DAMTT: My Pet Parrot OR My Parrot Needs a Line Not a Cracker Join Stacy Heller and Eric Reidar in this week's episode as Stacy battles her ongoing ankle woes (she's definitely not up for Eric's proposed “Jumping Jacks” segment), and Eric recounts his misadventures in car shopping—a saga filled with lemons and zero lemonade. For their Cultural Blindspot, both tackle The Godfather, experiencing plenty of ah-ha moments, a few ohs, and some definite ewws. And when it comes to teaching a pet parrot to talk, well, let's just say the parrot speaks for itself. Expect the usual witty banter, meandering tangents, and more on Don't Ask Me to Talk! Your Sinclair was one of the "Big 3" Spectrum magazines, alongside CRASH and Sinclair User. It was considered to be more humourous and zany than its contemporaries. Its final issue was in September 1993, which was an incredible run, considering the 16-bit computers had taken foothold years prior. In 1991, they published their top 100 games list, which was compiled by staff writer Stuart Campbell. It was a comprehensive list of games featuring many classics (and some curveballs). Join Drisky and Kingy as they go through the games on this list. With thanks to Gary Arnott for recreating that final cover for our own poster for this episode. On Sunday November 5th, 1950 at 6PM, NBC launched a new ninety-minute star-studded program called The Big Show. Each episode cost over one-hundred-thousand dollars to produce. Hopes were high. Martin and Lewis appeared twice. This is from the December 17th broadcast. They also became regulars on TV's Colgate Comedy Hour, which had over sixty-million million weekly viewers. By the summer of 1951, Martin and Lewis had scored with blockbuster films in That's My Boy and The Stooge, and a sell-out touring act. LIFE Magazine reported tour audience members refused to leave. They began doing free shows afterwards on their hotel fire escapes. The streets were jammed with onlookers. Abby Greshler booked appearances on NBC-TV's Colgate Comedy Hour, but it still bothered the pair that they'd flopped in radio. They wanted another chance. NBC hired Ed Simmons and Norman Lear—Martin & Lewis' comedy writers—to write the new program. Dick Mack was the director. NBC offered it as part of their new multi-sponsor experiment called Operation Tandem. Chesterfield Cigarettes, Anacin Tablets, and the makers of Chiclets gum signed on. The new show premiered on October 5th, 1951 to great reviews. Dinah Shore was the guest star. In 1951, Frank Sinatra, at a low point in his career, didn't make a single significant appearance on radio. Rejected by Hollywood, he turned to Las Vegas and made his debut at the Desert Inn in September. Sinatra became one of Las Vegas's pioneer entertainers. Frank's first wife, Nancy, filed for divorce. It became final on October 29th, 1951. Daughter Nancy Jr. remembered that time. Frank and Ava Gardner were married in a small ceremony less than two weeks later on November 7th. In financial difficulty following his divorce and career decline, Sinatra was forced to borrow $200,000 from Columbia to pay his back taxes. On Friday, January 18th, 1952 The Martin & Lewis Show took to the air with good friend Frank Sinatra as the guest of honor. This particular episode was a forty-five minute special. This episode's rating was a 6.0. The overall season rating was 5.5. This is Your F.B.I. over ABC won the 8:30 time slot with a 7.2. Opposite on TV, NBC telecast We The People, and CBS' Man Against Crime starring Ralph Bellamy pulled a rating of 32. For more information on the career of Frank Sinatra, tune into Breaking Walls episode 85. Even with audiences leaving for TV, Readers of TV-Radio Life voted The Martin & Lewis Show their favorite comedy show of 1952, while the two made the films Jumping Jacks and Sailor Beware.

We loved having our latest hootworthy 5th grade Georgia Cyber Academy (GCA) Champion on the show, Jack! He created his own YouTube channel, Jumping Jack Productions, where he makes fun videos featuring toy photography or educational videos teaching science and social studies topics. One of the main goals of his YouTube Channel is to inspire others. He came up with the name of his channel one day playing hula-hoop with his brothers. They imagined themselves jumping through the hula-hoop to another dimension, so the logo and name was born. Toy photography isn't the type of hobby one hears often, but it is about as straightforward as it sounds. Jack takes photos of his toys, but not regular photos. He tries to create scenes that are as realistic as possible using special effects, cameras, and photoshop. Some of the special effects include fireworks and fog in a can, or even a plunger to kick up dirt, dust, or ice. His latest project showcased a scene with ice hockey toys. His YouTube channel also features educational videos with the motto “kids teaching kids” where he covers science topics like physical change and chemical change or social studies content such as the Berlin Wall. Some of these videos are GCA assignments that he turns into video projects. Many of these projects involve collaboration with his dad, who helps him with some of the editing, filming, and special effects, with Jack doing most of the writing and acting. Some of the lessons Jack has learned through creating and operating his YouTube channel include valuable skills like filming, acting, photography, photo/film editing, and writing, along with how to teach and encourage others. One of the things he enjoys about being a student at GCA is how he finds time throughout the school day to accomplish most of his work, so he has more time after school to work on his hobbies. He loves schedule and flexibility at GCA which allows him to spend more time pursuing his hobby of creating educational and fun video content. He is open to the possibility of a career in media, but is enjoying his time with the YouTube channel as long as he can and the opportunities that come from it. He wants to shout out GCA, his teachers, friends, mom and dad, and his entire family. Be sure to check out Jack's Youtube channel: https://www.youtube.com/@jumpingjackproductions and the excellent content! Stay hootworthy, Jack!

Marni and Chris break down the dos and don'ts of dating. The duo takes a look at the behavior of the single men and women on reality tv show, Love Is Blind, as they navigate through the messy game that is love. Much of what the contestants do on the show mimics our real-life interactions with each other in today's dating scene. Marni and Chris consider why it is that people act the way they do in certain situations. They dissect the personas we all put on when meeting someone for the first time; and they question the little quirks we all bring to the table and how they affect the way we present ourselves. Takeaways from this episode: Show who you are, don't yell it Too much mystery isn't a thing, find a balance It's not about what you do as much as it is about who you are Meet your date's energy Don't lay it all out on the first date When He Tells You Who He is, Believe Him [13:04] Your non-negotiables are your lifeline when it comes to dating. That being said, falling in love with potential isn't the same as falling in love with a person. Marni draws a comparison between the couples on both the Bachelor Paradise and Love is Blind, and the way women, sometimes, behave IRL when dating. Many of us go into a relationship - knowing that our partner doesn't meet our non-negotiables - out of this conviction or hope that one day they'll somehow meet our checklist. And that is despite the fact that our partner has been upfront about who they are from the get-go. We just chose not to believe them. What ends up happening is that we waste time; and to add insult to injury, we're upset when they act in par with who they've told us they are. Listen to your partner when they tell you who they are. It'll save both of you time, energy, and unnecessary disappointment. Don't do Jumping-Jacks as Someone Pours Their Heart Out [16:40] As Bartiste was sharing stories from his childhood and opening up, Raven seemed to think it was the most opportune moment for her to get her work-out in. It seems obvious, but maybe keep your donkey kicks until after your date is done telling you about their childhood traumas. How Raven behaved was not only rude, but dismissive and borderline mean. While she may, at first, come off as aloof, Marni argues that she's actually someone who seems emotionally unavailable and not attuned to the person in front of her. And honestly, it really is cringe when the person you're opening up to, decides to do something else, while you pour your heart out to them. Just don't do it. Put Your Best Foot First, Don't Shove it Through the Door [18:52] We all have passions, hobbies, skills and things that we're good at it. And it's normal for everyone to want to present their best self when first dating. But there is a point when it becomes too much, as was apparent with several of the personalities on Love Is Blind. Both Colleen and Raven, made it a point throughout much of their encounters, to hammer in the fact that one is a ballerina and the other is into fitness. Marni believes that to a certain extent, constantly talking about what you do or what you're good at on first dates shows a lack of confidence and self-worth. And quite frankly, it can be a turn-off. Rather than leading with what you do, Marni suggests leading with who you are. The fun thing about dating is you get to know the person as you go on more and more dates. So, instead of laying it all out, sometimes giving little bits and pieces without honing in on one particular skill (over and over) is the way to go. That's what dating is, it's to get to know if the idea of the person you have is really who the person is. While this episode spans 40 minutes (long for us!) and has a variety of topics, there are comparisons to be drawn between the discussion of how pointless jumping jacks are and the meat of the episode. That is, the recent market happenings over the past year reveal issues in how financial media outlets cover financial news on a daily – and even hourly – basis. On the day of this recording, an otherwise pedestrian day in the markets, Clint pulls up one of the headlines from CNBC. That article seeks to attach reaction to Fed Chair Jerome Powell's rate hike to the market movements, market movements that were less than 0.70% in both the Dow Jones and S&P 500. This spawns further discussion on how the financial media industry and its figureheads have trended toward being more forward-looking and predictive in recent years, forecasting that can be about as useful as jumping jacks. But that's not all we cover in this episode. We also go into the recent rate hikes, inflation, proper jumping jack form (not that it matters, per Clint), and more.
