We've got the inside scoop as we chat with AFP's Stone Clanton and Cade Yates about the influential work they're doing. Advocating for limited government, lower taxes, and free markets, this powerhouse team is taking citizen engagement to new heights. They're shaping the discourse on key policy areas like education and healthcare and using a bottom-up approach to drive change. You'll be surprised to find out where Clanton and Yates recommend getting the best fried chicken in Mississippi! Then, we steer the ship back to crucial topics like government spending, education, and Medicaid expansion. Finally, we jump into the hot topic of tax policy and AFP's vision of reducing taxes wherever possible. We dream about the possibility of eliminating income tax in Mississippi, the challenges that pose, and the need to cut government spending. Jacob Boler is founder and director of "K.O.E: Kids Over Everything," a local charity organization focused on providing support for children in Philadelphia, Mississippi. This episode is primarily focused on the history, evolution, and current state of the Philadelphia Public School District in Philadelphia, Mississippi. The problems that persist in the Philadelphia Public Schools are not unique to Philadelphia and should not be reflected as an indictment of the children that have attended, or currently attend the institution. Nor should sole blame be placed on previous or current administration officials alone. Instead, the subpar educational environment that continues to exist in the Philadelphia Public School District should be blamed on the entire community of Philadelphia and Neshoba County, Mississippi. For decades, our community has turned a blind eye to obvious problems that have contributed to the abysmal educational circumstances we continue to place our children in day after day. Families continue to skirt the residential requirements and leaders continue to sit idly by without addressing the issue. School choice will not be discussed, nor will the issue of consolidation be raised by school board leaders. So called leaders and community pillars are withholding their power to act and impact change. As a result of this inaction, children within the Philadelphia Public School District are being sent into an educational environment which is ripe for perpetual failure. Most parents recognize this fact and opt to find a way, legally or illegally, to send their child to a school not operated by the Philadelphia Public School District. I have personal opinions regarding solutions to the issue that continues to plague our community. However, the purpose of this episode is not to tout our personal solutions to a very complex issue. Our intention is to spur a public discourse regarding the problem and hopefully begin discussions surrounding how we can better equip ALL of our young people for life in this ever changing world. At The County Line, we believe difficult problems should be discussed publicly and potential solutions should be vetted out via transparent public discourse. It is our hope that a discussion focused on educational improvements for children in Philadelphia, Mississippi will be the result of this episode. We can and should do better for our children and their futures! As always, The County Line welcomes discussion with and feedback from all parties who feel inclined to voice their opinion.
