While living in Columbia, Missouri, Deke Dickerson formed the much loved garage rock band, The Untamed Youth. He was 17. In the early '90s, at the age of 22, Deke moved to L.A. and has enjoyed great success as an excellent guitarist. He once had a regular column in Guitar Player, has written several books on guitar, he's even scored and contributed songs to film soundtracks. Two of Deke's songs are featured in the newest Disneyland ride, Cars Land, at Disney's California Adventure theme park. In 2019 he won the Ameripolitan Music Award for Musician of the Year. Some folks don't think the Jews should have a country, and that is a puzzlement to me. 'O Jerusalem!' by Larry Collins and Dominique Lapierre is the story of how the Jews founded the modern state of Israel in 1948 after the close of World War II and a failed but ambitious effort on the part of Nazi Germany to exterminate their race. Being now in my mid-30's, I think it's difficult for my generation and those younger than us to believe that a mere 40-years before I was born the Jews were homeless as a people. They were found in many if not most countries on Earth but lacked a country of their own to call home. Images and stories from the liberation of concentration camps shocked the conscience of the world, and undeniably contributed to a receptiveness regarding giving Palestine back to the Jews. The trouble with that plan, however, was that the land was occupied territory. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/garrett-ashley-mullet/message Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/garrett-ashley-mullet/support

Rob Purvis was 20 years old when he, Butch, Larry and Billy—school buddies from Winnipeg—crossed the border and joined the United States Army in Fargo, N.D. It was 1968, they needed work and they yearned for adventure. They got work, all right, and more adventure than they had bargained for. They all wanted to go to Vietnam, and they all did. Larry Collins, 22, would die there. Purvis and the others would eventually return home changed men to an indifferent Canadian public that, for the most part, didn't know and didn't care where they had been or what they had done...
