Why do some people experience same-sex attraction—and how should faithful Christians respond? In this episode of the Dr. J Show, clinical sexologist Floyd Godfrey draws on decades of experience counseling clients who experience same-sex attraction and want to live lives of chastity and integrity.   Dr. Godfrey discusses how trauma, emotional wounds, and unmet developmental needs can shape sexual desires. He explains the difference between a person's feelings and their identity, and how healing involves both psychological insight and spiritual maturity. Rather than pushing an agenda, he walks us through how real change happens—with honesty, accountability, and deep human connection.   This conversation pushes back on the cultural narrative that says "once gay, always gay," and raises serious questions about efforts to ban talk therapy for those who seek it. If you're a parent, pastor, counselor, or simply someone concerned about the truth and the well-being of others, you won't want to miss this important episode.   Subscribe to our newsletter to get this amazing report: Refuting the Top 5 Gay Myths https://ruthinstitute.org/refute-the-top-five-myths/   Have a question or a comment? He holds advanced degrees from Arizona State University, Ottawa University, and the International Institute for Clinical Sexology. Dr. Godfrey specializes in working with men and adolescents navigating issues related to same-sex attraction, sexual addiction, and identity development.   He previously led a national faith-based ministry for men seeking sexual integrity, and has trained therapists, clergy, and parents in offering compassionate and ethical care. Known for integrating scientific understanding with a Christian worldview, Dr. Godfrey also works as a mental health consultant and educator. He brings both clinical depth and pastoral sensitivity to one of the most complex topics in our culture today.   Watch the full episode, uncensored, on Rumble: https://rumble.com/user/Theruthinstitute   Subscribe to our YouTube playlist:  @RuthInstitute  Follow us on Social Media: https://www.instagram.com/theruthinstitute https://twitter.com/RuthInstitute https://www.facebook.com/TheRuthInstitute/ https://theruthinstitute.locals.com/newsfeed   Press: NC Register: https://www.ncregister.com/author/jennifer-roback-morse Catholic Answers: https://www.catholic.com/profile/jennifer-roback-morse The Stream: https://stream.org/author/jennifer-roback-morse/ Crisis Magazine: https://crisismagazine.com/author/jennifer-roeback-morse   Father Sullins' Reports on Clergy Sexual Abuse: https://ruthinstitute.org/resource-centers/father-sullins-research/   Buy Dr. Morse's Books: The Sexual State: https://ruthinstitute.org/product/the-sexual-state-2/ Love and Economics: https://ruthinstitute.org/product/love-and-economics-it-takes-a-family-to-raise-a-village/ Smart Sex: https://ruthinstitute.org/product/smart-sex-finding-life-long-love-in-a-hook-up-world/ 101 Tips for a Happier Marriage: https://ruthinstitute.org/product/101-tips-for-a-happier-marriage/ 101 Tips for Marrying the Right Person: https://ruthinstitute.org/product/101-tips-for-marrying-the-right-person/   Listen to our podcast: Apple Podcasts - https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/the-ruth-institute-podcast/id309797947 Spotify - https://open.spotify.com/show/1t7mWLRHjrCqNjsbH7zXv1   Subscribe to our newsletter to get this amazing report: Refuting the Top 5 Gay Myths https://ruthinstitute.org/refute-the-top-five-myths/   Get the full interview by joining us for exclusive, uncensored content on Locals: https://theruthinstitute.locals.com/support

Understanding the Complexities of Sex Addiction | Floyd Godfrey on the Dr. J Show Ep 284

One of the most persistent myths promoted by LGBT advocates is that sexual orientation is fixed and cannot change. Research and clinical experience suggest otherwise.   In this episode of The Dr. J Show, Dr. Jennifer Roback Morse interviews Dr. Floyd Godfrey, a clinical sexologist and Christian counselor with decades of experience helping individuals overcome pornography addiction, unwanted same-sex attraction, and sexualized attachments. Dr. Godfrey explains how many of these issues stem from emotional wounds and disrupted attachment patterns—conditions that are treatable through compassionate, evidence-based therapy.   The discussion explores the concept of sex addiction as an intimacy attachment disorder, the development of the arousal template, and the role that trauma and early relational dynamics play in shaping sexual behaviors. It also contrasts mainstream therapeutic approaches with those rooted in a biblical worldview, showing that faith and science are not at odds when it comes to human sexuality.   Dr. Floyd Godfrey is a seasoned Mental Health Consultant, Speaker, and Educator with over two decades of clinical experience. He offers consulting services to individuals, families, and professionals, addressing complex issues related to mental health and human sexuality. Dr. Godfrey holds credentials as a Clinical Sexologist, Certified Sex Addiction Specialist Supervisor, Certified Christian Counselor, and Certified Mental Health Coach. His educational background includes degrees from Arizona State University, Ottawa University, and the International Institute for Clinical Sexology. Early in his career, he worked at Tempe Social Services with children and facilitated after-school programming, which deepened his understanding of family dynamics and child development. Building on this experience, Dr. Godfrey dedicated over 20 years to developing comprehensive sexual addiction programming for various populations, including adults, couples, young adults, and adolescents. His approach integrates a biblical worldview, blending academic rigor with practical expertise to create impactful interventions for mental health and human sexuality concerns.   Subscribe to our newsletter to get this amazing report: Refuting the Top 5 Gay Myths https://ruthinstitute.org/refute-the-top-five-myths/   Have a question or a comment? Send us a textIn this episode of the Be Disciples podcast, Kyle Morris and Dakota Smith discuss worldviews and the unique opportunity they have to teach at Ottawa University. They delve into the importance of understanding world religions and how to engage in meaningful conversations about faith. The discussion covers the seven critical questions that shape worldviews, the challenges posed by postmodernism, and the nature of God as prime reality. The hosts emphasize the need for consistency in belief systems and the importance of critical thinking in a postmodern society. In this conversation, they dig into the relationship between faith and science, emphasizing the importance of recognizing a creator in the universe. The discussion covers the significance of critical thinking and the purpose of life, particularly in the context of engaging with students and their worldviews. The conversation highlights the dangers of subjective reality and the necessity of a healthy belief system, ultimately pointing to the uniqueness of the Gospel and the authority of Jesus in shaping relationships and understanding life.Takeaways:Teaching world religions helps in understanding diverse beliefs.Consistency is key in a solid belief system.Everyone has biases that should be tested.Engaging in respectful dialogue is crucial in discussions.Postmodernism lacks a coherent definition.God's holiness means He is dedicated to His character. The nature of God is essential to understanding reality.Science should be seen as a discovery of God's creation.Belief systems must be coherent and consistent. Exploring the universe should deepen our awe of God.Science relies on logic, which presupposes a creator.Engaging with different worldviews can be enlightening.Emotions should not define our understanding of humanity.Redefining reality based on feelings is dangerous. The authority of Jesus is paramount in relationships.#spirituality, #worldreligions, #postmodernism, #worldview, #faith, #science,  #critical thinking, #purpose of life, #emotions, #logic, #beliefsystems, #gospel

Welcome to the Financial Freedom & Wealth Trailblazers Podcast! In this episode, we'll share insights, tips, and actionable steps to shift your mindset and create a healthier relationship with money. Jeannie Dougherty graduated with a Master's degree in Counseling from Ottawa University and began her career as a mental health and substance abuse counselor for individuals, couples, and families. Over time, she found that more and more clients came to her with money issues, ranging from debt to starting over after being financially devastated by a partner. Things seemed to be picking up for Jeannie until both her parents were diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease. As someone who lost both parents to Alzheimer's during a time when most people focus on their careers and raising their families, her life was suddenly put on hold to ensure her parents were cared for. When she finally lost them, it hit her that she was on her own. She understands the loneliness of having to pull yourself together while others seem to move forward faster. Those experiences, however, prepared Jeannie for her next stage in life: creating retirement readiness and caregiving programs for federal government employees. An unexpected turn came when she attended a dance class and found a flier for a 4-day seminar on dance and money. That seminar felt like a lightbulb moment, inspiring her to become an emotional behavioral money coach, also known as a Money Whisperer. This new pathway led Jeannie to graduate from the prestigious And Money Coaching Institute as a Certified Money Coach (CMC)®️, where she began working with individuals, couples, and small business owners. She also became a Positive Intelligence, or Mental Fitness, coach to continue sharpening her coaching skills. Following the events of January 6th, Jeannie unexpectedly tapped into a lesser-known part of her consulting skillset: helping corporations and governments recover from manmade or natural catastrophes. Whether someone is grieving the loss of a loved one, facing an upheaval in their career, or navigating the end of a relationship, Jeannie helps clients process and move through their challenges in a way that leaves them healthier, happier, and more financially well-off than before. Rest in peace, Jed. Jed Marshall's obituary: John David Marshall (Jed), 40, of Overland Park, KS, passed away overnight on September 26, 2023. Jed was born in New Jersey, but his family moved to Overland Park when he was 2 months old and he spent most of his life there. He was deeply committed to the friends he met in childhood and remained close to the Hadley gang for his entire life.  Jed graduated from Blue Valley North High School and went on to the University of Kansas. Although he earned his degree in communications from Ottawa University, he was a devoted Jayhawks fan his entire life and probably could list the starting lineups for any KU basketball team in any given year.  Also a lifelong follower of Michigan football, Jed was passionate about all sports and was proud to make that his career. He is especially remembered by his co-workers and listeners of 810 WHB Sports Radio for his funny personality, expansive knowledge of sports statistics, and his insightful (and sarcastic) commentary. In addition to sports, Jed was a big fan of music, as well as quirky TV shows that matched his dry sense of humor. There was no event that he couldn't compare to an episode of “The Simpsons” or “It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia.” Music was a strong emotional outlet for him; he loved the Beatles, Phish, and numerous others. He traveled several times to see Phish in concert, most recently with his wife, Kathleen, for his 40th birthday.  Jed was always a hugger who felt things very deeply. He loved his family very much and told them often over the years. He especially adored his mom and dad and loved spending time with them -- playing cards, hanging out on the back porch near the pool, or just talking. He was so proud of his role as the funny uncle to his young nieces and nephews, and he cherished his cats Marley and Dopey. The best thing that ever happened to him was marrying Kathleen on December 23, 2022.  Jed is survived by his two sisters: Betsy (Eric) Roadman and Katie (Andy) Betts; six nieces and nephews: Drew, John and Grace Roadman, and AJ, Paige and Patrick Betts; plus a large extended family that included loving aunts, uncles, cousins, and lifelong friends who were also considered family. He is preceded in death by his parents, David and Diane Marshall, and his wife, Kathleen Ingraham Marshall. See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

— “People sometimes think back to bad situations and memories as learning experiences. They may come to realize they were actually strong for their age; or that they did everything they could. They learn that it's OK to show their emotions – even with people they allowed to bully or hurt them in the past. They become strong protectors; not allowing similar hurts to occur again. They heal by seeing their problems for what they really are, then letting them go. They come to find out they can be safe. They come to find out they are honorable and lovable – OK just as they are. They can accept themselves. They can come to realize they have choices. They learn to have hope. These are a few of the potential miracles that can occur when effective counseling takes place.” Valeria interviews Dr. Jason Buck — He is a Licensed Professional Counselor and Founder Of Desert Eagle Counseling Services. Jason started having anxiety problems when he was an adolescent. Today we will be kicking this focus off with an article by The Harvard Review, “Anyone Can Learn To Be A Better Leader” where we will breakdown new age, practical leadership skills and situations. Then we will close out with “8 Ways To Become A Better Leader” by Ottawa University. Leaderships is not just for the professional world, you can lead your family, friends, church, siblings, and most importantly, yourself. Leadership is power and it requires constant improvement and responsibility. Influencers are a real thing (as you know we talk about this on T&T all the time), so let's work to understand our own influence (the responsibility part) in this world and how we can level up to better inspire those around us. Young or old, big or small, whatever the case may be, you lead at some point in the day whether you know it or not- let's get conscious and make positive change… personally and professionally.   Highlights: Leadership. Personal responsibility. Leveling up. New age leadership and taking on a human based approached. Collaboration over coercion. Humans over machines. Listening, feeling, and believing. Team building, buying in, and enjoying the process. Becoming a better leader, becoming a better person. . . . Kristen M. Olson Creative. Coach. Leader. Athlete. Entrepreneur. Podcaster. Pup Mom.
