During their trip to Kentucky, our hosts sat down with Lu Young, Jason Glass, Justin Bathon and Caleb Bates, of Kentucky's United We Learn Coalition. This group is building a vision for the future of public education in Kentucky, with the goal of everyone in the commonwealth – educators, families, students, community members and business leaders – working together to support public schools in bringing about deep and authentic learning experiences for all students. As Rod and Jal spoke with the team, the following themes emerged: the importance of who is at the table when building a coalition around education reform; connecting past and present policies through grassroots initiatives; building common ground among all stakeholders to overcome the political polarity; the incredible value of the student perspective being deeply involved in the process; how the expectations of colleges and universities have driven education design; and whether designing K-12 education to get students to elite universities is even the best approach. No lightning round, but a small tangent focused on the Kentucky delicacies of mac and cheese and bourbon is sure to entertain. Check out the full United We Learn report.Questions? Thoughts? After 22 years in the industry, Mortgage Broker/Owner Jason Glass has finally decided to stop overthinking and take action. Instead of waiting for the perfect situation or over-analyzing every little detail, Jason has decided to take the time to invest in himself and his business with a growth-first mindset, all by being his true authentic self. Not too long ago, Jason would dress up in a suit and tie and try to be a salesman, but that just doesn't cut it, and it just wasn't Jason being Jason. “You have to be yourself,” he shares. You can't just bank on speed and rate anymore. You have to set yourself apart. Jason believes that our true authentic personalities are the only unique commodity we all have and we have to utilize ourselves for everything we're worth. There is only one YOU so be yourself.  Growth is top of mind these days for Jason. Having hired a new LO with a grow-first mentality, Jason has shifted focus from outward selling to inward growing. Jason has stopped wasting time on overthinking and instead, is just doing. His most monumental change has been switching from Calyx to Arive. Jason has been running his pipeline the same way for two decades and understands that change is hard and nothing is ever going to be 100% perfect, but Jason compares the switch over to Arive as switching from a rotary phone to an iPhone 13. You might not have missed a single call on that rotary phone, but the doors that new technology can open for your brokerage are indispensable. As a part of his parting advice, Jason shares that he doesn't believe that mortgage brokers are going to be completely replaced by technology, but they should use technology to speed up and better their processes and procedures. He also makes sure to note that referral relationships are just that, relationships. You can't treat them as dispensable numbers or transactions. Real Estate Agents and client referrals are all people with wants and needs and families. Get to know them. Create an actual relationship with them and success is sure to follow, for everyone.  NOTES: (2:49) Intro To The Wholesale Channel(15:30) Importance of Authenticity (31:17) “Just Do It” Mindset(35:45) Parting Advice This Episode Is Sponsored By Homebot

In this episode, I connect with Dr. Jason Glass.  Dr. Glass is currently wrapping up his role as the Superintendent of Jefferson County Public Schools, the second largest school district in Colorado.  He will soon be serving as the Commissioner of Education with the Kentucky Department of Education. In our conversation, Dr. Glass discusses how his philosophies on what schools should focus on have evolved from one centered on measurement and accountability to one of transforming the student experience to better prepare our youth for a continually evolving and globally interconnected society.  He explains why he made Deeper Learning the central initiative for Jefferson County during his time with them and how he hopes to continue this focus in his new role as quickly as possible once our current societal challenges subside.  He also shares how there's a lot of agreement around the fact that deeper learning should be the focus, but the bigger challenge is seeing more tangible examples of what this could look like in contrast to our existing system. Dr. Glass is a visionary and innovative leader.  The state of Kentucky is tremendously lucky to have scored such a forward-thinking educator.  Thank you for tuning in to our conversation.

Now, I have been a fan of this guy for probably 25 years at least it seems like. I mean, the first time, uh, I came down here with, uh, Sheldon Kennedy and I mean, things were a lot different back then, man. Like, I think we drove up in the Envoy and, uh, uh, they let us park arrayed on the Gates. Uh. I'm just wondering how our things changed since that has changed a lot. You know, I've been here for 48 years since I was born, and, uh, you know, it's a, it's a whole different world back here. It's a, you know, it's a lot more of a business. Um, you know, everyone used to have, I would say everyone still has fun,but it's, uh, it's not the party. It used to be. You know, we put a lot of time and effort and money into race and wagons and, uh, taking care of horses as best we can. So it's changed a bunch. I think that both of us have grown up a little bit more, you than me, for sure. You got the wife and the lovely kids twins too, as well. Yeah. No, things have changed in my life too. I've got way more control over my life and, uh, you know, I've got a great family, uh, two twins that are eight years old and the beautiful wife. Brianne, so it's a, I live in a beautiful world. No, absolutely. I mean, like I said, the good old days, there was big campfires down here.

On this week's episode of the Healthy Wealthy and Smart podcast, I welcomed Jason Glass to edutain, or educate through entertainment, on his rotational power training philosophy. Jason is one of the world’s top Golf Strength and Conditioning Specialists and owns and operates Tour Performance Lab and Kinetica Golf Performance in Vancouver, British Columbia. He specializes in training rotary athletes, biomechanics, physical assessments and functional strength training. In this episode, we discuss: -Does rotational power only equate to explosive movement? -Why Jason finds that his job is 80% psychological for better client-coach relationships -Is functional training dependent on individual performance demands? -Why Jason dropped his book and picked up a microphone -And much more! Coach Glass shared so many great pieces of advice especially on how developing relationships with his athletes was the difference maker in his career. Jason begins his assessment by asking the questions, “What would you like me to do for you? Why is that important to you? What are your strategies for this? Do you have the capacity or capabilities to do what you want to do? Do you have the skill set? You have the ambition; let's start with what you have.”   Jason also stresses the importance of aligning your training goals with your clients by, “Find[ing] their vulnerability, their fear. Can we take care of what we need to do and address their fears at the same time?”   Jason is a proponent for managing the psychological aspect of his training and not just focusing on his kinesiology expertise, "This is a human being that I'm training. If I can't communicate with the human being element and tell them this is why this is important… If they don't buy in, there will be no change."   Jason left us with these parting words that really resonated with me, “Dream big, over deliver, be undeniable." He reminds us to always stay true to yourself, do what makes you excited, do it well and you will be able to reach your goals!
