This one's for you. You'll learn:How to respond when you've already failed your New Year's resolutions or good intentions. The pastor shares openly about his own struggles to keep resolutions, emphasizing God's grace and the importance of community support. The meaning behind Jesus' parable of the sower and the seeds. Rather than bringing shame, Jesus offers the parable to say "I understand the struggles you face, but don't give up."Practical ideas for spiritual disciplines or a "rule of life" - daily habits and practices that can help nurture spiritual growth amidst life's busyness. Examples from the pastor's own rule as well as MLK's are shared. How a rule of life or spiritual disciplines can sustain justice and reconciliation work over the long haul, keeping the "soil" of one's heart receptive. MLK modeled this in the civil rights movement. That God never stops inviting us back and providing possibilities for new life and growth, no matter our failures or weariness. Community support empowers us.The big takeaway is learning to create life-giving daily rhythms and rely on God's grace to stay the course, especially when doing meaningful work for justice and wholeness.ReferencesScripture: Luke 8:4-15About The Local ChurchFor more information about The Local Church, visit our website. It is Thursday on the Rickey Smiley Morning Show Podcast and we have some news for you. Mike Pence at his Town Hall meeting last night, has made a line in the sand with his former boss, Donald Trump. He said anyone who puts themself over the Constitution, does not deserve to be president. In other news, Susan Lorincz, was arrested in Florida for killing a black mother, Ajike Owens through her front door in front of one of her children. Lorincz has been charged with manslaughter. Owens leaves behind four children. Wendy Williams' manager said that Wendy is in a wellness center trying to get better. The manager also said that the claims that her son made that Williams' team is taking advantage is not true. Zion Williamson is having a baby with former dancer Ahkeema. She has been posting about lavish shopping sprees and saying that she will be a stay at home mom. But adult entertainer Mariah Mills has been exposing Zion Williamson for saying that she is also dating the NBA star. Jeff Johnson joined The RSMS Crew to tell us Three Things We Need to Know. Johnson talked about the arrest of Susan Lorincz and the murder of Ajike Owens. The problem with this issue is that her children are blaming themselves for the act of a hateful person who took their toys and electronic devices. The family of Owens do not believe manslaughter is not enough and hope that the charge goes up to murder two. Please visit justiceforajowens.org to get justice for Owens and support her children. Erykah Badu joined The RSMS Crew. She talked about her new tour, The Unfollow Me Tour. Well they tried to get to talk about the tour but Erykah was getting on Rickey Smiley. Armadillo Garden Tools with Ron LaGro from Costa Rica If you love gardening, you'll find these unique works of art the premier tools, the most functional, and robust on the market. Each tool is hand-crafted by traditional Artisans throughout the historical 'Pueblos Magicas'  of Mexico. One of Ron's favorite pastimes while living in Central America was walking the riverbanks and beaches with his machete, in search of precious wood. He was like a hog in heaven, particularly after the big rains when everything was washed toward the sea. Ron acquired an eye for locating amazing pieces that seemed to whisper or scream … “Hey, over here, pick me up! Make me into a lamp, or a coffee table, a headboard, anything….just get me off this beach!” The initial concept for Armadillo Garden Tools took root in 2015, midway through a decade living in a small town on the west coast of Costa Rica. A haven for surfing and yoga fanatics. Central America is home to hundreds of species of gorgeous exotic woods. It's also a gardener's and landscaper's paradise. On April 3, 2023, we hosted a practical conversation about the steps that individuals and congregations can take to move the needle on gun violence. Shane Claiborne (Red Letter Christians) and Mike Martin (RAWtools) invited churches to become gun decommissioning sites in our cities. Pastor Amy Kasari (Antioch Church, Bend) shared her church's journey toward that distinction. On April 11, we continued this conversation. Mike Martin laid out the specific and very tangible steps toward becoming a gun decommissioning site. Pastor Amy offered more specifics and reflections on the formational journey she and her team have guided their congregation through in preparation for this work. And the moderator of the Presbyterian Peace Fellowship's Gun Prevention working group Jan Orr-Harter oriented us and offered an invitation to a five-week Guns to Garden Tools Action Circle.   Resources Mentioned: Guns to Gardens Action Circle: https://www.presbypeacefellowship.org/gun-violence/ RAWtools Disarming Network to find a Disarming Location near you. The reweaving of our relationships with each other and the earth depends in large part on our capacities to engage our imagination, call on inspiration, and create new ways forward. Mike Martin, co-founder and Executive Director of the non-profit organization RAWTools joins us for this conversation that includes healing from gun violence by transforming guns to garden tools, the necessity of learning how to resolve conflict without violence, and how community gardens are powerful spaces of healing trauma and cultivating belonging. About Mike Martin: Mike learned to blacksmith in order to turn guns into garden tools and is passionate about connecting people to nonviolent skills like restorative justice and conflict mediation. He is trained for restorative justice facilitation, dialogue circles, and encourages everyone to explore how they can connect to similar efforts in their community. Mike believes turning swords into plowshares requires a comprehensive approach to gun violence, one that addresses the triggers in our streets, and the triggers in our hearts. One of the challenges for people who like to garden is finding space to store their tools. Particularly long handled tools like rakes, hoes and shovels. Try this. Buy several threaded eye hooks and several “J “ hooks at the hardware store. Screw the eye hooks into the ends of the tool handles and screw the “J” hooks into the ceiling joists in your garage, basement or storage shed. Arrange the hooks so they are out of the way but accessible. And if you have lots of tools you can even hang up to three tools from each hook.

Join me in today's podcast where I'll be discussing a debate I have wanted to do for a while. Electric vs petrol garden tools. I also share the latest from my plots. In the diary section I have been tackling the following tasks. Weeding and watering24 hour livePurchase of a new chainsawMulching of soils and much more on the podcast. Petrol vs electric garden tools. For a while I have wanted to debate what was best between petrol or electric garden tool's. I have always preferred petrol tools for the fact that i could simply pull the tool out the shed and use where as electric required running a cable. I also always preferred petrol to have down the allotment too. On the allotment we have no electricity so a electric lawnmower would be useless. The draw back with petrol tools lately I have found myself spending longer longer trying to start my petrol tools in order to use them. In fact Sunday I got so annoyed at trying to get my petrol chainsaw to run that I gave up and bought a Ryobi one chainsaw and strimmer You can hear my reason why in this podcast.
