His journey led him to Georgia, initially to Morris Brown College in Atlanta. At home, he shares his life with his wife, Ymmilia, and their five children: Brayana, Sekayi, Brandon, Gyasi, and Liam, residing in the vibrant North Side of Athens. My conversation with Montu was insiteful, funny, emotional and yet another reason that Athens Ga is a very special place. Show Notes:We are excited to welcome Barbara Brown Taylor to The Weight for a conversation about hospitality and being in the center and being at the edge of a religion--how is it different when you're the outsider versus when you're on the inside? How do you let people who believe in something completely different strengthen your own faith? Barbara leaned into these lessons when she taught a Religion 101 class at Piedmont College, now Piedmont University, in Georgia. She got to watch the real love and hospitality of Buddhist monks and Muslim Imams who “welcomed a bunch of awkward strangers, and fed us, and showed us where to sit and gave us places of honor and thanked us for coming.” And in return, she was able to deepen her own faith and extend hospitality and love to the others in her own life. She used her experiences teaching that course to write Holy Envy, which was published in 2019.Barbara Brown Taylor is an Episcopal priest, teacher, and the best-selling. She has served on the faculties of Piedmont College, Emory University, Mercer University, Columbia Seminary, Oblate School of Theology, and the Certificate in Theological Studies program at Arrendale State Prison for Women in Alto, Georgia. Paul Shaw received his doctorate from University of South Carolina. He has served as a teacher, coach, assistant principal, principal, Dean of Men at St. Leo College, assistant superintendent, and superintendent. In 2000, he Was recognized as State Superintendent of the Year in South Carolina and State Superintendent of the Year in Georgia in 2010. Served on the Executive Board for the American Association of School Administrators, teach part-time for Piedmont University, and currently serve as Director of Educator Ethics for the Georgia Professional Standards Commission. Paul is married to Cindy and we have a son (Brian), daughter (Ashley) and 4 grandchildren-Madison, Rogers, Keegan, and Shaw. 1/2 a percent of teachers are reported for teacher misconduct Just a few educators that put a black eye on Atlanta public schools and teachers Better monitoring now than before. Difference between model code of ethics and a code of conduct. Georgia code of ethics is a list of “thou shalt not's” The experience of COVID–19 has helped us be prepared. Worked with a lot of HR people in the state to help make better guidelines. Teachers should be professional at all times. Ethical behavior is doing what's right even when nobody is looking. Teach the kids, protect the kids, conduct ourselves appropriately. If in doubt, at least talk it over with someone. Teachers are quick to go to social media. You could lose your effectiveness in the classroom because of your political view, and so you need to be careful when they're known as a teacher rather than something else.

Cartersville-Bartow County Chamber of Commerce CEO Cindy Williams joins the Atlanta Real Estate Forum Radio podcast to share the benefits of joining a local chamber of commerce. Williams joins hosts Carol Morgan and Todd Schnick for the Around Atlanta segment. After completing her undergraduate program at Piedmont University and MBA at Auburn University, Williams entered the chamber industry and has been an active member for the past 15 years. Currently the CEO of the Cartersville-Bartow County Chamber of Commerce, Williams firmly believes in the chamber's mission, which is “to serve, promote and add value to the businesses of the community.” A chamber of commerce assists local businesses through marketing opportunities, including printed and digital materials, to promote the local economy. Members pay an annual fee to receive access to various resources such as networking events to encourage collaboration among local businesses. The Cartersville Chamber also offers educational classes for business owners requiring assistance with critical operational components such as QuickBooks as well as HR and legal courses. Williams said, “I like for our chamber to really serve the needs of what that businesses want. Our team will really go to work to make that happen.” The Cartersville-Bartow County Chamber of Commerce has a long list of services offered, but if a business owner approaches with a specific need, Williams and her team work hard to ensure that need is met. Initiatives and legislation set forth by the local government support the local business community of Cartersville and Bartow County and a location off I-75 with seven interchanges also affords fantastic local traffic. Tremendous tourism assets attract many visitors and promote a higher quality of life for new citizens and businesses. “There is a cooperative and collaborative environment in Bartow County that is among the municipalities and local government,” shared Williams. “When you have a core team of people who believe in serving the local business and make the environment right…they are truly pro-business.” While many are unaware of the purpose of a chamber of commerce, these organizations are the invisible helpers working behind the scenes to create positive work environments for local communities.
