October may be over, but that does not mean there is no more horror news. Friday the 13th is one of the most well known horror franchises of all time. The news of a prequel for the series was met with excitement, but we talk about some worries we have. This is not the case with the photo for Evil Dead Rise. We talk about the new movie and the history of the series. And we talk about the latest movie coming from the mind behind the Winnie the Pooh horror movie.Australia is home for some of the most creative and fun genre movies in the history of cinema. Director Mark Hartley's Not Quite Hollywood is a fantastic look at its history, so we were looking forward to his latest thriller. Girl at the Window is about a high school student named Amy and her mom who have moved in to a new home. Amy soon begins to worry that her next door neighbor is a serial killer. It is a familiar premise that is rife with possibilities. We talk about tropes of the genre, the use of gore in the movie, and its tone. The film also has a plot twist that throws everything off kilter. But was this a bad thing or just something we had to adjust to? We also debate where Amy ranks as one of the worst protagonists of the year. Our feature presentation is a sleeper hit that everyone has been talking about while not saying anything. Barbarian seems to have been a topic of conversation since it first hit theaters. Surprisingly - and thankfully- we were able to see the movie without any of it being spoiled for us. A big part of the movie is the suspense it creates. We had mixed feelings on how well this was kept over the course of the entire movie. One thing we agreed on is how uncomfortable things can get. Events of the film notwithstanding, we also talk about the possibility of Bill Skarsgard in romantic comedies. Also, one of us has a newfound respect for Justin Long.Adventures in Movies! is a part of the Morbidly Beautiful Podcast Network. Morbidly Beautiful is your one stop shop for all your horror needs. Happy Labor Day! This week Josh and Drusilla go down under for the Australian banger, Next of Kin. From Wikipedia: " Next of Kin is a 1982 Australian horror film co-written and directed by Tony Williams, and starring Jackie Kerin and John Jarratt.[2][3][4] The film was featured in the documentary Not Quite Hollywood where it was praised by Quentin Tarantino.[5]"Josh and Dru have some arguments about film scores, nostalgia, and what constitutes Giallo. But first! Peter Lorre in Mad Love, Abel Ferrara's The Projectionist, Times Square (1980), and the Alans (Moyle and Arkush.)  Next week's movie is Hammer's Frankenstein Created Woman. Website: http://www.bloodhauspod.com Twitter: https://twitter.com/BloodhausPodInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/bloodhauspod/Email: bloodhauspod@gmail.comDrusilla's art: https://www.sisterhydedesign.com/Drusilla's Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/hydesister/Drusilla's Letterboxd: https://letterboxd.com/drew_phillips/Joshua's website: https://www.joshuaconkel.com/Joshua's Twitter: https://twitter.com/JoshuaConkel Joshua's Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/joshua_conkel/Joshua's Letterboxd: https://letterboxd.com/joshuaconkel/

Ian and David get strapped to the hood of an Outback death machine--all in the name of reviewing Mario Andreacchio's 1986 cult film, Fair Game!Cassandra Delaney stars as the proprietor of a remote Australian animal preserve who runs afoul of three randy and ill-tempered kangaroo poachers. Can she survive a bloody night of terror, torture, and totally unnecessary animal cruelty?More importantly, can your intrepid critics stay awake long enough to see what all the fuss is about?Lucky you, the answer is "yes"--but just barely. To ease the heartache of watching that rare and unholy oddity known as the "boring exploitation" movie, the guys also review Mark Hartley's superb and truly out-there 2008 documentary, Not Quite Hollywood, which tracks the rise and fall of Australia's exploitation boom!Watch as Ian and David break down what doesn't work about Fair Game; why it may have developed a following despite its not being very good; and what we can learn about bad genre films by watching great ones!Fair Game (1986) is now available On Demand from Dark Sky Pictures. Not Quite Hollywood is now available on Amazon Prime. The Fellowship is pleased to present our discussion of the Fantastic Four on or around the 60th anniversary of their debut. They've been a great vehicle for a wide array of stories (and villains), and maybe some cool stuff in the pipeline? Plus some random talk and our usual tangents
What is better than gratuitous violence, nudity, outrageous stunts, wild plots and a whole ton of Aussies? Absolutely nothing. The Dudes discuss Not Quite Hollywood a documentary about the Australian Exploitation films of the 1970's and 80's. If you're into all that then this doc is absolutely for you. --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/threedudespod/message
We're back down under for another Australian natural horror film. This time, we're dealing with a giant saltwater crocodile in Dark Age, released July 10th, 1987. It's gained quite a large cult following and has even been called the "Australian Jaws"! We've enlisted British streamer BenPepsi to check it out. Born in England, where his Australian father was in the RAF, Trenchard-Smith attended UK's prestigious Wellington College, where he neglected studies in favor of acting and making short films, before migrating to Australia. He started as a news film editor, then graduated to network promos before he became one of a group of young people that, as he recalls, "pushed, shoved, lobbied and bullied the government into introducing investment for Australian made films." He persuaded Australia's largest distribution-exhibition circuit at the time, the Greater Union Theater Organization, to form an in-house production company that he would run. The company made three successful films in a row, and his career was underway. In parallel careers, he was also founding editor of Australia's quarterly Movie magazine for 6 years, and has made over 100 trailers for other directors in Australia, Europe, and America. Among early successes were The Man From Hong Kong, a wry James Bond/Chop Sockey cocktail, the Vietnam battle movie Siege Of Firebase Gloria, and the futuristic satire Dead End Drive-In, a particular Tarantino favorite. BMX Bandits, showcasing a 15-year old Nicole Kidman, won the Prix Chouette in Europe, as Best Saturday Matinee Movie. Miramax's The Quest/Frog Dreaming, starring ET's Henry Thomas, now on Blu Ray, won a prize at Montreal's Children's Film Festival. He has directed 43 episodes of television series as diverse as Silk Stalkings, Time Trax, Five Mile Creek, The Others, Flipper, Chemistry, and the Showtime docu-drama DC 9/11: Time Of Crisis, one of five movies he made for the network. Among Trenchard-Smith's recent films are Long Lost Son, starring Gabrielle Anwar and Chace Crawford for Lifetime, and the family drama disaster movie Arctic Blast., starring Michael Shanks and Bruce Davison, which premiered on Spanish television as the number 1 movie with a 15.6 market share, and more than 2.5 million viewers. In Dublin he shot The Cabin, a rom-com starring Lea Thompson for the Hallmark Channel. He produced and directed Absolute Deception, a thriller starring Academy Award Winner Cuba Gooding Jr. Recently released through Image is Drive Hard, an offbeat action comedy with John Cusack as the bank robber and Thomas Jane as his reluctant driver. His body of work has been honored at the Paris Cinema, Karlovy Vary, Melbourne, Brisbane and Toronto Film Festivals. In 2016 he received a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Fantaspoa International Fantastic Film Festival. The National Film and Sound Archive of Australia recently hosted a three city retrospective of his films. He is a member of the Masters of Horror Circle, and is a contributing guru to Trailers From Hell. He is married to Byzantine historian Dr. Margaret Trenchard-Smith, and lives in Portland, Oregon. His debut novel Alice Through The Multiverse was published in 2018. His new book Adventures in the B Movie Trade is now available on Amazon and Kindle.
