A special mini episode, celebrating our interdependence. Listen as I share a reflection on what I call my "Buddhist-Born-Again moment." I finally learned what the Buddha taught. I finally saw that one of—if not THE most important foundations of Buddhist practice—is becoming aware of your inherent ignorance and the limitations of self. It is surprisingly freeing to realize that we are NOT really the masters of our destiny, because the choices we make about the thoughts we think and the actions we take are a product of a complex web of experiences, surroundings, and relationships—of which everyone else is a part. It is a seeming paradox that accepting our dependence on others can provide our ultimate freedom. In that humble, yet active acceptance we embrace what my late teacher, Rev. Koyo Kubose, expresses as “acceptance IS transcendence.” In doing so, we are declaring our interdependence. Happy Fourth of July! As we celebrate our independence, I invite you to reframe this holiday as more than just liberation from an oppressive regime. Even if we as a collective have survived this harsh experience, sometimes this oppressiveness gets recreated – especially in our relationships. We find ourselves in the same unhealthy patterns and dynamics with different people. In this episode, I invite you to reflect on our interconnectedness – how we treat the world and the people we meet affect everything around us. Tune in to this episode: Happy Interdependence Day! Key points covered in this episode: ✔️ Interdependence is an elevated way of approaching life. It's a necessary part of our survival and moves us closer to the truth of what's really going on. ✔️ Free yourself from limiting beliefs! What are the habitual patterns that you would like to change? This could be what is holding you back from imagining a better possibility for your life. ✔️ Consider how oppression shows up in your life. You could have liberated yourself from your family's oppressive conditioning but it reoccurs in your workplace or a spiritual community. ✔️ Be independent as you exist in the world. Being free involves interrogating all the different ways you're imprisoning yourself – in your thinking, conditioning, and societal expectations. What are some spots in your life that you want to be free from? Take the first step in showing up that honors yourself and others and create that space of freedom. ———————————————————————————————— ★★★ About Marie-Elizabeth Mali ★★★ Marie-Elizabeth is the founder of Relationship Alchemy, where she helps growth-oriented women develop clarity and alignment with themselves and their vision, so they can attract or deepen their relationship with their ideal partner and create a fulfilling life without compromising who they are. ★ TAKE THE “YOUR GROWN-ASS POWER” QUIZ ★ For passionate women having a “Now what?” moment who are ready to turn on their unapologetic power. http://relationshipalchemy.com/power-quiz As a Relationship Alchemist, two-time TEDx Speaker, and host of the Relationship Alchemy podcast, Marie-Elizabeth Mali helps women communicate more effectively and transform patterns of thinking and behavior that get in the way of love, connection, and success in relationships and business. July 4, 2021Unfortunately, God does not work through magic fairies. If this were the case, we would be absolved of moral responsibility. Instead, God has called us into relationships of mutual cooperation and interdependence. Reflecting on Jesus visit to his hometown and sending of the disciples in Mark 6, Pastor Rob reflects on the various interdependent relationships: Us and God; Us and each other; Us and the stranger.Pastor Rob closes with a reflection on how we might be blessed as a nation to consider July 4 Interdependence Day, not Independence Day.

The 4th July is Independence Day in the USA. In this sermon, Lex recommends we go one step further and celebrate Interdependence Day. The natural path to maturity is from dependence as a child through to independence as an adult. However, to build anything significant we need to learn the power of the tribe, the team, the congregation where we celebrate and rely upon gifts that differ and complement one another from member to member. This is the dominant message of The Body of Christ metaphor used by St Paul. You have a unique part to play. Your gifts, abilities, and talents are a once-in-Eternity manifestation of who you alone can be at this moment in time. Only you can change history in the way that you can. If we begin there, and then find others with unique callings, gifts, and talents - others who share our values and our mission - anything is possible. The call to action is first to seek God to clarify the role you must play as part of The Body of Christ. Secondly, to answer the simple call to ministry: to feed the hungry, give drink to the thirsty, clothe the naked, house the homeless, and to visit those who are sick or in prison. What we do to them, we do to Christ. To take a really positive first step, try this link:fivefoldministry.com/static/learn-a…-fold-ministry and click on [Begin Test] at the top right of the page.BONUSIf you'd like to watch this podcast put to pictures, the video is here:https://youtu.be/yBekQKTa_1o

On this past weekend from the 4th of July, I reflected a lot on Freedom - the ultimate pursuit for many. I recount how Independence Day changed in meaning to me and my family to become Interdependence Day. I call on all of you to reflect on how the ego coopts our accomplishments meant to bring us freedom and uses it to “imprison” us. Join in and learn why we can become prisoners of our own minds and how inquiry can regain mental freedom which fuels great leadership.

In our annual Interdependence Day worship - on the Sunday nearest the 4th - we again expose the lie of supposed independence, and instead claim the joy of justly-ordered mutual dependence and collective liberation! Willie James Jennings's fiery, faithful commentary is our conversation partner as we engage the imprisoned Jesus-followers in the Book of Acts. We know that God's deepest desire is for the shaking of every prison foundation, the liberation of each imagination, and the release of every captive - on both sides of the prison bars. It's deeply impacting to consider, on July 4th, 2020, how relevant is Frederick Douglass' speech delivered to The Rochester Ladies' Abolition Society Independence Day event on July 5th, 1852. Here we will explore that relevance by listening to THAT speech interspersed with protest and movement songs from the 1940s through July, 2020. We who believe in freedom will not rest. -G

We are born as Dependents, relying on others to meet our most basic needs. In the early stages of maturity, we become Independent (we are self-sufficient and productive in our own right). However, independence is not the gold standard of adulthood. -Stephen Covey. Covey points out that human beings are Interdependent by nature. We need to establish mutually beneficial relationships to achieve an end goal that is greater than that achieved independently. By Janae Jean and Spencer Schluter For this month’s interview, we had the pleasure to share in conversation with author Megan Griswold. For many, July 4 is a day for brass bands and bombs symbolically bursting in air. For others, grown up in the shadows from Vietnam to Iraq, it’s hard to embrace a rah-rah patriotism. What’s a patriotism for religious liberals, which holds America to her dreams without looking away from her nightmares? When religious and political fundamentalisms try to hijack America’s symbols, from Old Glory to the Constitution, how do we recapture the flag? Steve Brooks, professional singer/songwriter and charter member of Austin’s Wildflower Unitarian Universalist Church, who has been described as a “poet, protester, songwriter, activist, political satirist, and humorist”, brings his special blend of music and storytelling to SMUUF. A favorite in Austin folk clubs, at the Kerrville Folk Festival, and in UU pulpits, Steve preaches that we can change the world when we look at it from a different perspective, or as he poetically puts it - “A single new star rearranges a whole constellation.”

This week in the United States we celebrate independence. There are so many beautiful things about independence. And yet, like all things, it can go too far. Too much independence leads to an illusion that we are alone in the world, and have accomplished what we have all on our own. At Mindfulness+ we celebrate Interdependence Day, a Buddhist-inspired practice that invokes a sense of gratitude and humility for all the conditions that sustain and support us.

Dharma Insight | Insight Meditation Community of Charlottesville
Teresa Miller gave this dharma talk on Jul 4, 2017 at the Insight Meditation Community of Charlottesville. We celebrate July 4th in the USA with words and symbols that express philosophical values of democracy and equality. Yet we are aware of explicit and implicit bias, a transparent disparity and inequity, that creates harm in our selves, our community, the world. In the face of suffering, how do we remember, and embody, our interdependence, in order to respond wisely and kindly? For more information, please visit: imeditation.org
Why is it so hard to find relationships that are truly reciprocal? Why are so many relationships lopsided...where one person does all or most of the giving and the other person does all or most of the taking? In this message, Max Vanderpool talks about an important concept that's needed in EVERY healthy relationship, one that's rooted in the doctrine of the Trinity.
