Comrades Andrea Haverkamp, Nick Fisher, Tim and Joe Clement join Laborwave Radio for another series of Comrades Read! We dig into the "Rank and File Strategy" a popular 30-page pamphlet written by Kim Moody in 2000 for the publication Solidarity. We provide a summary of Moody's argument, that socialists are marginal in labor unions and therefore need to create "transitional organizations" to insert radical activity into unions and build toward a larger international socialist organization, and also talk through our points of agreement, departure, and the possible limits of the rank and file strategy. Comrades challenged the idea that unions need to build toward a "socialist party" apparatus, while others acknowledged Moody's emphasis on focusing where we have current capacity in the working-class and therefore the rank and file strategy gives us a pathway for contemporary conditions. You voted, we listened and this week we watched "James and the Giant Peach" which is based on the book by Roald Dahl, a name you likely recognize from some of your favorite and most nightmare-inducing childhood stories. Following the tragedy of his parents being gobbled up by a smoky Rhino, young James must live with his horrible aunts, Spiker and Sponge who delight in tormenting the boy. One day an old(ish) man offers James the chance to escape through an adventure beyond his wildest dreams with the aid of some magical rigatoni (a.k.a. James makes new friends with a crew of bugs and together they set out on a journey for New York City, the place where dreams come true. Sure. Along the way we are treated to some Randy Newman songs, impressive animation sequences and a cameo by a familiar stop-motion icon. We all loved reliving this classic, we hope you do too! Dale Perry, owner of Evolution Outdoors, gives listeners insight into the design process for his latest broadheads, Jekyll & Hyde.   The Evolution of Jekyll & HydeAfter inventing the original GraveDigger Broadhead, I had to be innovative and creative in order to compete with myself when designing JEKYLL & HYDE. A great product always provides a solution to a problem. One obstacle many hunters face, especially when traveling to hunt, is that each state has their own broadhead regulations. I thought it would be helpful if a bowhunter could easily convert their mechanical broadhead to a fixed in a matter of seconds. This eliminates the need to shoot different broadheads in different states. With that in mind, I developed the first of its kind, patent-pending, interchangeable ferrule; allowing the hunter to choose a fixed or mechanical setup based on their hunt. During development and extensive testing, I found that the arrow mechanics and flight pattern did not change between the two configurations. Using today’s technology, I was able to create a better, patent-pending, blade locking system that ensures consistent deployment every time. With that, the HYDE was born. Knowing I had the pleasure of designing a fixed blade broadhead as well, I add a second one-inch fixed blade creating atypical four blade cut, known as the JEKYLL. We are truly committed to produce and stand behind the highest quality products in the world. With our high standards in quality and machining we continue to use our local expert, Nick Fisher, from AAE, in Prescott, Arizona. With Nick’s working knowledge of machining and archery, the quality and workmanship are top notch. Our processes are evolving as technology changes and our products are tested to the highest standards. We strive to always be at the leading edge in quality, innovation, and customer service. Many people believe that they need self-confidence in order to start working towards their dream. The reality is that self-confidence only starts building once you've started working towards your dream. This thinking trap cages most entrepreneurs and paralyzes them from the action. In today's episode, I sat down with Nick Fisher to discuss self-confidence, the thinking trap that plagues most entrepreneurs and how to systematically build self-confidence no matter who you are.
