Galen Clavio and Scott Caulfield open with a quick detour into Olympic hockey chaos, then dive into two big Indiana topics.First: Indiana football's new reality—Curt Cignetti's massive contract extension, what it signals about IU's willingness to spend like a true power, and why the next phase has to include real Memorial Stadium upgrades to match the program's new level. The guys also discuss the NCAA's latest bout of pettiness and why the Louis Moore injunction chatter isn't something Hoosiers should lose sleep over. Then it's basketball: Indiana's week goes sideways with losses at Illinois and a 29-point blowout at Purdue (the biggest margin in the series since 1969). They break down why IU's early offensive stagnation doomed the game, the troubling defensive trendlines, and why the path to the NCAA Tournament is suddenly far narrower than it looked a couple weeks ago.
“God could not be everywhere, so he created Mothers.” This adage could not ring more true when it comes to the life of C.J. Taylor. Her life story could be made into an Oscar-winning biopic, and believe me, it's just a matter of time. She is a divorced single mom of three, an attorney, and a football coach with over 20 years of experience - she is the first female coach in the Snoop Dogg's youth football league, is the Former Director of Football Operations and Assistant Coach at Los Angeles Southwest College, and was an the Junior Varsity HEAD COACH and Assistant Coach on Varsity at Verbum Dei High School, a private all boys school in southern California. She has generated more than 45 millions dollars, sending hundreds of student-athletes to college on scholarships with over 300 NCAA programs including with Marist College, Univ. of Texas, TCU, Vanderbilt, FAMU, LSU, CAL, Boise State, USC, UCLA, Notre Dame, Syracuse and more. She has single handedly raised three tremendously successful children: her daughter Mi-Calynn is a California State Licensed Nurse who is on the front line during the COVID pandemic. Caylin is a 2017 Rhodes Scholar, 2014 Fulbright Scholar, D-1 Student-Athlete and graduate of Texas Christian University, 2019 graduate of Oxford University, a current PhD candidate, and author of the NY Times bestselling memoir, A Dream Too Big. Last but not least Chase Moore, an Archer Fellow, Children's Defense Fund recipient, and a recent D1Student-Athlete at the University of Texas at Austin victor of the 2019 Sugar Bowl, and member of the AFCA Allstate Good Works Team. Though the family has witnessed many glory days, life has not been easy. As written in an ESPN profile by Senior Writer Adam Rittenberg, CJ shares, "We used to have a five-bath, four-bedroom house and seven vehicles. We had what looked like the Cosby life. It was like a Monet: From a distance, it looked beautiful, but up close, it was all messed up." Inside those walls, C.J.'s now ex-husband, Louis Moore, was psychologically abusive toward her. She twice saw him physically abuse Caylin, who was just 2 at the time. In 2000, she left him, taking the children to live with her mother in Carson, on the border of Compton. She filed for divorce but still feared for their safety. She always told her kids: “We may live in the hood, but the hood doesn't live in us.”In 2004, she went to the hospital for heart surgery and came back in even worse shape. She was assaulted while being sedated, and later slipped into a depression. In 2009, her ex-husband was convicted of murder. He had a drunken argument with his girlfriend and fatally shot her with a rifle. After weeks of her kids feeding her and bathing her, her middle child told her, “Get up, Mom. You've got to live. You've got three kids. We need you!” That's exactly what she did and she continues to give every bit of her soul to her children every single day. Today, I am honored to welcome CJ Taylor and her youngest son Chase Moore to the show. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
Southeastern 16's Jay Greeson and Chris Lee preview and predict an outcome on the Indiana-Oregon rematch in the Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl as part of the 25-26 College Football Playoff semifinals. Topics include: Indiana won the first game, 30-20, and did it on the road. Neither team dominated the offensive stat sheet. The first one was outdoors; this one wil be indoors. Both teams have elite coaches; Dan Lanning spent time at Georgia and has built an elite program in Eugene, while Indiana's Curt Cignetti has engineered a stunning turn-around that's the talk of college football. Indiana had a star-studded cast of all-Americans all over the field. That included Heisman-Trophy-winning quarterback Fernando Mendoza, left tackle Carter Smith, defensive tackle Tyrique Tucker, defensive end Stephen Daley, linebacker Aiden Fisher, cornerback DeAngelo Ponds and safety Louis Moore. The Hoosiers were also great on special teams. Kicker Nicolas Radicic hasn't missed a kick in college and Indiana also returned a couple of punts for scores. Oregon has stars in its own right. Quarterback Dante Moore is the top NFL prospect in some circles. Tight end Kenyon Sadiq is versatile and perhaps the top NFL prospect at his position. Offensive lineman Emmanuel Pregnon and Iapani Laloulu were also all-American picks and combined with Sadiq, make Oregon nasty in the trenches. Defensive back Dillon Thineman was also an all-American pick and freshman defensive back Brandon Finney was elite, too. Each team gained 2.5 yards more per play than it gave up. Oregon was great in the turnover battle (forced turnovers on 2.6% of snaps, gave it up at a 1.3% rate) while Indiana (forced them on 3.4% of snaps, gave them up 0.9% of the time) was exceptional. &COLLAR Use promo code SEC16 for 16% off! Galen Clavio delivers a full Indiana vs Alabama preview as the Hoosiers head to Pasadena for the Rose Bowl CFP Quarterfinal. After a quick update on the Stampede To Pasadena Road Trip and other Rose Bowl events, Galen dives into the matchup using advanced statistics and trendlines—what Alabama has (and hasn't) been consistently this season, why Indiana's profile looks so strong across opponent-adjusted metrics, and where the game will swing in the trenches. He breaks down the schedule/strength-of-record debate, what we learned from Alabama's win over Oklahoma, and the biggest tactical pressure points: Indiana's need to establish the run with Kaelon Black and Roman Hemby, Alabama's path to disruption via pressure on Fernando Mendoza, and how Indiana's defense under Bryant Haines can challenge Ty Simpson and Alabama's receiving threats (Germie Bernard, Isaiah Horton, Ryan Williams, Josh Cuevas)—with D'Angelo Ponds and Louis Moore spotlighted on the back end. Alabama and Indiana travel to Los Angeles for a College Football Playoff quarterfinal game in the Rose Bowl on New Year's Day at 3 Central, a game shown on ESPN. The Southeastern 16 crew previews the game. Topics include: The undefeated Hoosiers are the No. 1 seed in the Playoff and are rested after a Big Ten title-game win over Ohio State that vaulted quarterback Fernando Mendoza to the Heisman Trophy, also thanks to protection behind second-team AP All-American tackle Carter Smith. Alabama fell behind 17-0 at Oklahoma but avenged an eariier loss to the Sooners thanks to better special-teams play and a huge pick-6 by cornerback Zabien Brown. The Crimson Tide have to figure out a better rushing attack than they've shown, and must get Jam Miller going if they're going to pull an upset. Alabama quarterback Ty Simpson was money, and got some help from Germie Bernard and Lotzier Brooks vs. Oklahoma. However, the Crimson Tide need a better performance out of Ryan Williams (105 yards receiving in his last five contests) or some other capable offensive player to pull an upset. Indiana had a nice rushing tandem of Kaelon Black (799 yards) and Roman Hemby (918) as well as balance at receiver (804 yards from Omar Cooper Jr., 515 from Charlie Becker and Elijah Surratt's 687). Indiana's defense was elite. The Hoosiers gave up 11.6 points and 259 yards per game and forced turnovers on 3.4% of snaps. Lineman Tyrique Hunter and linebacker Aiden Fisher each earned third-team All-American honors while linebackers Roiijah Hardy (eight sacks) and Isaiah Jones (six) brought the pass rush, and defensive back Louis Moore had eight picks. Sports arenas aren't just for fun and games. They're also arenas where athletes can and have pushed back against oppression, asserted autonomy, and influenced social change at scale. But just how much change can Black athletes create in the capitalistic world of professional sports? History has many answers, as does today's guest, Louis Moore. Lou is a historian, professor, and author. In his latest book, “The Great Black Hope: Doug Williams, Vince Evans, and the Making of the Black Quarterback,” he examines the connection between race and sports and the Black athletes who fought for equality both on and off the field. Hello!Today's episode is about THE GREAT BLACK HOPE, a new book by the historian Louis Moore. We talk about the history of Black quarterbacks, both in college and the NFL, the financial and societal pressures that have both led to change and kept some things the same. On a larger scale, we talk about how sports serves both as a testing ground for ideas about race but also how racism locks in certain ways of thinking. Thanks! This is a public episode. We look at the PFF Grades and the games against the Clemson Tigers and Tennessee Volunteers that put him on the map as a player. We also look at the type of receiver Jaxson Dart will be getting and which receivers he will primarily battle with between Jordan Watkins, Deion Smith and Tre Harris and where his final landing spot should be. In the second segment of the show we talk about the talent being brought in currently and the Wide Receiver Room will not be the only one affected. The DB room for Pete Golding will feature John Saunders trying to fend off a slew of transfer players and a returner in Key Lawrence, Yam Banks and Louis Moore and the returner being Jadon Canady from the Tulane Green Wave In our final segment of the day we talk about Ole Miss and their Grove Bowl and some of the rumors that are going around about how Lane Kiffin looks to make this game unwatchable film wise in 2024. The event promises to be fun but we as fans have goals for that day too and they include watching football. WANT MORE OLE MISS SPORTS CONTENT? Locked On Ole Miss - Daily podcast on Ole Miss Rebels Football, Basketball & Baseball
Today's Locked on Ole Miss podcast we talk about the Ole Miss Rebels Defensive Backs going into the 2024 football season and how Pete Golding is trying to fix the deficiencies the 2023 Ole Miss Defense had. Trey Washington and John Saunders are returning after being a part of the defense at Ole Miss that was the best in a decade potentially. Golding and Lane Kiffin have decided to Improve the defense with Starters from Power programs such as Trey Amos, Amorion Walker, Louis Moore and Key Lawrence in the Transfer Portal as well as a G5 star in Yam Banks. In the second segment of the show we talk about the Cornerback room specifically and look at what Zamari Walton and Deantre Prince were as players and why Chris Graves was a starter vs the Georgia Bulldogs. Ole Miss needed to get more athletic at Cornerback in 2024 and they did just that by bringing in Trey Amos from the Alabama Crimson Tide and Amorion Walker from the Michigan Wolverines. That with the return of Graves and the Signing of JUCO Cedrick Beavers puts Ole Miss and Pete Golding in an advantageous but dangerous position. In our final segment of the day we talk about the safety position with the addition of Moore, Lawrence and Banks but also look at a lottery ticket that Ole Miss has in Jadon Canady from the Tulane Green Wave. This is the position room that will determine Ole Miss' 2024 fate. WANT MORE OLE MISS SPORTS CONTENT? Today's Locked on Ole Miss podcast we talk about the commitment of Walter Nolen from Texas A&M Aggies and what that means for the Ole Miss Football defense in 2024. It is hard not to get excited for a Defensive Line that features Princely Umanmielen of the Florida Gators, JJ Pegues, Walter Nolen and Tyler Baron from the Tennessee Volunteers and they look to be the most dominant Ole Miss Rebels defensive line since 1992 with Tim Bowens and Norman Hand. In the second segment of the show we talk about why the improvement on the Defensive Line will really benefit the rest of the defense and having Linebackers like Chris Paul from the Arkansas Razorbacks, TJ Dudley from the Clemson Tigers and Suntarine Perkins are slated to do some work on the second level. Taz Nicholson from the Illinois Fighting Illini, DeCamerion Richardson from Mississippi State Bulldogs, Key Lawrence from the Oklahoma Sooners, Louis Moore from the Indiana Hoosiers are pieces slated to get that improvement from having a good DL. In our final segment of the day we talk about the Peach Bowl and how important is this game really for Ole Miss going into a 2024 12-Team Playoff season. We talk about while this game is important it is not must win and it is only positive vs the Penn State Nittany Lions. WANT MORE OLE MISS SPORTS CONTENT? Offensive coordinator Walt Bell deserves a lot of blame, but the offense as a whole has struggled to execute.Jackson's play also dipped on Saturday, including a very notable miscue in the third overtime involving Jaylin Lucas. While it was an expected growing pain for Jackson, the key for him, Allen and Bell is learning from it and improving. The show wraps by looking at the positives of the win, including Cam Camper and Christian Turner on the offensive side of the ball. Locked On Hoosiers - Daily Podcast On Indiana Hoosiers Football & Basketball
The Indiana Hoosiers football team came away with a win in four overtimes on Saturday against the Akron Zips, but there was nothing for Tom Allen and his team to celebrate. Against one of the worst teams in the country, the Hoosiers barely escaped with a win in a game that showed a lot about the state of IU's program. On today's episode of Locked on Hoosiers (@LO_Hoosiers), Jacob Rude (@JacobRude) recaps a thoroughly disappointing performance for the Hoosiers against the Zips. Allen walked away from the game frustrated, but it's him who has gotten Indiana to this point.Offensively, IU has no identity and continues to struggle against FBS teams. Despite Tayven Jackson's flashes against Louisville and Cam Camper's re-emergence against Akron, IU continues to focus on the run but can't find lanes for Jaylin Lucas and his backfield counterparts. On the other side of the ball, the Hoosiers at least made big plays with three turnovers, including a pick six from Louis Moore, but also were gouged all night long. DJ Irons looked like prime Michael Vick against IU and that should send all sorts of warning bells.Support Us By Supporting Our Sponsors!NutrafolTake the first step to visibly thicker, healthier hair. The Context of White Supremacy welcomes Dr. Louis Moore. A Professor of History at Grand Valley State University, Dr Moore's research and writing examines the interconnections between race and sports. He is the author of two recently published books, I Fight for a Living: Boxing and the Battle for Black Manhood, 1880-1915 and We Will Win the Day: The Civil Rights Movement, the Black Athlete, and the Quest for Equality. Gus learned a bit more about former black prizefighter Sam Langford. A contemporary of black heavyweight champion Jack Johnson, Gus found out Langford was nicknamed: "The Boston Tar Baby," Smoke," and "The Original Nigger In The Wood Pile." This prompted Gus to dig more. The timing of this broadcast can not be overstated. We just spoke with Suspected Racist Dr. Katherine C. Mooney about her research on White Supremacy and horse racing. Dr. Mooney is cited in I Fight for a Living. Even more, Isaac Murphy and the prominence of 19th and 20th century black jockeys is talked about along side the success of black boxers like "The Boston Tar Baby" and "The Desperate Coon." The latter is a black male boxer who's legal name was lost. These Racist "nicknames" highlight how black males were denied manhood and humanity in spite of their knockout power. Black hunger is a major component of this book. And White homoeroticism and lust for black male bodies. We also hear a fascinating segment about racially ambiguous fighters like Mervine Thompson - who Jack Sullivan outed as having negro blood. This is another great illustration that White people cannot be ignorant about Racism - or racial classifications. #BattleRoyal #TheCOWS14Years INVEST in The COWS – http://paypal.me/TheCOWS Cash App: https://cash.app/$TheCOWS CALL IN NUMBER: 605.313.5164 CODE: 564943#
