“Dance Talk” ® with Joanne Carey and Gene Schiavone. In this episode of “Dance Talk” ® with Joanne Carey, join host Joanne Carey as she chats with Special Guest: Dance Photographer Gene Schiavone about his career which grew out of a hobby. You will meet this humble man behind the lens who captures moments in time thus memorializing history. Gene shares how he savors the relationships he has made and the individuals he has met, summing up his career by his treasured box of thank you notes, saying in his own words, "You measure your life, in some way, by how many thank you notes you got." Gene Schiavone became interested in photography as a child. With no formal training, he went on to become a sought after Dance Photographer. What began as a childhood curiosity became a budding career, photographing some of the worlds best ballet dancers. Gene attributes his introduction to the world of ballet to his wife through her involvement with ABT (American Ballet Theater). His informal conversation with renowned ballerina, Julie Kent, piqued his interest in the art form and then began to attend more ballet performances. Around that same time, Gene was given permission to photograph performances of ABT's studio company and after two years was invited to photograph the main company, which led to other requests for similar work. Gene's work and images includes Boston Ballet, Mariinsky Theatre, Bolshoi Ballet, Washington Ballet, Miami City Ballet, Atlanta Ballet and The Radio City Rockettes among others. His images have appeared New York Times, Washington Post, Wall Street Journal and all the major dance publications both here and abroad. In March 2020, Gene retired from studio photography and is currently working on his first book in collaboration with retired ballerina and dance writer, Gavin Larsen. Gene continues to acknowledge his gratitude for all the dancers he has worked with over the years and for the hundreds of pairs of signed shoes and photos he remembers them by. Helen Zaltzman (The Allusionist, Answer Me This! and Veronica Mars Investigations) and Helen O’Hara (Empire Podcast and magazine) return to Flixwatcher remotely to review Helen Z’s choice Center Stage. Center Stage 2000 teen drama about a group of young dancers from different backgrounds that join a prestigious (fictional) ballet school in New York City. Directed by Nicholas (Madness of King George) Hytner and stars a mix of actors and dancers. Out of the main characters who are dancers, four are professional ballet dancers (Amanda Schull (her debut) Ethan Stiefel, Sascha Radetsky, and Julie Kent), one is a professional figure skater (Ilia Kulik), one had ballet training (Zoe Saldana in her debut also), and two were actors with no ballet training (Susan May Pratt and Shakiem Evans). Body doubles were used for many of the major dance sequences. Peter Gallagher also stars as the company director and choreographer. Center Stage is essentially a high school drama set in a ballet school. Nothing is ambiguous and if you missed anything then it is all summarised - through dance - in the dance finale. The brutal side of ballet - no pizza and bad feet, Mandy Moore and bland boyfriends feature heavily - if that’s your thing then you’ll love it. Scores [supsystic-tables id=214] If it’s not then you’ll probably not enjoy it - this caveat was heavily reflected in the scores with an average of three for recommendability which ends up giving an overall score of 3.34. Following international women's day on Monday It was an absolute pleasure to host this amazing lady on the Podcast. A story of grief, grit and resilience, glamour and giving. Honoured with an MBE in October 2020 by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. Often referred to as the lady with the sax, Julie is an inspirational, musical and a high-energy keynote speaker who enters the stage playing the saxophone and takes the audience on an adventure through three challenging decades. Talking openly about the loss of her first daughter Emily, who died of a brain tumour at the age of 3 Julie enthuses about how giving and raising money helped her journey of grief. She became a crazy, fun and much loved House Mistress at Dean Close School in Cheltenham teaching, living with and caring for over 60 young girls. She showed them how to give to help others, with not just money but with time, energy and humility. Her mantra of “Give to charity, Give your time, Give yourself” was one that she lived by everyday and encouraged others to do the same. She talks about how she became one of the most driven and prolific third sector leaders of our time, having a ward in Gloucestershire and Bristol Children's Hospitals named after Emily her daughter, raising unheard of sums of money for charities, becoming Chairman of Cheltenham Open Door, Vice Chairman of The Pied Piper Appeal, Ambassador and Trustee for Goals beyond Grass. In 2018 she was named as one of the 50 Greatest Women in Gloucestershire followed by being named in the Top 100 Women in West and was then awarded the Most Outstanding Woman in the Charitable Sector in the West. In 2020, during the COVID pandemic, Julie Kent was awarded an MBE for Charitable Services rendered on Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II birthday honours list. Julie Kent MBE - in conversation with Paul Wilson. Julie Kent was awarded an MBE in the Queen’s Birthday Honours List in June 2020 for her services to Charities. It began after losing her first daughter aged three from a brain tumour and she has had an eventful life combining charity work with living and caring for 60 teenage girls in a boarding house at Dean Close School in Cheltenham. As a singer and sax player she is a born entertainer and is busy planning a virtual world tour as a key note speaker talking about her life and the Power of Giving. You can reach Julie here: Instagram : https://www.instagram.com/juliekentmb... Facebook : https://www.facebook.com/julie.kent.758 Twitter : https://twitter.com/juliekentmbe Julie’s website : http://www.juliekentmbe.com Paul Wilson WHAT I DO: I help people with an alcohol problem get sober, stay sober and take back control of their lives. WHO I WORK WITH: I partner with business owners, executives, and those with high pressure targets. HOW IT WORKS: We start with a free strategy call. If we agree that we're a good fit, we'll diary three sessions, usually about a week apart. WHAT OTHERS SAY: "I’d been drinking alcohol on a regular basis for several decades, always thinking I’d stop one day. I heard about Paul’s work and decided to give it a try. What did I have to lose? After years of struggling with my issue, I was blown away with how easy it was to change. Paul has a calming, grounded energy and I immediately felt at ease in his presence. Despite the obvious apprehension prior to my first session, I was able to totally relax and be in the moment from the outset. The urge to drink alcohol literally disappeared overnight. There were a few fleeting moments where I thought about it briefly, but these soon faded once the change was embedded into my subconscious. The whole process took a mere 3 weeks, which I found astounding. I would thoroughly recommend Paul as a practitioner for making positive changes in your life. He was incredibly supportive during the process. I didn’t need any help between sessions, but he offers this as part of the service. At the end he even guided me through the methods I could use on myself for any other change work I wanted to do. I have tried this at home and it works. As a result, I feel empowered to create further change and steer ever closer to my life goals. Thank you Paul, you have changed my life for the better!" Talking openly about the loss of her first daughter Emily, who died of a brain tumour at the age of 3 Julie enthuses about how giving and raising money helped her journey of grief. In 2018 she was named as one of the 50 Greatest Women in Gloucestershire followed by being named in the Top 100 Women in West and was then awarded the Most Outstanding Woman in the Charitable Sector in the West. Always like to give you a rundown of new artists appearing on Sequences, starting with Timo Kaukolampi, with a throbbing and pulsating ambient piece, exploring the modular side of electronics, two US female musicians, Ann Annie’s self-exploration of dreams, textures, rhythms & uplifting, transportive and meditational sounds of Kaitlyn Aurelia Smith, played on a Buchla Music Easel modular synth, colorful and detailed sequences of Curved Light, electronic manipulations of the cello, processed into unrecognizable textures from Julie Kent. Husband & wife duo Milosz & Magdelena Pekala, playing percussion instruments with the use of the vibraphone & marimba to great effect, accompanied by Asuna Arashi on synths & electro-acoustics devices. Hypnotic & warm modern grooves of Sine, the four-piece Texan band Thousand Foot Whale Claw, giving us a wall of sound Inspired by progressive 70’s German kraut-rock & finally Mikael Lind collaboration with the Tangs member Hoshiko Yamane, musically both have the knack for creating mesmerizing ambient music with classical influences, violin, viola and piano being at the forefront. Our vintage track In The Wake Of King Fripp, is taken from the 1975 Heldon album Allez Teia, no surprises here who this track was dedicated to. Opening for the show, Aussie duo Klaus with their new album Klaus 2, which is not a million miles from Froese, Franke & Schmoelling era of Tangerine Dream, enjoy. "The Dancer". Julie Kent has not always been Julie Kent. The Kent name was suggested to her by Mikail Baryshnikov when he asked her to co-star in his film The Dancers just after he had watched her audition for the American Ballet Theatre in New York. Julie went on to become the longest-serving ballerina in American Ballet Theatre’s 75-year history, and performed as a principal dancer for 23 years. She has danced in well over 100 ballets, been named one of People Magazine’s “50 Most Beautiful People”, and in 2016, she became the Artistic Director of The Washington Ballet. She is a world-renowned star by any definition.

Julie Kent joins us this week to tell her story of how she accidentally got into real estate investing, but has continued to intentionally build her real estate portfolio over the last few years to provide reliable passive income. She also invests in other assets and we talk about why she builds her portfolio the way she does. For anybody who likes what they do but wants to build your real estate portfolio on the side, this show is a must-listen!

Poslechněte si proč zrovna tohle album a co nám ještě hrálo. Nakonec i pozvánky a nepozvánky na koncerty a report z Andy Warhol's night. Pusť to!
Don't count Washington out when it comes to the nation's art centers. Women Rule talks with two leading ladies of D.C.'s art scene: Melissa Chiu, the director of the Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden, and Julie Kent, the artistic director for the Washington Ballet. Chiu discusses the rise of museums in the age of social media, her curation of Kusama's popular "Infinity Rooms" exhibit, and how she turned the Hirshhorn into an Instagram sensation. Kent reflects on her transition away from dancing and weighs what it means for women to lead in the art world.
Author Julie Kent joins Steph and Tony to talk about her new novel, NaNoWriMo and how music helps her write.
