What to listen for:“Trust your dog, but trust your training first.”Our hosts, Robin Greubel and Stacy Barnett, welcome back veteran USAR handler Bob Deeds to talk about the artificial divide between working dog and sport detection communities, and why both sides desperately need each other!Bob shares his journey from FEMA disaster work into nose work, leading into his innovative "geo-scenting" protocol. This hybrid sport combines geocaching with scent detection using clove oil, specifically chosen to avoid the venue-hopping confusion he observed in sport handlers who switched between organizations.Sport handlers often remain clique-ish, loyal to single venues (K9 Nose Work vs. NACSW) despite identical underlying science. Bob advocates aggressively for cross-training, noting how watching elite sport handlers transformed his leash skills after a Belgian trainer bluntly told him they "sucked."Meanwhile, working dog handlers can learn environmental assessment and body language reading from sport competitors operating under time pressure. Bob describes sport handlers' eyes "scanning like machines" upon room entry. He also considers puzzle work as the great equalizer. He recounts how a struggling student's reactive Standard Poodle transformed after two weeks of pure puzzle training. All this and more in this episode of K9 Detection Collaborative! Century Lithium CEO Bill Willoughby joined Steve Darling from Proactive to provide a comprehensive update on the company's flagship Angel Island Lithium Project, a feasibility-stage development located in Nevada, one of the most resource-rich and mining-friendly jurisdictions in the United States. With growing urgency around the development of a domestic lithium supply chain, driven in part by the White House Executive Order to secure critical minerals essential to the U.S. economy and national security, Century Lithium believes it is strategically positioned to support this federal initiative. The Angel Island project is designed as a single-source mining and production operation for battery-grade lithium carbonate, a material vital for electric vehicles, renewable energy storage, and defense technologies. Dr. Willoughby noted that the company recently held a productive meeting with the Nevada State Office of the Bureau of Land Management to assess the permitting progress for the Angel Island project, in light of the federal directive. The meeting also addressed the current status of environmental studies, which are essential for progressing the project's regulatory approvals. The next steps at the federal level include will include completion and final approval of all baseline environmental studies, preparation and submission of the Mine Plan of Operations, and then the BLM will determine the level of review required under the National Environmental Policy Act —either an Environmental Assessment or a more comprehensive Environmental Impact Statement. Angel Island is designed to be a fully integrated lithium operation, capable of producing an average of 34,000 tonnes per year of high-purity lithium carbonate over an estimated 40-year mine life. This end-to-end capability would make Angel Island a cornerstone contributor to the U.S. EV battery supply chain, reducing reliance on overseas processing and mitigating geopolitical risks associated with foreign supply. #proactiveinvestors #centurylithiumcorp #tsxv #lce #otcqx #cydvf #mining #oricaspecialtymining #CenturyLithium #BatteryMetals #USMining #EnergyTransition #EVs #MiningNews #LithiumProject #Tonopah #CriticalMinerals #PilotPlant #NEPA #BLM #CleanEnergy
Interview with Dan Wilton, CEO of First Mining Gold Corp. Our previous interview: https://www.cruxinvestor.com/posts/first-mining-gold-tsxff-ceo-believes-they-are-a-standout-in-a-dwindling-field-of-advanced-assets-6314Recording date: 4th February 2025First Mining Gold (TSX: FF) is strategically positioned with two of Canada's largest undeveloped gold projects - Springpole in Ontario and Duparquet in Quebec. Each project boasts over 5 million ounces of gold resources, placing them in the coveted "world-class" category at a time when such large-scale development projects are becoming increasingly scarce in Canada. The company's flagship Springpole project is advancing through the final stages of the federal Environmental Assessment process, with approval anticipated by the end of 2025. The Duparquet project, located in Quebec's prolific Abitibi gold belt, is also progressing with an environmental impact study underway. The timing appears favorable for First Mining, as the gold mining industry faces a significant challenge in replenishing reserves. Recent years have seen six major gold mines built in Canada, with Osisko's Windfall project becoming the seventh to enter construction. This development surge has left few large-scale projects in the pipeline, creating a potential supply gap that major producers will need to address. The scarcity of advanced gold projects, particularly those exceeding 5 million ounces, has driven up valuations in recent transactions. Projects of this scale in Canada have consistently commanded prices of $500 million or more, even before securing final permits. Notable examples include Newcrest Mining's $2.8 billion acquisition of Brucejack and Kirkland Lake Gold's $4.9 billion purchase of Detour Lake.Despite these comparable transactions, First Mining's market capitalization stands at just C$150 million, suggesting potential upside as the company progresses through key permitting milestones. The company has demonstrated capital efficiency by raising over $60 million through non-dilutive means over the past five years, including asset sales, royalty creation, and strategic partnerships.CEO Dan Wilton believes the industry is approaching a critical juncture, noting that only three projects are likely to secure approvals and permits for construction before 2030, with Springpole among them. This scarcity, combined with depleting reserves at major producers and a strong gold price environment, creates a compelling opportunity for First Mining. The current market dynamics, characterized by rising gold prices amid economic uncertainty and major producers' urgent need to replenish reserves, provide a supportive backdrop for advanced gold developers. With two large-scale projects advancing through permitting in tier-one jurisdictions, First Mining offers investors exposure to this emerging opportunity in the gold sector.View First Mining Gold's company profile: https://www.cruxinvestor.com/companies/first-mining-goldSign up for Crux Investor: https://cruxinvestor.com

Environmental regulators are beginning to clamp down on Starbase. The big question is: Do these enforcement actions have enough significance to force the FAA to delay launch activities at Boca Chica? Some troubling headlines appeared on CNBC.com on Monday, August 12, 2024 concerning SpaceX's alleged issues regarding compliance with environmental regulations that govern their activities at the Starbase facility in Boca Chica, Texas. The story by Lora Kolodny alleges that “Elon Musk's SpaceX violated environmental regulations by repeatedly releasing pollutants into or near bodies of water in Texas, a state agency said in a notice of violation focused on the company's water deluge system at its Starbase launch facility. “The notice from the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) last week came five months after the Environmental Protection Agency Region 6 office, which covers Texas and surrounding states, had also informed SpaceX that it violated the Clean Water Act with the same type of activity.” SpaceX finally submitted an application for an Industrial Wastewater Individual Permit on July 1, 2024. It was later revised, and the revised application was submitted August 14, 2024. Beginning at 45:20 of this episode we discuss the following: SpaceX posted a response on X in the afternoon of August 12. It dubbed the CNBC story “factually inaccurate,” and revealed additional interesting information that was previously unknown to us. So Many Questions… We're devoting this looonng episode (sorry!) to an analysis of these developments, and Eric Roesch is back with us to help give it all the once-over. And you know that wherever Eric is, a controversial, SpaceX-related environmental issue can't be far behind. Among the topics we'll discuss: What exactly happened here? The classic question: What did SpaceX know, and when did they know it? Do these enforcement actions have enough significance to force the FAA to delay launch activities at Boca Chica? How much worse can SpaceX make it by continuing to use the water deluge system before a permit is issued? What are the potential consequences for these violations? Could anyone actually go to jail? In SpaceX's response post on X, why don't some of SpaceX's assertions make sense? Why did the FAA on Monday (the same day the CNBC story broke) cancel previously scheduled public hearings on the new draft Environmental Assessment for Boca Chica which requests a higher launch cadence and use of a bigger, more powerful and louder version of Starship than is currently in use? Please be sure to let us know your thoughts on the topics we discuss. You can always reach us at mailbag@TalkingSpaceOnline.com. Fred Bell, CEO of Elemental Altus Royalties (TSX.V:ELE) (OTCQX:ELEMF), joins us to review the recent acquisition of 2 brownfields tungsten royalties, as well as a royalty partner update on the Diba Mine nearing first production. In the news released to the market on July 22nd, Elemental Altus Royalties has acquired two existing royalties from Cornish Metals Inc. including an uncapped 4% net smelter return ("NSR") royalty on the Mactung Project in Canada currently being advanced by Fireweed Metals Corp, and a 1% NSR royalty on the high-grade Cantung Project, a formerly operating tungsten mine in Canada. Mactung, operated and owned by Fireweed Metals, is one of the largest, high-grade tungsten deposits in the world and one of the few high-grade tungsten deposits outside of China, that also has the Environmental Assessment completed as part of previous permitting. Fireweed Metals, a well-financed, Lundin Group company, has an experienced management team with a track record of securing funding for mine development. The next key catalyst on the Project will be a new PEA later in 2024, building on the updated Mineral Resource Estimate in 2023. Fred also briefly reviews the overlooked value in the previously operating Cantung Project, and why their team is bullish on the fundamentals of the tungsten markets as a strategic metal of importance. Next we got a royalty partner update on the expected maiden production from the Diba Gold Project, operated by Allied Gold Corp (TSX: AAUC). Allied Gold has announced that their 12,000 meter drilling program is targeting extending the Mineral Resources at Diba. This is significant as the exploration program is designed to prioritize near-mine oxides and comes on top of the previously announced initial Proven and Probable Reserves of 280,000 ounces of gold at 1.43 g/t within the larger 377,000 ounces of gold in Measured and Indicated Resources that was announced in February 2024. Diba is expected to materially contribute to production at Sadiola from mid-2024 and Allied have fast-tracked it into production this year, while simultaneously undertaking aggressive exploration to expand the Resource. Elemental Altus owns a 3% NSR royalty on the first 226,000 ounces produced at Diba and an uncapped 2% NSR royalty on all subsequent production. The consideration also included multiple production-based milestones totalling up to US$6 million and for which the Company has received the first US$1 million with further payments anticipated this year. If you have any follow up questions for Fred regarding Elemental Altus Royalties, then please email me at Shad@kereport.com. In full disclosure, Shad is a shareholder of Elemental Altus Royalties at the time of this recording. Click here to view recent news on the Elemental Altus Royalties website

Interview with Randy Reichart, President and CEO of Skeena Resources Ltd.Our previous interview: https://www.cruxinvestor.com/posts/skeena-resources-ske-293m-annual-after-tax-free-cash-flow-2588Recording date: 20th November 2023High-Grade Past Producer Reimagined as Major Gold Operation with Robust EconomicsSkeena Resources has uncovered the rich potential of reinventing the formerly high-grade Eskay Creek mine in Canada into a prominently larger open pit operation. The company recently completed an enhanced Definitive Feasibility Study (DFS), optimized by its experienced leadership team, to develop a technically straightforward project producing over 450,000 low-cost gold-equivalent ounces per year. With an initial capital expenditure of C$592 million, Skeena emphasizes the attractiveness of Eskay Creek's rapid 1.2-year payback period. The after-tax economics are stellar, boasting a C$2 billion NPV at a 5% discount rate alongside a 43% internal rate of return over a 14-year mine life. Benchmarked against comparable development projects, these figures place Eskay Creek as an extremely lucrative asset. Its current valuation at just 0.2 times NPV represents a substantial underpricing.Skeena is led by a proven mine building team who have addressed prior concerns by simplifying the process plant design and mining methods. By enhancing metallurgical performance, they've also managed to achieve significantly higher concentrate grades while requiring far lower shipment volumes. Real optimizations like these increase operational efficiency as well as investor confidence. With the DFS results now released, Skeena is focused on securing financing over the next 6 to 12 months. The company is pursuing a funding package across various alternatives like equity, stream financing, and debt. Concurrent permitting activities are also underway on key items such as the Environmental Assessment, targeting receipt by mid-2025.If everything progresses smoothly, construction would commence in 2025 for an 18-month build period. This supports Skeena's goal of achieving first gold production in mid-2026. During the 3-4 month ramp-up phase to full capacity, the output is still anticipated to reach an impressive 230,000 ounces in the first year.Looking longer term, over the first 5 years of operation, Skeena is projecting a head-turning annual average production of 465,000 low-cost gold-equivalent ounces. This would immediately propel it into an intermediate producer tier amongst global gold miners.Eskay Creek's established infrastructure from past mining, extensive existing permits, and located in a top-tier mining jurisdiction in Canada check all the right boxes for investors. With gold prices forecasted to rise amidst inflationary pressures, the market conditions align strongly as well. For risk tolerant investors with a 3-5 year time horizon, getting in early on a world-class project like this, managed by a capable team and on the cusp of critical de-risking milestones, holds exciting asymmetrical upside potential. The market appears slow to currently price in the prospectively substantial value add if Skeena executes successfully on bringing this revived gold asset through development into production.View Skeena Resources company profile: https://www.cruxinvestor.com/companies/skeena-resourcesSign up for Crux Investor: https://cruxinvestor.com

Full-text: This next week is going to be a big week for Oregon's off-the-rails tolling projects. On Tuesday, the feds released their “Environmental Assessment” for the I-205 tolls. On Friday, a statewide toll advisory committee is meeting. Next Monday, a regional toll advisory committee is meeting. In the Environment Assessment, the Oregon Department of Transportation reveals some eye-popping numbers: Toll payments on just the I-205 project will be $132 million a year; and Households will pay an average of $575 a year in tolls. If you think this sounds like it's bad for the economy, you're right. ODOT projects the toll project will cause job losses, reduce labor income, and have close to zero effect on economic output. ODOT has finally shown its hand: Its I-205 tolling project will make the region noticeably worse off. It's one thing to collect $132 million a year in tolls to make life better, but it's an entirely different thing to impoverish families and stifle businesses with nothing to show for it. Now is the time for your voice to be heard. ODOT is seeking comments on its Environmental Assessment, and the Monday meeting has set aside time for public comment. Our policymakers need to hear from you. It'll be too late once the toll booths go up. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/coffeewithcascade/message

Corner Brook Pulp and Paper wants to cut wood in the area, located between the Northwest and Southwest Gander rivers. The provincial Department of Environment and Climate Change has released the company's plan from Environmental Assessment, but with conditions. Now, some Indigenous band members in Central Newfoundland say they are self-declaring Charlie's Place to be an "Indigenous Protected Conservation Area." Today, we read a statement from the environment department.

A dispute over land use in Central Newfoundland has pitted local people against Corner Brook Pulp and Paper, and the provincial government. The paper company wants to harvest wood in an area known locally as Charlie's Place. The province released the harvesting plans from Environmental Assessment -- subject to certain conditions. One condition is that the paper company has to engage with people who had submitted concerns about harvesting. Now, those very people worry that their concerns are being overlooked.
