2018 legte Petite Noir mit seinem Debütalbum den Grundstein für Noirwave. Was als Kunstbegriff begann, wuchs bald zu einer Bewegung für Freiheit, Identität und Solidarität mit Afrika an. Nun ist Petite Noirs zweites Album «MotherFather da. Zwischen R'n'B und Punk reiht es sich in die Noirwavekollektion ein.

Petite Noir - "Simple Things (feat. Theo Croker)" from the 2023 album MotherFather on Roya. Petite Noir (real name: Yannick Ilunga) shares a message of empowerment on today's Song of the Day.  “'Simple Things' is about taking back your power,” the Congolese artist states in a press release. “It's a song for the people, to embrace harmony, reject division, and recognise that freedom comes from within.” The track features trumpet from Grammy-nominated, Floridian jazz musician Theo Croker, and will appear on his forthcoming sophomore LP MotherFather, out April 14th via Roya Records. South African artist Petite Noir [real name: Yannick Ilunga] has teamed up with Los Angeles-based producer Kingdom for the new double A-side single CoeurWorld.  In a press release, Ilunga declared, “I have been a huge fan of Kingdom since the early Fade to Mind days and I was very excited for this collaboration as it sparked new ideas for the future. It's been TEN years since Mr. Hudson’s last album, Straight No Chaser was released via Kanye West’s G.O.O.D. Music label. The British singer/songwriter/producer is known for his high profile work with the likes of Kanye West and JAY-Z, his unique sound and the vulnerability he imbues within his music, setting him apart from other artists. He finally makes his return with his new full-length LP WHEN THE MACHINE STOPS. The 11-track album features guest appearances by Vic Mensa and Taylor Bennett, plus additional contributions from Schae, Josh Dean, Petite Noir and Good Grace.
