Imam Asim Hafiz, the first Muslim chaplain to the British Armed Forces and an Islamic advisor for the Ministry of Defence, who has been working with the armed forces since 2004 discusses the many changes which have seen attitudes towards his role shifting according to the political climate and Mandeep Kaur, who was appointed as the first and only Sikh Chaplain for the entire British Armed Forces, reflects on why the idea of military chaplaincy may seem like a difficult job to take on and the impact of the role within faith communities. There are approximately 260 regular and 58 reserve chaplains across the armed forces. They serve personnel dealing with the pressures of being away from home, working in hostile environments and dealing with life and death decisions. How has the service evolved to support the broad range of beliefs represented in the armed forces? And how can religious belief really be balanced with the very real possibility of military action leading to loss of life? To discuss Giles is joined by Roger Hutton, President of Defence Humanists and former Ministry of Defence Director International Security, Dr. Sunil Kariyakarawana, the first Buddhist Chaplain to the British Armed Forces, and the Revd Joanna Jepson, an Anglican priest and a Chaplain to the British Army.Producers: Alexa Good and Linda Walker Editors: Tim Pemberton and Chloe Walker

In this interview we talk about what makes a good teacher, how to continue to evolve as teachers and what we can learn from the Buddhist principle of Threefold Logic: working with the ground, the path and the fruition. Cyndi recently became a formally trained Buddhist Chaplain under the guidance of Roshi Joan Halifax and much of her work there centers around using yoga and meditation as resiliency practices. We talked about what it's like to find refuge in our bodies, no matter the circumstances, and how we can offer that kind of teaching to our students. In this episode we also talked about: how some teaching principles are universal, no matter what you are teaching Cyndi gives some advice for teachers who want to deepen their teaching skills what it takes to have confidence in your teaching having a growth mindset vs a fixed mindset taking refuge in a body that has a lot of pain  Trainings, Retreats and Online Workshops with Cyndi: Cyndi's WebsiteVery Special Teachers Retreat in New MexicoOnline Restorative Teacher TrainingMeditation Teacher Training coming summer 2018

This week we’re joined by Reverend Danny Fisher–a Buddhist Chaplain and author. Danny shares with us his reasons for becoming chaplain, where the notion of chaplaincy or service to others comes from in the Buddhist tradition, and what it’s like to undertake a Buddhist-based divinity program. In the 2nd half of our conversation we ask him about his take on the challenges and opportunities that young Buddhists encounter. Being an emerging voice for young Buddhists, and a popular Buddhist blogger, Danny shares with us some of his thoughts on what it’s like being a young Buddhist today. Be unique, but not too much; be outgoing and shine, but not so bright that other people would feel badly about themselves. Don't rock the boat.  Don't really tell the truth.  Avoid being vulnerable. I struggled.  I thought I could do it all myself.  I was an island, unwilling to trust, unwilling to be vulnerable.  Unwilling to do what needed to be done to see my visions come to pass. The fear doesn't go away.  The doubts, they still come.  http://www.krisprochaska.com
