Rylee is curious about the current state of our planet, so he asks DY Science teacher, Ms. Lederer.
In this episode, Verena Gründel talks to Andrea Lederer, Chief Digital Officer at Weleda, the iconic natural cosmetics brand loved by Bella Hadid. Andrea shares her journey of digitally transforming a 105-year-old heritage company, building e-commerce structures from the ground up, and aligning digital goals with brand values like premiumization and sustainability. They discuss how Andrea restructured teams, harmonized global data, launched new digital campaigns, and what it takes to move fast without losing sight of brand identity. 5 Data-Driven Takeaways from the Podcast: When Andrea joined, the digital team was "somewhere in marketing" — not linked to sales or customers. Reporting systems were disconnected. “As global CDO, I couldn't even tell you how much we were selling digitally,” she says. That changed fast. She aligned her strategy with Weleda's four corporate goals: internationalization, digitization, premiumization, and product innovation. “We asked: what role does digital play in each? Then we translated it into team and individual goals,” Andrea explains. She also brought in structure. “We clarified roles, cleaned up CRM, launched paid media, and set pricing rules.” Quick wins like Prime Day campaigns and social media boosts delivered instant ROI without compromising brand positioning. For more than 160 years, Stars and Stripes has walked a razor-thin line: serving the U.S. military while holding it accountable. Publisher Max Lederer says that balance remains as vital — and as fragile — as ever, noting that "our staff are paid by the Department of Defense" even as the newsroom is mandated to stay "balanced, objective, independent and impartial." Today, new Pentagon access rules, collapsing trust in media, and seismic digital shifts are putting that independence to the test. Lederer argues the mission endures because "we are dedicated to telling the story of the U.S. military community… from within the Department of Defense," a position no other newsroom occupies. Combining cinematographic expertise with a journalist's instinct, she crafts stories that are both emotionally resonant and visually compelling. After years living and working in Santa Monica, she now calls Portland, Oregon home. Carrie returns to her documentary roots with Wild Horses at the Door, her directorial debut in the short film category.
In this special Redfish Film Festival episode of VIE Speaks, host and VIE editor-in-chief Lisa Marie Burwell sits down with documentary filmmaker Carrie Lederer to discuss her recent film, Wild Horses at the Door. As part of the Redfish Film Fest 2025 lineup, this movie brought the heartfelt and harrowing story of John Wayne Smith to the screen. Thank you, Carrie, for sharing this story and being a guest on VIE Speaks! About Wild Horses at the Door Coloradoan John Wayne Smith was homeless for eight years, working through recovery, when he resettled himself off-grid on a high desert mesa where wild horses roamed. A wounded pregnant mare showed up at his door, and John nursed her back to health, later delivering her foal, which he affectionately named Blizzard. The profound bond set into motion an unexpected healing journey into the wonderful world of wild horses. Four years later, we meet John, who coexists with several bands of mustangs that he has come to know intimately in a way few people have experienced. Living with a hundred wild horses and a mule has given him an alternative path versus a system that he felt was not serving him; however, living the life of a rugged individualist alone on a mesa presents its own set of challenges, even for someone named after tough guy John Wayne. John also eventually realizes that the resource scarcity he was familiar with when he was homeless may threaten his beloved mustangs. Disability Series, #4 of 4. The Tuskegee Syphilis Study was an ethically problematic, to say the least, medical research project conducted in Alabama. Officially titled “The Effects of Untreated Syphilis in the Negro Male,” this government-sponsored research project was conducted by the United States Public Health Service in Macon County, Alabama, between 1932 and 1972. For four decades, researchers observed the progression of untreated syphilis in approximately 399 African American men without their informed consent. Many of the men thought they were being treated for “bad blood,” which had a variety of connotations. They were not aware that they were being actively blocked from receiving effective treatment, even after penicillin became the recognized standard of care for syphilis in the 1940s. Rather than viewing the study as an isolated event, we'll see how the Tuskegee study fits into a broader framework of American medical and disability history and racial discrimination.

It was an absolute pleasure to feature Eric Lederer for this episode of Seek Travel Ride and have him share his story and experiences of bicycle touring over 11,000km across North America. Eric started in LA and called the ride Operation Fish mMarket - named after the dive bar which he would end his ride at in New York City. Some common themes which came out during this discussion was centred around Eric putting his career on hold to take this journey. We talked about what it's like to put life on pause, and also the spirit of planning an adventure like this. To just trust that things will work out and not needing to wait for everything to be perfect to start.Eric also mentioned that three things were his focus for the ride - the beauty of national parks and nature, meeting family and friends along the route, and RAGBRAI! The latter did not dissapoint. As with many other bicycle travellers, Eric couldn't speak more fondly of the kindness of strangers who he met on the roadside. He especially recalled an encounter with the infamous Frank Sanders from Devil's Tower. We mentioned the documentary featuring Frank during the interview and you can check it out for yourself here: Frank Sander's Documentary Eric's story definitely goes to show that it is ok to take breaks from the societal norms and seek out adventure which will broaden our horizon and perspectives. To read more about Eric's Operation Fish Market ride you can check out his blog NEW! - Leave a Voice Message! Karen Lederer received her BFA in Printmaking and Drawing from Washington University in St. Louis in 2008 and an MFA in Printmaking from Rhode Island School of Design in 2012. She has been an artist in residence at Robert Blackburn Printmaking Workshop, Lower East Side Printshop, and the Sharpe-Walentas Studio Program. Lederer has presented her work in solo exhibitions at Morgan Lehman Gallery, Cheymore Gallery, One River School, Guilford College Art Gallery, Tennis Elbow at The Journal Gallery, Grant Wahlquist Gallery, and Field Projects. She has participated in many group exhibitions, most recently at Morgan Lehman Gallery, Deanna Evans Projects, Dinner Gallery, Cristea Roberts Gallery, and Hashimoto Contemporary. “Trained to be a printmaker, Karen Lederer brings monoprinting techniques into a contemporary painting practice. She offsets inked plates onto the surface of her artwork and then defines the rest of the image with paint. Both flat and rendered, the work conveys a spatial disorientation that denies stability. By mixing diverse processes in each piece, she creates environments that are at once constructed and artificial, yet private and personal. Lederer invites the viewer into domestic scenes filled with patterns, color and references to her life and art history. In a moment where people live simultaneously in the physical world and online, her paintings evoke the strange filter through which we see much of our reality.” LINKS: www.karenlederer.com @krlederer I Like Your Work Links: Apply to our Winter Exhibition Catalog: https://www.ilikeyourworkpodcast.com/submitwork Join the Works Membership ! https://theworksmembership.com/ Watch our Youtube channel: https://www.youtube.com/@ilikeyourworkpodcast Submit Your Work Check out our Catalogs! Brett is a Long Beach State alum, and spent 12 years playing on the PGA Tour and mini tours before he found his passion in helping some of his fellow tour players with their own golf games. A phone call from his former coach and mentor, Jamie Mulligan, now a Tour Coach for Patrick Cantlay, and the Korda Sisters, asked if he wanted to come teach at Virginia Country Club. That phone call created a smooth transition from playing to teaching in which he's now made a name for himself, with his player, Lilia Vu, coming from behind to capture her first LPGA Tour Major at the Chevron Championship last week.Hear stories from Brett, advice to players and instructors, coaching tour players, and just some great conversations with Brett on episode 27 of the Coach Mo Golf Show.@leftysgolftips@vcc1909Contact Coach Mo@coachmogolfprowww.coachmogolfpro.commgesualdi@stjohnsgolf.comThe Golf Academy at St. Johns Located at St. Johns Golf & CC in St. Augustine/St. Johns, FL@thegolfacademy_st.johnswww.stjohnsgolf.com
