Jake Longly, ex-pro baseball player turned restauranteur, is back where he belongs: relaxing on the beach in front of his restaurant in Gulf Shores, Alabama. His peace is interrupted, however, when he receives a call from his private investigator father—April Wilkerson has gone missing from Lindemann Farms, the rustic, yet posh, resort built by self-help and financial guru Jonathon Lindemann. Lindemann, founder of The Lindemann Method (TLM), recruits wealthy people to join his program, charging a hefty entry fee but in return promising huge financial gains and self-enlightenment. Jake's celebrity status makes him the best person for the case. When Jake and his girlfriend, Nicole, go on an undercover visit to Lindemann Farms, some suspicious activity makes them wonder about the legitimacy of TLM. Soon, a private conversation with one of the girls hired to work at the resort reveals their unorthodox, and immoral, recruitment methods. As the layers peel away, darker edges appear. Does Jonathon truly make money for his investors, or is he a scam artist? Is April merely the latest in a series of missing young women? Jake and Nicole need to find her, and soon, before TLM catches wind of their true reasons for visiting the farm. Or what about building the Orion spacecraft that just finished a 25-day trip around the Moon, and will carry astronauts on its next mission? In Pathfinder #0028, we'll get the answers to those questions and a whole lot more with Robert Lightfoot, the executive vice president of Lockheed Martin Space and former acting NASA administrator. Today's episode is brought by Altek Space, which provides custom manufacturing of essential parts and components for rockets and satellites (including SmallSats). Find out more at https://www.altek-inc.com/space Robert leads the LM Space business, which is one of the four major divisions of its parent company. The $11 billion business line builds space technology systems for defense, civil, and commercial space customers. Its portfolio ranges from integrated systems for satellites to space-based missile defense capabilities to space observatories to interplanetary robotic spacecraft. Robert became EVP of LM Space on Jan. 1, 2022, so he's coming up on his one-year anniversary. Prior to Lockheed, Robert spent 29 years at NASA, holding a variety of leadership roles and rising up the ranks to become associate administrator, the highest ranking civil service position at the agency. This is an episode that we've been looking forward to for months. We wanted to have Paul on because he wrote and cowrote a couple of papers which we love, including "Metal additive manufacturing in aerospace: A review." It's simply fantastic, providing a great overview of what is going on in metal 3D printing in the aerospace sector. Another favorite is "Robust Metal Additive Manufacturing Process Selection and Development for Aerospace Components." Both are available to view for free. Do yourself a favor and read the papers! Recently, Paul also cowrote the book Additive Manufacturing for Propulsion Applications, which I'm very much looking forward to reading. This was an amazing podcast with a great deal of discussion about 3D printing in space, process selection, materials like GRCop-42, and more. You're going to love this.

Brian is the CEO of Solstar Space Company where they are working to create a ‘Space Wide Web’ to connect everything in space, to everyone on Earth. Solstar’s mission is to build and create the tools necessary to enable 24/7 secure, economical, convenient, two-way, internet-based communications with every “thing” in space, to be the ISP of choice in Earth Orbit and beyond. “We are able to provide a Wi-Fi connection for payloads, and payload specialists, as well as future astronauts, during take off, landing and throughout their spaceflight. In 2018 we sent the first commercial Tweet from Space. Imagine the first phone call during a commercial flight, the first selfie sent from the Kármán line, and the first instant results from payloads on-board a commercial spacecraft. Solstar Space Company can make that happen.” -Brian Barnett   NASA has government-supplied wi-fi for the current astronauts. But what about when commercial astronauts and you and I go to space? We’re going to want to be wi-fi connected, too- along with rovers, robots wi-fi enabled payloads to be connected, too. Brian’s company, Solstar Space, if working on providing world-class customer service, and we believe that this will revolutionize “We enable you to do things for the first time in space. There are an infinite number of things people can do for the first time in space! We did the first commercial wi-fi in space, and the first commercial tweet in space, and I want to fly the first drumsticks in space as the first drummer!” -Brian Barnett from the Casual Space Podcast “Solstar is providing a commercial wi-fi service that people can purchase. More and more people will be flying in space, and wi-fi will be used for things in space- laptops, smartphones, wearable devices that astronauts will want to stay connected to.”- Brian Barnett from the Casual Space Podcast    About Brian Barnett:  Brian Barnett  barnett@solstarspace.com Brian Barnett is a serial entrepreneur with 33 years’ experience in commercial space, the mobile satellite services industry, as a aerospace technologies at NASA, and at KPMG Consulting as a management consultant.  He is Founder and CEO of Solstar Space Co., the first internet service provider for people, Internet of things and machines in space is that is developing technologies to build a Space Wide Web. Robert G. Kennedy, Dr. Gregory L. Matloff, Les Johnson, Dr. Ben Davis and Phillip R. Cox are today's featured guests. Topic: Building a Dyson Dot, which is a very small segment of a Dyson Sphere.  A Dyson Sphere is an object Freeman Dyson suggested we look for if we wish to discover alien civilizations in our galaxy. It is a spherical device which completely surrounds a star, and collects all the radiant energy from the star so the energy can be used by the civilization which built it.  Such objects would be large and glow brightly in the infrared.  Sub-topics: Reasons we should build a Dyson Dot (it would solve for Global Climate Change and pay for itself by providing our civilization with more energy than we currently use); reasons we should not build a Dyson Dot (it may break space treaties and it's scary-big); and the engineering hurdles its construction would require us to overcome. Hosted by Stephen Euin Cobb, this is the March 13, 2013 episode of The Future And You. [Running time: 55 minutes] This panel was recorded on July 21, 2012 in Chattanooga Tenn, at the science fiction and fantasy convention LibertyCon. Robert G. He has consulted for the NASA Marshall Space Flight Center, is a Fellow of the British interplanetary Society, is a Hayden Associate at the American Museum of Natural History, and is a Corresponding Member of the International Academy of Astronautics. Dr. Ben Davis earned his PhD in Nuclear Physics from the University of Notre Dame. For several years he then taught mathematics, programming, astronomy and physics. Les Johnson, Dr. Gregory L. Matloff, Stephanie Osborn, and Phillip R. Cox are today's featured speakers. Topic: (1) The ways in which we will all suffer if we lose all of our satellites, and (2) the well-researched dangers which could destroy or disable all of our satellites. IE: Why it is that without satellites cell phones would not function, credit card transactions could not be processed, the Internet would shut down in many areas and be slow and unreliable in places which remain online, and all GPS navigation would go dead. Also, some of the many ways we might lose our satellites such as: a repeat of the Carrington Event (a devastating solar flair in 1859), the hundred thousand pieces of space junk in earth orbit today, a catastrophic chain reaction in which the existing space junk suddenly multiplies a thousand fold, and of course satellite destruction through terrorism and space war. Hosted by Stephen Euin Cobb, this is the August 15, 2012 episode of The Future And You. [Running time: 58 minutes] This panel was recorded on July 21, 2012 before a live audience in Chattanooga Tennessee at the science fiction and fantasy convention: LibertyCon.
