It's Wednesday, so we're talking politics on City Cast Philly. State Representative Jared Solomon of Northeast Philly is sometimes referred to as a “reformer.” Why? He wants to ban Pennsylvania state lawmakers from getting gifts from people who are trying to curry their favor. He wants to term limits for congressional representatives. And he wants to eliminate Philly's long-troubled sheriff's office. In this wide-ranging interview at his law office in Center City, Solomon talks about why he's committed to reform, what's happening with the Roosevelt Boulevard SEPTA project, and how – maybe most controversially – he says people should go to the Northeast for the best and cheapest restaurants in the city. It's been a long time coming, but Dan finally sits down with Bruce Warren, recently retired program director from WXPN, Philadelphia's non-commercial radio station. Bruce talks about growing up in Northeast Philly, getting turned on by Philly soul, Motown, The Beatles, etc, starting a music zine to get into shows for free, and taking a random late night DJ shift at a burgeoning college radio station would change his entire life. Dan and Bruce share their experiences in the restaurant industry (Bruce's gig before he found a life in radio), the changes at WXPN over his 35 years, the amazing people he gets to call colleagues, and what he plans to do with his time now that he's retiring. Kelly McAllister reopened We Rock the Spectrum - Northeast Philly in July 2021. It has been successfully open and serving the community for over a year now. Kelly has a degree in business and marketing that she earned from Penn State University. The vast majority of her experience has been in the hospitality and franchise industry for over 10 years. All of her work has revolved around the community and she believes that a strong focus on this is the key to successful relationship building. Her husband, Sean, was born and raised in the Parkwood neighborhood and most of their extended family still resides there as well. Kelly and Sean are extremely passionate about family and have three sons of their own: Logan (6), Jackson (3) and Cameron (1.5).
