Jason Heller de The A.V. Por su parte, The Mediator Between Head and Hands Must Be the Heart tuvo una mejor recepción crítica. Seven where we learn where the art of Rhetoric came from and what it taught. We are presented with the Seven Liberal Arts and Sciences in Freemasonry, but nobody tells us why. The art of persuasion seems to have been with us for thousands of years. When were the Trivium and Quadrivium in their present form developed? Why is this important to us Masons and should we study it all? Peace Revolution Ep. #12 - The History of Money - 36 min. 30 sec Peace Revolution Ep. #33 is a lecture given by Manly P. In this episode, Mario speaks with Lars Hamkens and Jamie Pridham of Toronto-based Quadrivium Capital Partners. Quadrivium, an investment firm that works with executives and serial entrepreneurs in lower midmarket acquisitions, currently has a portfolio of 11 successful companies funded by groups of individual investors and generally held for the long term. The typical Quadrivium deal begins with an introduction to an entrepreneurial business operator for whom an appropriate opportunity is identified, often a situation with an exiting owner-operator. Looking ahead, Jamie and Lars are of the view that the lower midmarket is significantly insulated from macroeconomic forces and should continue to reward those who are willing to take the risks of entrepreneurship.

Trinity Evangel Church
3. Advent Activities: Singing

Music is one of the seven great lights in the medieval model of education. It's part of the Quadrivium, along with Geometry, Arithmetic, and Astronomy. The common denominator of all four is numbers. Arithmetic is the study of numbers proper, geometry is numbers in space, astronomy is numbers in space and motion. Music is numbers in *time*, numbers in proportion and intervals. > “[M]usic advances even further towards that ‘summit of perfection' for which the quadrivium is a prerequisite. The theory of music is a penetration of the very heart of Providence's ordering of things. It is not a matter of cheerful entertainment or superficial consolation for sad moods, but a central clue to the interpretation of the hidden harmony of God and nature in which the only discordant element is evil in the heart of man.” (Henry Chadwick)Rhetoric is the pinnacle of the Trivium, Music is the crown of the Quadrivium, and in some ways, Music is the high point of Rhetoric, or at least a glorious expression of truth and goodness in beauty. A song is time *adorned*, and a song sung together is adorned time *shared*. Christmas is a celebration of God adorning humanity by taking on flesh. The eternal God now shares time with us. What better way to honor the Son's birth than singing?! In our series of Advent Activities we started with Waiting. Since then we've successfully waited two additional weeks, closer to Christmas and to the Second Coming. Last week we considered Feasting, and I am bursting after multiple opportunities just this past week. Now we come to Singing. Unlike waiting, I've addressed singing multiple times, whether related to our liturgy or just while teaching through some psalms. Also unlike waiting, which is more a question of How? instead of If? since the time will pass regardless, feasting can be consciously rejected (and is by some). Singing can be good or bad or rejected. Unlike feasting, singing can be outsourced; we can depend on/hire surrogate singers. While there are certainly times to enjoy the skill of a soloist or performing group, we shouldn't choose to only be an audience and never a choir. Whether or not your noise is skillful, even tuneful, it ought to be joyful. And the coming of the Son of God in flesh, once already and again anticipated, should stir the soul up to sing. A Queen once said, "a stable once had something inside it that was bigger than our whole world." Are we just supposed to hum about that?Though singing is not the command in Colossians 3:16, it is an inevitable and edifying result of obedience. We Bible people will be known to the degree our lives together are lyrical.> Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, teaching and admonishing one another in all wisdom, singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, with thankfulness in your hearts to God. (Colossians 3:16)The word should be "in-dwelling." It's supposed to dwell **richly**, abundantly, in full-measure. We could say, let the Word live like it's completely at home in us. It belongs in us. One thing that stands out is that it is identified as **the word of Christ**. Christ Himself *is* the Logos, the Word, who took on flesh and dwelt among us. So we're to let the Word of the Word dwell in us. This is only the second time this label is given to Scripture (see also Romans 10:17), and it seems that Paul was going out of his way to help the Colossians see the preeminence of Christ. Christ is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of creation, not in time, but in rights and privileges (Colossians 1:15). By Christ and through Christ were all things created and so all glory to Christ (Colossians 1:16). Christ is the head of the church, the firstborn from the dead, both chronologically and eschatologically (Colossians 1:18). In Christ the fulness of God was pleased to dwell (Colossians 1:19), in Him the whole fullness of deity dwells bodily (Colossians 2:9). Christ, His person and His power and His life and death and resurrection to life, compels songs! It started on the night of His birth. There is good reason to think that the heavenly choir was doing more singing than chanting in Luke 2.> And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God, and saying,> Glory to God in the highest, > And on earth peace, > Good will toward men. > (Luke 2:13-14 KJV)"Hark! the herald angels sing, glory to the newborn King!" Philippians 2:5-11 has been called a "hymn"; it does have a different rhythm than most prose. It sings of the Incarnation, of Christ Jesus who was made in the likeness of men, and was found in the form of man. 1 Timothy 3:16 also has a more lyrical shape, and begins with the Incarnation, "God was manifest in the flesh." The section above in Colossians 1:15-20 is also often called a hymn, and highlights the Incarnation in multiple ways. Back to Colossians 3, when Christ appears our lives, now hidden in Christ, will appear with Him in glory (Colossians 3:4). So we are commanded to forgive like Christ forgave us (Colossians 3:13). We are required to be ruled by the peace of Christ (Colossians 3:15). And we must let Christ's Word have its place at home in us (Colossians 3:16). What happens when that happens is that we don't stay quiet. We speak and we sing. There is *wisdom* and there is *thanks*. And in our verbal arsenal are songs, songs, and more songs. No joke, I've read the argument that **psalms and hymns and spiritual songs** refer to three classes of psalms. But, there isn't agreement on what psalms are which psalms. Psalms tell us to *sing*, and many Psalms look to the coming of Christ. A couple of Christmas applicable-s are Psalm 96 and 98, both of which start with singing and anticipate the Lord coming to judge. > Oh sing to the LORD a new song; > sing to the LORD, all the earth! > Sing to the LORD, bless his name; > tell of his salvation from day to day. > Declare his glory among the nations, > his marvelous works among all the peoples!> > Let the heavens be glad, and let the earth rejoice; > let the sea roar, and all that fills it; > let the field exult, and everything in it! > Then shall all the trees of the forest sing for joy > before the LORD, for he comes, > for he comes to judge the earth. > He will judge the world in righteousness, > and the peoples in his faithfulness. > (Psalm 96:1-3, 11-13)Of course anything written after about AD 90 would have to be application of Colossians 3:16, but so would any English translation of Colossians 3:16, or of any inspired Psalm, or any more modern musical arrangement. Some of the best in our arsenal are Christmas carols. *Carol* is a word for a song of joy and praise, now most often associated with the Incarnation. Great carols exalt Christ. They teach and admonish one another in wisdom. They express our thanks to God. They let us apply Colossians 3:16. They unite us as one body. They let announce *joy to the world*.“He comes to make His blessings flow Far as the curse is found” is Genesis 3:15. “Adam's likeness, Lord efface, Stamp Thine image in its place” is Colossians 1:28 in carol form. “God rest ye merry, gentlemen, let nothing you dismay. … Now to the Lord sing praises all you within this place.” “Comfort, comfort ye, My people, Speak ye peace thus saith our God; Comfort those who sit in darkness, Bowed beneath their sorrow's load.” “Boundless shall Thy kingdom be; When shall we its glories see?!”There's something that makes singing stir the soul, and when the soul is stirred it wants to sing. *Let men their songs employ.* When I say this message is an apology for Christmas carols, I mean apology not as an admission of error or regret, but apology as defense against criticism. In fact, the ubiquity of pagans singing about Christ's birth is an apologetics class itself. Not every meal is a feast. Not every get-together needs a Cantus bully; we are not on stage in a musical. That said, maybe you could use a little more considerable noise in your house. Get some Cantus under the tree. Use "[Sing Your Part](https://singyourpart.app/)" (or get [the app](https://singyourpart.org/)).# ConclusionWhat better than singing (in minor keys) to express our sadness and longing? What better than singing (in major keys and moving melodies) to express our joy and praise? Choirs help to make community. There's more about that in a book called, _Keeping Together in Time_; choirs are a force against isolation and depression. TEC has power because we have one amazing singing voice. Singing together has *grown* us. > For the Lord God omnipotent reigneth> Hallelujah….> King of kings and Lord of lords > And He shall reign forever and ever> (Handel, Messiah, HWV 56: Part II, no. 44. “Hallelujah Chorus”)Singing is not mere preparation, it is participation. Singing is not filler, it is an expression of faith. Don't hold back. ----------## ChargeSing Your Part is not just the name of an app, it is the charge to every member of the body of Christ. You are a part, you have a part. The church/choir is stronger and better and brighter because of you. You have been called/employed to sing joy to the world, the Savior reigns!## Benediction:> May the God of endurance and encouragement grant you to live in such harmony with one another, in accord with Christ Jesus, that together you may with one voice glorify the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. (Romans 15:5–6 ESV)

In the Covid summer of 2020, the art world was jolted by a very different kind of drama when reports surfaced that MCH Group, the Swiss corporation best known as the parent company of Art Basel, had entered talks to sell a significant equity stake to Lupa Systems, the private investment company founded by none other than James Murdoch. For listeners who haven't spent years devouring media-sector or political gossip, James Murdoch is the fourth of six children of billionaire media mogul Rupert Murdoch, now most infamous for presiding over the hard-right coverage beamed out through Fox News in the U.S. and various overseas properties via his News Corp conglomerate. The proximity of the Murdoch family to Art Basel initially sent some people in the art world into hysterics. One conspiracy theory even held that James was acting as a front for his father, who would take control of the planet's best known, most prestigious art fair and… well, it was never quite clear what he would do, or why he would care, but obviously something dastardly and irreparable was about to happen, and we should all prepare for the worst. Yet people interested in digging soon found out that James Murdoch is very much his own man with his own resources. Although he spent decades in the family business, including prominent roles in some of its satellite TV and entertainment companies, he cut his final tie to the empire when he resigned from the board of News Corp in July 2020. He has been a public critic of Donald Trump as far back as 2017, and through Quadrivium, the foundation James and his wife Kathryn started in 2014, he has funneled substantial philanthropic resources into counteracting climate change, promoting evidence-based solutions in science and health, expanding voting rights, and pushing back against online extremism. He's also a mogul in his own right. When Disney paid a knee-buckling $71.3 billion in 2019 to acquire nearly all of the Murdochs' entertainment assets, James received a reported $2.2 billion from the deal. He launched Lupa Systems shortly after, with sources claiming at the time that he would invest up to $1 billion of his wealth through the company. By fall of 2020, MCH Group's shareholders had approved the deal to make Lupa Systems the company's new “anchor shareholder,” with the option to buy up to 49 percent of its shares. But in the time since, we've heard relatively little from James Murdoch himself about how MCH Group and Art Basel fits alongside the other ventures in Lupa's portfolio, including media properties like the Tribeca Festival, advanced technology startups, and sustainability projects Ahead of the 2023 edition of Art Basel in Basel, however, Artnet News Art Business Editor, Tim Schneider, managed to sit down with James at Lupa Systems New York offices to hear his thinking firsthand.

The news was first reported by the “Pro-Woman, Pro-Child Safeguarding, Anti-Bullsh*t,” media outlet Reduxx. According to the outlet, Twitter contacted the two women — Jasmine Sussex and Leah Whiston — on May 16, notifying them that they had violated Australian law in several of their tweets. The platform told the two that a “government entity or law enforcement agency” had informed them of their alleged crime, and that the platform had been forced to hide the content from Australian users. The posts in question had been critical of Jennifer Buckley, a female-identified male. Buckley had previously announced online that, after two years of transitioning, he had induced lactation and had begun breastfeeding his newborn son, who his wife had given birth to. Sussex was heavily critical of this, telling the U.K.’s Daily Mail that “men shouldn’t breastfeed because breastfeeding [is] for the baby,” and that “there is no evidence that any male-induced milk is equivalent to mother’s milk.” “We have no idea if the substance is even milk. It’s absolutely a human experiment on babies,” she told the outlet. As a volunteer breastfeeding counselor, Sussex was reportedly fired from her job in 2021 for failing to comply with the adoption of “gender neutral” language in breastfeeding care — a claim which the ABA denied to the Daily Mail. A year after, she was removed from the Australian Breastfeeding Association (ABA), Reduxx reported. “I was sacked for. … ‘Engaging in Sectarian Controversy’ in breach of the ABA constitution,” she told Reduxx. “In other words, continuing to talk about the dangers of gender identity ideology for mothers and babies, including how men were forcing their way into the breastfeeding relationship by attempting to induce lactation.” Whiston, meanwhile, is the representative for the Standing for Women Queensland (SFWQ) page. She had posted a Twitter thread on the page, revealing that an LGBT lobby group had allegedly given the ABA $20,000 for them to create an educational booklet about “chest feeding.” https://www.dailysignal.com/2023/05/22/exclusive-leaked-policy-exposes-fox-news-stances-on-woke-ideology/?fbclid=IwAR36KJiUko85jY6nRrQSX4DH2XOZAwUdyaTl-iEhQIfZe9w-ZPnsTY3cAnA Leaked Policy Exposes Fox News Stances on Woke Ideology Fox News employees are allowed to use bathrooms that align with their gender identity, rather than their biological sex, and permitted to dress in alignment with their preferred gender. They must also be addressed by their preferred name and pronouns in the workplace. These are just a few of the policies outlined in the company handbook, dated January 2021, a copy of which was shared with The Daily Signal. Fox also offers to help employees come up with a “Workplace Transition Plan” to ease their gender transition at work. The revelations comes amid conservative consternation at Fox Digital’s use of activist language like “gender affirming care” in stories on its website, as well as the site’s consistent use of female pronouns for biological males like TikTok celebrity Dylan Mulvaney and swimmer Lia Thomas (formerly known as Will Thomas). Fox also drew strong backlash for a June 2022 on-air segment praising a child’s gender transition as an “inspiration to others.” That segment briefly depicted California state Sen. Scott Weiner, a far-left Democrat who led the move to soften sex offender registry requirements for sodomy with minors, and highlighted the activist claim that a child might commit suicide if he or she is not permitted to transition. Carlson’s show was canceled April 24, days after he delivered a viral speech at The Heritage Foundation’s 50th anniversary gala. Fox News Media has not given a reason, simply stating that the two parties “agreed to part ways.” A source who still works at Fox News told The Daily Signal that after Carlson’s show was canceled in April, producers for the new 8 p.m. “Fox News Tonight” program were told not to bash Mulvaney. That directive came from high-level executives, the source said. Fox News did not respond to The Daily Signal’s multiple requests for comment. Under the category “Gender Transition,” Fox’s employee handbook promises that the company is dedicated to “expanding and strengthening” efforts to “sustain a more inclusive work environment.” The Fox employee handbook is posted on Workday, where employees can see company guidelines or policies, a former employee told The Daily Signal. “Employees who are transitioning their gender have the right to be open about their transition if they so choose, and to work in an environment free of harassment, discrimination, or retaliation, and without fear of consequences or transphobia for living openly,” the policy says. Citing the Human Rights Campaign, one of the most prominent LGBTQ organization in the country, the Fox handbook defines a slew of LGBTQ terms, including cisgender, gender expression, gender-fluid, gender identity, gender non-conforming, gender transition, LGBTQ, non-binary, and transgender. For the past several years, Fox received a perfect score on the Human Rights Campaign’s Corporate Equality Index, “the nation’s foremost benchmarking survey and report measuring corporate policies and practices related to LGBTQ+ workplace equality.” A former Fox News employee told The Daily Signal that the company frequently mentions this perfect score in employee training materials. “Fox News devotes hours of programming to attacking ‘woke companies,’ but ironically Fox is as woke as the rest of them,” another former Fox News employee told The Daily Signal, emphasizing that Fox viewers would be “astonished to find out what the company is like.” Fox’s policies appear to be aligned with the legal requirements in New York City, where the company is headquartered, as well as California, where a large number of its employees work. The handbook explicitly states that any employee “may access the restroom corresponding to their gender identity.” “If a transitioning employee expresses a desire for increased privacy they will be provided access to a single occupancy restroom where available,” the handbook says. “However, no employee shall be required to use a single occupancy restroom if they do not wish to do so.” When trans-identifying TikTok star Mulvaney was first gaining prominence last year, producers for “Tucker Carlson Tonight” had to fight to be able to refer to Mulvaney with male pronouns in the show’s chyrons, the former “Tucker Carlson Tonight” producer told The Daily Signal. Carlson’s team also fought to be able to host The Daily Wire’s Matt Walsh on trans issues, the producer said, but the team was repeatedly met with resistance from Fox on this due to Walsh’s frank condemnation of transgender ideology. This may have also been due in part to Fox’s view of The Daily Wire as a competitor, the former producer suggested. https://www.based-politics.com/2023/05/22/this-public-college-is-giving-out-paid-internships-that-openly-exclude-white-people/ This public college is giving out paid internships that openly exclude white people Martin Luther King Jr. famously dreamed of a day when Americans would be judged not by the color of their skin but by the content of their character. Well, keep dreaming, MLK, because segregation and open race discrimination are making a comeback—this time, in progressive bastions like our higher education system and in the name of “Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion.” The University of Minnesota just got hit with a federal civil rights complaint because it’s openly conditioning a paid internship program on the basis of race. Their “Multicultural Summer Research Opportunities Program” is “an intensive 10 week summer program in which undergraduate students of color work full-time with a faculty mentor on a research project.” It aims to help in “preparing students for graduate school and developing research skills,” and pays students a $6,000 stipend. A condition of the program is that it is only open to students who “identify” as “a student of color or Native American.” This program’s legality is being challenged by the Legal Insurrection Foundation’s Equal Protection Project (EPP), which “seeks to ensure equal protection under the law and non-discrimination by the government” and “opposes racial discrimination in any form.” They just filed a complaint with the Office of Civil Rights of the U.S. Department of Education arguing that this internship program violates the Civil Rights Act and the Equal Protection clause of the Constitution. “The U. Minnesota segregated summer program is inexcusable, and it’s shocking that a major university would so openly make educational opportunities open only to students of a certain skin color,” EPP President Bill told Fox News Digital. “There is no good form of racial discrimination. Depriving white students of educational opportunities does not promote racial or any other form of justice.” https://www.breitbart.com/politics/2023/05/21/census-new-york-city-loses-nearly-half-a-million-residents-in-two-years/ New York City Loses Nearly Half a Million Residents in Two Years New York City has lost nearly half a million residents over the course of just two years, newly released United States Census Bureau data reveals. The Census Bureau data, which shows population estimates for mid-2022, finds that fewer than 8.4 million residents remain living in New York City — still making the Big Apple the nation’s most populous city by several million. In April 2020, the very start of the Chinese coronavirus pandemic, more than 8.8 million residents lived in New York City. This figure indicates a population loss of more than five percent from April 2020 to July 2022 with almost half a million residents leaving the city. Americans moving out of deep blue cities is widespread, the Census Bureau data shows. The second largest city, Los Angeles, California, and the third largest city, Chicago, Illinois, also lost residents over the course of two years. In Los Angeles, for instance, about 3.8 million residents remain in the city as of July 2022 compared to about 3.9 million residents in April 2020, a loss of about 100,000 residents. Similarly, Chicago had about 2.67 million residents as of July 2022 but in April 2020, the city had about three percent more residents. Over the two years, about 85,000 residents left Chicago. And now for the rundown… https://andmagazine.substack.com/p/china-is-building-killer-robots-using Many of us have seen The Terminator, a 1984 film starring Arnold Schwarzenegger. It depicts an almost unstoppable robot sent back in time from 2029 to 1984. Its mission was to kill a woman whose unborn son will save humanity from Skynet, a 2029 artificial intelligence system that had become self-aware and then decided to destroy all of mankind because humans were interfering in their plans and programs. The Chinese Communist Party, the CCP, is now creating their version of the Terminator -- an army of battlefield killer robots that will not be managed by humans in any way and, instead, will be controlled by an artificial intelligence (AI) system. The Chinese plan for building such lethal autonomous robots was revealed by Zeng Yi, an executive in a Chinese government-owned company named Norinco. He said, “In future battlegrounds, there will be no people fighting,” adding that autonomous AI platforms are “inevitable.” https://www.washingtonexaminer.com/news/washington-secrets/explosion-of-ap-climate-change-stories-following-8m-enviro-grant In the year following a grant of more than $8 million to the Associated Press from key climate change advocates, the news service has poured out at least 64 stories warning of environmental calamity, according to a new media study.Media Research Center Business charted the stories and language used following the multimillion-dollar grant and found that AP also used over 500 environmental extremism buzzwords in the stories. The media giant, which feeds news outlets worldwide, received grants totaling $8 million from the William and Flora Hewlett Foundation, the Howard Hughes Medical Institute, Quadrivium, the Rockefeller Foundation, and the Walton Family Foundation in February 2022. AP said it would hire 20 new environmental writers with the money to create a climate swat team to “enhance the global understanding of climate change and its impact across the world.” https://www.outkick.com/trans-high-school-track-runner-robs-female-athlete-of-state-championship-bid/ Another day, another biological male taking opportunities from deserving females.Athena Ryan took second place Saturday in the high school women’s 1600 meter race at the North Coast Meet of Champions in California. The top three athletes advance to the CIF State Track & Field Championships next week. So the fourth-place finisher, Adeline Johnson, missed her chance to compete in State by just one spot. A spot taken by a boy. Ryan, a junior at Sonoma Academy, competed on the men’s team in 2021. But he’s been running in women’s events for the past two seasons. In Saturday’s meet, he clocked a season-record 4:55:91 in the 1600m finals. He would have finished last in the male category. The slowest male time in the preliminaries was 4:46:54. The slowest male time in the finals was 4:35:12. A group of advocates held a banner at the event that simply read, “Protect Female Sports.” They were eventually asked to leave and then escorted off the premises. But not before they had an interesting exchange with an angry passerby. How about we end with some cool news… https://www.dailyfetched.com/soldier-who-lost-both-legs-in-afghanistan-does-the-unimaginable-and-climbs-everest-anything-is-possible/ British army soldier Gurkha veteran Hari Budha Magar, who lost both his legs while serving in Afghanistan, has successfully climbed to the top of the world’s tallest mountain, Mount Everest. Magar, a father of three, served as a corporal in the Gurkha regiment in the British Army. After Magar lost his legs to an improvised explosive device in 2010, he thought his life was “completely finished.” The veteran, who now lives in Canterbury, England, battled depression and alcoholism following the explosion. But Magar persevered. The veteran helped strike down a ban on both double amputees and blind people climbing Everest, ensuring he would have a chance at overcoming both nature and his injuries. According to the BBC, Magar hoped to “inspire others” and “change perceptions on disability” and set off with a team of Nepalese climbers to combat Everest. He” set off on May 6 with a team of Nepalese climbers led by Krish Thapa, a fellow Gurkha veteran and British special forces mountain troop leader. Magar announced he “stood victorious” atop Everest around 3 p.m. on May 19, noting, “Disability is no barrier to reaching the 8,849-metre peak.”

Since ancient times, classical educators regarded math as a subject to make one wise. Math demonstrates the order, beauty, and harmony in the world around us in a way language cannot always do, and classical education roots the teaching of math in the pursuit of truth, beauty, and goodness. In this episode, host Winston Brady speaks with Phillip Johnson, Professor of Engineering and Sciences at Thales College, and Ravi Jain, an Alcuin Fellow, author of "The Liberal Arts Tradition," and the graduate scholar in science and religion at Oriel College, Oxford University. In the episode, they discuss the history of mathematics education, as well as the ways in which mathematics helps students better understand truth and beauty, and thereby gain wisdom and virtue. We can use mathematics not only to solve problems but also to gain confidence that our world is not inherently random and chaotic—that there is an order to the world that we can see, test, and demonstrate through the power of mathematical reasoning.

Jason Heller de The A.V. Por su parte, The Mediator Between Head and Hands Must Be the Heart tuvo una mejor recepción crítica.

In this episode we continue our talk on the Liberal Arts with the second topic of the Quadrivium, that of geometry. Geometry is the study of number in space. Certain geometric forms found in nature have been known throughout the ages, cultures recognized repeating shapes and patterns, and in reverence idolized these forms in their arts and artifacts, and even to their megalithic structures which still stand today. These geometric forms, which make up the very fabric in which we exist, have since had symbolic value and meaning added to them, which in turn has lead them to be known as sacred. To comprehend the principles and qualitative side to this subject, we must take the journey from the single point, into the line, out to the plane, through the third dimension and beyond, returning to the point to see what we find along the way. Our special guest today is the one and only Gregory Wilbur! Greg is founder and president of New College Franklin—a Christian college that concentrates on the classics and the seven liberal arts with a discussion-based approach and spiritual formation. In addition to teaching and developing curriculum, his current academic focus is advancing the disciplines of the Quadrivium by bringing together leading voices in its renewal. An award-winning musician, Greg has released seven albums of his compositions of congregational psalms, hymns and service music as well as theatrical musicals and film scores, and his hymns can be found in more than ten hymnals. Having taught for almost thirty years, he is a frequent speaker on music, the Quadrivium, arts, liturgy, and worship and serves as Chief Musician and liturgist at Cornerstone Presbyterian Church in Franklin, TN. Greg, his wife, Sophia, and daughter, Eleanor, enjoy travel, reading, cooking, taking walks and life in middle Tennessee. In today's episode, Mystie and Brandy dig interrogate Greg about music. In The Liberal Arts Tradition, music appears twice: once as a sort of poetic mode of knowing, and later as a liberal art that looks suspiciously like math. We want to know where instruments come in. *** It's not too late to join the Excellent Marxmanship seminar going on now in the Sistership. In this episode we continue our exploration of the Liberal Arts. To gain a better grasp of the Quadrivium, we must being with the study of number. We want to take a look at the qualitative side of number, the why, not so much the protocol side. To address this we must go back to the origins of the study of number by the Pythagoreans. What do numbers represent? What are the hidden qualities of number? And how does it relate to the other subjects of geometry, music and cosmology? These simple universal languages are as relevant today as that have always been, and may be found in all known sciences and cultures, without disagreement. This is because they are based in universal truth. Enjoy!Any questions, comments or simply would like to get in touch, reach out to us at esotericether@protonmail.com

In this episode we get into the 7 Liberal Arts & Sciences. The education system that the majority of the world has adopted has produced far too many drones, people that are perhaps smart enough to do their jobs, but clearly not smart enough to question why. How did we get to this point? For far too long we have been inhibited in our growth by only focusing on the protocol of something, the how, and not the rationale, the why we do something. How can we discover truth in a world full of theories? How can we truly manipulate reality? Enter the 7 Liberal Arts, the solution that lies in the ancient education of the Trivium and Quadrivium. It is the foundation of knowledge, and therefore freedom. A complete comprehension of anything requires we know these methods, and to learn not just the quantitative side, but also the qualitative side. On today's show we are sharing a section of a Youtube live stream where Danny and Maura discuss The (lost) 7 Liberal arts. Most of us never had much exposure to the liberal arts or this framework in our primary education, but I was was introduced to it as an undergraduate with Columbia's core corriculum.Liber means both book (knowledge) & free in Latin. Knowledge is freedom.Education is derived from educare, to lead out from. Education leads us away from the darkness of ignorance & into the light of knowledge. Modern “education” is really just indoctrination. Indoctrere means to speak into something. So instead of leading us away from ignorance, indoctrination speaks into us to shape our perception. The Trivium is derived from the ancient Latin tres, tria (three) & via, which is a way, path, or method. The trivium is a 3-fold discovery methodology for reaching the truth. It's a truth discovery methodology with 3 steps: grammar, logic & rhetoric.Truth discovery starts with the trivium, quadrivium, and the 5 senses. The ancient trivium was also divided into three: knowledge (grammar), understanding (logic) & wisdom (rhetoric). In modern times, we can classify this as input, processing & output.Knowledge (grammar) is the gathering of information—who, what, where, when, etc.Understanding (logic) refers to information processing. This is how we get to the “why”. What's the meaning of this information? This is where we weed out logical inconsistencies from our data set, and it has 3 sub-steps: filtration, correlation & analysis.Wisdom (rhetoric) is the output phase. This is knowledge & understanding in action. Wisdom is doing the right thing based upon what you've come to know & understand. Wisdom is right action. It's how we answer the last question: what am I going to do with this? The Quadrivium is the fourfold quantification tool set we use during the information processing phase of the trivium. It's how we use & apply logic. It's arithmetic, geometry, music & astronomy. The quadrivium is built into nature & provable in nature. Nothing is subjective in number (quantity), form (expression) & vibration (energy).Arithmetic (quantity) is basic mathematical processes of addition, subtraction, multiplication & division. It's pure abstraction through numbers. This is how we get to algebra, trigonometry, matrices, etc.Geometry (form) is the study of shape, size, proportion, position, etc. Geometry is the arithmetic of space. Physics would be an example.Music (vibration) is the study of vibratory energy, for example, thermodynamics. It's the arithmetic of time.Astronomy is the dynamics of the macro body of the heavens, or the arithmetic of time & space. Astronomy has been called the music of heavenly bodies.5th grade test from a little red schoolhouse in Salina, Kansas: https://newrepublic.com/article/79470/1895-8th-grade-final-exam-i-couldnt-pass-it-could-you Sources: Woodenbooks, the School Sucks Project, Crrow777 Low Carb Hustle podcast: www.lowcarbhustlepodcast.com Announcement Links:Protein pancakes: https://www.instagram.com/p/CKnRtPrgCGD/Protein: https://www.seacretdirect.com/300943591/en/us/item/3898/SHAKE-VANILLA-Shake-Vanilla/Recovery: https://www.seacretdirect.com/300943591/en/us/item/2020/Recovery-Buy-3-Get-1-FREE-Recovery-Promo-Pack-Qty-4/Molecular hydrogen studies: www.molecularhydrogenstudies.com  Intro Song - https://soundcloud.com/freemusicforvlogs/kazura-back-to-you-free-music-for-vlogs This week's sponsor is keto brick, our favorite shelf-stable fat bomb. Is the discipline of physics the “Queen of the Sciences”? In this conversation with polymath and professor Jim Clarage, we discuss the ways in which the discipline of physics takes up all seven of the classical liberal arts. Along the way we consider other disciplines—music, mathematics, and theology—that also may fulfill this role and why Newman's “circle of the sciences” remains relevant today. With cameos by Darwin, Einstein, and Galileo, we sketch the place of advanced scientific thought within liberal learning and the humility that may be required for its study. In this talk, Kelly Snook will provide a guided tour through the exquisite beauty of the Badí Calendar, which is followed by Baha'is around the world. She will explain in simple terms the daily, monthly, yearly, and even less frequent astronomical events that anchor the calendar to the physics of our local solar system. This Calendar, believed to be the first to be revealed by a Divine Messenger, was laid out by The Báb in the mid-19th Century and adopted fully by Baha'is worldwide in 2015. It is uniquely tied to both solar and lunar movements, such as the northern vernal equinox and new moon conjunction. Have you ever felt a little fuzzy on why the dates of the Gregorian calendar shift with respect to the dates of Baha'i Holy Days and other days of interest? Or what the equinox is and why it is a good marker of time? Or why the Lunar Calendar is so different from solar calendars like our modern standard calendar, which has leap years to stay aligned with the sun? Kelly hopes to make it all not just a little less confusing, but hopefully generate genuine appreciation for its beauty and perfection by bringing in the music of the spheres and demonstrating how the Calendar directly manifests God's principles of Oneness and Harmony. Dr Kelly Snook was trained in Aeronautics and Astronautics, as well as in music. She is now creating a new field of research, called "Investigative Music" that is partially a return to Johannes Kepler's time, when music was used as one of the four tools for exploring the world. Arithmetic, geometry, astronomy and music comprised the Quadrivium, the four modes of scientific inquiry. Before science as we knew it existed, these were the ways that the physical world was investigated. Arithmetic, the study of number; geometry, the study of number in space; music, the study of number in time; and astronomy, the study of number in space and time. When Johannes Kepler discovered his three laws of planetary motion, it was through the application of musical principles of harmony and spiritual principles of oneness that emerged the mathematical equations he will forever be famous for. Calendars are essentially the application of our astronomical understanding of space and time to the collective patterns of human activity. Kelly seeks to make audible and explorable these fundamental patterns in Nature.

It's dangerous to take away freedoms once they're given.” JP's advice triggered the memory of a delightful video by Daniel Pink (which you'll find on Page Four of Indiana Beagle's rabbit hole,) in which Pink says we need just 3 things to make us happy: 1. Autonomy, the freedom to do things our own way. 2. Mastery, the ability to get better and better at something. 3. Purpose, the knowledge that we're making a difference. JP's comment also reminded me of a statement shared with me by Eric Rhoads: “The best fertilizer is the gardener's shadow.” Eric's comment, in turn, triggered the memory of something Tom Grimes shared with me by email in the middle of the night exactly one year ago – July 29, 2014. Tom says the happiest companies are run by business owners who practice “Management by Walking Around.” You can read his fun and insightful email on Page One of Indy's rabbit hole. (Just click the trio of flying children over Indy's head at the top of this page.) As you can see, I connected these thoughts dot-to-dot-to-dot and realized once more that the combined insights of the people in our lives can be an incredibly powerful thing. If we could collect these experiences and organize them to bring forward the best of the past, that would be magic in a bottle. [This thought, wearing many different disguises, has been orbiting my brain like Halley's Comet, showing up periodically in the middle of the night ever since Mia Erichson sent the note about the Trivium and Quadrivium that became the Monday Morning Memo, http://mondaymemo.wpengine.com/newsletters/glenn-gould-played-piano/ (Glenn Gould Played Piano.) ] What this Means to the Future of Wizard AcademyWizard Academy was established 15 years ago in a Monday Morning Memo. The things you readers have built since then are remarkable! No, remarkable is the wrong word. What you've built is astonishing. You stepped forward and donated your time and wisdom and money to create: a worldwide group of alumni and adjunct faculty that are positively electric. a spectacular campus with zero debt. a network of thousands of business owners who claim the experiences they've had at Wizard Academy have made a huge difference in the success of their endeavors. The time has come for us to complete what we have started. The good news is that it doesn't take much money. The bad news is that it takes something far more precious. I need you to take inventory of your intellectual property – those techniques and shortcuts and special bits of wisdom you've gathered over the years – and send that list to Vice Chancellor Whittington. Wizard Academy is known for its ability to teach the “art” of running a business. The time has come for us to add the “science.” Until we have done this, our school will remain incomplete. What do you have – in your head – that you could give to The American Small Business Institute at Wizard Academy? The ASBI will collect and offer all the left-brain, sequential, step-by-step, mathematical and procedural genius of its faculty and alumni to create...

When Glenn Gould retired from playing the great concert halls of the world, he climbed aboard a Canadian train and rode it north to the end of the line. During this journey, Glenn recorded the conversations of his fellow passengers and mixed them into a strangely compelling audio presentation called The Idea of North (1967). It was the first installment in his Solitude Trilogy. Solitude is when you push the world away. Isolation is when the world pushes you away. A simple reversal of energy is all that separates the two. Energy must always have a direction. Glenn Gould knew this. Music is energy. Life is energy. Notes in a song can go North or South: up or down. Life has its ups and downs, too. The movement of music West to East – left to right – is tied to the passage of time. So we experience music all in one direction, exactly as we experience life. The speed of music is called its tempo. What is the tempo of your life? The line traced by the rising and falling of the notes as we move left to right is called musical contour: melody. If your emotions could be charted throughout the day, you would see that a day, a month, a season, a life has a melody, too.Does night follow day, or does day follow night, or does the earth just spin around a ball of light? Evidently, these are the things I think about when I'm on vacation. When I'm not on vacation I think about how to attract customers to your business. I'll bet you'll be glad when I get back from vacation, right? I look at what I've written so far and think, “It's good that I don't keep track of how many people subscribe and unsubscribe, because a Monday Morning Memo like this one is likely to set a new record for losing the largest number of readers in a single day.” That's as much as I had written when I received an email from Mia Erichson, the woman that caused Jeffrey Eisenberg to abandon Brooklyn. This is what she wrote:For no reason that matters to this discussion, this afternoon I was thinking about The Trivium. The Trivium is a systematic method of critical thinking used to derive factual certainty from information perceived with the traditional five senses: sight, sound, taste, touch, and smell. The Trivium – is the lower division of the Seven Thinking ArtsGrammar  – the art of letters Logic – use and study of valid reasoning Rhetoric – the art of discourse, an art that aims to improve the capability of writers or speakers to inform, persuade, or motivate particular audiences in specific situations The Quadrivium – is the upper division of the Seven Thinking ArtsArithmetic (number) Geometry (number in space) Music (number in time) Astronomy (number in space and time) Mia then went on to describe – rather brilliantly and with details – how the curriculum of Wizard Academy might be organized in a similar way, thereby giving students a clear path of progression toward their goals. Mia's note was encouraging to me for a variety of reasons:It made my wandering thoughts feel a little less crazy and a lot less irrelevant. (I'd never heard of the Quadrivium, so I Googled it and learned that Plato and Pythagorus and the scholars who followed them thought of medicine and architecture as practical arts, but the Trivium and Quadrivium were the liberal or “thinking” arts. Wow. People have been pondering this idea of mapping things in space and time for more than two thousand years.) It reminded me that Wizard Academy is being built by many hands and minds. Now in its fifteenth year, the Academy is growing increasingly independent of Pennie and me with every passing month. This is a very, very good thing. Mia is the very successful Chief Marketing Officer of a large national company. Her 9 to 5 job is similar to my own and her idle thoughts are just as crazy as my own, so maybe there's nothing wrong with me after all. Perhaps
