[7:24] His experience has shown that it is most effective to focus on the benefits of the product to the end user that you are trying to market to. [9:52] The difference between brand advertising and brand response is that there’s always some type of offer where you’re asking people to respond. You have to put out a promotion that gives them a reason to respond. [11:24] These concepts can be applied to service-based products as well, not just physical products. You can do this through authentic testimonials of happy customers. [18:20] There are some marketing basics Rick likes to implement such as starting and ending each ad with a brand logo. Also, advertising giveaways can help drive people towards your products. [20:17] Tactics for reaching and targeting consumers has changed somewhat over the years. While you can still reach a mass-audience through DTC marketing, there are many mediums that are cheaper and effective to reach directly to consumers. [22:45] The key to building any brand is finding your unique selling proposition and pushing it toward your audience. [24:04] Offering a very liberal money-back guarantee to get someone to try your product or service is a great way to grab the attention of your consumers. [26:12] The priority and lifeblood of any business is sales. Focusing on how you can get sales in the door will build your brand as your business is growing. [29:24] Most of your company’s branding happens after the sale which is formed based on the customer experience. Real Estate is one of the few businesses who started using television as a medium of marketing to promote their business. He is considered as a pioneer of infomercial industry. In 1990, Rick Cesari started his own company, Juiceman Juicer, along with his brother. Juiceman Juicer was one of the first products and brands to be sold and built through infomercial format. It was later on sold to a company in Chicago called Salton Housewares which later on came up with the product George Foreman Grill. What is the secret to Video Marketing? - Understanding the direct response marketing and principles. It is not only about making videos that are shown on the internet or television but these videos should generate more revenue, sell more products, grow your business and create a good reputation brand. Topic III: 4 steps in Creating a Good Marketing Video (effective for television and e-commerce channels such as Amazon) Introduce your Product Demonstrate your Product Focus more on the Benefits of the product rather than its features (if possible include product reviews and testimonials) Always have a call to action: Instructing viewers to go to their website and check out their products and BUY them! These steps are similar to AIDA (Awareness, Interest, Desire and Action) Marketing Model. Topic IV: 2 Negative Practices of most Companies: Most companies forget that the most powerful marketing tool is the "Word of Mouth" of customers or product testimonials in other words. Companies fail to ask for product reviews of the direct consumers Most companies fail to include a call to action in their marketing videos. For example, they don't tell their viewers to visit their website, check out their products or any stimulants that will generate product revenue. A book called Influence: The Psychology of Persuasion by Robert Cialdini, is a great book that talks about 6 persuasion principles that will guide Companies in creating marketing videos. One principle that is very helpful is Social Proof- a priniciple wherein we used the action of others to decide proper behavior for ourselves. In the concept of Product reviews and testimonies in E-commerce such as Amazon, for example, most people are gonna buy the product of 100 reviews over a product with 2 reviews. It is very vital to get product reviews and testimonials to appeal to more people. Topic V: Video Persuasion, The Book One of the things this book offers is 3 ways to "hook" the viewer and keep them engaged.

On this episode, our guest has a few ideas to help you use video marketing to increase sales. Rick Cesari has been a pioneer in the Direct Response advertising industry since the early ‘90s and has used Brand Response strategies to help build many iconic brands from scratch, including Juiceman, Sonicare, The George Foreman Grill, OxiClean, Clarisonic, Rug Doctor, Momentus Golf and many others. Rick has helped take companies like GoPro from a start-up to over a billion dollars in sales in just a few short years. About Rick Cesari Rick studied biology and was going to be a dentist, but he got tired of school. He moved to Florida, read lots of books about real estate, and went to a seminar to learn how to invest in distressed properties and make a profit. He made $12,000 in a few days. He was so excited about his investment, he went to the editors of Florida Trend, a business magazine, and told them about the seminar. The article about the speaker was instrumental in growing his seminar business, so Rick was asked to help with his marketing. It was the beginning of his highly successful marketing career. Brand Response Strategies Rick says the key to being good at direct response marketing is understanding what makes the consumer respond. He uses a formula from Dale Carnegie’s book, “How to Win Friends and Influence People.” Tell the audience what you are going to say, say it and then tell them what you said. Rick adds that making videos is a lot like making speeches. You must capture the audience’s attention at the start, or they will continue clicking through the channels. Another formula that Rick uses is called AIDA. The acronym stands for A - capture the person’s Attention I - build Interest D - arouse Desire A - motivate the person to take Action Infomercials often seem repetitive and they are. Using Dale Carnegie’s formula, you say what you are going to say, say it and tell the audience again what you said. They must also solve a problem. Rick says if you cast a wide net with video that visually demonstrates different ways to solve the problem with your product, you will hook the consumer who has that problem in. Your product should have a unique selling proposition and a history of past product sales before considering direct response marketing. You also need a call-to-action at the end so the consumer can respond. Video Persuasion All of these tips and much more are included in Rick’s new book, Video Persuasion,” which is being released on Amazon on Oct. 15, 2019. At the end of each chapter, Rick includes interviews with industry experts that include great insights about video and video marketing. Here are just a few: The messaging is more important than the technical look or quality of a video. Apps like Rev.com allow you to inexpensively transcribe interviews, which is very helpful in the editing process. Make video tutorials for every product or service you sell. Add infographics with pictures listing all the benefits of your product. Have good audio. You can buy a good mic for less than $100. Lighting is also important. It will take your video to the next step. Authenticity is more critical than slickly-produced videos on social platforms. Rick also includes about 10 apps in his book that will save you money and help you with video production. Apps like Lumen 5 and Content Samurai are just a couple examples of Apps that can help you create video. [6:32] The first tactic is what Rick calls “always upsell,” which may seem obvious, but is often overlooked when people are faced with customers. [8:12] Josh chimes in that the easiest way to make a sale is to go to people who have already purchased. [9:55] For the second tip, Rick suggests it’s important to learn from other people’s experiences, specifically through books published by people who have achieved the success you want to see. [12:05] Tactic three covers the “Blue Ocean” strategy, which is one that Josh used himself when developing his law practice. [14:56] “If you try to please everybody, you end up pleasing no one.” [15:38] Josh introduces tip four as “the number one rule in sales.” [17:45] Tactic five covers the concept of educating your consumer, which is something Rick really focuses on when launching a new product or service. [21:16] The sixth tactic is establishing credibility with your target audience, the underlying reason for which is being people will always be skeptical of advertising until you give them a reason to trust you. [24:05] Tip seven, using key opinion leaders and influencers, goes hand in hand with the sixth tactic as it is a great way to help establish the credibility of your business. [24:13] Josh notes that tip eight, knowing your customer, is one of the most important things a business owner can do. [25:09] One of the first things Rick does with new clients is set up interviews with proven clientele that usually ends up being testimonial collateral for their business. [26:14] A timeless strategy Rick has employed over the years, which is his tenth tip is having powerful before and after demonstrations. This stems from Rick’s background of using direct response television ads. While you can still reach a mass-audience through DTC marketing, there are many mediums that are cheaper and effective to reach directly to consumers. [21:51] The key to building any brand is finding your unique selling proposition and pushing it toward your audience.
