Carol Costello is one the most authentic and trusted journalists in the modern era. Watching her conduct an interview is like a masterclass in how it should be done. Her warm and inviting presence always made her guests comfortable and willing, to tell the truth - no matter how difficult or sensitive the topic happens to be. I swear, she is either Wonder Woman in disguise or was gifted her very own "Lasso of Truth" by her. She's that good at getting real, truthful answers from whomever she might be interviewing. I've been a huge fan of Carol's for as long as I remember, and I still can't believe she said yes to come onto the show. She tells it like it is, and honestly, in a way we all need to hear it. Gosh, how I miss seeing her on television every day. But she's creating even bigger RIpples today. Helping the next generation of journalists learn to think for themselves, question everything and pursue the facts, not simply strive for the likes, the views, or the notoriety. Why? Because journalists should never be part of the story. The good ones know how to tell it so that we understand and, hopefully, learn from it. To that end, I am grateful to know people like Carol are out there shaping the hearts and minds of our future journalists. Carol's Bio: Carol Costello is an award-winning journalist and former anchor and correspondent at CNN and HLN. Her distinguished career as a local, regional, and national broadcaster spans three decades, covering a broad range of world leaders, events, and politics. Carol serves as Special Advisor and Ambassador at LMU and teaches a broadcast journalism course in LMU's journalism program. She also hosts “Carol Costello Presents: Blind Rage,” a true-crime serial podcast and “I Hate Your Generation,” a podcast series exploring the generational divide. In 2019, Carol created Project Citizen, a special program at LMU that provides resources and mentorship for student journalists. Project Citizen's core mission is to discover ways to ease the partisan divide in our country. Carol also serves on the journalism professional advisory board at Kent State University in Ohio and is a mentor to its journalism students. In 2001, Carol joined CNN as an anchor on “Headline News.” From 2002 to 2009, she anchored “Daybreak,” the network's former early morning news program. And from 2012 to 2018 she anchored “Newsroom.” She also sub- anchored and was a political reporter for “The Situation Room.” Carol contributed to CNN.com Opinion from 2015-2017. In 2018, she hosted HLN's Across America with Carol Costello. At CNN, Carol was at the forefront of some of the world's most significant stories. She was part of CNN's Peabody Award-winning coverage of the Gulf Oil Spill, Hurricane Katrina, and the 2008 presidential election. She also reported on Pope Francis' visit to the United States, the Boston Marathon bombing, the last space shuttle launch, the Ohio midterm elections, the shooting at Virginia Tech, the tsunami disaster in South Asia, the Russian school hostage crisis, and Hurricanes Charley, Frances, Ivan, and Jeanne. Carol interviewed four former U.S. presidents: President Jimmy Carter, President Ronald Reagan, President George H.W. Bush, and President Bill Clinton; and she covered five presidential inaugurations as well as the 1992, 2008, 2012 and 2016 presidential elections. Before joining CNN, Carol worked at WJLA-TV in Washington, D.C., where she was an anchor and investigative reporter for five years. Prior to that, she spent three years at WBAL-TV in Baltimore. She began her career as a weekend anchor and reporter for WAKR-TV in Akron, Ohio, then moved to WBNS-TV in Columbus, Ohio, to serve as the station's principal weeknight anchor. Costello earned a degree in journalism from Kent State University in Ohio. Carol's reporting has been honored numerous times, including a 1991 Emmy Award for a special on crack and cocaine, a UPI award, and several Associated Press awards. She received an Emmy nomination in 1993, then again in 2008 for outstanding coverage of a breaking news story after Benazir Bhutto's assassination. In 2009, she received an individual Emmy nomination for Outstanding Morning Program. Carol has been interviewed by the New York Times, Washington Post, LA Times, Chicago Tribune, Associated Press, Baltimore Sun, Baltimore Magazine, Columbus Monthly, Akron Beacon Journal, and the Canton Repository.
“Part of what has led the movement against fossil fuels is the increased number of people being confronted with the effects of oil drilling and fracking,” argues energy analyst and investigative journalist Antonia Juhasz. The Senior Researcher in the Environment and Human Rights Division at Human Rights Watch talks about how our dependency on fossil fuels impacts the environment, politics, social justice and human rights worldwide. What can be done to bring about a just transition to renewable energy more quickly? Juhasz regularly writes for outlets such as The New York Times, The Guardian and National Geographic, and is the author of Black Tide: the Devastating Impact of the Gulf Oil Spill (2011), among others.

I think it's the most simple advice and it's really important to say yeah but who is going to pay for it? And why would they pay? …I think first of all does the world need it? I think that's a question you need to ask. Is this a nice to have or a need to have?... I think the does the world need this question is a really important one. You could argue with a gamer for example does the world need a game? No but the next question is, does the world won't this and want it enough to pay for it in a monetizable sustainable scalable way? And I think that's the second question you have got to answer… You really need to answer the first and you absolutely must answer the second ”…[Listen for More] Click Here for Show Notes To Listen or to Get the Show Notes go to https://wp.me/p6Tf4b-7Ev

All life on Earth is threatened by catastrophic climate change--the main culprit is so powerful that the U.S. government is setup to serve it, rather than regulate it. The oil industry is a powerhouse with control over land, resources, politics and more. In this episode of The Empire Files, Abby Martin uncovers big oil's strong-arm reach--its growth, its crimes, its power and its impunity. Featuring interviews with two investigative journalists who have covered oil disasters on-the-ground--Antonia Juhasz, author of "Black Tide: The Devastating Impact of the Gulf Oil Spill", and Greg Palast, author of "Vulture's Picnic: In Pursuit of Petroleum Pig, Power Pirates, and High-Finance Carnivores." Energy is the lifeblood of the economy. Where it we get it from matters, though. With several oil and gas folks set to take top posts in the new administration, it's important to talk with one of the top people who was a liaison between BP and the clean up, from a scientific side: Rita Colwell, Ph.D, with too many top scientific roles to list. One of the first calls after the catastrophic BP Oil Spill blanketed the previously-pristine Gulf of Mexico on April 20, 20110 came in to Dr. Rita Colwell, renowned microbiologist and oceanographer, former head of the National Science, and now a leader at the University of Maryland. She was tasked with building the10-year BP-funded, independent initiative to study the spill’s impact, and no one was better suited. In this enlightening interview with Green Connections Host Joan Michelson, Dr. Colwell explains: how independent the Gulf of Mexico Research Initiative really is, the uniqueness of their business model, and what their extensive research by diverse teams of scientists is teaching us about: how to clean up the spill, the impact on marine ecosystem and marine life, and other discoveries that are enhancing our understanding and management of marine life and/or climate change-related environmental consequences. She also offers terrific career advice from her own experience – as a mentor, a mentee and a leader always pushing the boundaries of innovation via science. Read my Hufington Post blog on this here, which includes the trailer of the new documentary about their work, ”Dispatches from the Gulf,” just released on the sixth anniversary of the spill. The Paris Accord to reduce global greenhouse gas emissions is ambitious and the U.S. has agreed to reduce it’s emissions by 26 to 28 % below 2005 levels by 2025. How do we do it? With breakthrough energy innovations! Leading the charge in these breakthroughs is ARPA-E, the innovation arm of the U.S. Department of Energy and it’s led by Dr. Ellen Williams, who was Chief Scientist at BP during the Gulf Oil Spill. But don’t let that fool you…She’s 100 percent committed to clean energy and has been a long time professor at University of Maryland. Listen to GCR host Joan Michelson's fascinating interview with Dr. Williams about: Trends in energy breakthroughs – and what we need. Where the investments are going these days – a wind drone?! Important elements to drive breakthrough innovation What it was like being Chief Scientist at BP during the Gulf Oil Spill Recommendations for building a career in this industry You’ll want to take notes! P.S. The audio on this is a bit wobbly it turns out, which is below our usual standards…sometimes technology does not cooperate as intended! Fortunately, Dr. Williams sounds much than your loyal host. Thanks for understanding. Thank you for subscribing on iTunes and iHeartRadio and for leaving us a review/rating. A Meditation for the Gulf Oil Spill - Connecting Consciousness The meditation was given through me by Shesat, who is the female companion of Thoth. He was also present, and shared some important observations. One was that because of the attention humanity is now giving to the water, fish and environment in the Gulf, a connecting doorway has opened between our consciousness and the consciousness of these other beings. Thoth weaves his information in between the meditations that Shesat gives. This lasts for about 50 minutes, and then there is a time of Q & A which draws out some additional information. Some of this may be time-sensitive, so I did not edit the meditation. Below is the original channeling from Thoth seemingly predicting the Gulf Oil Spill. It comes from my Phone Meditation/podcast "Easing, not Heaving into Transition",Oct 14, 2008. The transcription was published by Sedona Journal of Emergence December 2008. “...a crisis around energy and land is apt to move onto the world's stage. The energy of this episode is likely to take the form of a major natural disaster involving oil drilling in the ocean. It will be in a location and of a size that significantly impacts the food supply for millions of people. “This episode will force you to examine how you extract oil from within the Earth.
