Kathryn was born in the Himalayas. However, both her parents were English and had the same desire of "going out to India, spreading the Gospel message and serving the poor," explains my guest.Living in Vienna as a young girl, Kathryn remembers her parents taking in refugees who were seeking political asylum and it was normal to have refugees sleeping on their floor regularly. These memories had a profound effect on Kathryn and she was certain that this is how her interests in helping the less fortunate  came to be. Kathryn shares that her mother was not warm and fuzzy but she was from the generation of tough and strong women. Kathryn always felt very loved. Ruby was a teacher and taught her daughter and other children from the Embassy. Ruby was determined that Kathryn would not be spoiled. Kathryn was soon sent to boarding school because her parents were working and traveling regularly."A little pencil in God's hand" is how Mother Teresa would refer to herself. She never wanted credit  or accolades for her work. "She could be a tough cookie," Spink reflects however, "she was difficult to deal with sometimes, because God was so definitely on her side and that could make things tough. Mother Teresa was so determined, nothing could get in her way.""Poverty saddened Mother Teresa the most according to Kathryn,  "I don't think it angered her not in relation to God. Waste most likely angered her the most but never with God."Mother Teresa was always seeing the presence of God in the poor and it helped her persevere.  "Tolerance was deeply ingrained in Mother Theresa" explains Ms. Spink. "Mother Teresa believed that God was at work in every soul, so it wasn't up to her to try and convince others of the 'correct/best religion."My guest remarks "Mother Teresa used to say "come to Calcutta and I'll put you to work".  This is what this demure but mighty  woman believed with her whole body, mind and spirit.Kathryn even shared stories of the similarities between Mother Teresa, whose birth name was Agnes, and her mother Drana. "The family that prays together, stays together" was one of Drana's favorite expressions according to Spink. Caring for the sick was a common thread for the two woman. "It's not always about the physical suffering, but the whole process of being abandoned by people" was one of the toughest things for Mother Teresa to comes to terms with, comments Spink.Mother Teresa founded the order, "The Missionaries of Charities." She wanted to give shelter to  abandoned babies and to help the poorest of the poor. Being now in my mid-30's, I think it's difficult for my generation and those younger than us to believe that a mere 40-years before I was born the Jews were homeless as a people. They were found in many if not most countries on Earth but lacked a country of their own to call home. Images and stories from the liberation of concentration camps shocked the conscience of the world, and undeniably contributed to a receptiveness regarding giving Palestine back to the Jews. L'occasion de réentendre son témoignage : en 2016, à l'occasion de la publication de son livre "J'ai rencontré Jésus dans les slums" (éd. L'Emmanuel), il se confiait à Béatrice Soltner et racontait son parcours. Big moment of celebration for... https://t.co/1ZOnLBWCuy — France in Kolkata (@FranceinKolkata) 7 février 2019   inspirateur du best-seller "La Cité de la Joie" Lui qui a été l'ami de Mère Teresa et du Père Pierre Ceyrac est le fondateur en 1976 de l'organisation Howrah South Point (HSP), qui vient en aide aux enfants handicapés à Calcutta (en France, c'est l'association Action et Partage avec Calcutta qui se charge de faire connaître la mission de HSP). Prêtre du Prado, François Laborde est l'un des ceux qui ont inspirés à Dominique Lapierre le personnage de Paul Lambert dans le roman "La cité de la joie" (éd. Robert Laffont, 1985), devenu un best-seller.     Naissance d'une vocation Il est né dans une famille "très chrétienne", à Paris, le 28 février 1927. Son père lui apprend notamment "l'apaisement" de la présence eucharistique. Si le jeune homme a le désir de fonder une famille, à la fin de son lycée, il est ébranlé par une parole qu'il entend : "Si l'un d'entre vous se sent appelé, qu'il ne le refuse pas." Une parole qui le "met à terre", dit-il avec un sourire. "J'étais touché."  L'aventure de François Laborde à la suite du Christ doit beaucoup à son amitié avec Robert. Un ami à la foi ardente, qui vivait dans une famille pauvre. Le jour où il se rend chez lui et comprend dans quelles conditions vit son ami, François Laborde a cette réflexion : "J'ai compris que les pauvres ne peuvent pas accéder à un milieu plus riche, mais c'est à nous à aller aux autres." En 1945, il part pour la Grande chartreuse, où il restera six mois. "J'ai été ravi par le silence et l'absence complète de performance, se souvient-il, on ne cherche pas à faire quelque chose, on cherche à être en présence de Dieu et à s'offrir à Dieu pour le monde entier. François LABORDE, missionnaire en Inde depuis 30 ans, Paris (75), France   Jusqu'au bout de l'Évangile Entré au séminaire du Prado, le Père Laborde est ordonné prêtre le 24 mars 1951. Il enseigne la philosophie et la théologie durant une dizaine d'années. Son court passage à Rome lui laisse un souvenir plus que mitigé, notamment à cause du faste qui le "choque". "De voir que dans une Cadillac un Monseigneur se fait ouvrir la porte, j'avais envie de lui dire : 'où est l'Évangile ?''' C'est que lui est justement habité de ce désir d'aller jusqu'au bout de l'Évangile. Grand admirateur du Père Antoine Chevrier (1826-1879 - fondateur de l'œuvre du Prado), qui lui a enseigné que "l'Évangile est un chemin", il débarque à Bombay le 26 janvier 1965. Depuis, il vit en Inde avec les plus pauvres de Calcutta. "L'Évangile est toujours un appel, on n'a jamais fini."   "cette pauvreté qui voudrait les mettre par terre" Depuis plus de 51 ans, il partage les conditions de vie des plus pauvres. Il crée peu à peu tout un réseau de volontaires. Son association HSP vient en aide aux enfants démunis, en particulier ceux qui sont porteurs de handicap. "Dans ma vie, j'ai connu deux monastères, la Grande chartreuse et le bidonville." Dans le bidonville, "malgré des conditions de vies extrêmement difficiles, ils ont un petit autel domestique dans lequel ils trouvent moyen de brûler un bâton d'encens pour la prière et ils offrent tout : leur souffrance, leur difficultés pour élever leurs enfants, cette pauvreté qui voudrait les mettre par terre". Le Père Laborde en est témoin, "ils trouvent dans la prière la force de résister... sans comprendre tout : il y a toujours une communion au pourquoi de Jésus... Il n'y a ni révolte ni résignation mais ils rechargent les accus par cette prière qu'ils offrent, en faisant finalement confiance que Dieu les aime encore."   Entretien réalisé en septembre 2016

Tras finalizar su carrera, vivió en Londres un año, y de vuelta en Barcelona trabajó en distintos medios de comunicación, como Barcelona TV o COM Ràdio, además de ser delegado en Cataluña de la revista Comercio Exterior. Posteriormente decantó su vida profesional hacia la cooperación al desarrollo, fundando en el año 2003 la ONGDSonrisas de Bombay. Colaborador en distintos medios de comunicación y editor jefe de la agencia de noticias Mumbai Action, es también profesor en el Máster de Liderazgo y Desarrollo Personal de la Universitat de Barcelona y miembro del comité asesor del International Simposyum on Poverty Alleviation in a World Market del Tata Institute of Social Sciences de Bombay. Sus métodos de liderazgo y su trayectoria como emprendedor son estudiados en universidades y escuelas de negocios como IESE, donde el año 2001 se publicó el study case Sonrisas de Bombay que se imparte actualmente al alumnado de los MBA Internacionales. Sanllorente ha publicado también varios libros, como Sonrisas de Bombay. El viaje que cambió mi destino (Plataforma), que ha sido traducido a ocho idiomas y con prólogo de Dominique Lapierre. También es autor de las novelas La canción de la concubina1 (Espasa) y La Costurera de Dacca (Espasa), del ensayo El Poder de las Sonrisas2 (Conecta) y coautor del libro fotográfico Bombay. Más allá de las sonrisas (Plataforma). Actualmente ocupa el cargo de presidente de la ONG Sonrisas de Bombay / Mumbai Smiles, que él mismo fundó en 2005.
