jQuery(document).ready(function(){ cab.clickify(); }); Original Podcast with clickable words https://tinyurl.com/2yxb8l2d Contact: irishlingos@gmail.com Talks are underway to avoid a strike at Aer Lingus. Comhráite ar siúl le súil stailc in Aer Lingus a sheachaint. Discussions are underway today between Aer Lingus and the Irish Airline Pilots Association regarding a pay dispute that could lead to a strike. Tá comhráite ar siúl inniu idir Aer Lingus agus Chumann Phíolótaí Aerlínte na hÉireann maidir le haighneas pá a bhféadfadh stailc a bheith mar thoradh air. Yesterday, members of that union in Aer Lingus voted overwhelmingly in favor of taking industrial action - including a strike - if a compromise was not reached between us. Inné, vótáil baill den cheardchumann sin in Aer Lingus le móramh mór i bhfabhar tabhairt faoi ghníomhaíocht thionsclaíoch – stailc san áireamh – mura dtiocfaí ar chomhréiteach idir dhá linn. Ahead of today's joint talks, Aer Lingus asked the pilots to give fifteen days' notice before going on strike. Roimh na comhchainteanna inniu, d'iarr Aer Lingus fógra cúig lá dhéag ar na píolótaí sula rachaidís ar stailc. According to the Workplace Relations Commission's code of practice, it is recommended to give at least one week's notice before going on strike. De réir chód cleachtais an Choimisiúin um Chaidreamh san Áit Oibre, moltar fógra seachtaine ar a laghad a thabhairt sula dtéitear ar stailc. The president of the pilots' union, Captain Mark Tighe, said that the members would announce "in due course" what kind of industrial action they would undertake. Dúirt uachtarán cheardchumann na bpíolótaí, an Captaen Mark Tighe, go bhfógródh na baill "in am trátha" cén sórt gníomhaíochta tionsclaíche go baileach a dtabharfaidís faoi. He indicated however that the pilots wished not to disturb people who intend to go on holiday abroad this summer. Thug sé le fios mar sin féin gur mhian leis na píolótaí gan cur as do dhaoine a bhfuil sé i gceist acu dul ar saoire thar lear an samhradh seo. On the contrary, says Mark Tighe, the pilots are determined to get their own share of the big profit that Aer Lingus is currently making. Os a choinne sin, arsa Mark Tighe, tá na píolótaí meáite ar a gcothrom féin a fháil den bhrabach mór atá Aer Lingus a dhéanamh faoi láthair. Last week, the union rejected a Labor Court recommendation to give them a total 9.2% pay rise as part of an interim settlement. An tseachtain seo caite, dhiúltaigh an ceardchumann moladh ón gCúirt Oibreachais ardú pá 9.2 faoin gcéad san iomlán a thabhairt dóibh mar chuid de réiteach eatramhach. That proposal is far from the mark, however, since the 23.8% pay rise that the pilots are demanding. Tá an moladh sin i bhfad ón marc, ámh, ós ardú pá 23.8 faoin gcéad atá na píolótaí a éileamh. According to the pilots, the pay rise offers they have been given so far are not in line with the rate of inflation or the huge profit Aer Lingus is making, and do not take into account all the benefits that have allowed they want on behalf of the company during the Covid-19 pandemic. Dar leis na píolótaí nach bhfuil na tairiscintí ar ardú pá a tugadh dóibh go dtí seo, nach bhfuil siad ag teacht le ráta an bhoilscithe ná leis an mbrabach mór atá Aer Lingus a dhéanamh, agus nach gcuirtear san áireamh iontu na sochair ar fad a lig siad uathu ar son an chomhlachta aimsir na paindéime covid 19. Aer Lingus Chief Corporate Affairs Officer, Donal Moriarty, however, said the pilots' demands were out of proportion and untenable. Dúirt Príomhoifigeach Gnóthaí Corparáideacha Aer Lingus, Donal Moriarty, áfach, go raibh éileamh na bpíolótaí as compás agus dochurtha i gcrích. Part 1 Last week, during the lull of international break, France Football, the people behind the Ballon D'or, released their ranking of the 50 greatest football managers using the following criteria "club winners, track and inheritance left on the game, personality - in addition to a fourth: the duration and impact of the career". Part 2 Ireland kicked off the Mick McCarthy era 2.0 with a 1-0 win away at the mighty Gibraltar After an absolutely disastrous 2018, Germany started 2019 with a 3-2 away win against rivals Netherlands Part 3 On March 1st, Sunday Times journalist Mark Tighe was ready to break the story of John Delaney's 100,000 euro bridging loan to the FAI. After reaching out for comment from Delaney himself, the story was eventually brought to court on the 16th as Delaney sought an injunction to prevent the story from reaching the public. On the 17th, the story did break, after the injunction attempt failed. Since then, the FAI have released 8 separate statements on the matter, John Delaney has ‘stepped down' from his role as Chief Executive, only to then create a new role for himself as the Vice Executive President, which sees him essentially retain all of his old responsibilities except for running the League of Ireland and the Irish National Team. Part 4 The International break is over and done with, and with it sees the return of the Business End of the Premier League™ Man City vs. Fulham Man United vs. Watford Chelsea vs. Cardiff Liverpool vs. Tottenham Arsenal vs. Newcastle Closing Contact us: @thetfpod on Twitter and @totalfootballpod on Instagram or email us at theTFpod@gmail.com Remember to rate/review the show on your podcast provider of choice and do tell friends and family about the show. In the history of totally daft weeks in Irish football, this one would have to rank pretty high - and we still have plenty of drama to come on and off the field. As John Delaney retires from his role as Chief Executive of the FAI, for a newly-created role as Executive Vice-President, we ponder what this all means for the balance of power in the association. Is this tantamount to a demotion for Delaney, or will he continue to be the main power-broker? We speak to Mark Tighe of the Sunday Times, who has done so much brilliant work to reveal this story, on how it went to press, the reaction, and the drama of a high court injunction mere hours before your story is due to go to press. We're also chatting to former Ireland international Damien Delaney on Ireland's short-comings on the field on Saturday night, and why we can't use conditions as an excuse for a pretty terrible first performance of Big Mick's new era. Plus there's Statement No. 7, teleportation devices, John The Baptist, and Sergio Ramos.

Abdominal pain is common in children and concerning for parents with a wide range of differentials. In this episode Dr Mark Tighe, paediatrician in Poole, takes us through some common acute presentations, including appendicitis, torsion and intussusception, as well as the differentials to be considered. He takes us through history and examination, when and where to refer and how to investigate and manage. He then addresses in some depth the problem of recurrent abdominal pain, which he divides up regionally into functional dyspepsia, functional abdominal pain and IBS. Mark describes biophysical modelling and discusses how the enteric nervous system is potentiated by stress. Fascinating and very useful material for any GP or paeds trainee. I caught up with Dr Mark Tighe, consultant paediatrician and associate editor of Archives of Disease in Childhood. He shared some golden nuggets from his recent talk at PIER 2018 about writing right for publication. There are some super useful tips and ideas here, on how to prepare material in a way which is likely to be accepted by journals, and hence read by colleagues, which is, of course the aim. Particularly as we're all so busy and suffer from the rather wonderful sounding affliction - Tsundoku - the art of buying books and journals, and never reading them!
