Dans leur enquête, ils sont partis à la recherche de réponses du côté des « anciens » : 8 résidents de l'EHPAD COS Le Manoir, à qui ils ont pu poser toutes leurs questions. Enregistré (à distance, COVID oblige) entre le 15 et 19 mars, le résultat se décline en 8 portraits sonores qui en disent un peu plus sur la jeunesse de nos anciens, sur les rapports de genre de l'époque et sur le chemin parcouru depuis. « Drôle de genre, en peinture et en voix » est un projet de L'Indicible Compagnie et de Sandrine Lanno, artiste associée, avec 6 classes au total : - Une classe théâtre, les CM2 des Tournelles, qui jouent la pièce Une cosmonaute est un souci dans notre galaxie de Sarah Carré au théâtre le 26 juin ; - Une classe « podcast », les CE2 de l'école les Tournelles et reporters du projet, dont l'émission est diffusée le 22 juin sur notre chaîne de podcast ; - Les quatre classes « portraits » (CP Les Tournelles, CE1, CE1-CE2 et CM1 de Curie) qui ont réalisé ces portraits sonores mais aussi des portraits picturaux : l'ensemble donnant lieu à une exposition dans l'espace public de la ville de Chelles et au Théâtre (plus d'infos sur theatredechelles.fr). Research in Practice and Research in Practice for Adults Podcast
Powerful messages about people’s experience of safeguarding (or sometimes the lack of a response) are discussed in this podcast. The research has relevance not only in respect of people with mental health problems, but in relation to service users more generally. The podcast highlights some of the messages from research which explored experiences and concepts of targeted violence and abuse and of adult safeguarding with 23 people living in England who have been victimised because of their mental health status. Their experiences were then discussed with 46 mental health and adult safeguarding practitioners and stakeholders in focus groups. At the end of the project, the team held a ‘sense-making’ event to discuss the overall findings with a group of 46 people with lived experience, carers, practitioners and providers. This podcast was produced initially for a LGA/ADASS workshop to support practice in identifying and working with safeguarding concerns so that better outcomes will be achieved for people. It has wider application. Esi Hardy is founder and Managing Director of Celebrating Disability – a disability inclusion and equality business. Esi has worked in the public and not-for-profit sector developing and implementing policies to support disabled people to assert choice and control over every aspect of their lives. Esi is a seasoned direct payment service user having had experiences of going through the adult safeguarding concern processes. Using her lived and professional experience, Esi has Chaired and advised many groups, panels and conferences. Current relevant positions include: co-chair of the Personalisation Expert Panel and member of the Making Safeguarding Personal Advisory Group. Dr Sarah Carr is an academic with a particular interest in service user and survivor knowledge and research. She is Senior Fellow in Mental Health at the Institute for Mental Health at the University of Birmingham. Prior to this Sarah was an Associate Professor of Mental Health Research at Middlesex University London. Before transferring to the academic sector she was a Senior Research Analyst at the Social Care Institute for Excellence where she led on a five-year Department of Health and Social Care commissioned personalisation policy implementation programme. She is a National Institute for Health Research, School for Social Care Research (NIHR SSCR) Fellow and a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts (FRSA). Jane Lawson qualified as a social worker in 1983, initially working in the West Midlands and then in Hampshire. She has managed a generic advocacy project and worked in strategic posts including as a safeguarding adults lead. Jane now works with the Local Government Association on the Care and Health Improvement Programme as well as independently. She has acted as Independent Chair for three Safeguarding Adults’ Boards (SABs) and has chaired and authored several Safeguarding Adults Reviews. She has contributed to the LGA/ADASS Making Safeguarding Personal programme, including initially as joint author of the findings reports for 2013/14 and more recently authored a suite of publications on behalf of the LGA and ADASS, which aim to support SABs and a range of sectors. Tina Coldham has worked in the voluntary sector, across disability, in academia, and with regulators as a trainer/lecturer, researcher and involvement consultant. Tina is currently chair of the NIHR INVOLVE Advisory Group. INVOLVE is the national face of active public involvement in the NHS, public health and social care research. She was also Co-Chair of the Wessex Public Involvement Network (PIN) which was established to promote a commitment to ‘strategic localism’ through partnership working in research.

If you ask the author, Nathan Filer, when he first came into contact with mental illness, he'll tell you it was in 1999 when he first became a psychiatric nurse. But, like many of us, he'd actually met it much earlier : through film, drama and the news. Like many of us, his understanding had been shaped by how the media chose to portray it. But he quickly realised how very different real life was to fiction and the reports. Now he asks what does that difference do to us - both as a society and to us as individuals, when many of us have experienced mental health disorders in our every day lives, either personally or to close family and friends. How does story-telling in the 21st century influence public understanding and our sympathy or condemnation for those experiencing mental health disorders? Times are changing.
