Derek S. Maltz retired from the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) after 28 years of dedicated service and is currently working for Pen-Link Ltd as the Executive Director, Government Relations. Mr. Maltz is also a National Security, Public Safety Executive who appears on national news networks as a subject matter expert. Mr. Maltz was the Special Agent in Charge of the United States Department of Justice (DOJ), Special Operations Division (SOD) for almost 10 years before he left the federal government. Mr. Maltz also previously held the position as the Chief of the New York Drug Enforcement Task Force, which is the oldest and largest drug task force in America. As the Agent in Charge of SOD, SAC Maltz was instrumental in the growth of SOD from 9 to 30 participating agencies including personnel from the U.K., Canada, Australia and the New York City Police Department (NYPD).   SPECIAL LINK: March 1st, 2023: https://www.congress.gov/event/118th-congress/house-event/115371?s=1&r=1   Mr. Maltz oversaw the operations of approximately 500 SOD personnel and was responsible for an annual budget of $100 million, while incorporating the DOJ's priority International Organized Crime and Gang Operational programs into the center. Mr. Maltz played a vital leadership role in developing and implementing DOJ's and Department of Homeland Security's nationwide de-confliction program to better synchronize the criminal law enforcement efforts around the world. SOD was responsible for leading the coordination of the high-profile multi-agency efforts that resulted in the capture of Sinaloa Cartel Kingpin El Chapo Guzman. Mr. Maltz was also featured on CBS 60 Minutes, NBC and CNN in response to SOD's role in the tremendous law enforcement success against the Sinaloa Cartel. SAC Maltz formally established the Counter Narco-Terrorism Operations Center (CNTOC) in January 2007. Since its establishment, the CNTOC successfully coordinated several significant narco-terrorism operations, including the identification of the Lebanese Canadian Bank as a facilitator involved with an international trade-based money laundering scheme supporting Hezbollah, and a subsequent U.S. Treasury Patriot Act 311 action. This was the first time a 311 action was used in this manner in conjunction with law enforcement on a drug case. This unprecedented event ultimately led to a $150 million seizure as part of the Hezbollah drug and money laundering initiative named Project Cassandra. Mr. Maltz appeared several times on Fox News to discuss this well publicized and impactful enforcement action. SAC Maltz also enhanced SOD's Bi-Lateral Global Investigations Unit at SOD from 1-5 highly successful field enforcement groups. These proactive investigative groups demonstrated unparalleled success in targeting and prosecuting some of the highest level criminals in the world, such as the arrest and conviction of notorious arms trafficker Viktor Bout; the arrest and conviction of arms trafficker and terrorist Monzer Al Kassar, alleged mastermind behind the Achille Lauro hijacking; the capture and conviction of Haji Juma Khan, reputedly Afghanistan's biggest drug kingpin with ties to the Taliban and the leader of one of the largest drug trafficking organizations in the Central Asia Region; the capture and conviction of Afghan heroin kingpin Haji Bagcho; the arrest and conviction of Khan Mohammed on 21 USC 960a charges of narco-terrorism and the arrest and conviction of Global Transnational Criminal Paul Le Roux. As a result of Mr. Maltz' leadership, he received the Presidential Rank Award for his accomplishments. Mr. Maltz was also the recipient of numerous other prestigious awards for his accomplishments throughout his law enforcement career and has an extensive law enforcement network around the world. Mr. Maltz has been a spokesperson at Congress and on national media networks on a variety of national security topics. Mr. Maltz was also the lead spokesperson for the DEA for over 10 years on the “going dark” issues relating to advanced communications and encryption and was a member of the DOJ's Communications Assistance for Law Enforcement Act (CALEA) briefing team on these complex issues impacting law enforcement and public safety.

It took 294 days, but Brittney Griner is back home. On December 8, the WNBA star was freed in a prisoner swap with Russia for convicted arms dealer Viktor Bout, ending an almost year-long fight for her freedom by her loved ones, teammates, fans, and the White House. But just because Griner is back home, doesn't mean her life will ever be the same. We called up TJ Quinn to close the book on the biggest story we have continuously covered all year…and he tells us how we got Griner back, what her readjustment is expected to be like…and when we might next see her on a basketball court. The Wall Street Journal writes: “The Livermore facility uses nearly 200 lasers to heat and compress hydrogen atoms to temperatures of more than 180 million degrees Fahrenheit and pressures more than 100 billion times Earth's atmosphere. Those extreme conditions create a state of matter known as plasma, in which hydrogen atoms fuse. The same process powers the sun and other stars.”

It's the most wonderful time of the year! There'll be scary ghost stories, and tales of the glories of war criminals from long, long ago! This week's Gaslit Nation tells two stories. One is about the imprisoned Russian mercenary arms trader who enabled the most brutal people in the world for decades only to be freed in a trade for an American basketball player and released to his homeland to likely help carry out logistics in an imperial war. The other story is about a hammer-wielding maniac and his girlfriend – a “nudist activist” imprisoned for child abuse who roamed the US drugging people while her siblings immersed themselves in sex cults, artificial intelligence and the occult, with one of them single-handedly reviving the Freemasons of San Francisco before going on to work for the Trump and Biden administrations.  This is because life in America is fine and normal, and everything is normal and going to plan, and we should not be at all alarmed because clearly our institutions have got it under control! Anyway, this episode of Gaslit Nation – a deep dive into war criminal Viktor Bout and then into Paul Pelosi attacker Dennis DePape and his girlfriend, Gypsy Taub, and her family – is a series of strange tales to share around the fire this holiday season. That's because we are living in a real-life scifi dystopia. Might as well record it before Elon Musk inserts a chip in our brains and replaces it with his own! For our weekly bonus episode, available to Gaslit Nation subscribers at the Truth-Teller level or higher, we discuss crypto and attacks on democracy, book banning, Jack Smith's backstory, the Hunter Biden laptop fiasco, the MeToo backlash, and more. If you are a subscriber at the Democracy Defender level or higher, stay tuned because you are invited to a special live taping of Gaslit Nation on January 24! Details to come. This week, Alan, Quinta, and Scott were joined by serial guest Lawfare executive editor Natalie Orpett to talk through the week's big national security news, including:“Surly Intervention.” Desperate circumstances in the island nation of Haiti have both Haitians and the international community thinking seriously about another international intervention. But no one seems excited about the prospect, or eager to lead it. How should the international community be approaching this situation?“What's the Penalty for Inequal Substitution?” The Biden administration finally negotiated the freedom of WNBA Star Brittany Griner this past week, but at a steep cost: the freedom of notorious Russian arms dealer Viktor Bout. And she leaves behind her another American, Paul Whelan, who has been in Russian prison since 2018. Was the trade worth making? How should the United States handle these difficult hostage-taking cases?“Justice Delayed is Justice in Stride.” Nearly thirty-four years after the Pan Am 103 bombing, the Justice Department has secured custody over Abu Agila Masud, a former Libyan intelligence operative believed to have built the bomb for, and played a key role in, the operation. How big a victory is this capture? How is the Justice Department likely to approach his prosecution? For object lessons, Alan embraced his inner Trekkie and endorsed the newest Star Trek series, "Star Trek: Strange New Worlds." Quinta endorsed Don Delillo's classic 1985 novel "White Noise," soon to be a feature film from Noah Baumbach. Scott encouraged listeners to incorporate folk guitarist John Fahey's 1968 album "The New Possibility" into their holiday music routine. And Natalie gave a few recommendations from her recent dive into short stories, including T. This week on the Mark Levin Show, we have an increasing police state problem in our country. President Joe Biden has violated immigration laws, his party intends to pack the courts, and if he gets his way they'll destroy the voting system unless the courts and We The People stop him. Yet all the media can discuss is how dangerous Donald Trump is. This is the dismantling of America. Then, what is populism, and who determines who the majority is? While Marx often discussed 'classes" he never defined them. When it comes to unalienable rights does it matter whether it's populist or not? A jury finds the Trump organization guilty on 17 counts in a tax fraud case in Manhattan. It's clear that a jury of your peers in NYC or DC is hostile to any Trump person or Trump entity. Prosecutors know this, so you can't get a fair trial. Why would the Trump family not pay those taxes but pay all other taxes? Later, outside of Florida and NY House Republicans didn't do well in the midterms because of redistricting. That means Republican establishment and legislatures didn't do their job; it has nothing to do with Trump. The racism against Herschel Walker from those in the media was reprehensible. President Biden just traded the world's foremost terrorist arms dealer for Brittney Griner, a female pro basketball player. Some in the media say she was chosen because choosing otherwise would be viewed as bigotry. The Rich Zeoli Show- Full Episode (12/09/2022): 3:05pm- Twitter Files Part 2: On Thursday night, former Wall Street Journal and New York Times journalist Bari Weiss revealed, prior to Elon Musk taking ownership, Twitter maintained a blacklist which limited the visibility of conservative commentators like, Charlie Kirk, Libs of TikTok, and Dan Bongino. Perhaps most disturbingly, Stanford University Professor of Medicine Jay Bhattacharya was also “shadow banned” for suggesting that prolonged COVID-19 lockdowns could irreparably harm children—particularly educationally. According to Weiss' reporting, the group banning the most high-profile Twitter accounts included former CEOs Jack Dorsey and Parag Agrawal. 3:30pm- After establishing that former Twitter executives authorized shadow banning conservative accounts, the next question that must be answered: were these bans being compelled by governmental officials and/or political organizations? 3:45pm- While speaking with John Roberts on Fox News, former Vice President Mike Pence was asked if he believed shadow bans on social media—Twitter specifically—cost Trump-Pence the 2020 presidential election.  3:50pm- On September 5th, 2018, while speaking before Congress, Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey stated, “[w]e don't consider political viewpoints, perspectives, or party affiliation in any of our policies or enforcement decisions, period. Impartiality is our guiding principle.” This statement now appears to be false. Will Dorsey be held accountable?  4:05pm- Matt Sharp—Senior Legal Counsel Representing Lorie Smith of 303 Creative | Alliance Defending Freedom—joins The Rich Zeoli Show. On Monday, the U.S. Supreme Court heard oral arguments in 303 Creative v. Elenis. The question being asked before the court is whether Lorie Smith, a wedding website designer, is legally permitted to decline creating custom webpages for same-sex weddings—is her religious objection protected by the First Amendment? During oral argument, Justice Neil Gorsuch noted that Colorado law forced Jack Phillips—the cake baker in Masterpiece Cakeshop v. Colorado Civil Rights Commission—was forced, by the state, to go through a reeducation program after refusing to make custom cakes for same-sex weddings citing a religious objection. 4:20pm- Rich figures out how to play sound effects from his studio—it's only been one segment, but Matt is already disgusted. Plus, the Zeoli show relives one of our all-time favorite clips: former New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio eating Shake Shack on television.  4:35pm- According to a report from The Daily Signal, Assistant Secretary of Health at the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Dr. Rachel Levine encouraged doctors to “proactively” campaign on behalf of transgender care for minors, during a September Zoom conference at University of Pittsburgh's Department of Pediatrics.  4:45pm- Qatar's beautiful camel contest! Are these camels ACTUALLY beautiful?!?! Matt and Rich disagree.  4:50pm- In an opinion editorial featured in The Arizona Republic, Senator Krysten Sinema announced that she changed her party affiliation from Democrat to Independent. Will this decision have any impact on Senate voting? Probably not. 5:05pm- According to a report from The Daily Wire, “[v]ideo emerged Thursday afternoon of Brittney Griner being swapped on a runway for convicted Russian terrorist Viktor Bout after Democrat President Joe Biden agreed to the trade.” The video shows a clear edit that appears to occur right before Brittney Griner may have shaken hands with Bout. Did the White House delete the handshake because of bad optics?  5:10pm- According to a report from Politico's Lara Seligman, “[s]ome Pentagon officials are concerned that convicted Russian arms dealer Viktor Bout, who was released on Thursday in a prisoner swap for American basketball star Brittney Griner, could return to illegally trafficking weapons, potentially fueling conflicts across the world.” 5:20pm- In 2010, 60 Minutes aired a report on Russian arms dealer Viktor Bout. They referred to him as one of the most dangerous people on earth.  5:35pm- According to a report from The Philadelphia Inquirer, Mayor Jim Kenney has been vocal in his complaints about a 6ABC story that criticized his performance in public office—even swearing at Brian Tierney for his role in the piece.  5:45pm- Mystery Movie Clip: Is Jingle All the Way one of the most underrated Christmas films? 6:05pm- Twitter Files Part 3: On Friday night, investigative journalist Matt Taibbi released information regarding the decision to remove former President Donald Trump from Twitter. Taibbi wrote, “Whatever your opinion on the decision to remove Trump that day, the internal communications at Twitter between January 6th-January 8th have clear historical import. Even Twitter's employees understood in the moment it was a landmark moment in the annals of speech.” According to Taibbi, Twitter executives were “prepared to ban future presidents and White Houses–perhaps even Joe Biden.” 6:55pm- Who Won Social Media?

On Thursday's Mark Levin Show, President Biden just traded the world's foremost terrorist arms dealer for Brittney Griner, a female pro basketball player. Some in the media say she was chosen because choosing otherwise would be viewed as bigotry. Viktor Bout, the merchant of Death as he's known, is now free to work with Putin while a U.S Marine remains behind bars in Russia. Later, Sen. Tom Cotton weighs in on the prisoner exchange that Biden capitulated to with Russia. Cotton added that while Greiner admitted to her crime, Paul Whelan a US Marine who's been imprisoned for 4 years, denies any such crime of espionage has been committed. Then, like clockwork, the bureaucrats are once again whining about a government shutdown. Yet it wasn't as portrayed in such a dire manner when the government shut down the private sector during COVID. Afterward, Elon Musk released more Twitter Files to journalist Bari Weiss which reveal that many conservative accounts, including a scientist from Stanford University, and entire topics were blacklisted from searches and from trending on the platform. If this has been occurring at Twitter imagine what has been happening at other platforms like Facebook, Google and media organizations like the New York Times. Meanwhile, Dan Bongino calls in with his reaction to the news that he was blacklisted by Twitter. Finally, Sen. Mike Braun joins the program to discuss the potential coming government shutdown for not having a budget in place. Braun says the best way to deal with debt is an Article V convention of States.  Learn more about your ad choices. Visit podcastchoices.com/adchoices

The Rich Zeoli Show- Hour 1: On Tuesday, President Joe Biden announced that his administration successfully negotiated the release of WNBA star Brittney Griner from a Russian detention center. Griner had been accused of carrying illegal vape cartridges. The prisoner swamp involved the Biden Administration agreeing to release Viktor Bout, a Russian arms dealer nicknamed the Merchant of Death. According to reporting from Jim Geraghty of The National Review, “at one point” Bout was “the second-most-wanted man after Osama bin Laden.” During her Thursday press conference, White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre defended the Biden Administration's decision to trade a dangerous arms dealer for a professional athlete in the U.S.-Russia prisoner swap. On the U.S.-Russia prisoner swap, National Review's Jim Geraghty writes that other nations may now conclude, “the U.S. government will release anyone under enough pressure.” Does this exchange encourage other adversarial nations to wrongfully imprison American citizens, hoping that it can result in valuable concessions? While appearing on CNN, Coordinator for Strategic Communications at the U.S. National Security Council John Kirby emphasized that Paul Whelan—a Marine imprisoned in Russia—was “never a bargaining chip” for Viktor Bout. Why not? And, after releasing Bout, what bargaining chip does the Biden Administration have to encourage Whelan's release?

After the recent win by Raphael Warnock in Georgia, Democrats will hang onto control of the Senate by a slightly larger margin. Warnock beat Republican Hershel Walker in Georgia's runoff with a 51% to 49% lead…giving Democrats a 51-49 edge in the Senate.  Though Democrats had already secured the Senate majority, this race may have bolstered the narrative that former President Donald Trump is losing influence on the right. Walker was yet another one of Trump's hand-picked candidates to be defeated.  But what actually decided the race? Was it candidate quality? And will Trump really be stripped of his sway in the Republican party? Plus, a significant percentage of Georgia voters split their ticket by voting for Republican Brian Kemp for governor but Warnock for Senate. Is Georgia truly turning purple, or was this race too close to make that assumption? Host David Greene discusses with Mo Elleithee, executive director of Georgetown University's Institute of Politics and Public Service, on the left; and Sarah Isgur, staff writer at The Dispatch, on the right. And, special guest Stephen Fowler, political reporter for Georgia Public Broadcast, weighs in on how the messaging from each side played with Georgian voters. Meanwhile, both Republicans and Democrats are doing some soul searching with the midterms officially over. What lessons are both sides taking away from this runoff? And how are they preparing for 2024? Also, the Democratic National Convention (DNC) is trying to change which states cast their ballots first in a presidential primary election. Iowa is out, and the DNC is looking to move South Carolina to the first slot. Will this actually prioritize Black voters, as committee member Donna Brazile proclaimed. Or does this calendar give President Joe Biden and Democrats an advantage? And Brittney Griner is free. The WBNA star was convicted for carrying cannabis cartridges in her luggage and held in a Russian penal colony for most of the year. Now, she will return home in exchange for the U.S. releasing convicted Russian arms dealer Viktor Bout, nicknamed the Merchant of Death. Was this prisoner swap worth the risk for the Biden administration? And what can Americans read into this?
