I do not nullify the grace of God, for if righteousness were through the law, then Christ died for no purpose. — Galatians 2:21 CALL OUT: Today, our callout goes to Shawn Wilson from Fruit Cove, FL, a new member of the website. Thanks for your partnership with us. Returning to yesterday's devotional, we learned that we live by faith. Faith in Jesus both saves and sustains us. Paul's follow-up today is that thinking that we can add anything to Jesus's accomplished work other than faith alone nullifies the greatness of God's grace and the purpose for which Jesus died. The bottom line is we need grace. Grace is our only hope when we stand condemned before the Great Judge because, in matters of salvation, grace is all we have. We are guilty and sinful to the core, trapped by inescapable guilt. Therefore, trying to work our way out when there is no way out is a waste of time. Moreover, it's equally foolish to reject grace and pretend like we don't need it. So stop wasting your time, stop nullifying God's grace, and accept it. Don't reject it. That is not noble. It's stupid. To reject it is to deny the very thing you need to receive. #GraceAlone #SalvationThroughFaith #NullifyingGrace #RejectingGodsGrace #FaithVsWorks ASK THIS: How can we ensure that we're truly relying on God's grace alone for our salvation, rather than trying to earn it through our own efforts? In what areas of our lives do we find ourselves tempted to rely on our own works or achievements instead of fully embracing the grace of God? How can we shift our perspective to trust in His grace more fully? DO THIS: Stop rejecting God's grace. PRAY THIS: Father, help me to grasp the depth of Your grace and to fully trust in it for my salvation, knowing that nothing I do can earn Your love. Guide me away from the temptation to rely on my own efforts and lead me to rest in Your unending grace. Amen. PLAY THIS: Grace Got You.

‘Louisiana Elects GOP Governor who supports ‘Anti-Black policies'; Why are Black Voters blamed?' - Omari Ho-Sang of Black Voters Matter and Founder, Executive Director All Streets, All People (ASAP) joins Historian, Michael Imhotep on 'The African History Network Show' to discuss. 10-23-23 Louisiana's Attorney General Jeff Landry, a Republican backed by former President Donald Trump, has won the Louisiana governor's race, holding off a crowded field of candidates on Saturday, October 14th, 2023. Landry won the race by receiving more than 52% of the electorate – a threshold that eliminated the need for a runoff election and flipped a seat that was held by Democratic Gov. John Bel Edwards since 2016. Jeff Landry defeated many challengers including Dr. Shawn Wilson who is African American and who received 70% of the African American vote. But another byproduct of Saturday's election was the scapegoating of Black voters after exit polling data showed their low turnout for a political contest in which the leading Republican has been accused championing anti-Black policies. It's been six months since a catastrophic tornado ripped across the lower Mississippi Delta into Alabama, killing at least 23 people and injuring dozens more. Communities caught in the path of the storm are still rebuilding, but as the Gulf States Newsroom's Maya Miller reports, some residents fear they're being left behind. Love and deception are in the air as the New Orleans Opera opens its 2023-24 season with “The Marriage of Figaro.” This Mozart classic presents one wild wedding day in the garden – chock full of twists and turns. The New Orleans Opera's general and artistic director, Clare Burovac, joins us today for a conversation about the performance. Louisiana's primaries are just around the corner, so this week, we are re-airing the rest of our interviews with the major candidates for governor. Today, we bring you a conversation with Hunter Lundy, the race's sole Independent. A trial lawyer from Lake Charles, Lundy has allied with Republicans on abortion bans and bills targeting LGBTQ+ people. But on fiscal issues, he's far more liberal, saying he would invest in social programs and schools. During a debate last week, he appealed to liberal voters by promising to clean up polluted industrial sites near residential areas, and made direct attacks at Democratic candidate Shawn Wilson, who he proclaimed, “cannot win this race.” Back in June, The Times-Picayune / New Orleans Advocate's editorial director and columnist, Stephanie Grace, spoke to Lundy about why he believes Louisiana needs a bipartisan leader. We're revisiting that conversation today. Today's episode of Louisiana Considered was hosted by Diane Mack. Our managing producer is Alana Schreiber and our assistant producer is Aubry Procell. Our engineer is Garrett Pittman. You can listen to Louisiana Considered Monday through Friday at 12 and 7 p.m. It's available on Spotify, Google Play and wherever you get your podcasts. Over the weekend, crowds gathered in Birmingham, Ala., to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the bombing of the 16th Street Baptist Church, a racist attack that killed four young Black girls. The weekend was packed full of events to honor the lives of the victims and educate the public on the significance and legacy of the tragedy. The Gulf States Newsroom's Maya Miller spent the weekend in Birmingham and joins us to talk about the ways the city is still grappling with this tragedy. Wednesday night, the Jefferson Performing Arts Center will host Culture Collision 13 – a celebration of New Orleans nonprofit visual and performing arts organizations. WWNO business manager Jameeta Youngblood tells us more about what to expect at this celebration of the arts. Louisiana's primary is coming up, so this week, we are re-airing our interviews with the major candidates for governor. Shawn Wilson, served as the state's secretary of transportation and development from 2016 until earlier this year. He faces steep odds in his run for the state's highest office, as the lone Democrat on the ballot in a deeply red state. At last week's debate, he refused to identify himself as pro-life or pro-choice when asked by a moderator. Instead, he said, he believes that women need to be free to make their own medical decisions, in consultation with their doctors. Earlier this year, Wilson spoke with The Times-Picayune / The New Orleans Advocate's editorial director and columnist Stephanie Grace about what it will take for a Democrat to win in Louisiana. Today, we give that conversation a second listen. Today's episode of Louisiana Considered was hosted by Diane Mack. Our managing producer is Alana Schreiber and our assistant producer is Aubry Procell. Our engineer is Garrett Pittman. You can listen to Louisiana Considered Monday through Friday at 12 and 7:00 p.m. It's available on Spotify, Google Play and wherever you get your podcasts. 102: Shawn Wilson - Research is Ceremony Shawn Wilson is an Associate Professor of Indigenous Studies at the University of British Columbia. His book, Research is Ceremony, Indigenous Research Methods, is one of my favourites. As we have discussed previously on Survival of the Kindest, indigenous ways of knowing and being offer a lot, stressing the importance of interdependence, relationsional accountability and kinship not just with the people around us but with everything. It is a harmonious and very integrated way of living. Our actions have consequences everywhere and this is increasingly obvious as we watch the impact of environmental destruction. Research has a really important role to play in understanding how this all fits together. Limited rationalistic scientific research methods are not suitable to be able to describe this complexity and Shawn in his book, demonstrates how indigenous research methods are more appropriate in providing a much broader, more expansive view.
Right-wing radical Jeff Landry is still in the lead, but Shawn Wilson could be within striking distance, and the rest of the Republican candidates smell blood

Ryan Lopez, Pow Wow committee member, tells us what it means to finally reunite in this celebration for the first time in years. For the next few weeks, we will continue our conversations with candidates in the 2023 Louisiana governor's race. Today we're joined by Shawn Wilson, a democrat who served as secretary of transportation and development for Gov. John Bel Edwards. He tells us what he believes it will take for a candidate on the left to win in a red state. But first, it's Thursday and that means it's time to catch up on politics with The Times Picayune / New Orleans Advocate's editorial director and columnist Stephanie Grace. She tells us about recent failed attempts to loosen abortion restrictions in Louisiana. Today's episode of Louisiana Considered was hosted by Alana Schreiber.
