Hello everyone and we are back for another edition of Interviewing the Legends… I'm your host Ray Shasho. Over a decade ago, The Dead Daisies burst onto the music scene. Their mission, to create some good old fashioned 70's style rock, gather some of the finest musicians in the world, and have a great time keeping rock music alive. The Dead Daisies recently released their latest single “Love That'll Never Be”. The song came together while the band was working on songs for what became their latest album “Light ‘Em Up”. Also look out for the release of their upcoming blues album, “Lookin' For Trouble”. The Dead Daisies are pushing forward, generating energy and taking chances to ensure that every person who experiences them has no doubt that Rock is Indeed Alive & Well. We're back this week with a POSITIVE SPIN on some of our not-so-favorite Metroid games! We asked you what your favorite things about your least favorite Metroid games were, and we got a ton of different, positive responses! As you might imagine, lots of entries were centered around Other M and Federation Force, but from the boss fights and quality of the cutsenes in Other M to the fun co-op and customization options in Federation Force, plus the expanded world of Hunters, soundtrack of NEStroid, and actual bounty hunting found in Metroid 2, there's a lot to like this week! Florian and Esther discuss the language industry news of the week, with SlatorCon London, scheduled for May 23rd, announcing the speaker lineup, including a Keynote presentation from Iris Orriss of Meta. They then discuss how enterprises are becoming increasingly comfortable launching fully automated language AI features, labeling it the “normalization of language AI”.The duo talk about the unprecedented merger of Swiss-based SuperText and Textshuttle, signaling a shift towards more integrated, technology-driven solutions. Other M&A activity includes Deluxe's strategic investment in AppTek, TransPerfect's acquisition of TheSpeech, Diuna Group acquiring Yellow, and Cloudbreak Health's sale.Esther provides an update on financial results, with Straker anticipating a revenue decline while Keywords experienced growth in its top line but a decrease in its globalization division. Meanwhile, Appen faced a failed takeover bid after the bid was leaked, impacting the acquisition of the company. The podcast also touches on Google Translate's controversial decision to shelve its human feedback tool, Contribute, which allowed users to suggest translations for improvement. In other AI news, researchers from the Earth Species Project are exploring the possibility of translating animal communication using advanced AI models.Florian wraps up the pod with the European Commission's recent tender award, TRAD23, which sparked concerns among individual translators regarding pricing and quality standards.
Did you know that the Varia suit is probably just a mistranslation of the English word Barrier, so Samus' suit was supposed to be called the Barrier Suit? Anyway that's one of the fun bits of trivia we could have done if we had more time but we didn't because we had to talk about how dumb Other M is.
We're back to finish off the journey we started last week with Volume 1 of the Metroid Manga! Volume 2 picks up right where the last one left off and makes some...interesting decisions. Hear our thoughts on things like Adam's characterization towards Samus, if that ending was enough to undo the whole story thus far, Samus suffering from PTSD (and how that same scene later resurfaced in Other M), the fights against Ridley and the rest of the Space Pirates, how much DNA funny business is too much, and Grey Voice the Chozo's character arc! Come tune in to this nearly TWO HOUR episode that offers the most in-depth analysis of the Metroid Manga ever done and be sure to let us know your thought over on Discord! All of the Metroid manga has been fan translated by our pals over at Metroid Database and is available to read here, so make sure that you check them out! Visit OmegaMetroid.com! Subscribe! The most controversial Metroid game of all time returns to ignite debate and discussion, as this week, Andy and Dak are Definitively Ranking Metroid: Other M! We weigh in on the story, the gameplay, the music, and more to see where Other M went wrong, and more importantly, what areas the game excels at! Come play along, and as always, here's the criteria for the Definitive Rankings: World / Atmosphere (the vibe, the setting, the mood) Art Style (design of Samus, the enemies, the graphics in general) Story (what works, what doesn't) Pacing / Progression (are there any parts that really bog the player down, or is it still fun getting lost?) Gameplay / “Gimmick” (what new or different gameplay aspects we like) Items / Abilities (how are the powerups and are they cool and practical) Areas (how does each individual area look, feel, play, etc.) Enemies / Bosses (are they fun, creative, etc.) Expansions / Powerups (are the expansions hidden throughout the world fun, creative, and enjoyable to collect?) Music (are we humming along?) Of course, all of these are subjective, and we're putting our critics hats on, but we want to hear what you have to say on Twitter! Visit OmegaMetroid.com! Subscribe! Welcome back to another edition of Samus's Percentages! The premise is simple: we read off a statement and then assign a percentage on said statement ever coming true. In the hot seat this week is our friend Kiwi Talkz, as he joins Andy to answer a bunch of questions, including: will Metroid Prime 4 debut on the next Nintendo console? Was Retro Studios working on a third Donkey Kong game before taking over development for Prime 4? Will Raven Beak be a playable character in the next Smash Bros. game? Do we think Other M will ever get a remaster or HD port? Should Metroid II have released on the NES? Will the Speed Boost and Shinespark return in Prime 4? Sylux aside, do we ever see any of the bounty hunters from Metroid Prime Hunters again? All this, and so much more answered in this weeks show! Welcome back to another week of Omega! This week, the fellas are tackling a bunch of different #MetroidMusing questions, including this doozey: 12 years removed from the game launching, is it time to forgive Other M and embrace it's good qualities while leaving behind what it did wrong, or should fans hold the game accountable to make sure a second Other M never happens? Other questions include the possibility of Zero Mission - itself a remake - getting a modern remake one day, our favorite Space Pirate design, how awesome a prequel game starring Raven Beak set before the events of Metroid Dread could be, and so much more! All this, PLUS some Zelda Dungeon Marathon talk, Metroid Prime 4 discussion, and how no Nintendo Direct this summer almost assuredly means no Metroid Prime HD this year. Come hang out!
This week, we're answering YOUR fan questions in a "would you rather" format, and we have some absolute doozeys on hand! Would we rather every game play like Federation Force or have dialog like Other M? Would we rather a new Hunters style stand alone game or just have multiplayer included in Prime 4? Would we rather a remake of Metroid Fusion, Zero Mission, or Super? Would we rather Samus always adventure alone or introduce a new companion to the series? All this and so much more are on the table, and we've got an All Star lineup of guests to help answer! Zelda Dungeon's top speed runner Kathrine Endicott joins the fray, as well as the legendary Kiwi Talkz, who makes his long awaited Omega Metroid debut! Welcome back to the show! Get ready for a fun thought experiment this week: what if Metroid Dread had released on the DS as planned back in the late 2000's? What kind of sacrifices would have had to have been made? Would EMMI's still be as intense? Would their routes have to be scripted? Could all the items and abilities have worked? What would the second screen have been? Would there have been touch controls? Would the game have sold well? Would we still have gotten Other M? So many questions and branching timelines to discuss here, so come and fall down the rabbit hole with us! Shoutout to the amazing Rachel Ham for her "de-make" Metroid Dread art! The first season of Game Informer's Video Gameography explores the history of the Metroid series. This week, we're tackling the franchise's most reviled – or misunderstood – entry: Metroid: Other M. Released for the Wii on August 31, 2010, Metroid: Other M saw Nintendo pass the development reins to Team Ninja, the studio most famous for the 3D Ninja Gaiden games. With a new developer came a drastic new vision for the series. A considerable emphasis on narrative gave Samus her first real speaking role (and boy does she talk) and the tale fleshed out her past life with the Galactic Federation. We'll examine this polarizing narrative along with the development decisions behind Other M's blend of 2D and 3D gameplay. Join hosts Ben Reeves (@BenjaminReeves), Marcus Stewart (@MarcusStewart7), and special guest, MinnMax cohort and former GI editor Kyle Hilliard (@KyleMHilliard) as we unpack the history and lore of Metroid: Other M. Is it as lousy as history has led us to believe? Tune in to get our takes. If you'd like to get in touch with the Video Gameography podcast, you can email us at podcast@gameinformer.com. You can also join our official Game Informer Discord server by linking your Discord account to your Twitch account and subscribing to the Game Informer Twitch channel. From there, find the Video Gameography channel under "Community Spaces."

The newest Metroid game is finally upon us, so Jay swings by to give us his initial impressions of the first half of the game. Does it top Super Metroid, or fall closer to Other M? Minor spoilers ahead, but nothing you haven't seen in the trailers.
Shpeshal Nick from XboxEra joins us as we blast through the entire Metroid series with a focus on the main 2D installments. As we prepare for Metroid Dread's release, we also talk about our hopes and dreams (and concerns) for Metroid 5! And in case you were worried, fear not, as there's Prime Pinball and Other M discussion, too!

As we all know, Metroid celebrates its 35th anniversary this year, a landmark not many other franchises can claim to have hit. Over the years, there have some been some incredible high spots for the series: Super Metroid popularizing speed running, Ridley main eventing E3, the double release of Metroid Prime and Fusion, just to name a few. Of course, there have also been some bumps in the road - Other M missing the mark, Metroid skipping the N64, AM2R getting a C&D, etc. - along the way a well. This week, the boys reminisce about some of their personal highs and lows for the series over the year as we look forward to E3. Come listen and let us know what your moment would be! Subscribe! AWF I recently saw a short video from the late Stan Lee (link provided for reference) where he goes on a mini vent about fans treating comic characters as if they're some kind of static being with set limits or abilities that have to be written a certain way, i.e. "so and so would beat so and so because reasons", with Stan explaining that characters abilities only matter as far as the writer writes them. As a writer, how do you feel about this? I've seen folks say you write some characters poorly, or "out of character", to which I've always said "in character is however the current writer decides to write them". What's your take? https://twitter.com/BlueTlouNerd/stat... Diane W. What would interactions between Sticks and Cosmo (from Sonic X) be like? Papadripopolous Ian, have you considered other writing formats? You're a comic writer, of course. But could we some day possibly see Ian Flynn, novelist? Minty (KoFi) Did any of the Diamond Cutters ever see/encounter Infinite during the war? Considering Infinite was also a mercenary, would they have recognized him or even crossed paths with him in the past? Joestar_SSB (KoFi) If you were handed the opportunity to completely retcon / rewrite / rework Infinite The Jackal's backstory with little to no restrictions (be it in either game or comic format) what would you change, and what of his character would you like to further explore? Happytimes (KoFi) Rouge's greediness pre-reboot Archie sometimes seemed more malicious...Was this intentional? Creative Name (KoFi) The story I've always heard about you getting brought onto Archie is that you kept sending them unsolicited scripts until Penders left, and when he left, they brought you on as head writer to replace him. My question is - what were the contents of these scripts and did any of their stories make it into the final comic? Did they have anything in common with Other M? Scurvy Piratehog (KoFi) We know that Dr Eggman is busy fighting Sonic. So that begs the question. Where...is... Dr BACONman. What is he doing with his life? Scruffymatt Kyle vs Ian. Who wins that fight? Ian,

For our eighth podcast, we are thrilled to be joined by Jessica Martin, who provided the voice of Samus in Metroid: Other M, to celebrate its tenth anniversary! Shovel Knight is more than a retro-styled game made to make you wistful of a bygone era -- it makes you wish that era had never ended, and gives a glimpse of what it may have been like if it hadn't. From emulating an actual Famicom sound chip to sticking almost entirely within the capabilities of the NES hardware, Shovel Knight is nothing less than a work of art. It's also pretty fun to play! And it learns lessons from the last three decades that its proper 8-bit brethren never had time to internalize. Vinnk and Sean share their views on Yacht Club Games' maiden voyage, heap praises on the Metroid series and Sakura Wars in Future Retro, and try to talk themselves into taking some more games off their pile of shame. The team has been busy at work researching and playing one of the most divisive Nintendo games to bring you this episode of the podcast – our long awaited (and possibly overdue) Metroid Other M in-depth critique! The regular team of James, Steven and Daniel take us through the game from beginning to end – covering the writing of the game itself, including the characterisation of Samus and Adam, as well as the federation. After a short break we return with a discussion of the gameplay and how it impacted (both positively and negatively) the game itself. To finish, we discuss the visual presentation and soundtrack of the game in comparison to previous games like Prime and the original games.Of course, as we asked the community, we also close with a discussion of all your opinions of the game.We hope you enjoy this alternate format to the podcast, but those who aren't fans of Metroid need not to fret – we'll be back with a brand new episode in a fortnight with the traditional format. This format is new and we'll be doing them from time to time, though, so make sure to give us feedback in the comments! Proudly representing different regions of the US, a first-time retsu foursome appears to dish on a whole mess of random topics for an hour. Join slowbeef (east), Diabetus (south), Dave_O (west) and new guest Chip Cheezum (north) of chipandironicus.com fame as they discuss a bit more about the Wii U and Minecraft. New territory is also covered with such topics like No More Heroes 2, Deadly Premonition (WARNING: SPOILERS ON THIS GAME), Dangan Ronpa, LP moderating, new games everybody's into, and weird fan emails that Chip gets. Chip also opens up for the very first time ever about the origin story of his partnership with previous podcast guest and Metroid: Other M apologist General Ironicus. Dave_O gushes on Baldur's Gate a little bit, the gang chats about Dead Rising, co-op in general, Other M, and Final Fantasy/Square Enix. Pretty sure each topic listed gets maybe like 30-60 seconds of coverage, it's chaos!
This Week: Finally closing the door on Other M. Also, Sonic 4 or whatever.
Mike cohosts from CC Gaming in Kennesaw, GA, as we repeatedly talk about BABIES with Metroid: Other M on the Wii. There are some technical difficulties at the start of the show, which are all preserved unedited in the audio podcast. (After the first glitch everything runs fine.) We talk about Dragon*con, show some videos, and talk about one of the vendors where Bobby almost got royally ripped off. We show off a reproduction cartridge of a very expensive NES game that you yourself can buy for much cheaper than what Bobby paid for it.
