She has been exploring and documenting Jordan since 2016. After repeatedly returning to the same local cafés, bakeries, and family-run restaurants in Amman, she began envisioning a way for visitors to experience the city through its food and the people who make it. Her partnership with local guide Jumana helps bring this mission to life, giving guests an authentic look at Amman's vibrant food culture while amplifying voices that are often underrepresented in the sector.Show SummaryIn this episode of the Big World Made Small Adventure Travel Podcast, host Jason Elkins speaks with Lindsay about her journey from a traditional corporate career into the world of travel writing and tourism entrepreneurship in Jordan. What began as a passion for exploring local restaurants and sharing stories online eventually evolved into building a food tour company dedicated to connecting travelers with the culture and communities of Amman.Lindsay reflects on how travel reshaped her personal and professional life, opening the door to new opportunities and relationships while inspiring her to create experiences that go beyond typical sightseeing. She also shares the personal stories behind launching Amman Food Tours and the lessons she learned while building a business in a foreign country. The conversation also explores the broader cultural context of travel in Jordan, including gender dynamics within the tourism industry, how local communities navigate global and regional challenges, and what travelers should know about visiting the Middle East today. And our friends at GetYourGuide emailed and said—hey, while you're in London, do you want to take a tour?We said, sure! When we asked what it was, they said: trust us, this is a good one. They weren't kidding. It was such an interesting experience that we surprised the owner-guide by asking him to record an impromptu podcast episode right after finishing his 3-hour tour of Afro-Carribean Foods of Brixton, London.Obi owns Gorgeous Tours UK, and operates African and Caribbean food tours in Brixton, London's historically black neighborhood, sharing deeply personal stories of his Nigerian family's immigration experience alongside the complex cultural evolution of the area. What began six years ago as a slow-starting venture inspired by his wife's suggestion during a Bangkok food tour has transformed into a thriving full-time business running twice daily, six days a week, thanks to an unexpected boost from Beyoncé's London concerts in May 2023 that brought thousands of American tourists seeking authentic cultural experiences. His tours combine eight to nine food tastings with intimate storytelling that doesn't shy away from difficult truths about gentrification, historical neglect, and community displacement, instead embracing honest narratives that guests appreciate for their authenticity. Operating as a solo entrepreneur, Obi faces the classic scaling challenges of managing all aspects of his business while maintaining the personal touch and local relationships that make his tours special.

We take guests to the heart of the Willamette Wine Valley in Central Oregon to explore one of Wine Enthusiast's Wine Regions of the Year that is truly a hidden gem. This year we are taking 14 guests from June 12-17 - spots are still available! Everyday we visit incredible local wineries, tour some of the vineyards and an olive oil mill, learn about the process and of course enjoy food and wine pairings! Every evening we enjoy a multi-course dinner of local, often farm-to-table cuisine and meet the owners and chef. In between eating and drinking, we have leisurely mornings and nights at the lovely Setting Inn. You will wake up to views of the vineyards and lavender fields, and will have the opportunity to take a guided hike amongst 100-year old trees, visit the local boutiques or farmers market, and relax by the Inn's fire pit with a drink and cigar. While there is a daily itinerary of wine tastings and dinners, each day is also relaxing and full of beautiful scenery, fresh air and cool temperatures. There are still a few rooms remaining, so we'd love to have you join us!
