By 1980, Judas Priest were ready to take on all the world! Fresh off their classic live album Unleashed In The East, Priest were ready to conquer America and the world with a more pop sound. Priest hit the charts with songs like Living After Midnight and Breaking The Law and offered new anthems to the teenage set with United and Metal Gods. But they stayed true to their heavy metal roots with songs like Rapid Fire and Steeler. Rob Halford shows off his chops and range on songs like The Rage as Ian Hill offers up a fun and memorable bass line. While we don't see much of the dueling solos between KK Downing and Glenn Tipton as would come to be familiar with on most of their 80s and latter day albums, they each show off their individual styles here while doing what's best for the songs. And the addition of Dave Holland on the drums solidified the classic 80s Priest lineup that would help them conquer the US and the world. They also forayed into making videos with the help of Julien Temple, much to the delight of Beavis & Butthead. This album helped propel Judas Priest and heavy metal onto a bigger stage and laid the foundation for the band's success in the 1980s and beyond. You'll likely have heard their name mentioned recently, whether that's due to being touted as the next coming of Def Leppard by KK Downing, or for their upcoming gigs touring the UK, or being on the bill for Keep It True Rising III in October. But how did we come to this? How did this band appear to achieve great success, seemingly overnight? Tom gives the full back story of the group, and reveals what has been happening behind closed doors to get them to where they are today.

Lovely, relaxed guy! Support this show: https://www.everyonelovesguitar.com/support Richie's most well-known for being one of the guitarists in Judas Priest. He replaced KK Downing after he left the band in 2011. Richie has a new project of his own, called Elegant Weapons, and the band just released their first LP called Horns for a Halo. I listened to the LP and it's fantastic - it's a great representation of what I'd call original British heavy metal music of the 80's and 90's. High energy yet melodic songs you can actually sing and hum along with. If this is your first introduction to Richie's playing, you're going to find him to be an intelligent and extremely creative player whose technical skills are equally matched by his sense of melody. Other things I'd encourage you to watch and listen to, to check out Richie is the track You've Got Another Thing Coming from the Judas Priest DVD, Epitaph - which is actually on Apple Music. Richie performs a 3 minute solo on stage all alone and it's freaking awesome. Like, “goosebumps” awesome. This week is our 8th installment of, “Degrees Of Separation…” where we discuss the more obscure side projects and solo releases from some not-so-obscure artists. This week we pay homage to the rock n' roll rags to riches story that is the metal god-like voice that is Tim “Ripper” Owens. He inspired a major motion picture, not to mention gave opportunities to countless other singers from tribute bands to perhaps be considered as the replacement for the real deals. This guy has some of the most sought-after pipes of the last 25 years. All hear our warning; never turn your back on The Ripper!New to InObscuria? It's all about excavating obscure Rock n' Punk n' Metal from one of 3 categories: the Lost, the Forgotten, or the Should Have Beens. While we may be talking about bands that you know intimately in this episode, perhaps you are not aware of the depth of side projects they have had over their careers. Our hope is that we turn you on to something new!Songs this week include:Ripper - “Embattled” from Embattled - Single (2022)Winter's Bane - “Heart Of A Killer” from Heart Of A Killer (1993)Yngwie J. Malmsteen - “Damnation Game” from Perputual Flame (2008)Operation: Mindcrime - “Taking On The World (feat. Ripper Owens & Blaze Bayley)” from Resurrection (2016)Charred Walls Of The Damned - “Creating Our Machine” from Charred Walls Of The Damned (2010)Iced Earth - “Valley Forge” from The Glorious Burden (2004)KK's Priest - “Raise Your Fists” from Sermons Of The Sinner (2021)Metal Allegiance - “We Rock” from Metal Allegiance (2015)Please subscribe everywhere that you listen to podcasts!Visit us: https://inobscuria.com/https://www.facebook.com/InObscuriahttps://twitter.com/inobscuriahttps://www.instagram.com/inobscuria/Buy cool stuff with our logo on it!: https://www.redbubble.com/people/InObscuria?asc=uIf you'd like to check out Kevin's band THE SWEAR, take a listen on all streaming services or pick up a digital copy of their latest release here: https://theswear.bandcamp.com/If you want to hear Robert and Kevin's band from the late 90s – early 00s BIG JACK PNEUMATIC, check it out here: https://bigjackpnuematic.bandcamp.com/Check out Robert's amazing fire sculptures and metal workings here: http://flamewerx.com/

Prior to Screaming for Vengeance, Judas Priest had solidified their stature as a heavy metal act around the world but not so much in the US.  Though 1980's British Steel gave them some chart success in the UK & other parts of the world, big success in the States still eluded them. Thanks to You've Got Another Thing Comin', Priest was able to get on MTV and graduate to headlining arena shows in North America.  We examine this heavy metal classic as it turns 40, the Wolf relives seeing them in the front row, how this record holds up today & the legacy of Judas Priest. Ugly American Werewolf in London WebsiteYouTubeTwitterInstagramwww.pantheonpodcasts.com

There's lots to get to so let's get going!A less-than-credible source has stated that Motley Crue are doing rehearsals with Vince Neil's son in case dear old dad isn't up to the task of the upcoming Stadium Tour. Is this a nothingburger or could there be something to it? We share our thoughts. The tongue-meister himself, Gene Simmons, recently made waves at a KISS soundcheck in Hartford, CT as he donned a bath robe (with nothing under it) in front of fans that paid to be in attendance. Chris made a simple joke post on Facebook for laughs and all hell broke loose. We address the God of Slumber as well as some choice comments from the post on social media.Mental health came to the forefront in a couple of recent stories including the recent death of Black Dhalia Murder's Trevor Strnad as well as an out-of-character moment onstage between Metallica's James Hetfield and his band mates. My guest today is Mr. KK Downing, original member, co founder and guitarist for the legendary band Judas Priest, and his own project KK's Priest. It goes without saying that Judas Priest are one of the most influential bands in the history of metal. It's also a fact that KK's place in the history of metal is intact and secure since he was a part of Judas Priest since the very inception of that band. But KK doesn't seem content with resting on his laurels and he continues his legacy by creating new music and forging ahead with his new project named KK's Priest. They have a brand new record out entitled “Sermons of the Sinner.”KK was kind enough chat with me from his home in England via Zoom and we discussed many topics including songwriting, his early years, influences, the concept of “Light and Shade”, the guitar gear used in the early Priest days, and many other things (including the time Marie Osmond got upset over the use of a bullwhip prop on a TV show!)As a big Priest fan myself I was thrilled to chat with KK. He is a very nice guy and enjoyable to talk to. I know you will enjoy it!Recorded Oct. 11, 2021LINKSKK's Website BUY SERMONS OF THE SINNER HERESupport this podcast at — https://redcircle.com/the-riff-raff-with-shane-theriot/donationsAdvertising Inquiries: https://redcircle.com/brandsPrivacy & Opt-Out: https://redcircle.com/privacy
