What should inventors do first? Can you get started as an inventor without spending a lot of money? Yes you can! In fact inventors should NOT spend a lot of money on an invention idea right away! You need to kick the tires on your product idea first, and then test the market. There are cheaper and much more expensive ways of doing this. In this video, product licensing expert Stephen Key interviews Carmine Denisco of Inventors Launchpad, which helps inventors invent, design, prototype, innovate, invest, patent, manufacture, and market. https://inventorslaunchpad.com/ https://www.linkedin.com/in/cdenisco/ Stephen Key and Andrew Krauss are the world's leading experts on how to license a product idea. Meet Jim   Jim DeBetta’s product development and sales experience has amassed millions of dollars within the retail selling world. Known nationally as a trusted coach and mentor to thousands of inventors and entrepreneurs, he knows how to take new ideas from a sketch on a napkin to selling the final product to major retailers worldwide. Jim’s career in retail began at an early age with the family business – a fireplace and home hardware company. After graduating from college, Jim went home to help expand the business from a small successful operation into a multi-million dollar business and became one of the most recognized and respected store of its kind on Long Island. Jim stimulated new business, purchased products from all over the world, and ran the overall daily operations. Jim decided it was time to grow and joined a start up firm that imported binoculars, telescopes, and optical products for children. His retail customers included a “who’s who” in retail such as Target, Wal-Mart, Radio Shack, Sears, Michael’s, Cabelas, Home Shopping Network, Bed, Bath & Beyond, Discovery Channel Stores, Costco, and many others. Jim employed nearly 20 people inside and had dozens of sales reps all over the US, Canada, and Europe. Ultimately, Jim helped expand the company from virtually no significant revenue to a leading brand in the industry that has sold more than 50 million dollars of product since the mid 1990′s. When Jim was ready for a new adventure, he left the company as President and Chief Operating Officer. Jim decided he was ready for yet a bigger challenge and joined a leading premium incentive company as their National Key Accounts Manager. Jim represented major national brands for this $100 million a year premium incentive firm such as Toshiba, Sony, Nikon, Nautilus, Movado and others. The products were used to create various incentive programs for fortune 1,000 companies around the world. Jim’s experience has reached far and wide working with various products, retailers, manufactures, and factories. He knew it was time to help those that had a product in mind or ready for production. His goal was to teach others the process without unnecessary expense, time and red tape. That is how DeCavi Corp was born. As the founder of DeCavi Corp, Jim has helped thousands of inventors and start-ups learn how to get their products developed and sold to major retailers. Jim then merged his firm with the renowned Slingshot Product Development Group which employs a team of 35 engineers, designers, and marketing experts who help individual inventors and Fortune 500 firms alike. Both are recognized as leaders in the inventor product development and commercialization arena. Today, Jim continues to broaden his reach into the world of consumer products and has formed DeBetta Enterprises which is a private consultancy that coaches and advises inventors and entrepreneurs on everything from manufacturing to sales and marketing of consumer products. Jim also heads up the Retail Distribution arm of Kevin Harrington’s TV Goods corporation which today is fueled by the hit ABC reality show Shark Tank.   Kevin Mako is the Founder and President of MAKO Design + Invent, a 25-person invention development firm with offices in Toronto, Austin, and the UK. His entrepreneurial spirit was ignited during his early teenage years when he started several ultra-small businesses that built a wealth of knowledge and experience for his eventual life passion, MAKO Design + Invent. While attending one of the top business schools in North America, the Richard Ivey School of Business, Kevin incorporated MAKO in his third year at just 22 years old. Graduating as Section Class President with an additional specialization in Entrepreneurship, Kevin continued his education at the University of Hong Kong studying manufacturing and supply chain management.   MAKO Design + Invent was the first firm in North America to offer full-service professional physical consumer product development services to start-ups, and is now the largest firm in the industry in both Canada and Texas. The company provides home inventors and product developers with end-to-end consumer product development services that turn invention ideas into successful businesses. MAKO is tremendously proud to be completely grassroots and organically built with zero financing, debt, or investors. While most of Kevin’s time is spent growing the firm, Kevin also spends a great deal of time progressing the product development industry as a whole through guest speaking engagements, building robust strategic partnerships, and advancing the development of entrepreneurship through initiatives such as The Industrial Design Guild, Inventors Meetups, and the MAKO Student Innovation Awards at Ryerson.   Sitting on the Board of Trustees for Lakefield College School, a Board Member of the Brookfield Institute for Entrepreneurship, an Advisor for Next Canada, and recipient of the Duke of Edinburgh’s Gold Award, Kevin has been recognized as a standup member of the industry for his community involvement and outreach. For his industry impact, outstanding leadership and rapid business development, MAKO Invent was named one of the best companies in the US in 2016 by Entrepreneur Magazine and made the Inc5000 Fastest Growing Companies in America list.  MAKO was given the award for Best Industrial Design by Creativepool in 2018, as well as named to the prestigious Entrepreneur 360 list, and named Best Product Design Firm in North America for 2019 by LUX Life Magazine.   Kevin is also the Founder of the Generation Fund, a registered charity focused on funding university placements for top high school students in financial need. As a strong believer in developing an entrepreneurial spirit, Kevin also personally finances and invests in small businesses and start-ups primarily in the professional services industries. He finds people who excel at a single skill, then through both financing and one-on-one mentoring, helps them develop their own businesses capitalizing on that talent. His budding partnership with Shark Tank’s Robert Herjevac and Avenger’s Colbie Smulders started with Frito-Lay’s Dreamvention competition. This is a competition where families across North America enter an invention idea to win their invention idea being brought to life and a whopping grand prize of $250,000. Thanks to Kevin and MAKO Design, MAKO has changed the lives of young inventors and their families two years in a row and counting!   During his spare time, Kevin enjoys playing competitive squash and hockey year-round. During the summer months, Kevin spends his weekends exploring the outdoors. As someone with an unquenchable thirst for knowledge, Kevin actively learns something new every few months which has included playing a variety of instruments, flying planes, and studying philosophy. His company MAKO recently opened up a new office in the booming Design District of Miami, Florida. Exciting times ahead! She loves business law because she gets to learn about businesses and industries she never would have learned about otherwise, and by doing so is able to help other entrepreneurs fulfill their own dreams. Galia is a born entrepreneur, and loves the thrill of growing her own business as much as she loves helping others grow their own. Galia is a published author on intellectual property issues surrounding moral rights, and regularly speaks throughout California on a variety of legal and business issues for both lawyers and other entrepreneurs. One of her favorite things about practicing law is the collaborative process of educating people about business and the law so they’re empowered to succeed by preventing problems before they happen. Galia graduated from Tulane University School of Law with a certificate in environmental law and a sub-focus on intellectual property, and she currently has licenses to practice law in both California and Louisiana. Prior to founding ABL, Galia was a founding partner of a Bay Area-based multi-lawyer business law firm, practiced law at private law firms in both New Orleans and Oakland, and worked as a business development attorney at a large legal publisher in Northern California. She’s also done stints as a professional proofreader/editor and a dogsitter, but the latter was mostly just an excuse to hang out with other people’s dogs. When not working, she can be found coffee-shop hopping, reading, taking long walks with her fiancé, Mike, or collecting hobbies. A few of her favorite hobbies so far include belly dancing, glass flameworking, and tai chi. The Inventors Launchpad Network – Is proud to present Go Big, Go Bold, Co-Hosted by J.D.
