Welcome back to Ozempic Weightloss Unlocked, where we dive deep into the latest science, news, and real-world impacts of Ozempic and similar medications. Today, we're unpacking the newest discoveries about these increasingly popular weight loss drugs, their benefits, their risks, and how they're changing lives and medical thinking in 2025.First, let's get current: The spotlight on Ozempic, Wegovy, and related medications has never been brighter. Texas Health reports that these drugs, originally developed to manage type two diabetes, are being prescribed off-label for weight loss. They are part of a class called GLP-1 receptor agonists, mimicking a natural hormone that reduces appetite and improves blood sugar levels.According to Buckhead Primary Care Clinic, a recent 2024 study found that people who used Ozempic for four straight years maintained an average ten percent weight loss. That is significant, showing lasting results for long-term users. Other studies, compiled by ScienceAlert and The Independent, indicate that the majority of weight lost during treatment tends to return after stopping the drug, with some regaining weight in as little as eight weeks and the average participant gaining back five and a half pounds within twenty weeks of stopping. The reasons for the regain are still being investigated. Researchers suggest the body's metabolism might adapt to weight loss in ways that make long-term maintenance challenging. Lifestyle factors like exercise, diet, and whether participants had diabetes were taken into account, but a trend of weight cycling was observed. This weight cycling—losing weight and then regaining it—has unknown long-term impacts on health, and more research is underway. Now, what about muscle and fitness? A recent analysis by UVA Health, discussed by ScienceNews and other outlets, found that while Ozempic and similar drugs are effective at shedding pounds, they do little to improve cardiorespiratory fitness, which is a critical measure of health and longevity. More concerning, patients can lose “fat-free mass” during treatment—up to fifty percent of what's lost could be muscle, not just fat. That's why experts like Dr. Liu from UVA recommend combining medication with regular exercise and adequate dietary protein, to preserve muscle and maximize well-being.On the innovation front, new delivery methods are in the pipeline. ScienceNews reports that researchers at Stanford have developed a hydrogel that, once injected with Ozempic or Mounjaro, could maintain steady drug levels for weeks, potentially reducing injections from fifty-two a year to just four. Although still in animal trials, this technology could make ongoing treatment much more user-friendly in the future. The cultural impact is also significant. As Business Insider outlines, about one in eight adults in the United States are now taking a GLP-1 medication. These drugs have helped alter the narrative around obesity, framing it as a medical condition instead of a personal failing. However, the increased popularity has led to rising cases of eating disorders tied to the medications, and some clinicians now warn about new risks for those with a history of restrictive eating or who don't need the medication medically.Another debate is brewing over guidelines for children and teens. Stat News uncovered that more than a third of those who developed pediatric obesity guidelines had financial ties to drug manufacturers, raising concerns about impartiality and the wisdom of prescribing these strong medications to young people. To wrap up, the current consensus is that Ozempic and similar drugs represent a major advancement in obesity treatment, especially for people with type two diabetes or severe obesity. However, experts stress that these medications work best when combined with lasting lifestyle changes such as healthy eating, regular exercise, and ongoing medical guidance. Weight loss medication is often not a quick fix but part of a much larger, longer-term health plan.Thank you for tuning in to Ozempic Weightloss Unlocked. Thousands of people convened in downtown Dallas Sunday afternoon to protest President Donald Trump's immigration policies in the 2025 Mega March. In other news, state authorities are abruptly shutting down a string of North Texas assisted living facilities, leaving families scrambling to relocate their elderly and high-needs loved ones. Texas Health and Human Services informed families on Thursday that the agency is shutting down a number of facilities operated by Silver Leaf Assisted Living; Monday was supposed to be the day that Neiman Marcus closed its doors for good at the iconic downtown site. Instead, it got a 9-month lifeline and a planned “reimagination” of the future. There were moving parts, but consumers — and their love for the store — was something of a surprise for Saks Global CEO Marc Metrick during the process; and it's a battle of Texas tonight in the NCAA Women's Basketball Tournament Elite Eight matchup between TCU and Texas. As measles continue to spread in Texas, health officials in the Dallas-Fort Worth area are looking to add testing centers to get quicker returns on measles tests. Dr. Philip Huang, director of Dallas County's Department of Health and Human Services, said the department could add local testing centers should measles cases spike in North Texas. The West Texas outbreak neared 200 cases Friday; In other news, many Ellis County residents were picking up the pieces Sunday after high straight-line winds blew through the area Saturday, injuring at least four people, including one man who died. Meteorologists say winds reached up to 90 miles per hour; a man died after being shot last Thursday by Frisco police as officers attempted to serve a warrant. Family members told The Dallas Morning News that police have shared little information about the circumstances that led to the shooting death of 43-year old Gregory Dylan Sheppard; and the NFL salary cap continues to skyrocket. The league informed teams at the scouting combine the cap will be a record-high $279.2 million in 2025, an increase of $23.8 million. It's up $102 million since 2018. What does that mean for the Cowboys? Simply put, the club will have more money than expected to retain its free agents and possibly add new talent to the roster. Learn more about your ad choices. PHARR, Texas - DHR Health has held a groundbreaking ceremony for a new public-private behavioral health facility it is building in north Pharr. The hospital campus will be located at 4800 North Jackson Road in Pharr and will include a new 161,000 square foot building. The City of Pharr is providing the land. Following an appropriation by the Texas Legislature last session, the Texas Health and Human Services Commission is providing a $85 million dollar grant for the state-of-the-art project. The City of Pharr is providing the land. “This morning, we are here to mark a major milestone, a very meaningful step going forward in addressing mental health needs, not only here in the Rio Grande Valley, but throughout the state of Texas,” said Marissa Castañeda, senior executive vice president, at the start of the groundbreaking ceremony. “This day would not be possible without the invaluable support of our partners across the region. We are especially grateful for the City of Pharr. DHR Health's new behavioral hospital will soon be built. This partnership has truly helped bring our vision to life.” Yuri Gonzalez, the City of Pharr's news director agreed. “I'm truly honored to be here representing everybody that works with the great City of Pharr. This project really represents our shared commitment in improving mental health services, but also building a stronger, healthier, more resilient community, and that's what we plan to do,” said Gonzalez, who shared emceeing duties with Castañeda. “I'm truly inspired and seeing our leaders with the City of Pharr and just other great leaders coming together, making sure that this project, but most importantly, that this vision becomes a reality. So once again, congratulations to everyone involved in this great project,” Gonzalez said. DHR Health currently operates an 87-bed inpatient behavioral hospital in Edinburg. The DHR Health Behavioral Hospital will have 100 beds, with a focus on providing a comprehensive approach to mental health care for pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients. The hospital will also house intensive outpatient therapy programs. “What an honor it is for me to stand before you this morning at what I call a transformational change in healthcare that is going on at the greater bedside that is our community. We as physicians are trained to heal and to treat patients and take those powers and knowledge and wisdom to be able to assess and then properly treat an individual mind, body and soul,” said Dr. Carlos Cardenas, MD, chairman of the board of DHR Health, in his remarks from the podium. “Today, we stand at a crossroads. DHR health has been at the forefront of transforming healthcare in South Texas. It has been a transformational journey. One point four million people deserve the same level of healthcare to any other similar sized metropolitan area. And that is us.” Piece by piece, DHR has been adding to the jigsaw puzzle, Cardenas said. “Today, we break ground on a tremendous piece of that puzzle that has come forth as a cooperative, corroborative, public-private venture between DHR Health, the City of Pharr, the State of Texas, and our greater community at large. This is how great things happen. It's how transformation happens.” The new hospital is expected to open in the summer of 2026 and will represent Pharr's first hospital. Pharr Mayor Dr. Ambrosio Hernandez, MD, said the new hospital is “a transformative milestone” for Pharr and the Rio Grande Valley because it will bring critical mental health services directly to the community. It's Thursday, December 28th, A.D. 2023. This is The Worldview in 5 Minutes heard at www.TheWorldview.com. I'm Adam McManus. (Adam@TheWorldview.com) By Jonathan Clark Muslim Nigerian terrorists continue to target Christians As we reported yesterday, armed Muslim groups killed dozens of people in Nigeria's central Plateau State over the weekend. The death toll has risen to nearly 200 now in the predominantly Christian area. The attacks started on Christmas Eve and continued through yesterday. Terrorists killed church pastors and destroyed hundreds of homes. A local resident told Christian Daily International-Morning Star News, “These terrorists who attacked these Christian communities were in the hundreds, and they carried out the attacks as the hapless Christians were preparing for Christmas programs lined up by their pastors.” Church leaders in Nigeria believe Muslim herdsmen are targeting Christians for their land and to impose Islam. Psalm 37:1-3 reminds us, “Fret not yourself because of evildoers; be not envious of wrongdoers! For they will soon fade like the grass and wither like the green herb. Trust in the LORD, and do good; dwell in the land and befriend faithfulness.” European Union limits migration The European Union reached an historic deal last Wednesday to limit migration into the 27-country bloc. The deal still needs to be ratified and comes ahead of EU elections next year. Polls indicate a rise in support for conservative, anti-immigration parties. Under the agreement, European countries at the E.U. border will have a stricter asylum process and more power to deport migrants. Immigration to the E.U. is down from its high in 2015 of over one million people, but has been steadily increasing since the pandemic era. British teacher in trouble for opposing perversion The United Kingdom's Teaching Regulation Agency recently ruled a Christian teacher was guilty of “unacceptable professional conduct” for opposing sexually perverted lifestyles. The ruling comes after a Church of England school fired Glawdys Leger for refusing to teach the schools homosexual and transgender lessons. Leger said she was relieved that the Teaching Regulation Agency did not ban her from the profession, but she warned, “The message from the TRA is that Christian teachers must not only be silent about their beliefs, but they must actively promote LGBT ideology or risk being severely punished and even losing their careers.” Trump remains on Michigan ballot In the U.S., Michigan's Supreme Court ruled yesterday that former President Donald Trump can remain on the state's 2024 ballot. This contrasts with a ruling from Colorado's Supreme Court last week that said Trump is disqualified from holding the office of president. It was the first time a court has disqualified a presidential candidate based on the insurrection clause in the Constitution's 14th Amendment. Michigan and Colorado have come down on opposite sides of an issue that is likely to head to the U.S. Supreme Court. Trump is facing ballot challenges in over a dozen states. Only 34 abortions in Texas in almost 9 months New data from Texas Health and Human Services shows 34 abortions were reported in the state between January 1 and September 15 of this year. That's down from over 20,000 abortions last year and over 50,000 abortions in 2021. Texas has increased its abortion restrictions since last year when the U.S. Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade. The abortion rate has dropped across states with abortion bans since the ruling. However, medication abortion, specifically the Abortion Kill Pill, is expanding. Fifty-three percent of mothers who choose to abort, abort chemically. Before the ruling, it was already the most frequent form of abortion. 51,000 people trusted Christ through Fellowship of Christian Athletes And finally, the Fellowship of Christian Athletes reports their ministry this year saw over 51,000 people turn to Christ. FCA President and CEO Shane Williamson told The Christian Post, “The best gift we can give and receive at Christmas is the gift of Christ, who came to Earth to save us and offer us all the free gift of salvation.” This year marks 69 years for the ministry as it continues its mission to lead coaches and athletes into a growing relationship with Jesus Christ and His church. FCA now works in 115 countries. They also distributed over 230,000 Bibles this year, bring Bible distributions to three million over the last 15 years. Throughout the year, FCA staff have encouraged coaches and athletes to experience the reality that ‘the One who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world' (1 John 4:4). Indeed, Jesus is greater! Close And that's The Worldview in 5 Minutes on this Thursday, December 28th in the year of our Lord 2023.
