(The Center Square) – Illinois legislators return Saturday for the start of the final days of the 103rd General Assembly. One Republican legislator says that's an opportunity to address economic concerns for taxpayers. State Rep. Jed Davis, R-Newark, said he's excited for the so-called “lame duck session.” “So I'm like, ‘let's roll up our sleeves and get to work,'” Davis told The Center Square. “We've got a lot of work to do. We've got looming budget deficits. We've got families that are struggling to put food on the tables. I mean, this inflation is out of control.” Davis notes that Illinois is among the states with the highest tax burdens. He also noted a recent Governor's Office of Management and Budget report showing the coming fiscal year that starts July 1 with an estimated $3 billion deficit.

The Rich Zeoli Show- Hour 2: 4:00pm- While speaking with Benny Johnson, Senator Mike Lee (R-UT) condemned the proposed stopgap spending bill and stated that there should be new leadership in the House of Representatives—suggesting that the next Speaker of the House should be Elon Musk or Vivek Ramaswamy, noting that the Speaker does not need to be a member of the House according to the Constitution. 4:10pm- Republicans Propose New Stopgap Spending Bill. In a post to Truth Social, president-elect Donald Trump wrote: “SUCCESS in Washington! Speaker Mike Johnson and the House have come to a very good Deal for the American People. The newly agreed to American Relief Act of 2024 will keep the Government open, fund our Great Farmers and others, and provide relief for those severely impacted by the devastating hurricanes. A VERY important piece, VITAL to the America First Agenda, was added as well—The date of the very unnecessary Debt Ceiling will be pushed out two years, to January 30, 2027. Now we can Make America Great Again, very quickly, which is what the People gave us a mandate to accomplish. All Republicans, and even the Democrats, should do what is best for our Country, and vote ‘YES' for this Bill, TONIGHT!” 4:15pm- House to Hold Vote on Stopgap Bill By 6pm? Catie Edmondson of The New York Times reports: “House Republican leaders are putting forward a new plan to avert a government shutdown. That measure, as described by a person familiar with the proposal, would keep government funding flowing at current levels through March 14, extend the farm bill for one year, add disaster aid and suspend the debt ceiling for two years. One Republican leaving Johnson's office, Representative Anna Paulina Luna of Florida, said she believes House Republican leaders want to vote on the proposal as early as 6 p.m.” You can read more on this developing story here: https://www.nytimes.com/live/2024/12/19/us/trump-spending-government-shutdown/d6b9c7d4-7760-50ad-ae70-2b4ab5e27790?smid=url-share 4:30pm- The ladies of The View suggested that Elon Musk is controlling Donald Trump and J.D. The Rich Zeoli Show- Full Episode (12/19/2024): 3:05pm- F.A.A. Finally Bans Drones from Flying Near Critical Infrastructure in NJ. Tracey Tull of The New York Times reports: “The Federal Aviation Administration has issued a monthlong ban on drone flights over a large swath of New Jersey, the first broad prohibition of its kind since the authorities began investigating a spate of sightings last month that set off fear and speculation. The ban began late on Wednesday and will continue through Jan. 17, according to an F.A.A. alert. The notification cited ‘special security reasons' for prohibiting flights in airspace near 22 New Jersey communities, including three of the state's largest cities, Camden, Elizabeth and Jersey City.” You can read the full article here: https://www.nytimes.com/2024/12/19/nyregion/faa-bans-drone-flights-new-jersey.html 3:10pm- Rich wonders: why did the F.A.A. decide to ban drones from flying near critical infrastructure all of a sudden? And why didn't they do this weeks ago when New Jersey residents first started reporting sightings of mysterious drones? Rich suspects the ban will do absolutely nothing to prevent drones from pestering NJ residents. 3:20pm- After pressure from Donald Trump, J.D. Vance, and Elon Musk, the massive 1,547-page stopgap spending bill was pulled from the House floor. With the proposed bipartisan continuing resolution bill seemingly shelved, Congress will need to craft a new piece of legislation in order to avoid a government shutdown at midnight on Friday. 3:40pm- Late night host Jimmy Kimmel proudly declared he has “Trump Derangement Syndrome”—and wonders why more people don't have “TDS.” No wonder his ratings aren't impressive. When will Jimmy Failla get his own weekday late night show? Will it be Spring—early Spring? mid-Spring? late-Spring??? 4:00pm- While speaking with Benny Johnson, Senator Mike Lee (R-UT) condemned the proposed stopgap spending bill and stated that there should be new leadership in the House of Representatives—suggesting that the next Speaker of the House should be Elon Musk or Vivek Ramaswamy, noting that the Speaker does not need to be a member of the House according to the Constitution. 4:10pm- Republicans Propose New Stopgap Spending Bill. Tonight on The Last Word: The House Ethics Committee meeting ends with no agreement on the Matt Gaetz report. Also, the Manhattan district attorney plans to oppose Donald Trump's efforts to dismiss the hush money case. And questions on Trump's deportation plan remain unanswered. Rep. Steve Cohen, Sen. Amy Klobuchar, Professor Laurence Tribe, and John Sandweg join Lawrence O'Donnell.
During a surprise appearance on the Gutfeld! show on Fox News this week, Donald Trump continued his pity party over his pathetic debate performance, but this time he added a new twist. Trump claimed that when the moderators fact checked him the audience at the debate went crazy. The only problem is that there was no audience. Trump made it up, like he makes up everything. This has led to a fresh round of speculation that Trump's mental health is in the toilet. And attending one of Donald Trump's rallies might actually be hazardous to your health. According to a new report, half a dozen rallygoers at Trump's recent Tucson rally all sought medical treatment after the event due to a mysterious eye problem that caused all of them to be unable to see. These people were sitting in the area right behind Trump at the rally, and they are all suffering from the same disease that hasn't yet been identified. Also, Donald Trump's campaign is spiraling into a world of dark fantasies, and it hasn't gone unnoticed by Republicans. One Republican strategist, Sarah Longwell, said during an interview on CNN this week that the Trump 2024 campaign was the "most vicious, despicable, lie-filled" campaign that she has ever seen in her life. Longwell didn't hold back her criticisms, and the public should take notice because she's absolutely right. Finally, Donald Trump held a rally in New York this week that was essentially a showcase of his growing mental problems. He claimed that he would be traveling to Springfield, Ohio in the next two weeks and then suggested that they might try to kill him. He then went on a rant about crime in New York (which has been falling) and said that a child on the subway has a 75% chance of being killed. These are outrageous lies, but more importantly they are symptoms that something is seriously wrong with him.Subscribe to our YouTube channel to stay up to date on all of Farron's content: https://www.youtube.com/FarronBalancedFollow Farron on social media!Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/FarronBalancedTwitter: https://twitter.com/farronbalancedInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/farronbalancedTikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@farronbalanced?lang=enText and and let us know your thoughts on today's stories!

During a speech in Nashville late last week, Donald Trump heaped praise upon the Capitol Rioters by saying that he admired their "spirit." This is the kind of statement that could easily blow up his chances of being left on the ballot as he faces 14th Amendment challenges from multiple states. If we had a fair Supreme Court, this statement alone would mean "game over" for Trump being on the ballot. Also, Republican Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene has long been rumored to be on Trump's shortlist for possible running mates. But that isn't exactly what Greene has in mind. Greene told reporters this week - and, by extension, Donald Trump - that she would be more than happy with a position in his cabinet, and she knows exactly what position she wants. And if Trump becomes president, you can bet that she'll get it.And as part of a new series of focus group interviews that CNN is conducting, they spoke to Republican voters about who they are supporting this year. One Republican voter revealed that even though she is a staunch conservative, there's a very steadfast reason why she'll never vote for Donald Trump. The voter says that she wouldn't trust him around her kids and that he is a bad role model, and that, for her, is a dealbreaker. This is actually something that needs to be highlighted more by the Democrats. Finally, Donald Trump might be cruising to an easy victory in the Republican primary, but that doesn't mean that he's got the same power that he used to have. According to new reports - and photographs - Trump is struggling to fill auditoriums for his "pity party" rallies, and at his most recent event in Nashville, organizers had to remove hundreds of empty chairs so Trump wasn't looking at empty seats.Subscribe to our YouTube channel to stay up to date on all of Farron's content: https://www.youtube.com/FarronBalancedFollow Farron on social media!Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/FarronBalanced/Twitter: https://twitter.com/farronbalancedInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/farronbalancedTikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@farronbalanced?lang=en

Chip Roy (R-Texas) has been flirting with the idea of trying to remove Johnson, saying in a radio interview on Tuesday: "If they totally botch [the appropriations bills] ... Gov. Mike Kehoe and Sen. Bill Eigel in the August 2024 GOP primary, has used the lawsuit to raise money for his gubernatorial campaign, where culture war issues have played a prominent role. And, he is using taxpayer funds to pay a campaign donor to represent his office in the lawsuit.Instead of using the Missouri attorney general's office to fight the challenge to the rules, Ashcroft hired the politically connected Kansas City law firm of Graves Garrett to represent his office.Law firm partner Todd Graves, a former head of the Missouri Republican Party, was named to the University of Missouri board of trustees in 2021 and Greim was mentioned as a possible pick for attorney general when Eric Schmitt vacated the post to become U.S. senator in 2021.Greim also represented the Office of the Governor in 2018 when former Gov. Missouri water way gets needed recognition, but for horrible reasonshttps://missouriindependent.com/2024/01/08/coldwater-creek-to-finally-have-warning-signs-after-decades-of-nuclear-contamination/Nuclear waste stored outside St. Louis was found to pose a risk to nearby Coldwater Creek as early as 1949. The contaminated creek will finally have warning signs almost 75 years later. From articleThe U.S. Army Corps of Engineers said in a statement Monday that it was working with the Environmental Protection Agency to add signs along the creek to help it monitor areas “that may pose a risk if disturbed.”Coldwater Creek has been contaminated for decades with radioactive waste left over from the World War II-era effort to build an atomic bomb. But though the creek winds through some of St. Louis' busiest suburbs and past public parks and schools, the federal government had resisted calls to post signs warning visitors of the contamination.“This is decades of potential exposure that could have been prevented that they drug their feet on,” said Dawn Chapman, co-founder of Just Moms STL, an organization formed to advocate for communities affected by St. Louis-area radioactive waste.Despite the delays, Chapman said she's thankful that the signs are finally going to be installed. The St. Louis area has long struggled with a radioactive waste problem. Uranium for the Manhattan Project, the name given to the effort to develop the first atomic bomb, was refined in downtown St. Louis. After World War II, radioactive waste left over from those efforts was trucked to the St. Louis airport and dumped — some on the open ground and some in barrels — next to Coldwater Creek. As early as 1949, Mallinckrodt Chemical Works, the company that refined uranium for the federal government, was aware the waste could escape the barrels it was stored in and contaminate the nearby creekThe Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry concluded in 2019 that children and adults who played in or near Coldwater Creek or lived in its floodplain between the 1960s and 1990s may have been exposed to radioactive materials that raise the risk of certain cancers. The regents requested just over $609 million from the state's general fund and about $40 million from other state sources. Reynolds recommended allocating almost $619 million.Colorado - Congresswoman Diana DeGette introduces discharge petition to ban high-capacity magazines:https://coloradonewsline.com/briefs/degette-house-vote-high-capacity-magazine-ban/From article:U.S. Rep. Diana DeGette used a mechanism in the House of Representatives that would force a vote on a bill without leadership's approval to bring forward a vote on a gun safety bill. DeGette, who represents Denver in Congress, alongside House Gun Violence Prevention Task Force Chair Mike Thompson, a California Democrat, filed a discharge petition to force a vote on the Keep Americans Safe Act. The bill would ban large capacity magazines - those that can hold 30-100 rounds - with a few exceptions and will likely struggle to get through the Republican-controlled House.DeGette said high-capacity magazines were used in all of the 10 deadliest mass shootings in the country. She said the only purpose of these magazines is to kill a lot of people in a short amount of time. “These events continue to re-traumatize our community and our nation, because no community has been untouched by this deadly epidemic,” DeGette said. “In mass shootings with four or more people killed between 2015 and 2022, high-capacity magazines led to more than twice as many people being killed and nearly 10 times as many people being wounded per incident on average.”The petition requires 218 signatures to force a vote on the floor, and with 213 Democrats in the House, at least five Republicans would need to sign. DeGette said she thinks some Republicans in the House represent districts impacted by mass shootings and may be under pressure from their constituents to ban high-capacity magazines. U.S. Rep. Jason Crow, a Centennial Democrat, joined DeGette and members of the Gun Violence Prevention Task Force at a press conference outside the U.S. Capitol after DeGette filed the petition and applauded Colorado leadership for its gun safety measures, particularly banning high-capacity magazines. “In Colorado, we are fortunate to have a state legislature focused on gun reform when Congress fails to make significant change due to Republican stonewalling over and over again,” Crow said. Crow highlighted several high-profile mass shootings in Colorado where the perpetrator used high capacity magazines: the 1999 Columbine High School shooting in Littleton, the 2012 Aurora movie theater shooting, the 2021 Boulder King Soopers shooting, and the 2022 Club Q shooting in Colorado Springs. The agency — part of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention — recommended signs be placed along the creek to warn residents of the potential exposure risk. The Army Corps said there was nothing specific that caused the agency to change its mind on installing the signs. The Respect for Marriage Act, or H.R. 8404, passed on a bipartisan 258–169 vote. Thirty-nine Republicans joined all Democrats in the lower chamber to pass the bill. One Republican voted present, and four didn’t vote. The legislation now heads to the White House for President Joe Biden’s signature into law; he has said he’ll sign it. The House had approved the measure in July but was voting again because the Senate amended the proposal in November. The bill includes a codification of the Supreme Court’s 2014 ruling in Obergefell v. Hodges, which declared a federal right to same-sex marriage on grounds of the 14th Amendment’s “equal protection” clause. “I began my career fighting for LGBTQ communities—and now, one of the final bills that I will sign as Speaker will ensure the federal government never again stands in the way of marrying the person you love,” House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) said in a recent statement. Critics of the bill have warned of the potential for it to target faith-based organizations and have refuted the notion that it’s merely a codification of Obergefell. “The truth is the Respect for Marriage Act does nothing to change the status of same-sex marriage or the benefits afforded to same-sex couples following Obergefell,” the conservative Alliance Defending Freedom wrote in a blog post. “It does much, however, to endanger religious freedom.” The Alliance Defending Freedom described the bill as “a direct attack on the religious freedom of millions of Americans with sincerely held beliefs about marriage.” They said that by recognizing same-sex marriage in law, the bill “embeds a false definition of marriage in the American legal fabric.” Further, “it opens the door to federal recognition of polygamous relationships” and “jeopardizes the tax-exempt status of nonprofits that exercise their belief that marriage is the union of one man and one woman.” Republican proponents of the bill rejected the claim, saying that it ensured that same-sex marriages would be protected while respecting the rights of faith-based institutions. The Senate passed the final package of the Respect for Marriage Act on Nov. 28. Ahead of a key vote to advance the package, Sen. Mitt Romney (R-Utah), who often defects from his party on legislation, tied his support for the bill to protections of the religious freedoms of faith-based institutions. “If it includes important protections for religions and religious institutions, I will support it,” Romney told Politico. Other Republicans, including Sens. Roy Blunt (R-Mo.) and Joni Ernst (R-Iowa) demurred from telling reporters how they’d vote on advancing the bill ahead of the vote. Ultimately, the bill garnered enough support to pass the upper chamber easily. Twelve Republicans joined Democrats to support the bill, including Romney, Ernst, and Sen. Rob Portman (R-Ohio). https://www.foxnews.com/politics/biden-prisoner-exchange-britney-griner-leaves-behind-marine-veteran-paul-whelan-again Biden prisoner exchange for Brittney Griner leaves behind Marine veteran Paul Whelan — again President Biden's prisoner exchange with Russia secured the release of WNBA star Brittney Griner on Thursday, but left U.S. Marine veteran Paul Whelan in Russian custody. Whelan has been in Russian custody since 2018 when he was sentenced to 16 years in prison on espionage charges. Griner had been in Russian custody since February after authorities discovered vape cartridges containing a small amount of cannabis oil in her luggage. Biden's administration had initially sought the release of both Griner and Whelan in exchange for notorious arms dealer Viktor Bout, a Russian citizen serving a prison sentence in America. Known colloquially as the "Merchant of Death," he was convicted in 2011 of conspiracy to kill Americans and sentenced to 15 years in prison. The Biden administration ultimately agreed to exchange Bout for Griner alone, leaving Whelan behind in Russia. Nevertheless, Whelan's brother, David Whelan, congratulated Griner on her release in a Thursday statement, but lamented the Biden administration's failure to release his brother. David's statement went on to note that the Biden administration notified the Whelan family that Paul would be left behind in the exchange. The statement noted that it was the second time the Biden administration had left Paul behind in a prisoner exchange, with the last instance coming in April. He pushed the Biden administration to be more aggressive in its efforts to get Americans released, going so far as to say the U.S. should arrest more Russians for exchange. https://www.military.com/daily-news/2022/12/06/army-keeps-booting-covid-vaccine-refusers-shot-requirement-may-be-dropped.html The Army Keeps Booting COVID Vaccine Refusers as Shot Requirement May Be Dropped The Pentagon's COVID-19 vaccine mandate appears on the verge of being eliminated by Congress after just over a year, yet the Army -- the only remaining service to never slow down separating troops who refuse inoculation -- said Monday it will not pause those separations. The Army has kicked out 1,841 active-duty soldiers for refusing inoculation, according to the latest service data released Friday. The Navy, Marine Corps and Air Force have halted or been barred by the courts from continuing separations, particularly for troops requesting religious exemptions, as legal fights play out over Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin's August 2021 order that all service members be vaccinated. Now, lawmakers might strike a deal to nix the vaccine mandate as part of the annual defense authorization bill after Republicans pushed for the repeal and the Marine Corps said vaccine disinformation in parts of the country is hurting recruiting. A vaccine mandate reversal could also set up an unprecedented legal fight with troops seeking compensation for their dismissal or fighting to be brought back into the ranks. The details of the massive defense bill were expected to be released Tuesday, and it was unclear whether the soldiers who were kicked out would be allowed to return to service or be provided compensation by Congress. On Saturday, Politico reported the Democratic chair of the House Armed Services Committee, Rep. Adam Smith of Washington state, put the mandate on the table in negotiations over the must-pass National Defense Authorization Act, or NDAA, which sets funding and policy priorities for the Defense Department. Since the pandemic began, GOP lawmakers have attempted to stonewall efforts to combat the spread of infections or boost immunities and have used the Pentagon's inoculation mandate as a partisan rallying cry. Troops are required only to get the initial vaccination, not a booster shot. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, it's unknown how long the vaccinations protect against the worst effects of COVID-19, though they're estimated to remain effective for about a year, and many service members were vaccinated in early 2021. For now, the Air Force, Navy and Marine Corps are in a holding pattern on removing troops due to court challenges. Some 1,200 Coast Guardsmen are part of a class-action lawsuit due to their religious exemptions being denied. https://www.washingtonexaminer.com/restoring-america/fairness-justice/fbi-used-secret-powers-to-strip-more-americans-of-their-gun-rights-documents-reveal FBI used secret powers to strip more Americans of their gun rights, documents reveal The FBI has secretly stripped eight more people of their rights to own, use, or purchase firearms , according to internal FBI documents obtained by the Washington Examiner. Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) and over a dozen GOP members of Congress in October demanded that the FBI and Justice Department hand over proof that the FBI is no longer waiving people's gun rights with internal forms, which the Daily Caller uncovered in September had been signed by 15 people. Now, the Washington Examiner has obtained eight heavily redacted signed forms — indicating a more widespread bureau effort than previously known to target the Second Amendment rights of law-abiding citizens. "Americans can't simply sign their constitutional rights away, even to the FBI," Rep. Michael Cloud (R-TX), who signed the October letter, told the Washington Examiner. "As Republicans enter a House majority, we must use our investigative power to put a check on federal agencies who have proven to be eager and willing to crack down on Americans' right to keep and bear arms." Through the forms, the FBI asked signatories to identify as a "danger" to themselves or others or lacking the “mental capacity adequately to contract or manage” their lives. The forms were presented by the FBI to people at their homes and in other undisclosed locations beginning in at least 2016 and until December 2019, when the FBI claims it was discontinued. While two of the new eight forms have redacted dates for when they were signed, the other six are dated between March 2018 and April 2019. The signed forms were obtained by Gun Owners of America, a firearms rights group, as part of its Freedom of Information Act lawsuit against the bureau to compel the disclosure of records. They were then shared with the Washington Examiner. https://www.dailyfetched.com/avalanche-of-media-outlets-are-firing-staff-or-shutting-down-completely/ Avalanche of Media Outlets are Firing Staff or Shutting Down Completely More and more media outlets are firing staff or shutting down altogether as the economy under President Joe Biden continues to tank amid a huge public narrative shift. One left-leaning outlet, The Recount, shut down entirely after receiving a whopping $34,000,000 from investors, which they can’t make back. The outlet needed help finding a profitable business model. Meanwhile, AMC network announced it was laying off a fifth of its staff. The layoffs at AMC Networks come at a time when several media companies, including Amazon and Facebook-parent Meta Platforms, are making deep cuts to their employee base to navigate a potential downturn in the economy, the Daily Mail noted. Earlier this week, BuzzFeed announced it would be axing 12% of its workforce. The Daily Fetched reported the outlet faced a brutal ad-spending pullback amid an ongoing economic downturn. Buzzfeed staffers were notified by email Tuesday that they were losing their jobs. CEO Jonah Peretti wrote in a memo to employees: “In order for BuzzFeed to weather an economic downturn that I believe will extend well into 2023, we must adapt, invest in our strategy to serve our audience best, and readjust our cost structure.” NBC Universal also announced it was laying off staff, with cuts expected mainly in broadcast and cable TV groups. The headcount reduction is set for 2023 to hit budget targets. NPR announced it was having a near hiring freeze and budget cuts in anticipation of a $20 million shortfall in financial sponsorships this fiscal year. Meanwhile, the Washington Post ended its Sunday magazine and also eliminated positions. The Post’s executive editor, Sally Buzbee, announced the outlet would end in its current form after printing on Dec. 25. Gannett, America’s largest newspaper publisher, also announced it would be six percent of its staffers as the company struggles financially. Americans trust in media is at record low amid a huge public narrative shift. As Gallup reported: At 34%, Americans’ trust in the mass media to report the news “fully, accurately and fairly” is essentially unchanged from last year and just two points higher than the lowest that Gallup has recorded, in 2016 during the presidential campaign. Just 7% of Americans have “a great deal” of trust and confidence in the media, and 27% have “a fair amount.” Meanwhile, 28% of U.S. adults say they do not have very much confidence and 38% have none at all in newspapers, TV and radio. Notably, this is the first time that the percentage of Americans with no trust at all in the media is higher than the percentage with a great deal or a fair amount combined.

A daily news briefing from Catholic News Agency, powered by artificial intelligence. Ask your smart speaker to play “Catholic News,” or listen every morning wherever you get podcasts. www.catholicnewsagency.com - The US House of Representatives voted 258-169 to pass the Respect for Marriage Act (RFMA) on Thursday, sending it to President Joe Biden's desk for his signature. A total of 219 Democrats, along with 39 Republicans, voted “yea” to the bill. One hundred sixty-nine Republicans voted against it. One Republican voted “present” — neither yes or no — and four Republicans were recorded as not voting. The bill, which would repeal the 1996 Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA) and recognize same-sex marriages on a federal level, has drawn criticism from Catholic leaders for not providing strong enough protections for those who believe marriage is between one man and one woman — a belief in line with Church teaching. President Joe Biden, a Catholic, has pledged to sign it into law. https://www.catholicnewsagency.com/news/253021/house-passes-same-sex-marriage-bill-in-final-vote-sending-it-to-biden-s-desk A group of clerical sexual abuse survivors has filed a request with the Baltimore Circuit Court in an attempt to make public a recently sealed attorney general's report that claims to chronicle hundreds of instances of clerical abuse. At issue is a 456-page report compiled by the office of Maryland Attorney General Brian Frosh, which consists of information given by the Archdiocese of Baltimore along with information gathered from interviews, and which claims to identify more than 600 victims of clerical abuse in the archdiocese dating back eight decades. It is currently unclear whether the report will lead to any new criminal charges. At a joint press conference Dec. 7, a group of abuse survivors and their attorneys announced they had filed a motion in support of the Maryland Office of Attorney General's recent motion to publicly disclose the report to the public. A judge in Baltimore last week ordered all proceedings, filings, and communications related to the release of the report on clerical sexual abuse to be made confidential. Going forward, the legal processes of releasing the full report will not be disclosed to the public because of the confidentiality order. Should the full report be released, pending Judge Anthony Vittoria's decision, it will likely be redacted. https://www.catholicnewsagency.com/news/253024/baltimore-abuse-survivors-file-request-to-make-abuse-report-public Today, the Church celebrates Saint Juan Diego, the indigenous Mexican Catholic convert whose encounter with the Virgin Mary began the Church's devotion to Our Lady of Guadalupe. https://www.catholicnewsagency.com/saint/st-juan-diego-409
For four years North Carolina has had divided government: A Republican General Assembly and a Democratic governor able to veto some of their ideas – 47 of them since 2018. Republicans have a shot at a supermajority this election season, which would moot the governor's vetoes. Should they get it? Two lawmakers debate: One Republican, one Democrat.
