Today's guest on Power in Diversity is someone Dr. Omo has watched grow from strength to strength. Elaine Cunningham Walker is an award-winning educational strategist and founder of the Global Educational Consulting firm, who has also been featured in Forbes. As a mother of two highly gifted children, both of whom were endorsed by Manasa after appearing on Channel Four's Child Genius, Elaine has become a go-to consultant for parents seeking advice on how to bring out the best in their own children.   KEY TAKEAWAYS   Elaine finds that many children lack the emotional intelligence and resilience to deal with the personal struggles they face on the education path. However, she lives by the code “There is Genius in every child, it just needs nurtured and developed”.  Elaine has become an advocate for building the next generation of leaders, emphasising the importance of ensuring that people who look like her and her children are represented in top positions. She believes that the reason for the underrepresentation of certain groups at the top is due to a lack of access to the right schools, friends, and networks. Networking is all about leaving a lasting impression on people's minds. It's important to be memorable for the right reasons, and unfortunately, our community often fails to achieve this. As women, we often neglect investing in ourselves. We tend to invest in others but fail to invest in ourselves by seeking out mentors, coaches, or individuals who have already achieved success and can provide positive guidance or advice on what steps we need to take to reach our goals. When we are labelled as being angry, it is because we are trying to win the argument with emotion instead of facts. If we speak from a place of facts rather than emotion, people will perceive us differently, and we will not come across as angry.   BEST MOMENTS   ‘The statistics say that if you're a black single mother, your children must end up on a particular trajectory. And I didn't want that for my children' ‘You can do everything right, but if you don't know someone who knows somebody who knows somebody, those doors cannot be open for you' ‘Pitch yourself as somebody that they need to know' ‘A journey of a thousand miles begins with one step'   EPISODE RESOURCES    Elaine on LinkedIn Elaine Cunningham-Walker Elaine C Walker BSc, MSc (@elainecwalker) / Twitter Elaine C Walker|Mentor|Speaker|Female Founder (@elainecwalker) • Instagram photos and videos   ABOUT THE GUEST    Elaine Cunningham Walker is an award-winning educational strategist and founder of the Global Educational Consulting firm, who has been featured in Forbes. As a mother of two highly gifted children, both of whom were endorsed by Manasa after appearing on Channel Four's Child Genius series in 2015, Elaine has become a go-to consultant for parents seeking advice on how to bring out the best in their own children. Her personal experience in raising her children, and securing their admission with music and drama scholarships to top boarding schools, including St. Paul's, Eton and Harrow, has made her a specialist in bespoke educational roadmaps, tuition, and strategies to help children achieve similar success.   PODCAST DESCRIPTION   Power in Diversity Podcast is a space where professional women from diverse backgrounds, eager to grow as leaders, come to be inspired and gain wisdom from other leaders. As my guests share their journey, I hope that it will give you; an aspiring or established female leader; meaning to your journey, illuminating your path and equipping you with a greater understanding of how to carve and navigate your success pathway with greater ease.  Power in Diversity Podcast is also designed to equip not only individuals but, crucially, organisations who must learn to create diverse and inclusive organisations practically and not merely as a tick box exercise; especially now in this ever-changing world, everyone's diverse insight is vital to solving world issues. I hope that this podcast allows organisations to appreciate the real barriers female and ethnic minority groups face in stepping into leadership, barriers sadly I and many others have faced, and many continue to face.  I'm proud to be British and proud of my African Heritage, my tribe, part of the Benin Empire. I feel blessed to be a woman. This is a non-judgmental space, but a space to learn and to become aware of the gifts and Power in Diversity.   ABOUT THE HOST   Dr Omo Akoje Okonkwo is a practising Cosmetic Dental Surgeon working in Private Clinics in Surrey. Her passion for empowering her patients and team led her to Transformational coaching to bring about significant change in others.  Her many skill sets and ability to motivate people quickly opened leadership roles for her, including Director of Health care Projects and Clinical Lead and Senior Tutor at the prestigious King College Dental Hospital. Along her journey, she faced numerous setbacks despite her passion, academic background and experience.  Notwithstanding, her passion for excellence and growth led her to embark on an MBA at the Renowned Warwick Business School. Her desire to empower women steered her to conduct qualitative research exploring Gender, Leadership, and Identity. Her findings revealed what she had always sensed, the leadership labyrinth for female and ethnic minority leaders that exists. It is now Dr Omo's mission to educate and equip individuals, organisations, and countries on the necessity, mindset, and steps to create inclusion at all levels of society.   CONTACT METHOD    IG: https://www.instagram.com/dr.omo_uk/ LinkedIn:  https://www.linkedin.com/in/dr-omo-okonkwo-65b8a542/ Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/omo.okonkwo  This show was brought to you by Progressive Media

But it is not only special because of the physical abstention of food. No. Ramadan is special to Muslims worldwide as it is during this month that the gates of God's Grace and Mercy are wide open, our Lord metaphorically descends down to be near us and we are given the opportunity to attain proximity to our Creator. This is why during the month of Ramadan we spend our nights praying and giving thanks to Allah and our days in spiritual reflection and working towards self-improvement. It is a very spiritual and holy month. Child Genius: We hear about them on the news, child prodigies who have accomplished high academic success. So, what does it take to unlock such intelligence? In this episode we're talking to Dr Alan D. Thompson about intuition and giftedness. We ask what is intuition? We talk about intuition in science, the research behind intuition, imaginary friends, intuition in very high IQ children, how to foster intuition and imagination in our kids, why it's so important and more… Hit play and let's get started! Memorable Quote “Well, if we look at intuition as this innate process - everyone's got it. It gives people the ability to know things without analytic reasoning. Let's call it the opposite of science - it's knowing without knowing how we know. I think it scares people. It maps to somewhere that we're not comfortable going.” – Dr Alan D. Thompson “I think one of the triggers for me writing this was noticing how many of my high ability clients from seven, eight years old had imaginary friends. And I thought that was fascinating… We've got the research that 34% of high ability or gifted girls have imaginary friends a little bit less for high ability or gifted boys.” – Dr Alan D. Thompson “That can be as simple as lying in bed and talking about dreams in the morning. So, what dream did you have? What dream did the child have? Not with any sense of needing to interpret it, but what is flowing through the subconscious at night?” – Dr Alan D. Thompson Resources Connected – Intuition & Resonance in Smart People by Dr Alan D. Chloe is an engaging speaking and takes part in pageants and talent shows in her spare time. Her work ethic and positive attitude are typical of the many migrants who succeed in the UK despite starting with no money, no contacts and none of the advantages of native-born Britons. Looking Back On My Wonder Years: A Wonder Years Podcast

Hey Everyone, Angela Bowen here, the host of She's A Small Wonder: A Small Wonder Podcast. Today, I covered S1E11: Child Genius, which aired on November 16, 1985. In this episode Ms. Fernwald of Child Services forces the Lawsons to hire a tutor for Vicky. But when the tutor gets too excited about Vicky's super memory, Ted gets worried and comes up with an idea for a replacement teacher. Also in this episode we get a creepy semi-pervy looking/acting child tutor brought in by Ms. Fernwald and the state. This guy is so enthralled at the idea of being the one to make the discovery of the next child genius and possibly winning the Nobel Peace Prize for this discovery that Ted and Joan should really be concerned. I mean, I wouldn't put it passed him to attempt to kidnap her. Jamie's busy pumping up and pumping iron with a barbell that probably weighs 100 lbs for football season showing off his precious guns (biceps) to Vicki, who is not impressed, as she looks down as he flexes and is like "where are they, I don't see nothing". Ted and Joan tell Ms. Fernwald the reason Vicki's not in school yet, is she hasn't been feeling well because she's got the mumps/measles or a combination of the two, they haven't decided which. Yet to Ms. Fernwald and the Lawsons surprise Vicki comes into the living room twirling a 100 lb barbell like it's a baton in a marching band. Ted says it's a fake and proceeds to take it from Vicki and as he does so it sinks to the floor, basically putting his back in traction. Maybe he can program Vicki to be a masseuse. While Joan tries to distract a confusing Ms. Fernwald she smacks Ted's ass while he is bent over, his hands still attached to the barbell on the floor. Why does she smack his ass and pat his back? I wish I knew, unless Marla (Joan Lawson)was ad libbing during the scene. Either way it's hella awkward to do in front of a state social worker. Ted suggests Joan go back and finish up her teaching course to earn her degree that she that she started 10 years ago after she and Ted got married in college and she dropped out because she was pregnant with Jamie. That way with a teaching degree she can tutor Vicki at home. So I assume this is how Joan ends up being Jamie's teacher later on in the show and integrates Vicki in to the public school system by becoming her teacher so she can keep an eye on her. Overall it was a cute and funny episode, happily Brindle free, sadly I can't say that about next month's episode in S1E12: Ted's New Boss, which aired on November 23, 1985. In this episode Ted loses a promotion to Brandon Brindle, but the worst is yet to come. It sure as as the Bridles move in with the Lawsons (temporarily) after a house fire (most likely their fault, no doubt). Trust me when I say there will be plenty of yelling and hair pulling (my own) as I go through this episode in October. Today Dr. Dan Peters welcomes expert Lisa Van Gemert the founder of Gifted Guru to discuss the important topic of Perfectionism. Both Dr. Dan and Lisa are recovering Perfectionists and today they define the condition (“unreasonable expectations with a lack of self-love”) and then teach us how to push through mistakes and discover a path to recovery based on managing perfectionism. The episodes opens with Lisa sharing a very personal story of her own struggle with perfectionism and how she organically came to this life-changing work. Lisa’s new book, Perfectionism: Practical Strategies for Managing Never Good Enough, is the foundation for today’s important discussion about signs to look for in our children and students and how to manage perfectionism with several strategies. Listeners will love Lisa’s Parent Footprint moment story at the end of the interview about her youngest son imitating her one day at home. This innocent playing led Lisa to an epiphany because she heard herself sounding like a teacher (which she was at the time) and not a parent. This life lesson shows us we sometimes don’t know how we sound to others – especially our children. More on Lisa Van Gemert: Lisa uses a combination of neuropsychology, pedagogy, experience, humor, technology, and sheer fun to share best practices in education with audiences around the world. She is an expert consultant to television shows including Lifetime’s "Child Genius," and a writer of award-winning lesson plans, as well numerous published articles on social psychology and pedagogy. A former teacher, school administrator, and Youth & Education Ambassador for Mensa, she shares resources for educators and parents on her website giftedguru.com and is co-founder of the Gifted Guild, a professional community for educators of the gifted. For spelling fans, #BeeWeek is the most wonderful time of the year. The Scripps National Spelling Bee is the yearly pinnacle of linguistic competition, and this podcast is your home for all the excitement. On today’s program, we’ll cut right to the chase and feature two of the top spellers in this year’s competition. First up, Vanya Shivashankar, younger sister of 2009 Champion Kavya and winner of the Lifetime game show “Child Genius.” This year, Vanya is relishing her fifth and final trip to the Bee, posing for pictures and interviews, and competing in the semifinals as Speller #90. Also on today’s show, we’ll hear from a young man who finished agonizingly close to the summit in 2014. Gokul Venkatachalam opened a lot of eyes last year by finishing as first runner-up behind co-champions Ansun Sujoe and Sriram Hathwar. In his final year of Bee competition, Gokul slam-dunked the written vocabulary test, earning a perfect score on his way to the semis as Speller #140. The Scripps National Spelling Bee podcast is your home for features and fun on the Scripps National Spelling Bee. We’ll be live-tweeting all week using the hashtag #BeeWeek. This is an uneditted version of an interview which happened spontaneously with Akiane Kramarik and Dr. Carol Francis.  The editted version is available in several forms--on BlogTalkRadio.com/dr-carol-francis  or at http://www.blogtalkradio.com/dr-carol-francis/2012/07/20/akiane-magical-paintings-child-prodigy-spiritual-wonders or on YouTube with beautiful paintings from Akiane at YouTube.com/drcarolfrancis,    Thanks for joining us.  This is an amazing interview and the editted version only omits those portions of the program not relevant to knowing more about Akiane.     Cheers
