The Driller Killer (1979) dir. The Hoppes share their story of waiting.
Thousands of vines roll over the hills like neatly placed stitches on a rumpled bed quilt. The sunset on Red Mountain’s Sunset Road near Richland, Washington, is usually spectacular. But on this evening, the sun just slips behind a dirty-white veil of smoke. Pickers can’t work as much in the smoke, says Red Mountain winemaker Charlie Hoppes . “I mean we’ve really taken a week off in the middle of harvest,” Hoppes says, “which I haven’t done in 33 years. I’ve never had anything this big happen in the middle of harvest.” As the recent thick blanket of wildfire smoke clears, what remains is worry. Smoke may have tainted fruit across the West. The industry wants relief money, through an extension of the Wildfire and Hurricane Indemnity Program Plus . In a letter to the U.S. House of Representatives, industry officials say: “We fear these wildfires, and potentially more to come, will result in the greatest economic loss, due to a natural disaster, ever suffered by the industry in our states

M., Abdul-Karim, M.-A., Heal, M. L., Glaser, J. R. Abstract: With advances in microscopy and computer science, the technique of digitally reconstructing, modeling, and quantifying microscopic anatomies has become central to many fields of biological research. MBF Bioscience has chosen to openly document their digital reconstruction file format, Neuromorphological File Specification (4.0), available at www.mbfbioscience.com/filespecification (Angstman et al. 2020). One of such technologies, the format created and maintained by MBF Bioscience is broadly utilized by the neuroscience community. The data format's structure and capabilities have evolved since its inception, with modifications made to keep pace with advancements in microscopy and the scientific questions raised by worldwide experts in the field. More recent modifications to the neuromorphological data format ensure it abides by the Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, and Reusable (FAIR) data standards promoted by the International Neuroinformatics Coordinating Facility (INCF; Wilkinson et al. 2016). The incorporated metadata make it easy to identify and repurpose these data types for downstream application and investigation. This publication describes key elements of the file format and details their relevant structural advantages in an effort to encourage the reuse of these rich data files for alternative analysis or reproduction of derived conclusions. Many Northwest wine tastings for groups are done over Zoom nowadays. Here at Fidélitas in southeast Washington, winemaker and owner Charlie Hoppes explains some of his favorite flavors in a video for wine club members with his son: “We always seem to get that little bit of dustiness in this wine, that we talk about from Red Mountain,” Hoppes says. The sales generated from this video tasting with patrons is important. It’s one of the key ways wineries can reach their customers right now during the pandemic. Tasting rooms and restaurants have been closed. Events are canceled. Beyond the dearth of traditional wine sales, there’s a surge of juice coming this harvest. Across the Northwest, there are too many wine grapes and not enough demand. It started with an overly optimistic industry planting too much. Then came the coronavirus pandemic. Now, vineyard managers and wineries are being forced to think creatively to cope with 2020’s bumper crop. “I can’t remember it ever being like this,”

What is Lion Launch? Let’s find out more with Laura Hoppes, Lion Launch Coordinator. Laura shared with us about this brand new entrepreneurial initiative being held at the Schuylkill Campus of Penn State. The Program is open to the community as well as Penn State students and staff. The first phase of Lion Launch is a ten-week Bootcamp entitled How to Start or Grow your Business. Some of the subjects provided in the ten week session include: human resources, marketing, social media, and insurance, to mention a few. Following the bootcamp, those participating move into creating a business plan for a four to five week period Phase II is a business competition. Penn State has earmarked $50,000 to help businesses earn money to build their business. The business competition will be open to the public as well as those in Lion Launch. It will be a shark tank type presentation with money presented to the top three winners. Phase III will be the incubator program providing businesses with a location to not only work on their business but to have administrative assistance as well as provide a means for networking and mentoring their business. SCORE has been very instrumental in implementing Phase I of the program by helping to create the curriculum and provide the speakers for the Bootcamp. Laura sees the SCORE mentors becoming a key role in Phase II and III. The most exciting fact is that Lion Launch has the potential of helping more than 75 businesses get involved in the community with its three year commitment to the Schuylkill county area. Some of the businesses that are in the initial class include a winery, medical device, and online businesses. Your business could become involved in future classes.

From gun lubrication to Isuzus needing lubricating, and from Auntie Entity to Dilbert, it's GOT to be the Garage Hour. We know gearhead, and we are geeksauce. This might be one of our best episodes ever, with beer, the Garage Hour goons' advice column, Mitt "Chainsaw" Romney, freefall Red Bull daredevils, lots of good rock and roll, promotions of the upcoming Sasquatch Run and our Oktoberfest drinking session at Maxwell's House of Books. From there, it's economical cars and foreign cars and performance cars hybrid cars, upon which we heap mountains of disdain and encouragement and some bad FIAT jokes and even worse Russian accents. It all ends with great discussions of racing at Bathurst in Australia (Supercar = awesomesauce) and some pity for the wreckage of Michael Schumacher's F1 career. There's also a massive Villains' Cage Match discussion, with Lord Humongous of Road Warrior fame versus Khan Noonien Singh from Star Trek's "Wrath of Khan", plus a revisitation of previous battles and some unfinished villain business.
Fr. John Parker visited Albania in May of 2014 and while there interviewed OCMC missionaries Nathan and Gabriela Hoppe.
