This show is a recap of the wine experiences that we had while spending three weeks in Portugal and tasting through as much of the wines from that country as we could! Our itinerary included: The Algarve in the southern part of the country – a beautiful, dramatic seaside area with sandstone and limestone cliffs, which drop into the sea. There, we stayed in Lagos, a lovely town with excellent food and some fantastic wine bars including Mosto (the best!), Taninos (also quite good), and Barbosa restaurant. Other great restaurants were Pomo Italian and La Piazzetta Pizzeria Italiana in Odiaxére near Lagos (both run by real Italians with good Italian wine!), and Saffron Indian Restaurant. Mosto Wine Shop in Lagos Although we found that the native wines of the Algarve weren't for us, we did have great bottles from Peninsula de Sétubal, Dão, and Douro, and some great Madeira and Port. Then we spent a week in Cascais, outside of Lisbon. We visited the wine regions of Colares and Évora, a sub region of the Alentejo region. I loved the wines of the oldest co-op in Europe in Colares – Adega Regional de Colares, which has helped keep winemaking alive in this small region and in Évora/Alentejo, the magical wines of Fitapreta. This pod is full of travel tips and our recommendations of specific wines if you happen to be heading to central and southern Portugal. Enjoy! Full show notes are on Patreon. In this episode I have a conversation with Bill Gaede who moved from the USA to Setubal, Portugal when he was 85 years old! What made Bill decide to move to Setubal at an age where a lot of people are already dead. I don't know what most people think and do when they're 85 but chances are that moving to another country is probably not that high on their to-do list. What makes Bill different? Well, you are about to find out because I had the opportunity to talk with Bill about moving to Portugal, life, dreams, regrets, valuable life lessons, happiness, death and much more. It's not often I get a chance to speak with someone who not only has the courage to move to another country at that age but also the courage to speak openly about his life. One of the questions I asked Bill is how he would like to be remembered, this was his answer.

In this episode I have a conversation with Marshall Decouto about what makes us tick. Why do we do the things we do, where does our behavior come from and how can we change it? This is an episode if you are interested in spirituality and learning more about the subconscious quantum field. Marshall shares valuable knowledge about how our negative thoughts prevents us from becoming the person we are destined to be. We dig deep into the world of energy, vibration frequencies and conscious presence. Ingredients that we need to understand better so we can close the gap between the person we are and the person we would like to become. Marshall shares his life lessons and a very personal and profound story that changed everything and sent him on a new path in his life. I'm grateful that I met Marshall and I've not only had the privilege to speak with him for many hours but also received a treatment from him and experienced firsthand the gift that Marshall shares with the world. It's no secret that Setubal is the (new) home for many searchers, myself included. When you think and feel on a certain energy frequency it is only a matter of time before you attract like minded spirits. You are welcome to join us in the private Facebook group Waking Up In Setubal.
When you move to another country it's only a matter of time before you meet new people and make friends. Setubal is like a melting pot that not only attracts people from all over the world but also a wide variety of odd ducks, myself included. Why do you want to surround yourself with ‘normal' people (whoever that may be) when there is an opportunity to meet some of the most colorful people of the world. Not only do they have an amazing story to tell but it feels like we are all looking for the same thing. It was only a matter of time before I would meet a genuine, certified, bonafide rockstar in a local bar. Conrad Harvey also known as The Disco Viking definitely fits the bill. Not only am I happy that he's my guest on this episode of the Unleash the hero within podcast but I also got a chance to spent some time with him and get to know him better. In this episode we talk about why he came to Setubal, his mission in life, his dream to become a rockstar, the best and worst day in his life, conquering fear and much more. Sometimes you meet people you have an immediate connection with and you can talk with them for hours. Conrad falls in that category and in this podcast you will discover why.
Hello to you listening in Setubal, Portugal!Coming to you from Whidbey Island, Washington this is Stories From Women Who Walk with 60 Seconds for Time Out Tuesday and your host, Diane Wyzga.I seem to be getting a little long in the tooth. Don't quite know when it happened but it has. I'm more aware that death is certain, yet the time of death is uncertain. So, how should I be living now? While I'm getting older and somewhat wiser I have no clue how much time is left to fulfill the potential of my precious human birth. Some nights before bed I wonder where did the day go? What do I have to show for these hours? How was I of use? Maybe this happens to you.Practical Tip: At any moment in the day when feeling anxious, unsettled, clueless stop and ask yourself: What is the best use of this very short day in my life? Take 3 deep breaths to create a still space, slow the worrying, the mind chatter, and sit quietly. Silence will dawn on you with all its magic and sacredness. In that stillness you will have your answer. You're invited: “Come for the stories - stay for the magic!” Speaking of magic, I hope you'll subscribe, share a nice shout out on your social media or podcast channel of choice, and join us next time! Travelling to another country is not only a great way to learn about different cultures and people but it's also a perfect way to discover more about yourself. My next guest is Andy Tulett and he travelled the world for 10 years in a campervan that he build himself. His current destination is Setubal, Portugal and that's where Andy and I crossed paths. Join me in this episode where we talk about his adventures, the lessons he learned along the way, the struggles in his life and his mission to spread happiness over the world. It's when people find the courage to speak from the heart and show their vulnerabilities that we truly connect with each other and discover that we are not that different. By sharing our stories we not only connect on a much deeper level but it also gives us a chance to heal our own wounds.

Moving to another country and adding another chapter to your life can be an amazing experience. As soon as you decide to leave your homeland and take the first step into the unknown you'll probably have some expectations on how that journey is going to go. Man makes plans and God laughs. At every stage of life we make plans, setting out where we want to go and imagining what we will be like when we have arrived. But things have a way of turning out not quite as we hoped or expected. In this episode I have a conversation with Lorentz Figenschau about moving to Setubal, Portugal and the adventures that were waiting for him once he arrived. It is inevitable that you will have to face dragons on your journey and sometimes they show up in pairs. Not only will this test your faith but it will also give you an opportunity to transform yourself into a dragon slayer. In this podcast you will discover that Lorentz is not only a strong and brave dragon slayer but he is also a warrior of the light with an amazing and inspiring story to tell and he is not afraid to be vulnerable in the process of demonstrating that. To me that is the definition of a genuine, certified, bonafide hero and I am grateful our paths crossed. If you are looking for inspiration and real life stories of people who are on their hero's journey and how they deal with their challenges than this is the perfect podcast for you.
In this episode I have a conversation with Stephanie Waasdorp about her hero's journey and about moving to Setubal. Why did she move to Setubal and what are some of her best and worst experiences about living in Portugal. We also talk about the gift that she wants to share with the world, the challenges she faces and how she deals with them. Besides being a single mom she also runs a successful business.
Moving to another country is an adventure. The automatic pilot switch gets turned off and you become very aware of where you are and what you are doing. Everything is new and to me it felt like being unleashed as a kid at Toys R Us for the very first time! You feel excited because you step into a new world, waiting to be discovered. A different culture to explore, places to visit and new people to meet. Meeting new people is not only about making new friends, it is also a great way to learn more about yourself. We all have a story to tell about who we are, our dreams and fears and why we moved to a new country. If you have the courage to go deep into yourself, and dig up and share those stories you will come to a place where you will find real connection. With other people and with yourself because some stories have a magical and healing ingredient. In this episode of the Unleash The Hero Within podcast I'm talking with Filipa Matta May about her journey. She was an adopted child of a Portuguese family, became a lawyer but found her true passion in writing stories for children. Join me in this inspiring and sometimes emotional conversation where we talk about being present, the best and worst days of our life and speaking your dream into the world.
I love Lisbon, one of Europe's most beautiful capital cities, and the locations on its western flanks – in particular Cascais, Estoril and Sintra. But until now I haven't strayed south to the Setubal Peninsula: much less well known, but full of surprises. Do try O Barbas – an amazing seafood restaurant overlooking the Atlantic in Costa da Caparica; the wild, windy and atmospheric cape of Espichel; and Setubal itself, a sleepy, friendly city.Of course this podcast is completely free, as is my weekly travel email. Borá conhecer a Fernanda? @fefazafesta

THE RECAP Sporting CP wins its first ever Taça da Liga against Vitoria de Setubal in a very hard fought 1-1 match which ended up going to a penalty shootout. Porto and Benfica both come up with draws as the tail end of the 20th jornada comes to a close, with Sporting set to play Vitoria de Guimarães today (Wednesday, January 31). Real Madrid remain shaky as they lose to Leganes in the Copa del Rey (2-2 agg.) by away goal rule, knocking them out of the tournament. THE DISCUSSION Today's topic is centered around the question, whether it is more beneficial to build players through a youth academy, or to purchase already developed players in the transfer market. Smaller teams usually decide to develop their youth squads because they lack the funds to purchase developed players, which at times can be very expensive. Benefits to having an academy for developing players include: Cheaper initial investment Potential for greater returns The player grows up learning the teams tactics and schemes Easier integration up to the A squad Most big teams, (Real Madrid, Manchester City, PSG, etc.) have the ability to spend a lot of money in order to transfer the players they want. Also, since they are playing at higher levels, and are expected to perform at their peak year round, it is more beneficial to them to purchase players who have that type of experience. Benefits to purchasing players include: Player is used to playing at a high caliber Skills are fully, or near fully, developed Teams can look for certain characteristics that players exhibit A squad ready Cons to developing players: Uncertainty in the youth's future Player wanting to leave because of lack of accomplishment (winning leagues/titles/etc.) Cons to purchasing players: May not integrate well with new systems/players Expensive LOOKING AHEAD In the Portuguese League, Porto and Braga are set to meet at Estádio do Dragão on Saturday, February 3rd. The same day, Benfica faces Rio Ave at home. In the Copa del Rey, Sevilla take on Leganes today (January 31), and Barcelona host Valencia on February 1 to finish out the first leg of the semi-final. THIS DAY IN SOCCER HISTORY January 25, 1942, Portuguese soccer legend Eusébio is born. Nicknamed the Black Panther, Eusébio is a famed soccer legend who played for SL Benfica and the Portuguese National team, winning 2 European Cups, 11 Primeira Liga titles, 5 Taças de Portugal, led Portugal to the semi-finals of the 1966 World Cup and score 621 goals for both club and country. Points dropped while playing at home Goal drought Gareth Bale's injuries Marcelo's lack of form Zidane's failure to make adjustments Poor summer signings Lack of late goals Subpar results in El Classico Focus on the Super Cups LOOKING AHEAD The final of the Taça da Liga will be played this Saturday, January 27th. "By the ashtray lay a single sheet of paper and an unopened bottle of Scotch. Joao Rocha turning to his interlocutor without as much as a smile, said 'I'm afraid it's one or the other, Malcolm'. His time leading Portugal's famous green and white hoops, brief and glamourously successful, was over in one simple, dramatic Dartford Gunslinger moment." In episode Thirty Three we look back to 'The Whisky Option' by Simon Curtis from Issue Seventeen, which details the often unmentioned Portuguese successes of the larger-than-life boss Malcolm Allison. His brief and successful stay at Sporting, and subsequent mixed spells at Vitoria de Setubal and Farense mirrors the domestic career of one of football's great coaching innovators, and his legacy lasts to this day thanks to the impact he made on the son of Vitoria's goalkeeping coach. Simon Curtis is a freelance football writer based in Lisbon. He contributes regularly to ESPN and Champions, and has written for FourFourTwo, Reuters, Worldsoccer.com, Portugoal.net and a variety of official Uefa publications. He is currently co-writing a book on the history and influence of Portuguese football.
