY League boarding High school in Massachusetts. And how this experience forced her to develop successful habits. She was on her own for the first time and had her own room for the 1st time in her life. After this private High School in cold and snowy Massachusetts Tiffany decided to head to Florida for college and nice weather. Shawn being a great athlete left Alaska to go to Arizona for college and warm weather.Tiffany talks about finding her calling as an educator and which kept her in Florida for 9 years until she realized her teaching career wasn't going to meet her needs financially. So, she followed the money and moved to Vegas to work in the Hospitality industry. Shawn talks about heading down the wrong path when he was young but having great friends around him who believed in him and his talents and motivated him to get into sports, pursue success using his talents and to get out of Alaska and go to a place he could thrive. So, he left Alaska for college in Arizona. After college he had a short career in the pharmaceutical industry but was bored and felt like he was wasting his talents so he moved to Las Vegas with no family, no friends, no job and started over from ground zero. He began getting into entertainment and started dancing in Vegas, he was so talented as a dancer Shawn was offered a scholarship to Juliart, however he suffered an injury during an altercation at his security job and had to turn down the scholarship. This is when he found the hospitality industry. He climbed up the ladder in this industry and ended up in the same career path as Tiffany. Tiffany shares her story of how she got into the night club industry and how she doesn't leave things to chance and was able to get in with persistency. Shawn and Tiffany tell stories about the Las Vegas party & night life. Working at the major hotels and clubs at their peak eras. And much more. This is a super talented power couple! It may be a party every night in Las Vegas, but making those parties happen is hard work for Jason Strauss, one of the Managing Partners of Tao Group Hospitality. Jason shares his journey from organizing a party for fellow high school seniors in New York to running one of the most successful hospitality companies in the country. Hosts: Jonathan Jossel, Lisa Melmed, Gary Vickery
Jason Strauss is a co-founder and co-owner of the Tao Group, the world-renowned luxury hospitality company best known for its restaurant/nightclub brands: Tao, Lavo, Marquee and Avenue. Strauss talks to Rich (they've been friends since high school) about launching a nightlife business with long-time business partner, Noah Tepperberg. In 2003, the duo launched Marquee, the Manhattan restaurant/nightclub famous for its endless stream of celebrities and world-class hospitality. The club's success became the subject of a 2009 Harvard Business School case study, and led the duo to expand to Las Vegas where they opened Tao at the Venetian hotel, one of the country's highest-grossing restaurants and nightclubs. In 2017, the Madison Square Garden Company acquired a majority stake in Tao Group. Strauss talks about staying relevant in a youth-driven industry, his bullish expectations for post-covid nightlife, and the MSG Sphere, his group's upcoming music and entertainment arena in Vegas, one he believes will set a new bar for the nightlife experience. Guest OverviewBorn to Peruvian father, and Chilean mother, but grew up to become a legend of New York nightlife, impresario co-founder of Studio 54, and to this day not only continues to reinvent herself but also entertainment experiences, is this week's guest Carmen D'Alessio. We recorded this interview in Carmen's apartment back in July 2019. With windows open the sounds of the Manhattan provide a suitable city soundscape. Like recent episodes this is a two parter Part one, Carmen recounts the story of the enduring influence of her mother, escaping her controlling father, her early years in 60's New York, meeting her first husband, and her magical wedding experience with Salvador Dali as her acting godfather. From a very young age, Lauren Kaminsky Goldman, also known as the GoldGirl, has been involved in multiple facets of the jewelry world. Her career has covered businesses ranging from blogger to curator to, most uniquely, pawnbroker.Lauren’s love for treasure hunting began at her grandfather’s pawn shops, where she would sift through trays of jewelry to find unique pieces and pretend to negotiate the best deals with the staff. Now, as a third-generation pawnbroker, Lauren has elevated to Chief Operating Officer and President of EZ Pawn Corp., overseeing 15 stores, and working alongside her father/CEO, David, and brother, Jason. She has worked hard to grow the business as well as to educate the public about pawnbroking in hopes of altering negative stereotypes from past generations.Outside of her day jobs, Lauren has spent years being active on the Board of Directors for the National Pawn Association. Lauren looks forward to expanding her brand to other corners of the jewelry world and to be a well-respected voice within the fine jewelry community for many years. [02:12] For a New York pawnshop to legally operate, there is a maximum interest rate of 4% per month, buys are held for 15 days after purchase and loans are held for 4 months with a 30 days grace period. [03:57] When Lauren studied business and entrepreneurship at Boston School of Management she decided to assist her father with his pawnshop for the summer. [09:01] The name GoldGirl originated when Lauren presented a kiosk business for her thesis in college, and the designer for the kiosk could not remember her name, so called her GoldGirl. [10:24] Beauty & Essex is a pawn inspired retail shop and restaurant with a vintage collection of jewelry and musical instruments. The started in Lower Manhattan and has expanded to LA and Las Vegas inside the Cosmopolitan Hotel. [13:56] What has using your personal brand on social media done for EZ Pawn Corp? Social media has allowed the business’ name to spread quickly. Persons are able to see a different side of the business that they can relate to right away. [15:05] In an industry dominated by men, how does it feel being a senior female in the business? The fact that it is a family business, I never felt out of place. However, having the respect and support of my father helped to motivate me being young and a female in the business. [18:15] In 2010, EZ Pawn had 5 stores and have grown that number to 15 in 8 years [18:55] The most difficult thing about growing your business is finding the right staff to holding the business together [19:10] “When you have a great framework, it can easily get knocked down by having the wrong people represent you.” [19:34] 3 things that EZ Pawn does that makes them successful are: Customer service The most high tech in pawn Availability [20:05] A demographic survey was done by EZ Pawn and it showed where 60% of their customers were between the age 18-31 years old. This therefore meant that the business had to find a way to connect with their audience [20:45] Working with TAO Group taught Lauren the concept of using hospitality to assist in the success of the pawn store [21:32] Customers like knowing that they: - can get through to a representative of the pawnshop - have the convenience of using an app and getting a response via email right away - are buying from a store that has brand recognition [22:45] You can utilize zipwho.com to get the demographics of persons living in different areas. [23:44] Lauren speaks about the importance of being a part of the community leading the change [26:51] Check out Lauren’s website at bygoldgirl.com and connect with her using the handle bygoldgirl on Instagram and all social media sites
