In this second bonus episode of Old Spook Lane Creepy Chats, Arun and Patricia continue their lookback at the 1989 animated series Beetlejuice based on the 1988 movie directed by Tim Burton with the 4th season that aired exclusively on Fox Fids. Lydia Deetz is a 12-year-old goth girl who lives in a small town called Peaceful Pines with her parents, goes to an all girls' school with her friends Prudence and Bertha, and befriends a ghost who lives in the house named Beetlejuice. Together, they go through many crazy adventures in both the real world and the world of the dead called The Neitherworld with Beetlejuice causing trouble towards everyone in his path, including his neighbors Jacques LaLean, a skeleton who loves working out, Ginger, a tap dancing spider, and The Monster Across the Street, a giant hairy monster with a dog named Poopsie. New to the series are a clown named Scuzzo, a television executive named Mr. Monitor, a cowboy named Jesse Germs, and Beetlejuice's brother Donny. Shortly after the ABC run had ended, the show was moved to Fox Kids where it had 65 episodes with a lot more wacky and zany adventures. It had even won an Emmy tying with The New Adventures of Winnie the Pooh as Best Animated Show. How well does it hold up? Is it better than the ABC run? --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/old-school-lane/support

Should I make my kids run? This is an interesting question and one that I've pondered a lot as a parent and also a coach. In this episode, I'll share points from both these perspective as well as lots of examples that I've seen of when to push and when to ease up. This episode also applies to really any hobby or interest that you might want your kids to pursue. I will warn you, I do get on a couple of soapboxes in this episode, but feel this is a valuable message, worth sharing. Support the showJoin my mailing list! Back The Blue K-9 Force became a 501c3 in March of 2016. We worked with K-9s from several different departments around Metro Denver. We purchased with donated funds 15 K-9s. Two of the SRO dogs K-9s Zeke and Riley are included in that number. We wanted to become involved with the SRO program when we learned about how therapy dogs calm kids with special needs in times of crisis and provide comfort to all the students. The goal is to raise funds and awareness of why School Resource Therapy K-9s are needed. To help raise money to purchase more SRO dogs as well as to cover their medical and needed safety gear. Also, to help with the apprehension, narcotics, explosive, and electronics detection K-9s who often partner with the SRO dogs. Join us for a pet friendly 5k trail run/walk to spread mental health awareness and PAWSitivity in schools with the help of more therapy K9's like Rex. Visit RexRun.com to sign up for this great event. Run/Walk Info: Come celebrate National Dog Day at our family fun 5K Trail run/walk event on August 26th! This is a year of celebration! Therapy K-9 Rex, the inspiration of RexRun For PAWSitivity 2023 was joined by his brother, Zeke and his nephew, Riley! In April, therapy K-9's Bear and Otis joined the pack! Come and join us in celebrating National Dog Day with a family fun filled day! Our 5K Trail run begins at 8am and is followed by the 5K Trail walk (with your dog) and a Kids Run. After that, you can enjoy a delicious pancake breakfast at the Flippin' Flapjacks food truck! All day long, we will have K-9 training demonstrations and the ASCO Mounted Patrol will gallop in! Don't miss our dog costume contest followed by a silent and live auction! The Kids Zone will have face painting and a balloon artist! The vendors in the Marketplace will be handing out giveaways throughout the event! K-9 Rex is a two-year-old black Labrador therapy dog. He and his fellow K-9's with their handlers go to local schools to primarily offer comfort to students with special needs. Many are in crisis and are dealing with stress, anxiety and depression. All net profits go to the law enforcement K-9's through the 501(c)3 nonprofit, Back The Blue K-9 Force, to purchase K-9's and their protective gear as well as provide funding for their medical needs. Apprehension K-9's trained in narcotics, explosives, and electronics detection, are also funded by Back The Blue K-9 Force. Several of the K-9's will be at RexRun For PAWSitivity 2023! Four registrations are available this year! 8 am - 5K Trail Run 8:30 am - 5K Trail Walk and bring your dogs! 9:00 am -1-mile Kids Trail Run/Walk Virtual Run/Walk is open anytime from August 1st to September 1st.
Running away is a serious problem. According to the National Runaway Switchboard, an organization that takes calls and helps kids who have run away or are thinking of running away, 1 in 7 kids between the ages of 10 and 18 will run away at some point. And there are 1 million to 3 million runaway and homeless kids living on the streets in the United States. National Center for Missing and Exploited Children has stated that they believe that 1 in 6 kids who run away are at risk of being a victim of sex trafficking. For nearly ten years Million Kids has operated the Million Kids Missing Kids program to assist parents in locating and the return of runaway and missing kids. We have sent out hundreds of thousands of flyers and been involved in the location or return of many missing teens. Over the next two broadcasts of Exploited: Crimes and Technology program we will explore why kids run away and what parents can do to intervene. This week we will look at what kids are running “from”. There can be many factors that kids want to escape from. Perhaps they are being bullied at school, or the home is not safe from sexual or physical abuse, or the homelife is unstable for the minor, and sometimes it is because they are dealing with issues of abandonment, drug and alcohol use, or feeling the family unit is not stable. The second part of this series we will examine what kids are running “to”. This can often be a fantasy relationship whether real or perceived, a new friend that is influencing them, or they are being groomed a new online relationship. Some kids fantasize about a life of freedom living on the streets and going where they want without supervision which works until reality sets in. Other teens hook up with people they have met on a dating site or video game chat room and just want to see what the person is really like but unfortunately they disappear. --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/million-kids/support

Evie Serventi was Tina's sports psychologist during her elite career and is a very close friend. Her “lightbulb moment” about sport came when she observed her father using exercise to counter high levels of work-related stress and recognized the positive effects that physical activity can have on all aspects of life. This is her fourth time on the Running for Real podcast - a record for a guest! In this episode, Evie and Tina talk about something that we all seem to struggle with in our increasingly busy lives - managing our time and the stress that creates. When Melissa Corley Carter was in 5th grade, an astronaut came and talked to her class. She knew then that she wanted to travel into space herself. She became a rocket scientist, but she wasn't able to realize her astronaut dream. She did achieve another audacious goal, though; she ran a marathon on all seven continents. She wrote Running the World: Marathon Memoirs from the Seven Continents about her outer marathon journey and her inner journey of creating a more powerful and purposeful life. As she says, “Running has such a capacity to connect us to our bodies, to the rhythm of the earth, to our own nature.” In this conversation, she shares what she learned from both journeys. The name of Adam Merry's coaching company, “Run Merry,” is a play on his surname, but it also describes his philosophy. He follows the advice of his coach, David Roche, to “smile as much as you can and try to be as uplifting to others as possible because it comes back to you.” His belief that having fun should be at the center of everything has served him well as a professional ultrarunner. In his three races last year, he finished first overall in the Run the Rock 50 miler, and second overall in the Sage Burner 50K and the Never Summer 100K. As a coach, he shares what he's learned on his running journey with clients all around the world. For complete show notes and links, visit our website at runningforreal.com/episode293.
