97% of domestic violence survivors say that concern about leaving a pet was a factor in their decision to leave an abusive situation. Yet, only 17% of domestic violence shelters accept pets.   Emergency sheltering for victims of domestic violence is a critical need. Not everyone has access to the homes of family or friends as a means to find safety.       Not enough shelters in New Jersey allow pets. And that needs to change.     This is an issue the Community Foundation of New Jersey has leaned into thanks to a generous donor, Karen Lindemann, who left CFNJ a bequest that was designed to ensure that considerations around pets would not stop survivors from seeking help. Back at it with another fun episode and i give you the worst into ever, i really struggled keeping this intro, but i like to share my failures. From there we jump into ex president 45 being in Long Island to give a speech to the people and i wanted to attend the festivities. I also speak about the folks stuck in space again because i just found out Elon has been hosting space missions while these folks are waiting to be rescued.  (43:29-01:09:54) We then step into a segment where the listeners ask me 3 questions about myself. Like is it still achievable to have a secret family in this day and age. Another ask which cereal is a hood icon and i know you forgot the one i name. Every year, the fireworks in  neighborhoods have gotten louder, more dangerous, and lasted longer. The effects on pets, those with nervous conditions and people with PTSD are horrific. Law enforcement is essentially helpless to do anything about the problem. Every year, people are killed by an illegal fireworks, hundreds are maimed, fires set, yet the problem remains. Mo and Susan discuss this issue, certainly out of frustration, but with hope that enough people will raise the alarm and things will change. Mo set his recording device outside to automatically record for a few hours and caught the sound of explosions in his area. This was NOT the 4th of July, but a few days before!
