In this episode, Jeannette talks to Lindsay Garvey-Jones and Julie Nunes. Two inspiring leaders from the travel sector. They talk about, the often-taboo subject of menopause. Something that impacts society as a whole as well as the women who are suffering from the, often debilitating, symptoms of menopause. They do this partly by sharing their own experiences and what is helping them. Including how the menopause has impacted them physically, mentally, and emotionally. In the process of doing that, they discuss, sex during menopause, HRT, herbal remedies, diet, exercise, and sleep. Including talking about the things anyone can do to support themselves while their body adapts. They also discuss how business owners can make, often small changes, to support their employees better. Making it easier for women to continue to work despite their menopausal symptoms. KEY TAKEAWAYS The menopause is not a female-only topic. It affects everyone. Including the family, friends, and colleagues of women who are going through it. There are 35 symptoms of menopause. Being self-aware will help you and your doctor to manage your symptoms. Seek out a GP that understands the menopause. Not all of them do. Mental health is a big issue. Yet, often, the wrong treatment is prescribed. Invest in yourself. You have one body to carry you through life so need to be kind to it. Don´t ignore or just live with vaginal dryness. Doing so can lead to problems with your urinary tract. Speak to your partner about sex and be open to exploring new ways of enjoying sex together. In the UK, 900,000 women have left the workforce due to menopause symptoms. With a little support, many of them could have continued to work and contribute. Currently, most workplaces do not provide support. But this is set to change. How, is discussed in the podcast. There are lots of free things businesses can do to make things easier. Men need support too. Why that is and how they can be supported is discussed in the podcast. BEST MOMENTS ‘The symptoms of the menopause can actually last for up to 20 years. ´ ‘Every single GP practice, in the UK, should have a practitioner that is dedicated to the menopause.' ‘Men really suffer as well and sometimes feel a bit ashamed that they haven´t supported their partners.' This is the perfect time to get focused on what YOU want to really achieve in your business, career, and life. It's never too late to be BRAVE and BOLD and unlock your inner BRILLIANCE.
