After my interview with Kevin & Josie on My Star 99.1, I saw a comment from Ret. Major Mike Connelly about his book Clark the Super Service Dog. Major Connelly served as a MEDEVAC officer and Blackhawk pilot in the Army. Having served in the Middle East he not only came home with physical injuries, but injuries of the mind that are unseen. At A New Leash on Life, Major Connelly found Clark and had him trained to be a service dog. Major Connelly would have Clark in his family for seven years before Clark passed away last Saturday. On tonight's show (8/22), you'll hear from Major Connelly and his effort to bring awareness to the importance of service dogs through his children's book.
Carli Webb had loved writing since the second grade. After she lost her son, she put that passion on hold. At 40, she came back strong with a children's book titled, “Windy's Big Feelings.” On this edition of TMWS, you'll hear Carli's story and where she wants this book to go! I'll also have my segment with Kevin & Josie on My Star 99.1 as I share about Rylee's Big Challenge!

your stories are a gift. your time is a gift. your attention is a gift. and when you share generously with others it can feel like you’re making a connection. but over time, if there isn’t reciprocity, it can start to feel bad and you realize how one sided it’s been. i don’t think that every action requires a response in kind, and we don’t give gifts expecting a return, but when you receive very little it’s hard to keep trying.i’m thinking about where i want to put my energy. and i’m not yet sure how to make that decision, but my energy is limited. and although i feel pulled strongly towards new connections and excited about exploring possibilities, i also want to be better at celebrating my existing connections. particularly the ones that make the effort. and in the same way that i don’t expect every connection i investigate to be mutual, i shouldn’t respond just to respond. i could simply prioritize the ones that i know already feel good and save some energy to continue exploring others.i’m writing this here, and i’m going to try, but damn that allure of potential. perhaps it’s not so simple.DOWNLOAD/STREAM RECORDING00:00 (intro by omar)00:20 LOS JAMBOS “Chico formal” Chicos formales02:12 The Hecks “Flash” My Star07:00 Options “Easy Try” Pacific Notion II08:53 ILL “Bus Shelter” We Are ILL13:34 Simon Joyner “Yellow Jacket” Pocket Moon17:22 Shana Falana “Who We Are” Darkest Light20:42 Dogbreth “Took My Time” Ever Loving23:40 MOURN “Via” Mixtape28:03 Ex-Void “Only One” Only One30:37 HOT SHORTS “Don’t Stop Me If You’ve Heard This One Before” I Understand And I Wish To Continue33:12 The reds, pinks and purples “Anxiety art” Anxiety art35:21 San Cha “Soy Tuya” La Luz de la Esperanza40:44 Banana “Tiny Bones” Post-Grunge Revival44:15 Public Practice “Extra-Ordinary” Disposable & Extra-Ordinary47:52 Water From Your Eyes “Adeleine” Somebody Else’s Song52:05 Amaringo “Sacred” I Woke Up This Morning After a Dream56:46 coastal car “world” are you scared to get happy?59:34 Snail Polish “best you” im worth somthing62:54 Allumette “Somnifuge” Soleil du Gouffre65:56 Cop Circles “Big Business Monkey” Vacation for Hurt69:33 J Camden “Hold Your Breath” The View from Inside the Sun72:13 The Gonks “I’m A Leaker” Five Things You Didn’t Know About The Gonks73:35 Charly Bliss “Supermoon” Supermoon76:39 Telecult “Two Kinds of Escape” Phases78:58 Panoramic “Bug Bites” Spiders // Bug Bites82:27 Mallard “Wubalubadubdub” Believing in Ghosts

We have a special edition of the show today, I had the privilege to talk with Mick Mulroy who was our former Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense, who also served in the CIA as a paramilitary operator, Marine veteran, and is the co-founder of the Loboinstitute. In our discussion we covered a variety of topics such as the role models that have inspired him to do what he's done today, the value Stoicism can bring to our lives, how to deal with adversity, the two lessons that have helped him get through his toughest of times and much more. Outside of Mick's successful military career, Mick has not stopped his selfless service to the world. After his stint as our Deputy Secretary of Defence, he partnered with his long-time friend and retired Navy Seal Eric Oehlerich to create the Lobo Institute. An organization dedicated to ending preventable conflict and child soldiering. Mick is also the comaker of the touching documentary My Star in the Sky, a film retelling the tragic story of 2 child soldiers who through friendship and pure determination make it through the horrors of forced warfare. If you would like to support Mick's mission to end child soldiering please visit https://www.loboinstitute.org/ or simply share his message on social media by spreading the word and telling others about his incredible documentary My Star in the Sky. You can also follow Mick on twitter @MickMulroy. If you enjoyed this episode give us a follow! We release episodes every other week and on Sundays. Tank recently joined us on Instagram Live for an interview to discuss his latest EP “While You Wait”. We spoke about the singer's return to a more traditional R&B sound and how it's been received so far. The discussion then turned to the evolution of his sound and how hard it is to convince every one of his fans to buy into it. Finally, we reflected on his amazing song “You're My Star” and classic album “Sex, Love & Pain”. Check out what he had to say!
Assistant Director Ari Mejia chats at the Chirp studios with Andrew, Zach, and Jeff of Chicago band The Hecks. They revisit their last interview with Chirp from 2015, talk about why their incredible album My Star took 3 years to make, and the way memory influences their sound. It’s been awhile, so I’m giving you more than three hours of continuous music to make up the difference. The new callout drops are courtesy of the Soul Interviews show curated by DJ Soulswede and broadcast on SkyNet satellite radio and Solar Radio on the net. My lil podcast has a special 30-minute mix on the show that you should be checking out. For this mix, I chose the best songs from our radio show. As usual, we’ve got a lil bit of everything on the soul spectrum (all but one special selection was released this millennium), this time broken up by sections, thanks to the drops, making it easier to skip around for a certain sound you’re looking for or you can just listen straight through and relax in my musical hands. Don’t forget to subscribe on Podomatic or iTunes and tell your friends that the LMG: The Soul Eclectics’ Mix, proves good music is still alive and well, if not always on the radio.
