We're tearing up and tearing it up this Tuesday as we talk about the return of cash rebates from a less than likely contender. We also help Stellantis say goodbye to the Hemi (kind of), as well as preparing a handshake for the new AI jock on the block…Grok. Amidst a notable deceleration in the EV market, automakers are adapting their sales strategies, reflecting a shift from a period of high demand to a more challenging landscape where incentives are becoming key to moving inventory.Ford has reduced the price of its new Mustang Mach-E SUV by $7,500 due to "competitive realities.". Ford is also offering a $7,500 rebate on top of the federal tax credit on some F-150 Lightning pickup trucksVW is advertising an ID.4 lease with no down payment."I think there was a miscalculation about demand and how much EVs would be coveted,” observed Joseph Yoon, an analyst at Edmunds, pointing to a mismatch between the industry's expectations and the current consumer buying behavior.Ultimately, the discounts are a costly way to buoy demand, said Jeff Dyke, president of , a publicly held car retailer with dealerships around the U.S. “Is it sustainable forever? Absolutely not. They're going to have to find a way to make these things cheaper,” Dyke said.2025 will be the year the world will hear Scott Simons cry as Stellantis kisses the iconic HEMI goodbye. As the company is steering its light duty Ram trucks towards electrification. In the meantime, a new plug-in hybrid model, the Ramcharger, is set to enter the market as a transitional option for consumers hesitant to adopt fully electric vehicles. The company's strategic pivot includes replacing V-8 Hemi engines with six-cylinder "Hurricane" engines and older V-6 options in light-duty trucks.Basic HEMI produces 394hp. One version of the new Hurricane produces 540Stellantis faces penalties for not meeting U.S. emissions standards, driving a shift to improve the fuel efficiency of Ram models."Think of the cost per kilowatt-hour," Ram brand chief Tim Kuniskis stated, emphasizing the balance between affordability and performance in their upcoming electrified vehicles.Your savant level, overly direct, college roommate AI Chatbot has finally hit the scene as Elon Musk's new company, xAI, has launched a language model named Grok. Grok boasts a more unfiltered and witty approach to AI interactions, challenging the norms of AI guardrails.xAI leverages Twitter's data, now known as the X platform, to provide real-time world knowledge to Grok and is claimed to have fewer restrictions than competing AI models, meaning it is willing to engage in more controversial topics or "spicy" questions.Hosts: Paul J Daly and Kyle MountsierGet the Daily Push Back email at https://www.asotu.com/ JOIN the conversation on LinkedIn at: https://www.linkedin.com/company/asotu/ Read our most recent email at: https://www.asotu.com/media/push-back-email ASOTU Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/automotivestateoftheunion

Scott Simons has spent three decades creating an enduring architectural legacy. Founder, Partner, and Principal of Simons Architects in Portland, Scott's exceptional work has been incorporated into residential and commercial buildings across Maine. While his success is due in no small measure to his design excellence, Scott suggests that the efforts he and his colleagues have put into team building have had an even more significant impact. As Scott enters “the next third” of his life, he understands the need to make room for future generations in his field. At the same time, he sees the value he still has the opportunity to add. His father, Richard, worked until five years before his death in 2022 at the age of 95. After retiring as a judge from the State of New York at 70, Richard provided 20 years of legal counsel to the Oneida Nation, earning him the respect of an elder in that community. Scott acknowledges that his father's long-standing service and approach to aging provided him with invaluable role modeling. Join our conversation with Scott Simons today on Radio Maine. The Automotive Troublemaker w/ Paul J Daly and Kyle Mountsier
Welcome to Tuesday Troublemakers. Today we're talking about an absurdly fantastic new muscle car, an effort to ban the bans in the US House, as well as NYC residents banding together to push back on a new logo. In an effort to ‘go out with their boots on', Dodge is celebrating the retirement of its current V8 engine Challenger and Charger by bringing back the Challenger SRT Demon with an edition CEO Tim Kuniskis calls “the new pinnacle of factory crazy.”The Demon will produce 1,025 total horsepower, 945 foot-pounds of torque and reach 60 mph from a rolling start in 1.66 secondsIt is touted as being ‘barely street legal' and is capable of popping wheeliesDodge was expected to reveal the car earlier this year, but engineers were “blowing up” engines attempting to get as much performance as possible out of the car, Kuniskis said. The problems led engineers to develop a new supercharged engine for the vehicle. The production run will be about 3000 units and will start around 100k going up to 120k w/ add onsThus far, at least a dozen US states have pledged to ban ICE vehicles by around 2035, amidst a rousing debate over who should get to decide what consumers choose to drive. Now a new bill sponsored by aftermarket behemoth, SEMA has entered the US House in an effort to ‘ban the bans'. HR1435 was introduced by R-PA Rep John Joyce and is being branded as the “Preserving Choice in Vehicle Purchases Act” and promoted as a bill designed to protect Americans' right to choose the technology that powers their cars. “SEMA believes that vehicle owners should not be directed toward a specific technology, but rather be allowed to choose the type of vehicle technology that best serves them,” said SEMA CEO Mike Spagnola. “While electric vehicle technology expands clean transportation options, SEMA will continue to advocate on behalf of the industry that has helped make the internal-combustion engine (ICE) a reliable, affordable and clean option for millions of consumers.”This week, New Yorkers (NYC residents specifically) were greeted with a rebrand of the iconic ‘I love NY' designed by Milton Glaser in 1977. The collaborative work from several NYC agencies and the city made not so subtle changes to the logo which now reads, “We Love NYC”. New Yorkers are not so subtly hating on it. The move is designed to spark pride in those who are committed to fighting for, and maybe just staying in, the city“The goal of the new campaign is to help combat ‘negativity.' Well that didn't work.” “Part of me hopes that they've done this as a PR stunt. And in a few weeks, they will be like ‘just kidding.'”Get the Daily Push Back email at https://www.asotu.com/ JOIN the conversation on LinkedIn at: https://www.linkedin.com/company/asotu/ Read our most recent email at: https://www.asotu.com/media/push-back-email Share your positive dealer stories: https://www.asotu.com/positivity ASOTU Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/automotivestateoftheunion

Scott Simons is a successful car dealer that is involved in multiple businesses across many industries. Scott's main focus is in the auto industry. He is the Managing Partner and General Manager of five Carter Myers Automotive dealerships in West Virginia. He is a speaker, business consultant, astute investor, and purveyor of filling the cups of anyone who is willing to put in the effort. Scott shares specific tactical advice you can apply and how he continues to push himself by surrounding himself with those he can learn from . What we discuss in this episode: If you own or manage a dealership, you must be willing to explore new growth opportunities and embrace new ideas. Dealerships that embrace the future will maintain their profitability and relevance in the coming years. Those who do not will be squeezed out of a tightening landscape. In this week's episode of the Dealer Playbook, Scott Simons goes into great detail about Creating A Dealership Growth Environment. As a true leader and an excellent communicator, he ensures that each member of his team understands their role and works together to further the company's growth. While Building a Great Team. Investing in employee training, retention, and happiness is critical to growth and success for your dealership. A motivated, positive team is your greatest asset in building competitive advantage for your business over the long term. Customer service is easily the auto industry's best salesperson. With customer emotions running so hot,it's crucial for your auto dealership to give every facet of customer service the finest polish imaginable. Due to the "virtuous circle" nature of the automotive industry, where strong customer service performance brings customers back later to the showroom floor—and the other way around—there is no doubt that this will pay off in amazing ways. How doing business with your own people make your climb to success is better Scott stocks his view on training employees “training is not it's not a knowing issue here, people know what to do. It's a motivation issue. And I need to help motivate them and get the best out of them. That's my job is to give them all the tools in order to be successful and give them an environment to thrive.” Chain of Command in Organizational Structure establishes accountability, it lays out a company's lines of authority and decision-making power. A proper chain of command ensures that every task, job position and department has one person assuming responsibility for performance. To unify competing desires and perspectives, emphasize that choices be made in the best interest of the customer. How Scott pours back into his team weekly including monitoring their personal credit, managing expenses, and much more that's lead to saving their lives Growth and rewards have always been critical components of human resources and employee motivation. Furthermore, most people want to advance in their careers. To keep employees longer in your organization, you should provide them with a Personal Development Plan. You can use this plan to map out employee development. How does a Junior Developer advance to the level of Senior Developer? Or, how can a Manager improve in his or her position? Another advantage of employee development is that by promoting employees internally, you can easily fill senior positions within your organization. Furthermore, because you already know everything there is to know about the employee, you are less likely to hire the wrong person for the job. To keep your employees and increase growth in your dealership, one of the most important factors is company culture. Before using motivation-boosting methods such as rewards and development, preparing your organization to support these changes is important. It's not about having the right infrastructure, but also having the right people in the right place. You must create an environment that naturally stimulates motivation. If you give Scott Simons your phone number, he will text you at least once a year.Everything is about relationships for Scott, and he has a lot of them. His college roommate from Sri Lanka, Grant Cardone and the other 6000 contacts in his phone. Relationship is the way that Scott sells cars, and the way he teaches his team to sell. It's like having 233 people on your marketing team. Paul J Daly and Kyle Mountsier spend time learning about this system and hearing how much Scott cares for people. What we talk about in this episode:0:00 Intro with Michael Cirillo, Paul J Daly and Kyle Mountsier6:04 Scott talks about how a formative life experience made him want to own a car dealership.“And I remember one day, I saw a guy with really nice clothes drive a really nice car, and I said, What's that guy do? And they're like, he sells cars. And I'm like, damn, I'd like to drive a nice car like that, or wear nice clothes like that. Okay, so then they're like, then I started finding out that the, you know, to enter the auto industry, you know, pretty much you anybody can enter, and anybody could go sell cars. So I said, Damn, it sounds like me. So anyway, I went to college, got my master's degree, and said, I'd like to own a car dealership one day.”12:43 Transactional vs relational. Scott and his team track relational sales, meaning sales not made from traditional leads, but by the personal brand of team members. Almost 50% of cars they sell are relational sales.“I want to build relationships to where when we first started tracking your relationships sales, relationships sales means that Kyle brought Paul in and bought a vehicle, he brought in that lead. So we started tracking transactional versus relationship. And if you're transactional, we want to turn you into a relationship where you don't shop with anybody else. So we first started tracking that. And before we started training, we were 5% relational. Now we're 45%. So that means almost one out of every two cars we sell is generated through social media, by the sales rep, not by the dealer. My goal is to get it close to 100%. Not even have to advertise at all. That's my goal.”14:06 Scott goes in-depth on relational sales and explains how a normal day works, and how every employee is a part of it. The process is so smooth, they usually have the cars sold on social media before they get on the dealership website.25:40 It wasn't always this way. Scott tells a story about one of the darkest seasons in his life, and what it took to make him who he is today.⭐️ Love the podcast? Please leave us a review here — even one sentence helps! Scott Simons is the General Manager and Managing Partner of Valley Chrysler, Dodge, Honda, Jeep, Nissan, Ram, Subaru, VW. Not only has he mastered the automotive space, he is an investor and business owner of 25 ventures, including sports complexes and an organic chicken farm. "I look at the look at the horse. I look at the person involved, and then rank them, the return of the investment, and how quick will I get that money back? You've got to look at how long will your capital be tied up. And then rank them based on risk...As my S-Corp builds up cash, I deploy that cash out, I don't want cash sitting in the bank...I keep myself broke...because if it sits there, it gets dormant, I'll get lazy. I don't want to ever become comfortable. So, the strategy keeping yourself broke you... keeps you hungry, you know, keeps me going. If you don't know me, I'm not gonna invest with you."
