In this episode I'm joined by Jay W. Richards, Ph.D. to talk about “climate change.” We are both skeptical about the claims that man is causing abnormal changes in the climate, mainly by adding CO₂ to the atmosphere, and that we need a political solution - fast! - to somehow arrest the spread of this toxic combination of molecules. We're even more skeptical that the solution is for governments or the UN coerce us do it, and along the way essentially shut down the modern economy. There are a lot of breathless claims being made. Bryan Moynihan, the CEO of Bank of America and a regular fixture at the World Economic Forum, directed his bank to produce a Global Research Report which claims the consequences of climate change will be dire and extreme. “This is the last decade to act,” they write. “Absolute water scarcity is likely for 1.8 billion people, 100 million face poverty, and 800 million are at risk from rising sea levels by 2025. Climate migration could reach 143 million from emerging markets, driven by extreme weather.” The amount of investment required they estimate to fully decarbonize the world? “$150 trillion over the next 30 years.” Before we get out our checkbook, here are some of the questions Jay and I believe demand an answer: Is the Earth warming in any meaningful way? If the Earth is warming, are we causing it? If Earth is warming, and we're causing it, is that bad? If the Earth is warming, and we're causing it, and that's bad, would any of the solutions being proposed make a difference? Jay Richards is the Director, Richard and Helen DeVos Center for Life, Religion, and Family at the Heritage Foundation, Executive Editor of The Stream, and a Senior Fellow at the Discovery Institute. He is author or editor of many New York Times bestsellers and the soon to be released Fight the Good Fight: How an Alliance of Faith and Reason Can Win the Culture War (with James Robison) “Are climate change concerns based on real scientific evidence and study and careful consideration,” asks Jay “or is this an ideology? Every ideology in the modern world seems to claim that it's based on science, because “science” has become the keeper of the public domain. In the Middle Ages, it would've been the church and the clerics. Now it's Science, so everyone from Karl Marx to the President wants to appeal to science for their ideology. And so it is with climate.” The IPCC (the United Nations' Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change) produces dozens of different computer climate models predicting a climate apocalypse. The problem is that they are in significant disagreement with each other. And not only have they not made accurate predictions, they can't explain the history of the earth's climate for the last hundred years. And they don't encompass some basic essentials. For example, missing from virtually all of these computer programs are the effect of clouds. Al Gore's movie assumed a cloud free earth when in fact the earth is shrouded in clouds up to two thirds over its surface area. The variation in the cloud cover is a 200 times more powerful factor than the small effect of CO₂, according to Nobel Laureate John Clauser. The IPCC has not convincingly answered the questions we have asked (and neither has the climate science consensus). We do know this: a mass hysteria has been whipped up by people and organizations purporting to bring about so-called climate change solutions who are also big beneficiaries. Trillions of dollars have already been spent to no effect, yet they are demanding even more. Who benefits? The climate change industrial complex, John Podesta, China, Goldman Sachs, Al Gore & John Kerry, the degrowth zealots, Blackrock and Klaus Schwaab. Who loses? most of the rest of us, developing countries, thousands of species & habitats, taxpayers, the average consumer and real science. The climate change agenda threatens our modern way of life. Listen in to arm yourself with the arguments we need to be making to resist it.
Gender ideology is the source of the belief that children can be born in the wrong body. It doesn't accommodate the reality of sex and those promoting it don't want you to use real terms or define it clearly, so they can continue to create confusion. Jay W. Richards, PhD, explains this troubling trend and he brings solutions, making the case that states need to pass legislation clearly defining male and female. Join this incredibly insightful conversation!

The infusion of gender ideology into medicine has led politicized pockets of the medical industry to prey upon vulnerable children who experience distress with their sexed bodies. Rather than working to help these youth become comfortable with their bodies, many medical organizations and practitioners push “gender affirming care,” which starts with changed pronouns and “social transition," and moves on to puberty blockers, cross sex hormones, and even sterilizing surgery. When Chloe Cole was only twelve years old, she began taking puberty blockers. Soon after, she socially transitioned to begin presenting as a boy and began taking testosterone. At age fifteen, on the advice of her doctors, she underwent a double mastectomy. By age sixteen, she regretted the decision and “detransitioned.” She is now working to warn others of the harm of this burgeoning industry that preys on the young. This event will feature the powerful testimony of Chloe Cole and explore policies that will protect children.Hosted by Jay W. In this episode of the Standing for Freedom podcast, theologian Jay W. Richards joins the Freedom Center's Ryan Helfenbein to discuss transgenderism, the repurcussions that will come about if the Equality Act is passed, and how we can defend our beliefs in this country. Some questions about the affect the Equality Act will have on our nation and our nation's morality are answered in this podcast. Will the Equality Act have an affect on our children? Will it affect the church? Or how doctors are able to practice? Is homeschooling a safe alternative to bypass this? Or is this legislation going to come for everything? How will this affect women's sports? While the Equality Act seems to have been placed on the backburner due to other recent events in our nation, it is looming. It has passed the House and is waiting for its turn on the Senate floor. This Act will change how doctors can make medical decisions, as decisions made according to a person's biological gender could be punishable by law, and it will threaten religious liberty among other concerns. It's coming, and we need to be ready to defend our morals and values when it does.
What is the future of work? What is our new world going to look like once everything is back up and running in the world? Adam and Naresh are joined by Dr. Jay W. Today on “Catholic Drive Time,” Open Line, call in and tell your 9/11 stories PLUS Dr. Jay W. Richards on his book "The Price of Panic: How the Tyranny of Experts Turned a Pandemic into a Catastrophe" From the back of the book: The human cost of the emergency response to COVID-19 has far outweighed the benefits. That's the sobering verdict of a trio of scholars—a biologist, a statistician, and a philosopher— in this comprehensive assessment of the worst panic-induced disaster in history. As the media fanned the flames of panic, government officials and a new elite of scientific experts ignored the established protocols for mitigating a dangerous disease. Instead, they shut down the world economy, closed every school, confined citizens to their homes, and threatened to enforce a regime of extreme social distancing indefinitely. And the American public—amazingly enough—complied without protest. Modestly but relentlessly focused on what we know and don't know about the coronavirus, Douglas Axe, William M. Briggs, and Jay W. Richards demonstrate in this eye-opening study what real experts can contribute when a pandemic strikes. In the early spring of 2020, the panic of government officials, the hysteria of the media, and the hubris of suddenly powerful scientists produced a worldwide calamity. Respond Podcast Episode 1 - “A Universe Setup for Life” Presenter: Stuart Gray, @stuhgray 1. We can get to know what God is like by studying nature 2. The Universe is full of evidence it's not the result of a random unguided process – but set up for life 3. Chance does not have the metaphysical resources to: cause life or cause our environment which is setup for life. For example: Oxygen is a safe, diatomic molecule We have just enough for life to exist 4. Our solar system is a perfectly situated habitat for us to do science on planet earth 5. The “coincidences” for life go on and on in nature – surely this requires some sort of explanation 6. Detectives discover the perpetrator indirectly using the evidence they can see Our senses allow us to observe the existence of the God thru nature Our view of God thru nature is indirect, like the Detective References for this episode: St Augustine, De Civitatis Dei, Book XVI Geraint F. On today's Bible Answer Man broadcast from (01/31/20), Hank encourages listeners that have not done so already, to pick up Jay W. Richards's transformational book Eat, Fast, Feast: Heal Your Body While Feeding Your Soul—A Christian Guide to Fasting. When the subject of fasting comes up, so many people tune out, thinking that it's not for them. But as Richards makes plain, fasting is for everyone—because we are body-soul unities. Richards quotes St. Leo the Great who said, “Fasting gives strength against sin, represses evil desires, repels temptation, humbles pride, cools anger, and fosters all the inclinations of a good will, even unto the practice of every virtue.” In the second segment, Hank ponders what time will be like in eternity, a thought caused by the two periods of unconsciousness he experienced in 2019.Hank also answers the following questions:Was Jesus out of communication with God while in Mary's womb, or did he still sit at the right hand of God until his birth? When did historians first mention the Gospels? Is there any information on the dating of the Gospels?
On today's Bible Answer Man broadcast (01/22/20), Hank underscores the transcendent importance of treating both the physical and metaphysical aspects of our humanity in the way that God calls us to—fasting. This is why we featured Hank's conversation with Jay W. Richards, author of Eat, Fast, Feast: Heal Your Body While Feeding Your Soul—A Christian Guide to Fasting in a special four-day series on the Bible Answer Man broadcast. Hank also discusses the impact of Martin Luther King Jr. and others who motivated people to stop the scourge of slavery. If you happen to think that the battle against slavery is over, think again. Slavery may have been formally abolished in the United States in 1865, but it still thrives in many forms around the world.Hank also answers the following questions:Can a covert narcissist be a Christian? When Jacob worked for Leah and Rachel, did he have to work another 7 years before or after marrying Rachel? Can you address an atheist who told me that the Greek Orthodox Church, Luther, and Calvin reject the book of Revelation?
On today's Bible Answer Man broadcast (01/21/20), we pick up where we ended on our previous broadcast and present more of an episode of the Hank Unplugged podcast. Hank's guest is Jay W. Richards, author of Eat, Fast, Feast: Heal Your Body While Feeding Your Soul—A Christian Guide to Fasting. Hank and Richards discuss examples of fasting incorrectly; the physical and spiritual benefits of the Christian seasons of fasting; Darwinian associations with various diets; if feasting loses its significance without fasting; how our taste buds change; the problem with “nutritionalism” and reducing food to its chemical composition; Eucharistic symbolism and understanding our body-soul unity; the loss of fasting as an ordinary part of the Christian life for many modern Christians; and what to expect if you follow Richards' 6-week fasting routine.
On today's Bible Answer Man broadcast (01/20/20), we pick up where we ended on our previous broadcast and present more of an episode of the Hank Unplugged podcast. Hank's guest is Jay W. Richards, author of Eat, Fast, Feast: Heal Your Body While Feeding Your Soul—A Christian Guide to Fasting. Hank and Richards discuss the difference between dieting and fasting; the benefits of combining a ketogenic diet with fasting; the problem with carbohydrates; and the importance of consuming water and salt; if our bodies have two brains; the growing evidence that fasting can fight diseases such as Alzheimer's, epilepsy, Parkinson's, and cancer; and getting your body into recycle and repair mode.
On today's Bible Answer Man broadcast from (01/17/20), we pick up where we ended on our previous broadcast and present more of an episode of the Hank Unplugged podcast. Hank's guest is Jay W. Richards, author of Eat, Fast, Feast: Heal Your Body While Feeding Your Soul—A Christian Guide to Fasting. Hank and Richards discuss if Jesus assumed that his followers would fast; why we should care about early Christian practice today; examining the practice of intermittent fasting; if dietary fat bad for us; and if all calories are equal.
On today's Bible Answer Man broadcast, Hank talks about fasting, a topic that is covered in the new book by Jay W. Richards, Eat, Fast, Feast: Heal Your Body While Feeding Your Soul—A Christian Guide to Fasting. Hank recounts an illustration from the wise Cappadocian Father who used the merchant ship as an apt illustration for fasting, where a loaded ship is sunk by minor waves but the ship with a captain smart enough to toss overboard the extra weight will ride above even surging waves, and so it is with overindulged bodies.Hank also answers the following questions:I found a teacher by the name of Dr. Gene Kim on YouTube, what is your opinion on him?I was told that the generation that sees Israel become a nation will not pass. Have you heard of that? What is a biblical generation?I get confused about how Jesus died both physically and spiritually upon the cross to atone for sin. Were Jesus and God separated?
On today's Bible Answer Man broadcast (01/16/20), we present an episode of the Hank Unplugged podcast. Hank's guest is Jay W. Richards, author of Eat, Fast, Feast: Heal Your Body While Feeding Your Soul—A Christian Guide to Fasting. Hank and Richards discuss the impact that reading Eat, Fast, Feast had on Hank's cancer treatment and going into remission; why Richards believes that it is no coincidence that a decrease in fasting has led to an increase in diseases of civilization such as heart disease, obesity, hypertension, type 2 diabetes and cancer; why our bodies are designed for fasting; and why Christians stopped fasting. For further information on Eat, Fast, Feast: Heal Your Body While Feeding Your Soul—A Christian Guide to Fasting, please click here. https://www.equip.org/product/cri-resource-cri2001hup/

On today's Bible Answer Man broadcast (01/02/20), Hank praises the newest book from Jay W. Richards, Eat, Fast, Feast: Heal Your Body While Feeding Your Soul—A Christian Guide to Fasting. Like millions concerned about their health, Hank had never really known which diet plan to trust. But he's found the secret to healing the whole of you—body, soul, and spirit. Eat, Fast, Feast reveals that God is interested in more than just our physical health. He's interested in healing the whole of us. Hank has put the plan into action and it has been transformational in his life, and so he hopes it will be transformational in your life as well, which is why Hank picked this book as our resource of the month for January 2020. Hank also answers the following questions: Can believers purchase lottery tickets? Is there anything wrong with doing so?My daughter encountered a church that doesn't believe that it is Jesus that will come back, but Adam. Do you know anything about this church? It seems to me that the creation account in Genesis chapter 1 is speaking only of the creation of our galaxy, would you not agree?Did the new covenant start with Jesus' death on the cross? Are his teachings in the gospels under the old law?

On today's Bible Answer Man broadcast, Hank features the brand new edition of the Christian Research Journal by discussing the cover story Why Marxism and Socialism Always Fails by Jay W. Richards. Marxism, rebranded as socialism today, is making a comeback, and in the politics of the progressive Left, the makeover is complete. But Marxs theory suffers the same malady as every materialistic theory it contradicts the existence of the theorist. Richards explains how it works and what we should know in this cover feature article in the current edition of the Christian Research Journal. Hank also answers the following questions Do we have the ability to bind and loose through faith in Christ? Does the Orthodox Church observe the practice of praying to the Saints in the same way as the Catholic Church? Arent we supposed to put effort into working rather than live paycheck to paycheck and rely on Gods provision? If Christ died for our past and future sins, would we be forgiven if we dont get a chance to repent of a sin?
Bestselling author and economist Jay W. Richards makes the definitive case for how the free market and individual responsibility can save the American Dream in an age of automation and mass disruption.
On today's special edition of the Bible Answer Man broadcast, Hwe present an episode of the Hank Unplugged podcast in which Hank talked with philosopher and theologian, Jay W. Richards, author of Money, Greed, and God: Why Capitalism is the Solution, Not the Problem.
Hank takes callers' questions and answers them to equip them to defend the truth of the gospel.
In this lecture, Dr. Jay W. Richards gave highlights from his upcoming book on human uniqueness and the claim that machines will replace us. He will show how the Christian understanding of the human person helps provide guidance in the debate about artificial intelligence and automation, and how to respond to it.A thousand futurists predict that in the next few decades, machines will take over even more of our work, leaving mass joblessness in its wake. How should we respond to these claims? It’s true that machines will do many tasks we imagined could only be done by people. But many of these claims are based on a materialistic view of the human person that contradicts both faith and reason.Dr. Richards argued that we do need to prepare for massive job disruption. And we'll need to adapt by focusing on key virtues that separate man from machine. But machines will never replace us.Jay W. Richards, Ph.D., is the Executive Editor of The Stream. He is an Assistant Research Professor in the School of Business and Economics at The Catholic University of America and a Senior Fellow at the Discovery Institute. Economic liberty and religious liberty are often expressed by the same choices. Jay W. Richards comments on the current fights pitting economic and religious liberty against government power. See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
Anyone who has read The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings can gather that their author hated tyranny, but few know that the novelist who once described himself as a hobbit “in all but size” was—even by hobbit standards—a zealous proponent of economic freedom and small government. There is a growing concern among many that the West is sliding into political, economic, and moral bankruptcy. In his beloved novels of Middle-Earth, J.R.R. Tolkien has drawn us a map to freedom. Scholar Joseph Pearce, who himself has written articles and chapters on the political significance of Tolkien’s work, testified in his book Literary Giants, Literary Catholics, “If much has been written on the religious significance of The Lord of the Rings, less has been written on its political significance—and the little that has been written is often erroneous in its conclusions and ignorant of Tolkien’s intentions…. Much more work is needed in this area, not least because Tolkien stated, implicitly at least, that the political significance of the work was second only to the religious in its importance.” Several books ably explore how Tolkien’s Catholic faith informed his fiction. None until now have centered on how his passion for liberty and limited government also shaped his work, or how this passion grew directly from his theological vision of man and creation. The Hobbit Party fills this void. The few existing pieces that do focus on the subject are mostly written by scholars with little or no formal training in literary analysis, and even less training in political economy. Witt and Richards bring to The Hobbit Party a combined expertise in literary studies, political theory, economics, philosophy, and theology.
