In this weeks' episode, Oat Milk Money, we want to know what grocery item you'd continue buying no matter the price. You might be surprised by some of the answers. If you could name your brain, what name would you give it and why? Do you think maybe you'd talk to yourself more than you already do? When someone says something that just grinds your gears, how do you stop it from happening? Do they change? Do you change? Both? We also want to know what things you're talking about these days. Send us a textRemember those carefree days of the 90s, when our biggest worry was catching our favorite movie on VHS? We take you on a trip down memory lane as we hilariously unpack the quirks and absurdities of "Milk Money," starring Melanie Griffith and Ed Harris. As we reminisce about our youthful adventures pedaling through suburban streets, we can't help but chuckle over our past misconceptions about the film's plot and the bizarre misadventures of its characters. Get ready for a laughter-filled discussion as we debate the merits of 90s cinema and the surprising mix-ups involving Anne Heche's roles. Our curiosity doesn't stop with the big screen; we dive into the classic myth of a deadly penny drop from the Empire State Building, only to debunk it with a nod to science. There's also an exciting detour into a fictional movie narrative, complete with treehouses and mysterious time capsules. Through playful banter and a touch of comedic genius, we explore character backstories, such as Frank's battle with grief, and sprinkle in some hilariously relatable suburban oddities, like clogged drains and household plumbing fiascos. In a rollercoaster of plot twists, we dissect the peculiar family dynamics and comedic chaos in "Milk Money," questioning everything from steering wheel removals to quirky character motivations. Our critique is lighthearted yet insightful as we ponder the strange romantic entanglements and questionable parenting choices that defined 90s teen flicks. With a nod to magazine nostalgia and the anticipation of watching "Freejack" next, we keep the laughs coming and invite you to join us for another trip into classic 90s film territory. Don't forget to like, subscribe, and prepare for more entertaining nostalgia in our upcoming episodes!Written lovingly with AIBe our friend!Dan: @shakybaconTony: @tonydczechAnd follow the podcast on IG: @hatewatchingDAT
Anne and Ryan discuss Sean Baker's Palme d'Or winner, ANORA starring Mikey Madison and Mark Eydelshteyn. When Brooklyn stripper Ani (Madison) meets and impulsively weds the mega-wealthy Ivan (Eydelshteyn), a madcap adventure ensues as Ivan's family desperately attempts to annul the marriage. ANORA finds Baker executing his gritty style at a larger and more accessible scale than before, resulting in a near-unanimously praised awards contender. But does Mama Needs a Movie ador-a ANORA, or do we think ANORA is a snore-a? Listen to our discussion of Baker's latest along with with diversions into Woman of the Hour, Milk Money, Last Night in Soho, Kenji Mizoguchi, the Safdie brothers, the Duplass brothers, the Coen brothers, and much, much more! I had the pleasure of meeting Nash at a dinner party I went to recently with a beautiful room full of amazing women. We sat next to each other and instantly connected. She's warm, funny, engaging and super driven! I immediately followed up so that I could have her share her story on this podcast. We recorded at her store, Milk Money in Wellesley, MA. It's filled with jewelry, clothing, accessories and fun home items! When we sat down Nash explained what she was trying to achieve with the store, just one of the many businesses she's run since her 20's. She's been a publisher, publicist, store owner and more. When faced with any new opportunity/challenge it's like she says "oh I can do this" and she does! Cute Clothing Online | Popular Women's Clothing at Milk Money

Milk Money Directed by Richard Benjamin Starring Melanie Griffith, Ed Harris Three young boys pool their money and pay V (Melanie Griffith), a kindhearted prostitute, to strip for them. Afterward, she drives them home to the suburbs -- but then her car breaks down. It's just as well, though, because a mobster named Waltzer (Malcolm McDowell) is after her, and V realizes the suburbs are the perfect place to hide. But things get a lot more complicated when V falls in love with Tom (Ed Harris), a single father who is unaware of her real profession.

Uncommon Ambience: At the Movies, Caddyshack. Country club early morning ambience. You are amongst the well-kept grounds, and here is the sun peaking over the area flora. Water is hurling spastically. The birds are turbo-charged. Off in the distance, someone is tending to the greens of Hole 6. This week's episode focuses on the first forty-five seconds of Caddyshack. Before the mayhem and the gopher. Before Kenny Loggin's guitar. Caddyshack opens with a brief moment of intoxicating calm. A sea of stars suddenly swirl with ethereal voices. The voices aren't speaking language; they are just calling out, chanting, as the stars become a logo for Orion Pictures. And then we open to our own star rising above the Bushwood County Club. Water spurtting all about. And now a maraca is accompanying the chants. It's a lovely forty-five seconds. And the focus of this episode. Eight hours of blissful morning grounds upkeep (don't sweat the continuity issues). And no worries about being bullied out by rich people. Or threatened by a scary groundskeeper. This is pre-golf bliss. Can I go back for a second? Watch the star animation for Orion Pictures. The stars so fluidly decouple their constellation and form a circle. Yet the anchor point placement for the circling stars winds up clumsily rotating like a wagon wheel. I recognize how hard the effect must have been to accomplish in the eighties. But y'all nailed the rest of the animation, why botch it on the finale? Finally, the chanting voices. You won't find them in this weeks episode because copyrights and whatever — but if you would like to experience them in a different context, J Dilla gives the chants a starring role in “Milk Money.” Photo used in this week's movie poster graphic by Thomas Ward (Pexels).
Your Stupid Minds returns to its loose theme of “Sicko Movies from the 1990s” (see: Blank Check, Milk Money, First Kid) with the hilarious premise of “what if an adult woman married a child as a joke?” It's 1994's Holy Matrimony, starring Patricia Arquette, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, and Tate Donovan. After a life-changing carnival-money heist executed by Havana (Arquette) and her boyfriend Peter (Donovan), the pair retreat to a Canadian Hutterite community to lay low until the heat dies down. Peter is a former member of the community pretending he wants to return to the fold. In order to stay, he and Havana must marry. But when he dies in a car accident, due to their levirate marriage tradition (based on Deuteronomy 25:5), Havana must marry Peter's 12 year old brother Zeke (Gordon-Levitt) or be cast out. Since she wants to find her heist money, she calls their bluff and marries the child. The movie descends into some second act zaniness where she learns the value of hard work (or doesn't), then they must go back to the United States to return the money, and are pursued by a corrupt FBI agent Markoski (John Schuck). Will they return the money? Will anyone learn a lesson? Is this movie as gross as the premise implies? You'll have to listen to find out!

Asylum Seekers Left Stranded Outside Hotel Draws National Attention To NYC's Migrant Crisis New York City has seen an unprecedented influx of migrants in need of assistance over the past couple of years, with that trend culminating in a high-profile debacle outside the Roosevelt Hotel, where migrants were left stranded on the sidewalk. Throughout last week, images of over 150 migrants sleeping outside the sidewalk of the apparently full midtown hotel (which had been converted to an emergency shelter) sparked national media attention as NYC Mayor Eric Adams' office declared the city's beds full. The migrants unceremoniously were moved on Wednesday night according to reporting from Gothamist and other outlets, apparently housed with the assistance of faith-based nonprofits and advocacy groups. More than 56,000 migrants are currently housed in the city's shelter system in widely reported poor conditions. An additional emergency shelter appears to be coming online in the Sunset Park neighborhood of Brooklyn, which will be added to the more than 200 locations serving migrants. Exacerbating the crisis is that the influx of migrants (many of whom may legally qualify for asylum) comes as the Governor of New York estimates a housing shortage of approximately 800,000 units. Born in NYC way back in 1938 to a garment district worker, Richard Benjamin met his wife to this very day, fellow actress Paula Prentiss, and would appear with her in several theatrical, filmic and televised roles (starting with late 60s sitcom He & She, oft referenced as a template for the iconic Mary Tyler Moore show.) This short lived but critically beloved series kicked off a long career in both comedic and dramatic cinematic roles that began with 1969's box office smash Goodbye Columbus alongside Ali McGraw, and went on to include such cultural touchstones as Catch 22, Diary of a Mad Housewife, Portnoy's Complaint and Westworld. Later works included the wide ranging Buck Henry science fiction satire Quark (which took on everything from Star Trek, Star Wars and 2001 to Zardoz in its all too brief late 70s run), Love at First Bite, Scavenger Hunt and How to Beat the High Co$t of Living, before moving into an exclusively directorial role with the Peter O'Toole vehicle My Favorite Year, and a short run of successful comedies like Tom Hanks' Money Pit, Melanie Griffith's Milk Money, Whoopi Golberg/Ted Danson film Made in America and the Cher/Winona Ryder hit Mermaids. In this podcast I discuss an offer I found through US Bank where the bank is offering select clients $5, yes FIVE WHOLE DOLLARS to use Zelle 2x. What I see as a lacking gesture is also a way to fudge the numbers of "alternative ways to bank" to justify limiting staff and branches going forward. Giving clients a small pittance in order for you to save millions over the years sounds like a bet US Bank wants to take. I discuss how even people on the Right side of the aisle should heed the calls from their financial experts on the radio that Zelle is bad news so we can all band together and fight back against Zelle. Hey, at least that $5 will offset the $3,000 you lose through ZELLE Fraud lol Link to deal here Plus, I try to compromise with Zelle. I think you all know by now that I am writing a book on this topic, and frankly, there are a lot of things that I see that no one else is seeing. While I want it to go away permanently, I know that may not be practical, so I discuss in the second segment a compromise that will allow Zelle to operate, protect at-risk clients, and still make it instant for them to send family money while protecting them and the banks as a whole. At last we could get out to record a show in-person with the lifting of some restrictions, here in Illinois. We still followed distancing guidelines and this edition has The Brit and co-host Ken McMullen (@Hopvine Brewing Company) in the same room, but also apart from our guest, Head Brewer, Erik Pizer. We finally got our chance to visit newly opened Milk Money Brewing, and we found that they are doing GREAT things with food and beer at this LaGrange brewpub. Of course, we sampled some of their offerings while we chatted to Erik on many topics...you know how it goes when you have beer with someone! Almost back to normal...finally!

Four Corners (Soft Skull Press) Writing under the pen name of Wally Rudolph, writer/actor Walter Wong (best known for his role as Chris 'V-Lin' Von Lin on Sons of Anarchy) drops readers into the bare-knuckled world of Frank Bruce, a 37-year-old meth addict tangled up crime, drugs, and his far-too-young fiancé, Maddie. Struggling to be a decent man and leave his toxic life behind, Frank's attempt to save his best friend's son from the child's violent grandfather turns into nightmare of drugs, kidnapping, and corruption. Set in the striking southwestern landscape of New Mexico, Colorado, Utah and Arizona, Wally creates a cast of unfortunate, marginalized characters and tells their story with dignity, compassion, and in their own unflinching words. PRAISE FOR FOUR CORNERS "Wally Rudolph's meth-and-cocaine-addled protagonists reel through a nonstop catastrophe of violence, flight, and revenge, too self-destructive to have anything more than a prayer--but they are real. They suffer and love and worship, however crazily. The action is urgent and compelling, the details are as crisp as the light that falls on Santa Fe. Wally knows the territory. And the territory is the human heart." --Jack Butler, Pulitzer Prize Nominee for Living in Little Rock with Miss Little Rock "Four Corners is a book that will stay with me for a long time, an outstanding first novel by a writer unafraid to scrape the crud off the floor of the human psyche. The best kind of crime fiction." --Scott Phillips, author of The Ice Harvest and Hop Alley Born in Canada to Jamaican immigrant parents, Wally Rudolph smoked marijuana for the first time at the age of fourteen, beginning a fifteen-year affair with illicit drugs that had him drop out of college and took him back and fourth across the American Midwest. His fiction has been published in Milk Money, Lines+Stars, The Brooklyner, and others. A graduate of The Second City Conservatory in Chicago, he now resides with his family in Los Angeles. As an actor, he has appeared in numerous films and TV shows including "Street Kings," "Bang Bang," and "Sons of Anarchy."
